Re: Listener

2003-03-07 Thread Luc-Michel Demey
Stopping a QM often don't stop the listener.

So when restart the whole QM (and listener, ...) the strmqlsr fail
as the preceding listener is still alive.

In some architecture (OS/400), nobody cares, the old one is same as
the new listener.
In Aix boxes, the old listener was unable to talk with the
restarted QM.

I suspect in windows there is no side effect, but ... how know ?
So stopping & restarting the listener should be a safe mesure

Hi, We've just installed it recently and you need to ensure
you get the latest media.  There was a big problem with the
distribution of this release and the numbering used.  For example 5.3
went out in June 02 and Oct 02, both releases being different although both
being called 5.3.  Make sure you get the latest media and then the
latest CSD (there may be one on the web site). In addition to this we found a bug where MQSeries objects
kept becoming damaged.  IBM provided us with an e-fix, this fix is not
included in the latest CSD and must be applied.  APAR IC35711 is the reference
IBM are using for this. Other than
the above we've had no problems. Cheers, Kulbir.

bounced and then the event viewer recorded the following message:

The TCP/IP listener program could not bind to port number 1422. The failure
could be due to another program using the same port number.

The return code is 20 from this command issued by MQseries services:

I looked at the listener service and it is running. Any ideas?

could search generically, e.g. hiper fixes, or if you're interested in a

Hi,
I have the following configuration:

Win 2K MQ Client            Win2K  MQ Server            2 AIX MQ Servers
(Cluster Full Repositories)
                                            QMGR1
QMGR2 & QMGR3
The qmgrs belongs to a cluster.
I have a server connecton channel between the Win 2K boxes (the MCAUSER in
the svrconn channel is blank).  In the client box I have an application
running with a userid "mquser".  I have one queue (Q1) defined in QMGR1
(shared in a cluster), I set the permissions to allow mquser to get
messages from that queue, I also granted mquser to connect to the QMGR1.
This configuration worked fine and my application is able to get messages
from Q1.

There are two more queues:  Q2 that is defined twice (once for each qmgr
QMGR2 and QMGR3) and they shared in a cluster.  I want to know wich
permissions do i have to set to allow the client application to put
messages in each instance of Q2.

The user "mquser" is defined in the 3 server boxes (Win and AIX), the I
tried with the following commands:

AIX BOX 1:
setmqaut -m QMGR2 -t qmgr -p mquser +allmqi
setmqaut -m QMGR2 -t q -n Q2 -p mquser +allmqi

AIX BOX 2:
setmqaut -m QMGR3 -t qmgr -p mquser +allmqi
setmqaut -m QMGR3 -t q -n Q2 -p mquser +allmq

WIN 2K MQ Server:
setmqaut -m QMGR1 -t qmgr -p mquser +connect

However, Im still not able to put messages from the client application to
Q2.

Thank you for any help,

Yonny.

Re: AMI elimination (was MQ and DB2 stored procedures)

2003-03-07 Thread mqm mqm
Interesting statistic - 2 out of 300+ using the AMI.
But I bet if they'd asked how many had spent a whole
bunch of time and effort developing and supporting
their own MQI wrapper the number would have been
significantly higher. Discuss.

Re: IBMLINK 2000

2003-03-07 Thread Bruce Giordano
Don't count on it. This is the message I get when I access one of the
servicelink applications under ibmlink classic:

All of the IBMLink ServiceLink applications (SRD, ETR, SIS, ASAP, AST, PCR,
and PSP), which provide electronic application capability for these
Services Offerings, are now available on IBMLink 2000 at
http://www.ibm.com/ibmlink/link2 .

IBMLink 2000 provides the strategic Internet access to ServiceLink. United
States access to the existing Internet ServiceLink applications on
http://www. ibmlink.ibm.com/ will be discontinued on April 16, 2003.

Not really specifically an MQSeries issue but I am curious on others
opinions of the new IBMLINK 2000. I've been using it for several weeks now
since I got the notice that the old IBMLINK was going away on April 16th.
In my opinion it looks to be a step backwards rather than forwards. My
initial problem with it was the small font sizes used. I opened a feedback
on this and was told I could change the text size in Internet Explorer.
That works except that it makes the text huge for all my other
applications. I also find it difficult to navigate between applications
since they're not always listed on the left-hand side. In addition, I'm
often running into "Page expired" errors when I try to back up. Do others
have these problems or is it just me?

Hi,
I have the following configuration:

Yonny.

2003-03-07 Thread Potkay, Peter M (PLC, IT)
Technically, they didn't say AMI was definitely gone. Just that it is no
longer included in the base MQ product for OS/390. Now OS/390 MQ users (like
distributed users have been for a while) will have to download it separately
as a support Pac.

I guess you could infer it is on its way out if IBM did that, especially
when they asked for a show of hands of how many people were using it in a
room of about 300-400, and 2 people (that I saw) raised their hand.

Re: MQSeries 5.2.1 CSD06 for W2K - Is it ready for Production ?

2003-03-07 Thread Matt Gurney

Thanks Tim.

I tend to agree with you but our "Rebuild project" was billed as a replacement of hardware and an opportunity to clean up the environments.  Management suggests that substantial software upgrades are supposed to be avoided.  That's why we can easily get away with a CSD upgrade but perhaps not a base version upgrade.

Do you folks have a plan for 5.3 ?
In addition, if it (5.2.1 w/CSD 6 or CSD 5) passes your validation

What is your company policy for product upgrading ? You already know

Perhaps, 5.2.1 w/CSD06 will hold you longer at 5.2 level.
The bottom line is you don't want to this upgrade too often to hold

Does this make any sense ?

            MQSeries 5.2.1 CSD06 for W2K

            Hello,

We are currently going through a process to rebuild all our
MQSeries Hub servers.   Prod, Test and Development.  We are
            currently running MQ5.2 CSD03 on W2K.

As part of the rebuild we will be going to a later CSD, the
            question is:

Should we go to 5.2.1 CSD06, which has only been available for
            2 weeks
            OR
Should we go to 5.2.1 CSD05, which has been available for a
            much longer period

I rang IBM support to ask their opinion, and they very nicely
went through the case for both sides, but didn't really favour
either.  The guy I spoke with told me he had not heard of any
problems with CSD06, but being only 2 weeks old, that doesn't
            mean much.

So, has anyone else deployed 5.2.1 CSD06 into production, if so
do you have any feedback that you would like to share?

I would also like to hear any general comments on going to the
latest service level, is it a good thing?

            Thanks in advance,

            ---

We needed to upgrade from V5.2.1 CSD04 to CSD06 fairly recently and have had no issues with it in dev/prod, in fact it corrected several outstanding issues we had been
experiencing - suggest you go with latest CSD, bearing in mind that the release will be out of support by the end of the year anyway.

Matt,

Do you folks have a plan for 5.3 ?
In addition, if it (5.2.1 w/CSD 6 or CSD 5) passes your validation test for each of the environment, then what difference does it make ?
What is your company policy for product upgrading ? You already know 5.3 is there, now it just a matter of time that you need to move there.
Perhaps, 5.2.1 w/CSD06 will hold you longer at 5.2 level.
The bottom line is you don't want to this upgrade too often to hold down the cost.

Does this make any sense ?

MQSeries 5.2.1 CSD06 for W2K

Hello,

We are currently going through a process to rebuild all our MQSeries Hub servers.   Prod, Test and Development.  We are currently running MQ5.2 CSD03 on W2K.

As part of the rebuild we will be going to a later CSD, the question is:

Should we go to 5.2.1 CSD06, which has only been available for 2 weeks
OR
Should we go to 5.2.1 CSD05, which has been available for a much longer period

I rang IBM support to ask their opinion, and they very nicely went through the case for both sides, but didn't really favour either.  The guy I spoke with told me he had not heard of any problems with CSD06, but being only 2 weeks old, that doesn't mean much.

So, has anyone else deployed 5.2.1 CSD06 into production, if so do you have any feedback that you would like to share?

I would also like to hear any general comments on going to the latest service level, is it a good thing?

Thanks in advance,

---
Matt Gurney

Jim,

I was not able to attend the last Tech Conference. What was the reason
given for elimination of the
AMI? Did they hint to adding any of the function, like Send/Receive
file, to current MQI?
Jim Ford wrote:

Doesn't the SQL solution require AMI? At the recent conference IBM

These are from my notes I took during one of he sessions at the conferance
last month.

5.3.1 for OS/390 will be released this month (March).
There is no 5.3.1 for distributed.

Latest version is 5.3.0.2, no difference in code from 5.3.0.1.

There is no CSD02.

CSD03 will be the next patch level, applicable to any 5.3.0.* install.

Hi,

We've just installed it recently and you need to ensure you get the latest
media.  There was a big problem with the distribution of this release and
the numbering used.  For example 5.3 went out in June 02 and Oct 02, both
releases being different although both being called 5.3.  Make sure you get
the latest media and then the latest CSD (there may be one on the web
site).

In addition to this we found a bug where MQSeries objects kept becoming
damaged.  IBM provided us with an e-fix, this fix is not included in the
latest CSD and must be applied.  APAR IC35711 is the reference IBM are
using for this.

Other than the above we've had no problems.

Cheers,

Kulbir.

I'm probably going to install V5.3 on Windows soon and am interested to
hear the experiences of others who have already implemented it in
production.  Any bloody, gory tales?
