Re: [meteorite-list] Hello John!

2016-12-01 Thread Anita Westlake via Meteorite-list
It is so good to hear from you! I’m so sorry to hear about Earlene’s illness. I
will send healing thoughts her way.

Where are the 6 shows you do?

I lived in the south side of Atlanta for most of my adult life. I moved 6
months ago to the Northeast Georgia mountains. It is so quiet here, and so
beautiful. I can see stars that I could never see in Atlanta. I even had a big,
black bear visit my backyard (20 feet from my open bedroom window).

You may have heard that the forests have been burning here in GA, SC, NC and
now TN. Very frightening since I don’t have TV and am very isolated way back in
the woods. I have a nice rocking chair porch, a little creek and over 1 acre of
land along with a completely renovated 92 year old house. I wish you could
visit sometime!

Anita

Hi Anita:

How is everything with you? Have not seen you for some time now and really miss
the show; however, with the “no attendance fee” I’m sure everything remains the
same.

Earlene was diagnosed with breast and lymph node cancer in August and has been
undergoing chemo since then. She is holding up well except for being tired all
the time. She has four chemo left to go.

Yes, am still selling and buying meteorites, and we still do 6 shows. Still
have the travel bug so have to work to pay for the trips.

Let me know what is going on down south!

As Chris says...a meteor burning up is often appears to have landed on
nearby hills but in fact they are just traveling over the horizon at many
miles high before they burn up completely or cool enough to drop without
any light given out...they do not burn all the way to the ground. So the
one you saw would have gone into dark flight many many miles away.

If you see a meteor that appears to strike the ground, it's probably
over 100 miles away. Maybe much more. That's because they stop burning
when they're a few tens of miles high.

More power to you, Edwin! It is all about patience and persistence, and seems
to be especially so in the Sutter's Mill strewn field. But the Coloma area is
full of natural beauty. As long as you remember to look up from the ground now
and then to take it all in, the hunt is its own reward. :) Glad you're
feeling better, and I really hope you find the big one.

Best,
Doug Ross

It is getting hot in Coloma! Thirty four days in the area and not one
meteorite have I found. Have been investing most of the time in what should
be the large end of the strewn field. Thirty four days and I have yet to see
a rattlesnake. I enjoy snakes so this is a huge disappointment. I bought a
go-pro camera just so I can video a snake in the wild. They have caught over
twenty baby rattlesnakes by the river in the campground where I am staying
but I haven't seen any of those either. Lots of turkeys, lizards, coyotes,
foxes, toads and bullfrogs. A few bobcats but no cougars yet. Did get to see
a huge king snake but I hadn't figured out how to use the camera yet. It was
good hunting weather this past week but is getting hot again. Hot days I only
hunt until 1pm. Am getting about 7 to 8 hours a day out hiking. Am meeting
lots of great people here and have looked at a lot of very nice stones. a
number of stones are being found by locals on there own land.

Fellow strewn-field hunters and List,

Like Edwin, I've been on the lower Cronan Ranch well over 30 days, and his
comments accurately echo my own adventuresoddly, the same critter counts
for me (excepting the cats)...and not a single rattlesnake yet, but one
Kingsnake. There are PLENTY of large shed-skins here and there scattered
across the dry grasses and rocky outcropsexactly where one would expect
to find the Crotalis. I use two hiking sticks (no magnets) and have
attached a small camel-bell to the base of each...perhaps a little warning
system for close-by snakes, who knowsand a must are the snake gaiters.

As with ET, I'm done by mid-day, not only because of the heat, but my
ligament-less legs allow 4-6 hours in the steep drying grass, and beneath
the oaks. The ground beneath the oaks is by far the best ground to search,
providing poison oak, ticks and shade...and yet no stone for me.

I live close to the area (an hour away), and have been biking into the areas
saving the miles into and out of the area for my legs. As I write, I'm
preparing to head out, once again...and each step might show me a stone!

Hello everyone. I just wanted to say that I am very proud to be a new mwmber
of the IMCA (#6276), and am anxious to start a whole new level of learning
here. I know some of you through other forums, or through stories - good and
bad, but mostly good, and I hope to make more new friends and aquaintanced
along the way. I have been a collector for almost two years now and have a
nice little gathering of space rocks...Here are a few

[meteorite-list] Hello Everyone ^^

2010-08-18 Thread Brittany Ermel
Hey Everyone I'm Jesse.

Just thought I would say hello and let you all know I'm new to the
list + Meteorites overall.

I got into Meteorites about a month ago and it has been non stop sence ^^.

It all started with me and fossils a long time go when I was a kid and
my father took me to a local gem show and I remember I saw a Meteorite
and i asked my Dad * Hey Dad what is that thing?* but he did not know
=P

Then I saw Steve and Geoff on TV and at first I thought it was pretty
cool and my Dad even got into watching the show. *Also Nice job Steve
and Geoff and nice finds!* and also at first it made this kinda spark
in me but I never looked into it all ect. until one day i was making
some gemstone necklaces and stoped into my local metal detector shop
to see if he had any gems and saw a beautiful Canyon Diablo * its now
sold and gone =[* But then thats when it hit me that this is something
I want to do for the rest of my life. So i got my first Campo Del
Cielo its a small 15.6g but it's still my first one ^^.

So i have been saving my money up and got a few more meteorites. so
within one month I got

Campo Del Ceilo - 15.6g
Gold Basin - 2.5g
Nantan - 4g
Canyon Diablo + some Oxide ones. *still can't seem to figure what
oxide meens tho?* total is 20.8g
Admire - 2g
Wolf Creek - 0.50g
And a Chergach with some really nice fusion crust one it. 3.7g

Now they are rather small and from what I hear they are called Micros?
But still such a small thing can make someone so happy ^^.

And also im thinking about joining the Meteoritical Society thanks to
Mike from Galactic-Stone.

Plans I guess for the future for me would be to go on a hunt and find
my first Meteorite, Buy and sell some Meteorites and make tons of new
friends ^^

Sadly I live in the Midwest and its not a to common place to find
Meteorites but then again I have seen some close falls on TV and
whatnot. So hopefully I can make it out to AZ for the next gem show
and get to meet most of the people on here.

Anyways that's enough about me and don't want to take up anymore time
than I have.

Thanks for reading.

Jesse Piper

PS.
My fiance Brit is letting me use her email so if it comes in as
Brittany Ermel I'm sorry xD

2010-08-18 Thread Carl 's

Hi Jesse,

Welcome to the List! I'm a newbie, too. The Campo was my first meteorite as
well. Canyon Diablo oxides just means they've rusted and either collected from
falling off of larger pieces or are just found that way. A lot of hard to find
iron meteorites are going to be oxides although CDs are relatively common. Have
a great journey to the stars and may your paypal account never be empty!:D

so, without NWA material, I do not see any surprises at any show except a
new fall like Carancas at the great Munich show that everybody wishes to be

Not quite correct - each Munich show has its non-NWA-novelties.
This year one could allow for them besides Carancas the amazing individuals
of the La Mancha fall, some new Oman goodies from Dima
and Sergej Vassiliev brought along three new Russian names, chondrites,
one of them an almost-fall with very good crust, the fireball was observed,
but the stone was found a while later on a parking site on a road.

Best,

Betreff: [meteorite-list] Hello Munich NWA surprises

Dear List Members,
First, let me thank you all those who shared the
exciting pics from the show with us, there is no doubt
those who were there have enjoyed their time, getting
new items, and new iformations, without forgetting the
party, everybody had to have fun. I wish one day, I
can get there and play guitar at the party, some songs
of the Pink floyd and Bob dylan, Eric Clapton..., and
the wonderful Germany group , The Scorpions.

Concerning the Mali meteorite and its
commercialization, My point of veiw is, we first need
to identify if the meteorite is a fall or find, if
it's a fall we have to know when it fell, and of
course get it classified ( Fortunately, Dr. Svend Buhl
is taking care of the classification).

About the price, I was wondering if you were talking
about the wholesale price or in detail, as we know, we
have Two kind of customers, the Dealer and the
Collector, please do not expect me to sell to both at
the same price, I respect the marketing and this will
never happen.

Mike, you've got the wholesale price (you claimed
large countity at $1 or $1.25),Mr Habibi was selling
to collectors, yes only collectors, because there is
no a dealer who's willing to pay the same price as the
collector paid, so both of you mike and Habibi are
wrong dicussing the price(Clarify which direction of
selling ), If i'm ready to sell directly to the
collectors, I would get my spicemens pictured from all
the sides with my scale cube and post an add to the
list, but unfortunately we all are waitting for more
info ( the history and the classification), I do not
like to sell a meteorite as a fall, and then it turnes
out to be a find because of no datas, I'm working
hardly and spending money trying to get enough info to
call this wonderfull meteorite a FALL I do not
beleive on saying, we need the proof, isn't it? I hope
the price will stabilze and more info will come.

A note breif, at any show, the most excitting news
come from what Moroccans brought to the show, I think
most of you after passing the show door, go directly
to the nearest moroccan's table, hopping to get a good
deal, so, without NWA material, I do not see any
surprises at any show except a new fall like Carancas
at the great Munich show that everybody wishes to be
there but, (Mike) each one has his circumstances, for
me, simply, I can not get the Visa yet, but will try
again.
All in all, the show was great even from just the
photos, congratulations to our Germany friends.
My best
Aziz Alhyane

A note breif, at any show, the most excitting news
come from what Moroccans brought to the show, I think
most of you after passing the show door, go directly
to the nearest moroccan's table, hopping to get a good
deal, so, without NWA material, I do not see any
surprises at any show except a new fall like Carancas
at the great Munich show that everybody wishes to be
there but, (Mike) each one has his circumstances, for
me, simply, I can not get the Visa yet, but will try
again.
All in all, the show was great even from just the
photos, congratulations to our Germany friends.
My best

[meteorite-list] Hello Patrick, or ...

2007-06-08 Thread bernd . pauli
.. had I better say Mr. Pallasite?! ;-)

Welcome to the List and bye-bye to your status as a lurker. It was delightful
to visit
your revamped website and anyone who is seriously and passionately into
meteorites,
can literally feel your enthusiasm while looking at your pics. Your website,
and, the
illustrious crowd you have assembled there (Bob Haag, Roman, Mike T., Mike F.,
McCartney, our own Stefan Ralew... just to name a few), are ample proof you got
the meteorite bug ... a contagious disease as we all know ;-))

If I were you, I wouldn't take pictures of our beloved meteorites at an oblique
angle
because too many beautiful details just don't show. One example, your DHO 1180
(Lunar) probably of M.F. provenance - the oblique view doesn't do that lunar
beauty
justice. I, personally, would also prefer a millimeter (or centimeter) scale
instead of a
pencil to give people an idea how big my slice of XYZ is.

One last comment - I hope you don't mind - subjective comments like nice
crust have
no scientific (and no real personal) value. *You* know the crust is nice,
others, if they
know anything about meteorites and their crusts, will instantly see how nice
the crust is.
Example: Your beautiful and impressive Holbrook specimen; it has a very
nice shape,
it is museum quality! Those in the know know, others wouldn't care because
they do
not see the inherent beauty of these celestial treasures!

Best wishes from
Germany,

Bernd

[meteorite-list] Hello all trade offer Ad?

2007-04-26 Thread Mike Miller

Hello everyone as most of you know I specialize in cutting and etching
iron meteorites. I have very nice full slices of Brenham, Gibeon and
Henbury that I am working on right now. I am willing to consider trade
offers, what I am looking for are #1 stone meteorites that are good
candidates to slice. (look nice inside)
#2 Irons that I can cut and etch
#3 just about anything else as long as the trade makes sense.
In other words I am not interested in trading some slice that you have
had on your website for 3 years at some high end price range unless
you are will to use the same high end price range on my material. As
an example if you think your whole Gibeon is worth .50 per gram then
my etched Gibeon is worth $2 per gram and I have no problem at those
prices. Now to trade your Gibeon at .50 gram and my slices at .75 per
gram, well lets just say that is something I am not interested in.
You can look at my website to see some examples of the slices and
there etches, however these slices on my site are not the actual
pieces that I am trading just look at them as samples. The actual
pieces will be determined before we make any final decisions.

Hi All, Walter was a customer of mine more than a couple of times. So
I feel compelled to help if I can. I would like to ask for someone on
this list to help me help Walter and his family. If you have had your
eye on any of the full slices on my web site I will donate all the
proceeds up to $500 to Walter and his family. Now here is the catch I
am leaving first thing in the morning and will be gone 2 weeks. So if
I don't find out which slice you are interested in I won't have it
with me and you will have top wait until I return in 2 weeks to get
your meteorite. We can still get the money to Walter and his family
but unless I hear from you tonight before I leave you will have to
wait. So will someone help me help Walter? Any meteorite off my web
site the first $500 Will go to Walter. www.meteoritefinder.com

Re: [meteorite-list] Hello

2006-08-28 Thread Gerald Flaherty

HI Steve and welcome to the Meteorite List. I've
got only atwo year head start on you. And I can assure you that if you
stay "tuned" you'll soon be quite able to decern a meteorite from an rock of
earth origin.
Terrestrial rocks, like the ones whose pictures
you've supplied, do indeedcontain evidence of the tumultuous, tortuous
igneous and metamorphic processes that formed them.
Intrusions of molten material under intense
pressures leave their unmistakable signatures.
Impact shock viens look suspiciously similar but
the very texture of your rocks belie their origin.
Stick around and the three categories, iron,
stoney-iron and stoney meteorites will eventually "jump" out at you [98% of the
time]

Hi Ed,

Welcome to the Met List. My favorite email list. I too am fairly new to
collecting,
having begun just 8 months ago. Already my wife and I are doing presentations
to school
kids and giving each a meteorite. VERY rewarding and the best way to inspire
future
collectors and even scientists.

This week we were in Ontario and I got the opportunity to talk space and matter
and Big
Bang and meteorites with a 16 year old son of a friend. He was very impressed
with it
all and I believe he is a new convert to space science. He spoke of desiring
to be
involved in the space programs as an adult - something I would love to see
happen. He is
smart as can be and would make a fine scinetist no matter which discipline he
eventually
chooses.

Again, Welcome.

Re: [meteorite-list] Hello

2006-05-26 Thread Meteoriteshow
Hi Ed,

Welcome to the List! As Göran wrote before you should not worry about 'stupid'
questions as there are only questions to which you
need to get an answer for a better understanding. This is the same for all of
us ~;o)!

I hope that you will enjoy collecting meteorites as much as we all do. As far
as i'm concerned I was amazed by the answers that
meteorites bring to the questions we have about the history of our solar
system. They are an open book of history actually and I
learned and keep on learning so many things through meteorites thanks to
scientific studies that are carried out on them. Two days
ago I attended a conference in my home town of Lyon, France, that was given by
a scientist of the ENS (Ecole Normale Superieure) who
is a specialist of meteorites. A two hour long talk that was absolutely
outstanding and I can tell you that even though I started
about 5 years ago with meteorites, I learned a lot during those two hours.
That is to say that none of us can say that he/she knows everything about
meteorites, and we all have questions about them, as well
as you have!
Enjoy your new passion and keep well!!!

Hi Ed!

I was a newbie two years ago with a number of years as a rock collector
before that, so we share a common ground.

Meteorites are a wonderful hobby but you already know that. :-)
As you have seen on the list there are some fighting and shouting but
when you ignore that you realise that it is a wonderful source of
information and a great place to ask questions.

So, go on and ask your questions. As I always says, there is no stupid
questions but the ones you don't ask. I think there are more beginners
out there and we will all learn from the answers.

[meteorite-list] Hello Mars, Meet 'MR. O': The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter

2005-01-19 Thread Ron Baalke

http://www.space.com/businesstechnology/technology/mr_o_tech_050119.html

Hello Mars, Meet 'MR. O': The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter
By Leonard David
space.com
19 January 2005

DENVER, Colo. -- The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter is one giant
spacecraft, built to take unprecedented photos of the red planet.
Engineers are in test time mode here at Lockheed Martin Space Systems,
builder of the spacecraft, as the countdown ticks down for the probe's
summer launch.

Teams of technicians now swarm around the spacecraft as it enters the
final four months of system and environmental tests. The checklist calls
for the Mars-bound craft to be out the door of the aerospace company
in April and en route to Florida.

Sent Marsward atop an Atlas 5 booster, the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter
(MRO) will tip the scales at 4,796 lbs (2,180 kilograms) at liftoff.

Brimming with science instruments -- rooted to a potent chassis of
electronic, propulsion, and mechanical gear -- MRO will be the largest
spacecraft to orbit the red planet. Science gleaned from this mission is
expected to dramatically expand our knowledge of Mars.

Let's get intense

We call it 'Mr. O', said Jim Graf, Project Manager for MRO at NASA's
Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California. It's an
amazing piece of hardware. The time is right for it - it just has such
capability, he told SPACE.com during a recent inspection of the
interplanetary spacecraft.

Less than two years from now, MRO is tasked to start a series of global
mapping, regional survey and targeted observations from a near-polar,
low-altitude Mars orbit. It will fly closer to the martian surface than
any other orbiter has ever gone.

MRO is equipped with six primary instruments: the High Resolution
Imaging Science Experiment, Context Camera, Mars Color Imager, Compact
Reconnaissance Imaging Spectrometer for Mars, Mars Climate Sounder and
Shallow Radar. The orbiter will also carry a telecommunications relay
package and two engineering demonstrations.

The road to Mars for MRO has not been without difficulty.

The development of the instruments - they are all state-of-the-art, Graf
said. They are brand new instruments. So that has been one of the
biggest challenges.

Graf said that MRO is an unprecedented workhorse of a spacecraft. Given
its memory storage and computer smarts, as well as the probe's
telecommunications package and power capability, it's the cornerstone
of the future Mars program, he said.

MRO carries a large set of solar arrays and a huge high gain antenna.
It's wonderful isn't it, Graf said, pointing to the dish antenna that
measures some 10-feet (3 meters) in diameter -- hardware that will
enable the craft to pump out enormous streams of information back to
Earth from Mars orbit.

We're going to be awash in data. There's no doubt about it, Graf
added. Let's get intense - start an investigation of the planet in a mode
that's entirely different than anything we've done before.

Test like you fly

MRO has moved into a robust pace of testing, said Kevin McNeill, MRO
program manager at Lockheed Martin Space Systems.

The spacecraft has undergone an acoustic simulation of its Atlas 5 ride
into space. Solar array and high gain antenna test deployments were near
at hand. Among other key milestones, exposure of MRO to thermal and
vacuum conditions that imitate the real deal of trekking through space
to Mars was slated for next month.

When you do the environmental testing, you want to follow the
environments that you'll see in the actual sequence of flight, McNeill
said. You want to test like you fly.

Located just a few buildings away from where MRO is undergoing
evaluation, Lockheed Martin rocketeers are assembling and testing the
Atlas 5 launch vehicle -- designated AV-007 -- that will toss the
spacecraft onward to the red planet.

The booster will be shipped to Cape Canaveral, Florida in March with MRO
sent to the spaceport on April 29th, McNeill said, with liftoff
scheduled for August 10th as target date in a 20-day launch window.

Sure to find surprises

At Mars, MRO observations will be unmatched in terms of the spatial
resolution and coverage achieved by the orbiter's instruments.

In the Mars exploration program, we've adopted a 'follow the water'
strategy - and our MRO mission is part of that, said JPL's Rich Zurek,
MRO project scientist. This orbiter is very much following up on the
very recent discoveries, he said, noting the findings of the
still-going-strong Mars rovers, Spirit and Opportunity.

Zurek said MRO is booked with early work at the start of a
five-and-a-half year agenda.

For one, MRO will scope out a landing site for NASA's Phoenix lander.
That mission is to land in the northern polar region of Mars in May
2008. Once on the surface, the stationary lander is to use its robotic
arm to expose the upper few feet of surface material in a search for ice.

One of the first things on MRO's priority list is to scan possible
Phoenix lander sites for any

[meteorite-list] Hello all, (off topic somewhat)

2005-01-01 Thread Steve Schoner
Hello everyone,

It has been two years since my catastrophic brush with
death having come down with ADEM in the first week of
Jan. 2003. The Clyde Tombaugh House (the inadvertant
cause of my auto-immune reaction) is in limbo, and I
now wonder if I will ever finish it.

What a journey it has been since I got out of the
hospital. I still cannot drive. And though I think
I can, the specialists at the hospital say no.

This has been a terrible blow to me as I cannot do
what I would like to do most, and that is to go out in
the field again.

And there was one major seizure that landed me in the
hospital when I went out to Glorieta with Rob Reisner.
It was a shock to me and him. And there have been
many partial seizures since. Brief moments when an
aura appears somewhere in my senses and it is as if
I am screwing up out of my head.

So, I have gone through many MRI's and therapy to
overcome the disabilities that ADEM has imposed on me.

But from I have been told, two years is the time frame
of possible recovery from ADEM.

I know what my limitations are now. And I will have
to accept them.

And though I do not post much, or very often at the
this Metlist I do peek in to see what is happening and
who is finding what, and the falls, and the Ebay adds
(that I hate) are. But for me it is sad, as it is as
if I am looking out through a window, watching but not
able to participate.

I won't be going to Tucson Show this year or any other
year after. I am too mentally fragile to deal with
the hustle and bustle of that scene.

God, but a good meteorite trip with a friend or my
daughter is what I long for.

Maybe...

But I have not sat idle for 2 years. I have been out
in the field with Rob and Tim. We spent some time at
dry lakes and Glorieta. Found a really weird 1,200
gram Glorieta that is flat .75 x 4 x 9 Found it
within one hour of searching. (I will post an image of
it at my my web site)

And besides the 3 or 4 times out, I have spent a good
portion of the last two years finishing up details on
a manuscript that I wrote before I became ill. It took
16 years to write _Scarlet_Fields_ a Civil War novel.
Just got the proof copy from the publisher. And when
the final revisions are made this week it will be
done.
Then I will proceed in writing a story about what my
affliction is and what it did to me.

I have already put up a basic site regarding this.

Go to Yahoo and to the Search field and type in:

slides from my brain

It will pop up in the search list. And in it there
will also be a link to MRI SCANS that I recently
uploaded. The neurosurgeons have told me that it is a
miracle that I survived based upon what they saw in
those images. No one they had ever seen with that
much involvement to the brain survived. Even to come
out as a vegetable would have been a miracle.

Well I am alive and not a vegetable. And yes it was a
miracle. Though at times I feel like a plant.

Anyway, I wish you all the best and hope that you all
do well in your meteorite endeavors and at the Tucson
Show.

2004-12-26 Thread Bob Evans
Where is everyone? I know Mike Farmer got back from the Tokyo show
. Told me he was tired as hell from the trek home, and then he
disappeared . I thought he might share his experience with the show (
Highlights, etc.) maybe even offer a nice new meteorite to sell us.
What about Xmas? Did anyone get any nice new meteorites?
I was expecting a new 8 saw to do some cutting. Instead I got a brand new
kick ass computer , fast as hell !! ( poor me :-) . I guess I'll have to buy
the saw for myself. Maybe the wife thought my having a saw would consume
more of my time that I could be spending with her.

So whats the deal ?? anyone get a meteorite for Christmas ?

2004-07-04 Thread Becky and Kirk
Dear Group,
My name is Kirk, I live in Wisconsin. I am a NEW member in the group. I
wish you all well, and I look forward to learning from you all.
I am just beginning my Meteorite collection, although I have been
interested in them for years now. I would like to add a few new pieces
to my collection, while trying to keep my costs down. I would like to
begin with by adding a nice piece of the Allende Meteorite to my
collection, I have heard a great deal about its beauty and colors. I
ALSO would like to add a Stony piece and a Stony-Iron speciman. Perhaps
a piece of NWA869 or something similiar for the Stony piece, and perhaps
a piece of the Imilac Meteorite for the Stony-Iron speciman. I would
also like an example perhaps of a non-Henbury Iron type speciman, I
already have a nice piece of Henbury. AndI would like to add that I
can't spend t much right now, but I would like to add these 3 or 4
pieces to my collection right now, while I learn more about some of the
others.
I hope that there will be some good folks out there who will come
forward, who can sell me some nice GENUINE pieces, at a REASONABLE
price. I know now is a good time to start collecting more, because the
prices are down.
So I am looking for someone to help me get going. Please contact me
off-list if you would like, or on-list too! Thank you very much in
advance! Have a great July 4th everyone, but play it safe!
Sincerely,
Kirk.

Dear List,

Much to my surprise,I've actually missed you guys these last couple of months. The bottom line is, regardless of the barb-slinging sideshows that sometimes flare up, this list is the collaborative output of the most of the world's greatest meteorite minds. I learn SOMETHING every day reading this list; and I always look for anything I might be able to contribute. That being said, I found this paper (link) to be a fascinating, detailed answer to a question I'd never considered before; I recommend giving it a read if you have a chance.

2002-05-02 Thread Mark Bostick

Hello Everyone,

I have been sick the last few weeks so I have been kinda quite.
If I missed anyones e-mail please re-email me. I would like to thank
everybody for their kind words lately. Whether it was get well or nice
article or whatever. The meteorite community is a great group of people
even if we cant all get along all the time...:-)

Also, in light of the fact I feel better and just wrote Gold Basin article
in the latest MeteoriteTimes issue I would give a free Gold Basin meteorite to
someone. I liked the Name that Tune a few list members did but it made me
think you guys wouldnt know the music I listen to so I have decided to do
something didn't in which everyone can answer to. A free 15.8 gram Gold
Basin individual goes towhoever lives the closest to a meteorite find or
fall in his collection. My would be Belle Plaine, Kansas.
Its about10 miles from me. The storms (this is Kansas...no hills,
mountains, tall trees, ects. ) Usally hit them first so I here the name all the
time on the news.. I have a nice 75 grams slice with a Westcott
number (the finder) I traded from Steve Arnold. (There might be a closer
one to me but I havent seen it YET). So whats the closest meteorite find
or fall to you?

I back to around 200 eBay auctions so while your thinking feel free to
brouse my side of eBay...here's my lastauction

G'day Mark,

Glad to hear you are better. I've got a few within a 90 odd minute drive.
How's Cranbourne (~30km), Willow Grove (~90km) and Murchison (~150km)?

Just for interest; there's a road in Murchison called Meteorite Street!

Thanks,

[meteorite-list] Hello Everyone! Several Topics

2002-01-15 Thread MARK BOSTICK
Hello All, Havent made a post in several days so I thought I would do a little update. The new issue of Voyage! Meteorite and Space Events magazine is out. As some of you know I run a column their on meteorites on Ebay besides occasional articles such as the 8 page or something like that review I did on the Denver show. If anyone has not read it e-mail me and I will send it to you. Voyage! is a non-profit magazine, if you have not read it lately I suggest picking upa copy. The new issue has Lenoid reports. The magazine does not pay me (or anyone else) to write. We doit for our love of meteorites. As a special offer to non-subscibers.subscibe this week and I will send you a free meteorite micromount! I will even pay the postage. Just e-mail John and e-mail me that you have subscibed with your address. Tuscon is right around the corner. I'm getting excited. I think I will bring a couple of my cool thins to look under Dean's microscope. Lets hope he has no prolem bringing it across the borderDont they do a radiation testor likesuch equipment at the border cross Dean? Denver was a lot of fun during a very down week. If you have not been to either of the BIG shows, now is the time! CR2 Meteorites.. Been looking over my CR2's and they have me puzzled. Why is their armoured chondrules on a CR2? What a strange meteorite.. eBay auctions.. I have about 250 auctions going right now. Meteorites, Fossils, and more check them out...search seller: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mohamadour meteorite hunting " " (add your own word here) Its nice to see you have took up meteorites. While I have seen nothing yet in your photos that look like a meteorite do not give up hope. History has shown...anyone keeps looking for meteoriteswill find them. My suggestion to the list on this subject is too be a little nicer:-) Meteorite Sale List After numerous request...mostly from Voyage! readersI have made a Meteorite Price List. If anyone is interested let me know and I will e-mail it to you. OkayI think that about covers it. Thanks for reading this far, Mark Bostick "The Big Collector"
