Just like my wife's moved-along "A&W" car. Milan brown and Bamboo, IIRC.
Missing the hardtop? Has a rubber ducky antenna instead of the Hirschmann.
We rather liked the car, once we got it all sorted out.

Re: [MBZ] Outstanding in its field -- Kilo Graham

2020-07-21 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
Yeah it's like these 210s (or even 163s) I have bought for $500 or $600
-- nice cars with some issues, nothing particularly challenging to fix
unless you are paying some jackleg mechanic to diagnose and throw parts
at it, in which case your costs will rapidly exceed the value of the car
because of the reputations and nobody wanting to fool with them.  So
these folks buy them figuring they are going to get a deal then some
nanny or $100 part craps out, they don't want to deal with it so the car
sits and goes to hell and becomes near-scrap.

I guess Merkun and Jap cars are easier to deal with, or more reliable or
something, or at least that is the perception.  It works to our
advantage if we want to fool with them.

W123s were the same way when they were just 20 year old cars and the
supply was plentiful.

Now that they are even older and harder to find they are becoming
valuable.

This particular example also has obvious collision repair. Half-assed
repair = low value.

Re: [MBZ] Outstanding

2007-09-17 Thread Curt Raymond

Kevin,

For that one I'd treat it really heavy with the Seafoam, maybe a 50% blend.
let it run to burn about 50% of that and then let it sit for a day. Then run it
again to see if its better.
On my motorcycle once I had a stuck needle in at least one carb so when the
engine was off it would pee gas. I left it was seafoam treated gas for a couple
days and it was fine. That was 3 years ago...

I want to try some of the Seafoam in my parents' Motorhome Onan genset.
  It
will start with the choke, but won't run on its own without some help.
  It
sat for over a year, and when it wouldn't start, I suspected that the
 gas
had gone bad. This was indeed the case as when I opened it up, there
 it
was, the unmistakable smell of stale gas. Hopefully, the seafoam will
 work
which will save about $500 for a new carburetor. The gen runs off the
 main
tank, so I'm going to run a line to it from a can of treated gas and
 see
what happens.

Most of these newer models have fixed jets, so there's
not a lot of adjusting to be done. Disassemble it,
clean everything well, put it back together, get it
running.

The hardest part will be adjusting the governor if you
don't have a load bank. Those portable electric
heaters do the job quite well.

Sadly, Seafoam will probably NOT cure a carburetor full of varnish. Rebuilding
a small engine carb is not that big of a deal. That hardest part is finding
"real" carb cleaner. Such as Hydro-Seal. http://www.gunk.com/CAT_HS5K.asp

Or Napa's equivalent.

Take your time. Use a manual (probably can find one online). Take pictures if
need be. It helps in the re-assembly. Use Seafoam in the fuel BEFORE it goes
into storage next time...

Re: [MBZ] Outstanding

2007-09-15 Thread Kevin Kraly
I want to try some of the Seafoam in my parents' Motorhome Onan genset. It
will start with the choke, but won't run on its own without some help. It
sat for over a year, and when it wouldn't start, I suspected that the gas
had gone bad. This was indeed the case as when I opened it up, there it
was, the unmistakable smell of stale gas. Hopefully, the seafoam will work
which will save about $500 for a new carburetor. The gen runs off the main
tank, so I'm going to run a line to it from a can of treated gas and see
what happens.

Rick - I spent about 7 years in West Central [Veedersburg, IN] while I did grad
and post-grad work. 34 below one morning; coldest this FL boy ever saw. Where
are you? I am not thrilled with Jacksonville summers, but I don't miss IN
winters at all. No snow blowers here, but I do use Sea Foam for my generator.
No complaints thus far - but thus far I have not needed it.

A half can of that is my standard motorcycle pre-riding tune-up in the
spring. I also used it to pre-fill the fuel filter on my VW diesel.

Re: [MBZ] Outstanding

2007-09-15 Thread Curt Raymond

I only buy premium when its to be "gas in a can". I also add about an ounce of
seafoam to the can before I get gas. That way I don't forget.
I summerized my snowblower only with seafoam this year for the first time ever.
It'll be interesting to see how it does.

It is good stuff. I asked my local small engine guy about additives
like Sta-bil and he sold me on Seafoam. He also said to spend the money
and buy premium fuel if the machine is to sit unused for any length of
 time. Like *ahem* snowblowers

[MBZ] Outstanding

2007-09-15 Thread Curt Raymond
Is anybody on here using SeaFoam gas additive?
http://www.seafoamsales.com/motorTuneUpTechGas.htm
My chainsaw was playing up bad, when I'd get it good and warm, say after 2-3
cuts in 12"+ wood unless I kept my finger on the throttle it'd quit. Eventually
it'd quit no matter what. Once it'd quit it would not restart. If I put the
choke on it'd pop but that was it.
I put a bit of the Seafoam in the gas and as I was concerned about having
enough lubrication I put in an equal measure of marvelous oil, about a teaspoon
of each lets say.
The first run was pretty good until the chain went dull on me. It did quit
though when I let the throttle off.
It took me awhile to find a file and carefully sharpen. Since this is the first
time on a new chain I wanted to be real careful and do a good job. [and I did
too.] So the saw was cool (pretty much anyway) by the time I tried it again. It
fired right up and ran just fine until I was too tired and nervous of hurting
my back again to keep going.

Anyway I've got a couple other miracle stories about the stuff but I thought
that one was pretty cool. Wouldn't work on a machine that wouldn't start I
don't think but in this case it sure saved the day...
