Bruce,

Huh? You just *today* sent us a post telling us how much you sold in
total during the first two installments of your current auction! Rod
didn't crow about an individual poster sale, he simply mentioned he had
sold a batch of 1,000 cards for a $20,000 total. No different from what
you did today. I got no problem with your post or Rod's... just
wondering why some seemed to be taking Rod to task and insinuating that
he somehow overcharged or did something not quite kosher.

[MOPO] SCOTT BURNS alter re: [mopo] hey, sport...

2010-08-06 Thread James Richard
Scott Burns needs to boot this guy off the MOPO list unless
'j...@cinepost' gets his auto-responder act together, like, right *now*.
It's obvious this joe doesn't have a clue to running his email program
or proper etiquette when joining a listserve like MOPO. It is *joe's*
reponsiblity to put the MOPO server address on his "approved" list, not
ours. This is a guy who apparently has never belonged to a mail
listserve group before (or learned to use his anti-spam program).

Beyond this list, this type of auto-responder is considered rude,
old-hat, and technically non-sophisticated. It's been a long time since
I received one of these, most people realized it prevents far more valid
communication than it does stop spam. Joe needs to stop his system from
doing this by learning how to use the anti-spam program his email
account is working with (or just disable spam filtering altogether if he
does not want to bother to learn how to properly use it).

Or else this 'j...@cinepost' only joined this list to harvest valid email
addresses for spam purpose, which is essentially what happens if you use
his 'confirmation' link below, you are telling him that the address you
use to receive MOPO messages is a valid email address.

No one should use his 'confirmation' link for this reason -- and 'joe'
either needs to knock this off or get the heck outa here.

Sheesh.

Hi, J.R.

I don't know about other collectors, but I definitely like British
quads. It just seems that they appear a lot more than US 30x40's. Hey, I
probably have 50 30x40's and almost as many 40x60's in a closet
somewhere...only
a few really good titles, though. I've had them since the early 90's. I
kind of think they appeared more frequently back then...maybe it was just
because I had a source to get them..

What, they don't like 30"x40" British Quads?

I know, I know Quads ain't vertical I can understand the "big impact"
that a 40x60 brings to the wall space (yet still more manageable than a
3-sheet) generating collector enthusiasm, but I'm perplexed people would get
all hot over vertical 30x40 posters... I mean, they are only 3 inches wider
than a vintage one-sheet, but a full 1-inch *shorter*. A one-sheet has
1080 square inches and a 30x40 only has 120 square inches more at 1200 total
-- and most of that goes into the wider borders that 30x40s tended to have.

Some had different imagery, yes, but "better" imagery than the one sheet?
Not most that I've seen.

out, that these posters were also printed in very limited amounts and often
have different images from the each other. Also, very few have survived

With all this discussion about 40x60's, it seems as if any attention
regarding 30x40's has fallen by the wayside. Over the years, I've had too many
customers to count who, after purchasing their first 30x40 became so
enamored with the fact that they were rolled and, unlike 1-sheets from the
late
70's back, had no fold marks---that they would ask me to please let them know
as soon as I got in more 30x40's. (Also, their size is much closer to the
size of a one sheet that a 40x60's size). I doubt that there were more
30x40's printed than 40x60's. It's a bit strange, though, how there is
hardly any mention of 30x40's at all. Were the unique designs of 50's Sci-Fi
or
other genres limited primarily to 40x60's? I know of one collector who
has been looking for a 30x40 on Chinatown for the past 10 years...and he'll
continue to search until he finds one.
A one sheet just won't do. He's among a small group of fanatical 30x40
collectors I've met over the years.
In each of there cases, all it took was buying their first 30x40's on one
of their favorite titles and they were hooked. A 40x60 wouldn't do,
either. It had to be a 30x40.

poster for 3 or 4 times what it goes for on eBay. In fact they make such
sales fairly regularly. Rod obviously had a customer with a request for
lots of items with a *very* specific theme: boxing. The fact that Rod
spent many years gathering up all those "cheap" boxing-related items so
he happened to have them on hand and ready to deliver when the request
came along deserves compensation beyond what any individual cards in the
bunch might or might have gone for on eBay. After all, Rod was not
wholesaling these items to another dealer -- he was selling them to
someone/some organization who wanted a whole bunch of boxing items and
wanted them now. They didn't want to spend years accumulating them a few
at a time.

So Rod had the inventory to fill the bill and the customer thought his
average price of $20 per item was right for them.

What's the beef?

price range for the cards? These sets must all score in a
fairy similar pricing field.

Re: [MOPO] The Worlds RAREST Movie Posters Book Is Fantastic!!!

2010-08-06 Thread James Richard

Rick,

What, they don't like 30"x40" British Quads?

I know, I know Quads ain't vertical I can understand the "big
impact" that a 40x60 brings to the wall space (yet still more manageable
than a 3-sheet) generating collector enthusiasm, but I'm perplexed
people would get all hot over vertical 30x40 posters... I mean, they are
only 3 inches wider than a vintage one-sheet, but a full 1-inch
*shorter*. A one-sheet has 1080 square inches and a 30x40 only has 120
square inches more at 1200 total -- and most of that goes into the wider
borders that 30x40s tended to have.

Some had different imagery, yes, but "better" imagery than the one
sheet? Not most that I've seen.

Todd Spoor wrote:

Rick,

Funny you should mention that, the book actually compares the images
of the 27x41, 40x60's AND 30x40's. I wanted to show exactly what you
pointed out, that these posters were also printed in very limited
amounts and often have different images from the each other. Also,
very few have survived because they too were sometimes used outside
like the 40x60's.

With all this discussion about 40x60's, it seems as if any

attention regarding 30x40's has fallen by the wayside. Over the
years, I've had too many customers to count who, after purchasing
their first 30x40 became so enamored with the fact that they were
rolled and, unlike 1-sheets from the late 70's back, had no fold
marks---that they would ask me to please let them know as soon as
I got in more 30x40's. (Also, their size is much closer to the
size of a one sheet that a 40x60's size). I doubt that there were
more 30x40's printed than 40x60's. It's a bit strange, though,
how there is hardly any mention of 30x40's at all. Were the
unique designs of 50's Sci-Fi or other genres limited primarily to
40x60's? I know of one collector who has been looking for a 30x40
on Chinatown for the past 10 years...and he'll continue to search
until he finds one.
A one sheet just won't do. He's among a small group of fanatical
30x40 collectors I've met over the years.
In each of there cases, all it took was buying their first 30x40's
on one of their favorite titles and they were hooked. A 40x60
wouldn't do, either. It had to be a 30x40.

The Lobbys are original, and come from a Regional Film
Archive in Mexico City.

They were designed in Hollywood and printed in Mexico.

Each Poster contains the same design elements found on
Posters from the US.

They contain both stills from the Film and also design
elements from the One Sheet Poster.

The typography, photos, artwork, stars names, credits,
drawings, scenes, emotional impact,

appeal, and intrinsic value are
virtually the same as Posters from Hollywood or any other

international Metropolis where the film had been shown.

However, the layout will be much flashier, more graphically
intensive, or even more lurid.

The size is appx. 13" x 17"---over 40% larger than
a standard Lobby Card.

As such, each Poster is a cross between a Jumbo Lobby Card,
Title Card, and a One Sheet Poster.

The Posters were printed on either heavy Cardboard Stock,
thick fine Linen Paper, or

sturdy Poster Stock.

Overall very good condition, altho there will be occasional
tears, pinholes, stains, etc.

There are eight different variations for each
poster---containing different scenes/stills from the film.

Some dupes.

No, I'm talking about "Requesting Money" from another person, not
"Withdrawing Funds"

I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but this morning I tried
to use the "Request Money" feature through PayPal and it took me to some
weird page where I've never been before. What used to be a simple procedure
now appears to be a totally confusing pain in the ass. Hopefully, they
PayPal has its wires crossed this morning and everything will go back to
normal soon. If anyone has a reason to request money from someone through
PayPal. give it a try and see if the same thing happens to you...
