Motorized parachutes look like fun. The used ones seem a little pricey. http://parachutepilot.com/equipment_for_sale.htm If your engine quits, how hard do you hit the ground? The local restrictions here are probably necessary because of constant dry conditions and the subdivision being heavily forested with houses built among the trees. The underbrush is like tinder. I can't say for sure but the forward speed under power is only about 35 mph. If there is a flat spot ahead you can glide it in for a rolling landing on the wheels. The airframe is pretty light so a vertical landing should be like sport parachuting with the airframe absorbing much of the impact. -Original Message- From: arche...@embarqmail.com Sent: Wednesday, March 26, 2014 9:45 AM ... When there were a lot of complaints about a member, the list owner was very astute. He would say that he never liked to ban anyone and then he would vote no as one of the moderators when the vote was taken. To this day, he's never been blamed for suspending a member even though he provided the means to do so. When I was flying radio control airplanes I built a Dallaire Sportser. The wingspan was 9 feet and it flew like a big old kite. I put a size .40 diesel engine in it and used a 16 inch prop. I would take off into the wind and it would be off the ground in about 10 feet. Then you could throttle back and just float around and watch everyone else fly their fast machines. For fuel we used a mixture of JetA (purchased at the local airport) and castor oil. It was a pretty messy fuel and the plane would need to be cleaned up after a day of flying. I am not sure of the mix and it seemed like we used ether as well. Michael E. Glow fuel is a mixture if methanol and nitromethane (up to 30%). For two-cycle engines it also includes oil. From Wikipedia: Most model engines require oil to be included with the fuel as a lubricant since the engine has no independent oiling capability. Model engine fuel is typically 8-22% oil, with the higher percentages run in older design two-stroke glow engines that use bushings for the crankshaft bearings. The most commonly used lubricants are castor oil and synthetic oils, and many glow fuels include a mixture of the two. The oils included in glow fuel generally are not burned by the engine, and are expelled out the exhaust of the engine. This also helps the engine dissipate heat, as the oil emitted is generally hot. So for us oldsters (pre synthetics) the distinct aroma was caster oil. That sounds like the kind of model flying I would prefer to do, Mike. Never cared for flying the smaller models. The large deed restricted community where I live provides a field and a club for model flying, but they won't allow anything but battery operated models. Friend in Tallahassee who flew all his life; singles, twins, gliders, seaplanes, etc. got into electric model flying after he got too old to pass the physical. He had electric planes with cameras sending video back. Gerry On 3/25/2014 1:43 PM, Mike Esh wrote: When I was flying radio control airplanes I built a Dallaire Sportser. From childhood in the '30s I seem to remember two kinds of castor oil; plain and odorless. The plain was a yellowish color and the odorless was colorless and cost more. Most of the kids I knew got a periodic dose which amazingly seemed to correspond with various kinds of bad behavior. My kids might have been using the odorless in their Cox engines. The oils included in glow fuel generally are not burned by the engine, and are expelled out the exhaust of the engine. This also helps the engine dissipate heat, as the oil emitted is generally hot. So for us oldsters (pre synthetics) the distinct aroma was caster oil. I'm not to the point in my life where I'm having to eat cat food. Sorry. I'm sure their stuff is good, I just don't understand why people get all frothy about the place. We have a Fresh Market opening up a few blocks away in April. Supposed to be a high end market focusing mainly on meats and produce. Publix (right across the street) is not happy. They have ratcheted up their marketing in the neighborhood. There is a meat market right next door to the place, too. We're taking bets to see how long they last once it opens. I've read several historical accounts of WW1 pilots who flew and fought in the open cockpit, castor oil lubricated airplanes of the era. Apparently constant and extreme bowl movements were part of the price you paid to be brave enough to fly the airplanes. Several accounts are written about how much weight they lost and how truly sick they became, between the poor sanitation of the day, and the constant breathing of castor oil. Brave takes a new meaning. On Sun, Mar 23, 2014 at 12:22 PM, OK Don okd...@gmail.com wrote: That was caster beans for castor oil. AFAIK, it's still used in model airplane engine fuel. i still try to be kleb's friend. i like him very much and i like his family. that he comes here and starts the conversation with how he has to ban me because he thinks it will impress the scumbags is more sad than anything. the scumbags will not be his friend and they might just turn on him as well as they are without moral center but merely kick whomever they think they can get away with kicking On Sat, Mar 22, 2014 at 11:03 PM, Mountain Man maontin@gmail.comwrote: Gary wrote: i try very hard to be friends with kleb but he doesn't understand that you don't treat a friend this way. he is ignorant and i can't communicate with him Hear Hear Now we got richarde drawn in to this fiasco. Yeah Kaleb think of the children, next thing you know they'll all have potty mouths and getting drunk. Re: [MBZ] Fats driving kaleb insane
Sure I got no problem with that, don't read most of the pearls of wisdom from Florida anyway. It's just that in our culture we can't stand someone who has a big mouth in the playground but when told to shut up runs crying home to Mum and says he got bullied. Hendrik who is gonna tell his mum that kaleb is a bully On 23/03/14 05:08, Kaleb C. Striplin wrote: And right you are. I guess I was not clear enough before. Correct me if I missed somebody but it seems hendrik, Loren, and hurst all have a problem with each other. I do not want to hear any name calling, bickering, fighting, or anything at all directed at one another. What does that mean? It means hendrik and Loren should not talk to or about Gary, Gary should not talk to or about the other 2. I am sick and tired of the back and forth. Everyone is sick if it. Take it to banned and have at it if you want but keep the name calling, foul language etc of here, period. If I see it again beyond today, I will start putting people on moderation status. If that does not work they will be banned. If the problem continues you will just shut down the list. This is not just directed at the 3 people above, it is directed at everyone. If you think you want to attack somebody, accuse them of something, think twice before posting it. It should not happen, period. Gary sells parts but is not any so rt of official parts supplier of this list. If you think he ripped you off, do not buy from him. You can let me know off list if you want. If I hear many complaints from many people I would not allow Gary to sell parts here, but knowing Gary that is highly unlikely he is ripping people off. So, with that said I do not want to see anymore of these attacks. People do not need to be attacking Gary, Gary does not need to be attacking people. It is only natural if you are attacked you should defend yourself. That just keeps it going. No attacks in the first place means no problems. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
Re: [MBZ] Fats driving
This is a common problem on many other lists. The most successful solution I've seen is to have only one rule: NO PERSONAL ATTACKS. If a member persists with personal attacks he/she will be suspended for 30 days. In order for the list owner to avoid hostility from the people he bans, the list owner privately selects up to fifteen members as moderators whose only function will be to secretly vote on 30 day suspensions. The votes will be sent to someone on the list whom everyone trusts; usually the list owner ; and the list owner will then take the member off the list if a majority of moderators have agreed. Any time after 30 days the member can rejoin. Members can attack other members position on whatever is being discussed, but not other members personally. In the 8 years I've been on one list, only two members out of 150 were given 30 day suspensions and both returned as valuable list members. The fact that the rule is there and will be enforced has a very calming effect on members who tend to be too outspoken. Some hosting services have a way to conduct a survey of X number of moderators so that no moderators votes will be revealed. I don't know if Kalebs has one or not.
