Re: [MBZ] Photos

2017-11-04 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
It's a .45 cal CVA Kentucky rifle. I'm told it was built from a kit in the '80s
and never shot. I'll post some better pics Monday.
I worked on the trigger some. It's short but very heavy. A little touch with a
450 grit diamond hone helped. There's more to get there but trigger work is
fiddly, do too much and the gun won't not fire...

I was out shooting today, no time for bow ties. Need to find some of the pics

Shot the "from a friend" Kentucky rifle some more today. Its fun to shoot but
hasn't been performing as I'd expect. The trigger is really rough and that was
part of it but...

It's not scientific or anything, but just based on all the new S and C
classes running around here, I think Benz has a pretty good following and
are pushing all the right buttons with a lot of people.

I don't really know anything about the market, but for whatever reason
shares are down, I don't think it's due to lack of sales of newer models,
not around here anyway. Maybe something to do with trying to buy into the
minivan market awhile back.

Re: [MBZ] photos of the new E-Class

2008-12-10 Thread E M
Not bad. Not sure about the rear end, hard to really tell from the pics.
Looks like the tail lights may be integrated into the rear fender arches a
bit. Angle of the rear lights reminds me a bit of that high end Nissan
(Infiniti), which I wasn't too fond of.

I like the new S, so I think some of those styling elements look good on the
E too. I've seen a few pics of the new E interior, and it's very similar to
the S.

As far as the current lineup of cars goes, I wish they had carried a bit
more of the styling of the new S rear end over to the coupe. I think the
sedan's rear is much more elegant than the coupe's rear.

It's nice to see some boldness with the design of the last crop of Mercs.
Also nice to see the quality returning to where it should be in cars in this
league.

2007-04-20 Thread E M

Looks very nice Donald. I plan to be looking for something similar late
Fall, or early next Spring. I've kind of give up on the diesel idea, as
most I've seen here have been driven into the ground. I want to live with
the 300E for the summer and see what it's like to run daily. The plan is,
if this experiment works out, I'll get another one (W124) sedan or wagon, or
look for either a 300, or 420 W126. I have the dealer who sold me this one
keeping his eye open for me. At this point, when dealing with older cars,
and all the salt they use in the winter here, condition will win out over
model for me.

Good luck with the sale Donald, looks like a car that will make someone very
happy.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for posting the photos -- to answer your question about sound
absorbing foam - the front panel has some foam about 1/2 to 3/4 thick. It
seems to be coated in a plastic/rubber film making it appear to be an
integral part of the shield.

I haven't re-installed them yet - although the rear one will probably go on
tomorrow - and probably the front one also - in case someone has anymore

Hi all,

I posted Larry's recent photos on my website, and also posted the
photos of the brand-new 1987 300D/TD sound panels as well. Note that
the '87 panels have sound-absorbing foam. Does anyone know if the 1991
(124.128) models had the foam as well? I think there used to be a
bigger price difference... I would have sworn the 2.5 Turbo panels
were a lot cheaper. But either I imagined that, or the prices have
shot up recently:

 Hi all,

I cleaned the evaporator on my 300E recently, after doing the same job
on my 300D a month earlier. I had previously cleaned this evaporator
with a brush and vacuum, as one half was so filthy I don't know if any
air was actually flowing through! I figured that since I had to pull
the wiper out to replace the windshield, I might as well pull the
blower too and use the foam cleaner. Here are some photos of before,
during, and after. The camera doesn't show the difference very well,
but it was visibly cleaner when I was done:

James,

I used Nu-Calgon Evap Foam, from the local HVAC wholesaler for about
$7 per can. One can will clean two evaporators, foaming them down
maybe a half-dozen times each. A little goes a long way with this
stuff. I used a garden sprayer with water to rinse it out, although
they claim it's not required (the condensate will rinse it, I guess,
during A/C operation.) Here's a flyer for the cleaner:

Re: [MBZ] Photos of K-Mac rear camber kit

2005-12-02 Thread Aaron Lam
Dave,

I know I'm jumping into this topic a bit late. From what I see, the
KMAC bushings replace the inner bushing on the big spring link and the
bushing on the rear tie rod, correct? So to decrease negative camber,
adjustment of the eccentric bolts would pull the inner part of the
rear wheel *closer* to the car, wheras the Speedtek adjustable camber
arms push the top of the wheel *outward*? Do the KMAC eccentric bolts
for the tie rod offer a bigger range of adjustment compared to the
stock tie rod eccentrics?

Hi Aaron,

Wow, I almost missed your post buried in the digest! Anyway, you are
correct on all counts. To reduce negative camber, the bottom of the
tire is pulled inward, same as AMG did on the original Hammer. The tie
rod eccentrics must allow more adjustment but I don't know the specs.
There's also a factory tie rod eccentric that allows more adjustment -
it's buried in the EPC somewhere, the cost is quite high, and I don't
know if it's any help without the camber adjustment anyway.

Does the kit come with an R sticker, clear tailights, and a can of
yellow paint for the lower body bits?

Hi all,

Mercedes' oversight of not providing rear camber adjustment has been
remedied in a few different ways. One solution is the K-Mac kit, which
replaces the stock bushing with an eccentric bushing that allows
camber adjustment. I recently received the kit, but haven't installed
it yet (plan to do that this winter while the subframe is out.)
Anyway, I took some photos of the kit - they are located here:

http://buymbparts.com/forum/showthread.php?t=584

I'm pretty impressed with the design. I hope it works as good as it
looks! Cost was $209 plus SH, btw... downright cheap when you
consider that this also includes bushings to allow extra toe
adjustment too, while the other solutions do not.

For those of you wondering why this kit exists, it's because if you
lower the car, OR installed much wider wheels/tires, there is too much
negative camber and it wears the inside of the rear tires excessively.
If the car is lowered AND has wide wheels (I've got 18x10.0 wheels
with 275/35/18 tires on the E500), the condition is even worse. If
your car is stock, you don't need this kit.
