Several years ago, a couple of strictly monitored church educated
high school girls ended up pregnant, despite being adult supervised
24 hours a day. It turned out they had been sitting on their
boyfriends' laps on the school bus.

Don't you love it when businesses try to charge you twice for something they
should have done right in the first place? If anything, they should give
you a partial refund for screwing up.

When I had an oil change done by Honda, they didn't tighten the drain plug
enough, so when I got home I found I was leaking oil. I went back, they
tightened the plug, added oil, and gave me a free air filter to compensate
me for my lost time.

That's a dealership I still go to. That, and the Acura dealer that gave me
a brand-new TL as a loaner for the shitty-ass Integra I turned in for a new
timing belt.

My Bug has been flawless both mechanically and cosmetically. I've had a
headlight bulb replaced, a rear headrest replaced, and the rear brakes
replaced...all under warrenty. Well...the brakes were actually a recall
thing I seem to remember. It has consistantly got 46mpg (auto, AC, girl
driven). It goes like a scalded dog.
I need to get the timing BELT done soon (VW says 60K if auto) so that will
be the first real work that has ever been done. Having used M1 since new, I
expect everything to be perfect inside when the do the timing belt. I really
wish it had a timing chain.

All in all, I'd say my experience with the Bug has been great.

Re: [MBZ] VWTD

2006-01-12 Thread Lee Einer
I was very loyal to VW (family owned bugs & microbusses since the '50s)
but our experience with a 95 Jetta changed that. Their trannys are
supposedly sealed, no fluid check or add needed, good for a lifetime.
Doesn't work out that way in practice, though. The *%&$ trans seal
tended to dry out and then leak. No way to check the fluid level, so
when the trans would start to slip, we would bring it in to the
dealership, and would be told either that they could not duplicate the
problem, or

1). Yes, the trans is under warranty, but
2). Fluids and seals are not covered and
3). They would replace the seal and add new fluid for the low low cost
of $600 or thereabouts.

Happened twice. Then the trans died completely, and they tried to reneg
on the warranty. I ended up spending several days on this issue, going
to two dealerships, being lied to and generally screwed around, and
finally had to have the case elevated to a regional manager with VW
before they would honor their warranty.

A word to the wise on the new Beetles. Whilst I was in the waiting room
of the dealership's service department, I heard the service tech
explaining to a young lady with a new bug that yes, it was just her
headlight bulb that was burned out, but that in order to get to it they
had to dismantle the front trim and sheet metal and the labor would be
$175. That just ain't right.

Bible College students had to be very creative.

List content: I really dig my Beetle TDI...almost bought a new Quantem in
'81 I believe...but The Queen of All Time, Space and Dimension has a cousin

You're right, I'm sure he was a saint at BJU..

Really, I was trying to fend off the onslaught of "your younger than my
grandson" e-mails that we get when the late twenty/early thirty year olds
"come out of the closet" as being youngsters. The "why the hell do I pay
social security tax generation" Whoopee, I'll get $400 a month, enough to buy
dinner at McDonalds in 2040.

I digress. Time for coffee and a cigarette and on to the ad I should be
working on.

I grew up about 3 blocks from a Bible College, and it seems that weekend
nights there were strange cars parked on our street for an hour or two,
windows fogging, and they had stickers on the back window proclaiming
this College...

I think there was some sort of special counseling going on, but I would
not know the details as I was just a yungin.

My bet is that it will fire right up as soon as I get a key for it. Charged
the battery up overnight and will be pouring in some on the Power Service
Diesel Fuel Supplement to attack any water that might (or more likely, did)
collect in the tank during storage.

Of course if they have to juice the car they will get the little buzz box
