[MOPO] Pick more winners of the top eight Oscar categories than other entrants and win a Grand Prize worth at least $1,000 retail!

2010-02-09 Thread Bruce Hershenson
In my weekly e-mail club (5,900+ members) I am holding a series of 8 polls
to see what members can pick the most correct winners of the top 8 Oscar
categories!

The Grand Prize will be at least $1,000 retail and there will be runner-up
prizes. If you are not already a member, go to
http://www.emovieposter.com/mail/clubsignup.php and join. If you are already
a member, be sure to vote in the first two polls before this coming Friday
morning (it just takes a minute to vote, and it may be *YOU *getting that
Grand Prize!).Bruce P.S. There is no truth to the rumor that the Grand Prize
will be a slightly banged up tri-folded Help one-sheet or that the runner up
prize will be a "rare" Woodstock one-sheet from a warehouse find.

Re: [MOPO] registered mail

2010-02-09 Thread Kevin Conway

Notice this link does NOT mention tracking, but ONLY "you can confirm delivery".  So , apprently Registered does NOT provide tracking.  I actually have an example from last week that confirms this.  Matter of fact it has LESS tracking info then standard delivery confirmation, believe it or not.

Dave,
Did you actually try tracking the Registered ONLINE?   Unless the PO has updated their system, you Can NOT.  I just went through this last year.  I had a customer who I sent a package Registered.  Two weeks later , when I assumed he got it, he asked "where's my stuff/  I  went online and put in Registered tracking number. Got an Error, "no information with that number".  I had to call and speak to someone in the postal system to track it down.  After about a half hour they tracked it to his post office.  So, now I add confirmation to registered so I can track (or verify if reached destination) Online.

Registered mail is trackable by the way, not sure here who said it isn't, but it is...we use it all the time.

anywayas soon as we mailed the package..it disappeared. There was no record of it anywhere in the usps system. I think it was going to Texas, so it wasn't very far.

about six weeks went by, several trips to the post office were useless...and as I was in the middle of filling out all the paperwork filing a claim...it magically appeared at the buyers doorstep.

six friggin weeks later!

never got an explanation from the usps.

it definitely is the best and safest way to ship a valuable item though.

Just wanted to say that the Help! one sheets I received were exactly as described.  I think the total problem was in the method of shipment--that the tubes were not as sturdy as they should have been. This is not an example of any deception whatsoever in terms of the condition of the posters BEFORE they were shipped.
I bought 4 of them in all and because I only live a few miles away from the dealer, the tube arrived in perfect condition.  But obviously it was not a sturdy enough tube and in some instances couldn't withstand being sent a longer distance.  There was no hidden agenda here on the seller's part in terms of the condition of the Help! one sheets PRIOR to being shipped.

I am looking at a registered right now.  It does not provide info for each station where it is signed for. As a matter of fact the one I am now looking at I sent last week, does NOT even give Origin information, NO tracking info on WHEN or WHERE it left from?  AND, until the person actually signs for it, you may get NO information as many post offices do NOT scan until pickup.  Which will result in a "NO Information" message online.

Re: [MOPO] Anyone received Beatles "HELP" Tri-Folded One Sheet posters?

2010-02-09 Thread Phillip W. Ayling
I received poster. Poster was rolled and may well have been mint before being
packaged, but it was rolled when placed into tube. Once unrolled, left side of
poster was crinkled and damaged, as if it was forced into bottom of tube...and
lame tube at that.

  Kevin (and Rick),

Hmmm... I have not received mine either. Marci and Teri acknowledged the
receipt of my PayPal payment on Jan. 31 -- so there has been time for it to get
here based on what their auction description of "Estimated delivery within 5-8
business days" at their Ebay auction for this poster:

http://cgi.ebay.com/THE-BEATLES-ORIGINAL-HELP-ONE-SHEET-POSTER-TRI-FOLDED_W0QQitemZ190369070076QQ

But it's only been 7 business days as of today, so that's not necessarily
cause for concern. I did email them an inquiry today -- and since I paid for
insurance I would expect them to provide a tracking number. ALL post offices
offer tracking number service. It costs a buck or so, but for purchases like
this I would have expected an ebay Seller with over 6,000 positive feedbacks to
provide a tracking number. Perhaps a bit disturbing is the fact that I don't
expect an Ebay seller with over 6,000 positive feedbacks to claim their post
office doesn't offer tracking. That's odd.

Rick, if you see this, it might be a good idea to send Mari a brief message
asking her what's up with the shipments?

Re: [MOPO] Help Beatles Posters

2010-02-09 Thread Kevin Conway
In an ideal world, that would be the ideal scenario. But, let's face it, the
collectibles business is all about finding hidden treasures. And, most of the
time the most desirable "goods" are in the hands of less known sellers who were
the recipients of the "old lady's attic" or were at the right place and the
right time to discover a BOX of UNUSED Help Posters. Hence, all too often the
luxury of our favorite or well known dealer is not in the equation.

I actually use Registered for anything over $2500, as the insurance is about a third of the same value using Priority. And, as you mention , up to $25,000.  AND, the PO will insure fine art and collectibles, Fedex and UPS will NOT.   Read their insurance clause.

[MOPO] mopo--- package delivery USPS

2010-02-09 Thread Tom Martin
Hello Folks.. For rolled posters fed ex group and ups are good. they
have tracking

The priority is Good by USPS and are actually handled BY FEDEX as USPS
has no planes so they Use fed ex and common carrier domestic airlines i
have ben told.

Delivery confirmation is a green slip add on by Usps that if you do
online at www.usps.com is 60cent or 70

at the window at PO office.

For Rolled posters I suggest Yazoo Mills Tubes in Pa . I use 3 inch
and 4 inch.. x 36 long the 4 will hold 50 one
sheet roll nice and the 3 is durable for onsies they cost 2-3 a piece
and are boxes liek 20 and 10 per box.

Yazoo sents postpaid on east coast.

For flat posters I use the priority boxes and sandwich in board.

Also the 4 inch PVC sewr pipe availible at home depot is like 6.00 for a
10 foot piece and jsut use a hack saw to cut or radial arm saw.

The end caps can be bought from either yazoo or alliance plastics/

I also use hraft paper and foam to wrap the posters the kraft can be
bought from a corrogated box company
as the liner that makes the box is rolled paper.. 1/8 inch poly foam
makes a great cushion.

I use making tape inside as if it gets on the paper can be released ..
Then on outside I use filiment tape on caps as they tend to POP open ..
then I seal well with packing tape
also I will typically wrap the foam and kraft wrap in a sealed Poly bag
in case the entire tube were to be emersed in a lquid.
the end I leave a space and fill with a cushion on both ends to absorb
shock.

at finally if te item warrants it we insure for the value... most
items may be tracked at the home sites

of Ups, usps or fedex.
usps scans periodically... fedex scans at each stop that transfers tjhe
load I believe..

International PRIORITY uses the customs form as the tracking number

Hope that helps/

Exactly, as Rich and Jeff agree/explained
(hey... wait... is that a Mopo first?):

I've received several packages shipped via the
Post Office with this kind of tracking (sending
it "registered"). It works, except for one
caveat: They are very slow to update the stops
the package is making. Usually, by the time the
tracking on their website indicates it has left
California and is now in Dallas or Atlanta it is
actually showing up on my doorstep. So, not as
good as the near-real-time tracking of UPS and
Fedex, but at least you can see that the package
has been shipped, is in the system and is
moving. It's proof that the shipper has actually
shipped and is not still holding on to the item
after 7 days, which is all I'm really looking for in a tracking number.

Kevin's report of incredibly poor packaging and
shipping damage on his HELP poster is *very*
disturbing. If that happens to me, the poster is
going back immediately and a PayPal refund demand filed even faster.

How could *anyone*, much less an Ebay seller
with over 6,000 positive feedbacks, ship a $350
poster like that? Or *any* poster, for that matter?

But it's only been 7 business days as of
today, so that's not necessarily cause for
concern. I did email them an inquiry today --
and since I paid for insurance I would expect
them to provide a tracking number. ALL post
offices offer tracking number service. It
costs a buck or so, but for purchases like
this I would have expected an ebay Seller with
over 6,000 positive feedbacks to provide a
tracking number. Perhaps a bit disturbing is
the fact that I don't expect an Ebay seller
with over 6,000 positive feedbacks to claim

That's not what we need for a $300 poster. Delivery Confirmation is scanned at the post office destination and will let us know if it ever arrived at our post office.   Many times a package has sat in my local post office and I checked online and went down and picked it up. That is adequate "tracking" as the alternative total "limbo"

To anyone who wants to know why the Hope Diamond can ship by Registered.registered mail is signed for by each post office employee that handles the package and it is locked in a safe at each location along the way to it's destination when having an overnight stay. So there is never any doubt who handled it or at what point in it's travelling roadshow. Registered is a very expensive optional service (and certainly not available online from Paypal shipping, Stamps.com, or any other source) that starts at $10.60 in addition to regular postage and I would imagine most shippers don't use it (we oftentimes do when shipping items valued at $1000 or more). With the way people already cry about postage rates, telling them it will be an extra $10.60 if they want to be able to track their package (and then hearing them whine about how much slower it got there) is not something most sellers or customers want to hear. Tracking as it refers to "delivery confirmation" is a misnomer, and most people who purchase delivery confirmation think they are purchasing tracking, when in fact they are not (like Peter's mistaken belief about Stamps.com). That being said - registered is certainly the absolute safest way to ship something (as the USPS likes to brag, even the Hope Diamond was shipped via registered mail).

Rick,
Normally I would just send them back and move on!  But, these are great posters and I was really excited about getting them. Waited almost two weeks. So, I bought a few of them.   When the postman pulled the tube out of his truck and walked up my driveway , it was like a BAD DREAM.  Gorgeous mint one sheets, Now George Harrison has a wrinkled face.  Also, was surprised and bummed she wouldn't pull the one's she is still selling on eBay to replace mine.

I think I owe the members of MoPo who purchased the Help! one sheets an apology. Not because they're any less than what they were described as being(I received the one sheets I bought from Marci ony a day or two after paying for them, but I live in L.A.  and they were shipped from 10 miles away in Santa Monica. Upon receiving the posters, I was completely satisfied--they were just as described).  In retrospect, I really kick myself for not emailing Marci and saying, "Hey, why in God's name are you sending these great one sheets in such a cheap, flimsy tube?"  I should have contacted her immediately about that, but I didn't.
I did email her today about the situation at hand, but haven't heard back from her yet.  I'm sure she'll make good on whatever problems have occurred because of her unbelievably dumb shipping errormaybe for a $20 piece of garbage poster...but not these! My God!  I'm really, really sorry, Kevin.  Believe me, if I'd known that anything remotely like this would have occurred, I never, ever would have gotten involved.  I was trying to do a good thing for all of those involved and for some (obviously including Marci herself) it seems to have backfired. I'm sorry.

Re: [MOPO] Anyone received Beatles "HELP" Tri-Folded One Sheet posters?

2010-02-09 Thread Kevin Conway

I disagree with YOUR definition of "tracking".  AND, Registerd DOES NOT track online.  If you go online you do NOT get tracking info for Registered (last time I tried ). . I had to call a PO phone number to get the Registered tracking info. Hence, I add "delivery confirmation".  because if the customer misses the delivery and wonders WHERE his package is, I can check online via Priority Delivery Confirmation and inform him his pckage is sitting waiting for him at the PO.  CANNOT do that with ONLY registered tracking #.   If that is NOT tracking, then someone is making up their own definition.

Yes - Registered is the ONLY tracking service that the USPS uses for domestic Priority and First Class mail.

Delivery Confirmation is NOT tracking, it is simply what it's called - confirmation that a package is delivered, the USPS is not required to scan delivery confirmation at any point in the package's journey (and they usually don't) and the post office will tell you that it is NOT to be used to track a package.

It depends on WHAT you define as "tracking"?  I define it as being able to confirm delivery and track WHEN it arrives at it's destination, which Postal Priority service absolutely provides.

I understand that Stamps.com calls it a tracking number, but when you plug it
into the USPS.com database it tells you that service you purchased is signature
confirmation.
Which is another animal entirely, and it also states that delivery status will
be provided when available - but nothing about tracking.

Believe me - I use the paypal label printing service all the time, and paypal
says it is giving me a tracking number - but it's not good to track anything,
it's just delivery confirmation.

Re: [MOPO] Anyone received Beatles "HELP" Tri-Folded One Sheet posters?

2010-02-09 Thread Rixposterz

I think I owe the members of MoPo who purchased the Help! one sheets an
apology. Not because they're any less than what they were described as
being(I received the one sheets I bought from Marci ony a day or two after
paying for them, but I live in L.A. and they were shipped from 10 miles away
in Santa Monica. Upon receiving the posters, I was completely
satisfied--they were just as described). In retrospect, I really kick myself
for not
emailing Marci and saying, "Hey, why in God's name are you sending these
great one sheets in such a cheap, flimsy tube?" I should have contacted her
immediately about that, but I didn't.
I did email her today about the situation at hand, but haven't heard back
from her yet. I'm sure she'll make good on whatever problems have occurred
because of her unbelievably dumb shipping errormaybe for a $20 piece of
garbage poster...but not these! My God! I'm really, really sorry, Kevin.
Believe me, if I'd known that anything remotely like this would have
occurred, I never, ever would have gotten involved. I was trying to do a good
thing for all of those involved and for some (obviously including Marci
herself) it seems to have backfired.
   I'm sorry.

Sean is CORRECT on this one.
To anyone who wants to know why the Hope Diamond can ship by Registered.

registered mail is signed for by each post office
employee that handles the package and it is
locked in a safe at each location along the way
to it's destination when having an overnight
stay. So there is never any doubt who handled it
or at what point in it's travelling roadshow.
This person who signs is generally the manager of
each branch it travels through, or the truck driver or airplane crew manager

Tracking as it refers to "delivery confirmation"

That being said - registered is certainly the

Exactly, as Rich and Jeff agree/explained (hey... wait... is that a Mopo
first?):

I've received several packages shipped via the Post Office with this
kind of tracking (sending it "registered"). It works, except for one
caveat: They are very slow to update the stops the package is making.
Usually, by the time the tracking on their website indicates it has left
California and is now in Dallas or Atlanta it is actually showing up on
my doorstep. So, not as good as the near-real-time tracking of UPS and
Fedex, but at least you can see that the package has been shipped, is in
the system and is moving. It's proof that the shipper has actually
shipped and is not still holding on to the item after 7 days, which is
all I'm really looking for in a tracking number.

Kevin's report of incredibly poor packaging and shipping damage on his
HELP poster is *very* disturbing. If that happens to me, the poster is
going back immediately and a PayPal refund demand filed even faster.

How could *anyone*, much less an Ebay seller with over 6,000 positive
feedbacks, ship a $350 poster like that? Or *any* poster, for that matter?

Kevin (and Rick),

Hmmm... I have not received mine either. Marci and Teri
acknowledged the receipt of my PayPal payment on Jan. 31 -- so
there has been time for it to get here based on what their
auction description of "Estimated delivery within 5-8 business

But it's only been 7 business days as of today, so that's not
necessarily cause for concern. I did email them an inquiry today
-- and since I paid for insurance I would expect them to provide
a tracking number. ALL post offices offer tracking number
service. It costs a buck or so, but for purchases like this I
would have expected an ebay Seller with over 6,000 positive
feedbacks to provide a tracking number. Perhaps a bit disturbing
is the fact that I don't expect an Ebay seller with over 6,000
positive feedbacks to claim their post office doesn't offer
tracking. That's odd.

Rick, if you see this, it might be a good idea to send Mari a
brief message asking her what's up with the shipments?

Yes - Registered is the ONLY tracking service that the USPS uses for domestic
Priority and First Class mail.

Delivery Confirmation is NOT tracking, it is simply what it's called -
confirmation that a package is delivered, the USPS is not required to scan
delivery confirmation at any point in the package's journey (and they usually
don't) and the post office will tell you that it is NOT to be used to track a
package.

  INCORRECT.

Registered, first class mail can be tracked-- from stop to stop to final
destination.

oRegistered Mail – The mailpiece is accounted for its entire journey
and can be monitored from location to location. This service can be added to

We can track anything using priority mail.
I actually prefer the post office for shipments.
Prefer Express Mail to Fed Ex. No extra charge for Saturday
delivery, and historically FED EX will not give you insurance
over $500 for film posters. They're working to change that now
using outsourced insurers.

We never use UPS.

But it's only been 7 business days as of today, so that's not
necessarily cause for concern. I did email them an inquiry today -- and
since I paid for insurance I would expect them to provide a tracking
number. ALL post offices offer tracking number service. It costs a buck
or so, but for purchases like this I would have expected an ebay Seller
with over 6,000 positive feedbacks to provide a tracking number. Perhaps
a bit disturbing is the fact that I don't expect an Ebay seller with
over 6,000 positive feedbacks to claim their post office doesn't offer
tracking. That's odd.

Rick, if you see this, it might be a good idea to send Mari a brief
message asking her what's up with the shipments?

[MOPO] FA: 7,300+ lobby cards close in 13 hours (and in 2 days + 13 hours) & there are still lots of great cards at low, low, prices!

2010-02-09 Thread Bruce Hershenson
Week in and week out we auction hundreds of items that sell for low, low
prices (we actually sell lots and lots of items for $1 and $2, and a decent
percentage of what we auction goes for $14 and under, and our leading
'competitor" *NEVER* auctions a single item for less than $15, due to their
*outrageous* $14 minimum buyers premium).

But Tuesday night's* *600 single lobby cards (including 69 autographed ones,
and 80 title cards!), closing tonight, on the *9th* of February, represent *
REALLY* incredible values, and that includes a lot of decent titles, and yet
many of these are currently languishing at low, low, prices!

With just 13 hours to go, the 600 single lobby cards include 23 that are
still languishing at just $1 each, a surprising 104 that are still at $3
each or under, a silly 160 that are $5 each and under, and a mind-boggling
294 are still at just $10 each or under, and there are lots of better titles
in this "bottom 294", *INCLUDING SOME SIGNED CARDS AND TITLE CARDS*!

*HELLO! This is 2010, and I doubt you could have purchased many of these
lobby cards for $10 or under 20 years ago! And $10 is still only two-thirds
of the MINIMUM cost at those other auctions, and and you can get as many as
you want sent in one package anywhere in the U.S. for just $10 shipping for
all (or actual cost anywhere else), EVEN IF you win 100 or more!*

* *

Note that some auction houses treat their buyers as if it is Halloween
all year long, except they play many "tricks" on them, and give them very
few "treats"! They *SAY* their auctions are "$1 no reserve", but actually
they are "$15 no reserve" when take into account their minimum $14 buyers
premium. They *SAY* many of their items are in excellent condition ("very
fine to fine minus"?), but all too often the buyer receives an item that is
in far lesser condition than they said, and they even trick you with the
images, using "stock images" or "enhanced images". Worst of all, some use
"house bidders" who seem to have a spooky ability to bid just under the
amount the real bidders were bidding!
*But in eMoviePoster.com auctions, "$1 no reserve" means just that*, and
every week we sell lots and lots of items for just $1, $2, or $3! And every
item is honestly described, with a super-sized unenhanced image of every
item. And every item is truly sold, and to the highest bid placed by real
bidders! Why not make it *YOUR* New Year's resolution to solely deal with
100% honest auctions? Once you "go eMoviePoster.com", it is very hard to *
EVER* go back to those other kind of auctions!
This week, we are auctioning over 1,450 items in our Tuesday, Thursday,
and Sunday auctions, and it is virtually a certainty that some percentage of
them will sell for "bargain" prices, and there may be some absolute
"steals", and because we have such a *HUGE* selection, *you can easily find
extra items to add to your order and not pay any extra U.S. shipping, and
that can be a huge savings!* Remember that, unlike the majority of
"hobbies", where the money you spend on your hobby is gone forever, the
money you spend buying movie paper will almost certainly be recovered the
day you ever sell your collection (and many, many collectors have made lots
of money on their collection over time, because unlike stocks, vintage movie
paper continually rises over time!).

Of course, once you get *OVER* just $10, you start hitting lots and lots of
"better" titles, but an awful lot of those are currently at
*VERY*reasonable prices, far under what some of them have sold for in
the past
(the ones we can find any record of selling in the past!) including:
1d018 DEADLINE-U.S.A. signed LC #4 '52 by newspaper managing editor Humphrey
Bogart, w/Ed Begley!
