Eh, I didn't know the storyline of Dragon Slayer 6 (I still don't know by
the way), but the graphics and music did somehow not feel right. I don't
know. I got the feeling something was terribly wrong. The music was nice,
but not really that good as the MSX music. I have the same with Aleste. When
you play Super Aleste on the SNES I get almost impotent while the MSX
versions give me a HUGE erection (as a matter of speaking). Maybe it's
nostalgia, I don't know.

Maybe that's what they call nostalgia? I agree with you that certain
games will be better on an MSX than on other systems. I still get the
creeps when I play Metal Gear 2 when guards see mee (I did when Metal
Gear (3) Solid was announced, in fact it is the reason I bought a PSX
(that and Konami MSX Antiques vol 1, 2 and 3 )). I think it has
something to do with playing a game for the first time. If you play it
for the second time (and on an other system), you know the storyline
already and you pay attention to other things. Just like a remake of an
old movie or something.

I played Castlevania on the PSX (my first PSX game, because of the audio
CD) and that had that "feeling" again. And later, Metal Gear Solid. It
is the true sequal to MG2-Solid Snake.

This proves the fact that Konami games made by others are bad. Some Contra
games were also made by other manufacturers and there was also something
with Green beret (although I'm not sure of that, something with England)

Falcom is still working. Talking about nostalgia,
they're relaunching Ys I and II in enhanced versions
for Winblows. Prettier graphics and all those musics
we love in General MIDI version. I haven't see them
"live", though.

Some versions of Falcom games were not made by them,
maybe this is the cause the non-MSX ones often suck,
but I was told at least the PC Engine versions are OK.

Metal gear solid is also good. The story is a lot different, but the

Indeed, the graphics were very ugly, although it scrolled horizontal...
I think the best Contra is Contra 4 HardCorps for the SEGA Genesis...
I know Contra on the SNES but I don't like it that much. Maybe because the

You're right about Dragon Slayer 2 and 7. I think he got the series
somewhat confused.
Lord Monarch was the last in the series, there are no Dragon Slayer 8 or 9.
There are however 3 other Dragon Slayers, called Legend of Heroes 2, 3 and
4. These are sequels to Dragon Slayer 6, kind of a sidestory. Legend of
Heroes 2 starts out very similar to the 1st, but Selios is king now! I've
never played parts 3 and 4 which were released for Playstation... LoH2 is
for SNES, Megadrive and probably PC-Engine as well.
As for Xanadu... There's a recent game called 'Legend of Xanadu' but I'm
not sure it has anything to do with the Dragon Slayer series, I only know
it exists...

There are 2 Dragon Slayer games for Gameboy too... One, simply called
Dragon Slayer, is a REALLY BAD game. It's kinda like Hydlide 1 but bad. The
other is called Dragon Slayer Gaiden -The crown of the king- (or something
like that), which looks like an okay RPG.

Very difficult? Are you sure? (O.O!)

If you have played Nemesis saga on MSX, you must find GG very easy!! I have
no PSX, but I played with a friend. Even using the standard PSX wordpad
(what a shit! I need a telemach!!) we had no problems for reaching the last
stage. And even in "hardest" mode, we advanced a lot. It is the only bad
side of the game, I think: too easy, and stages are too short. I'm sure
that with a telemach style joystick, I can finish it without problems in
the hardest mode. (BTW, I can finish Nemesis 2 without losing any ship!) ;-)

Lord Monarch is a DS???
Anyway a new lord monarch game has been released on psx some weeks ago.

Wrong..kaze no densetsu Xanadu 1&2 on Turbo Duo/PC engine Super CD Rom
are Dragon Slayer 8&9...xanadu 1 is subtitled "dragon slayer 8" ( don't
make a mistake between it and xanadu on msx :)

There are however 3 other Dragon Slayers, called Legend of Heroes 2, 3
and 4. These are sequels to Dragon Slayer 6, kind of a sidestory. Legend
of Heroes 2 starts out very similar to the 1st, but Selios is king now!
I've never played parts 3 and 4 which were released for Playstation...

Yeah,Eiyuu Densetsu 3&4...released on PSX,Japanese PC..:)

On Japanese PC has been released too Shin Eiyuu Densetsu 1 ( New Legend
of Heroes 1 ),which is a remake of Dragon Slayer 6/Legend of Heroes 1 (
better graphics and all )...like they did Sorcerian Forever too :)

LoH2 is for SNES, Megadrive and probably PC-Engine as well.

Right, like the LoH1 is too on these ones :)
And MSX,Japanese PC,X68000...

As for Xanadu... There's a recent game called 'Legend of Xanadu' but I'm
not sure it has anything to do with the Dragon Slayer series, I only
know it exists...

As as i told you,it is the TRUE dragon slayer 8...
Eiyuu Densetsu 3&4 are NOt DS 8&9,they are the sequel of the new
saga:legend of heroes :)

There are 2 Dragon Slayer games for Gameboy too... One, simply called

The other is called Dragon Slayer Gaiden -The crown of the king- (or

Just for your information, compilation of DS6&7/LoH 1&2 is too on PSX AND
Saturn..

You have to shoot the ball at his chin. Stay under the bullets and dodge the
shots he fires when he comes behind the playing area. He's tough, but not
invincible. But when you are there, you have almost finished the game.

Oh yeah, when you have finished the game, you can play again, but then the
game is VERY difficult. In the Moai stage for example, the final boss

AW: Nostalgia...

1999-02-10 Thread Coen van der Geest

Hi there,

I don't want to make this a PSX mailinglist, discussing PSX games and
all that :-) but since we are talking about the best softwarehouse on
MSX, I think we ought to talk about their latest effords too.

>Don't kill me but... I don't like Metal Gear Solid. I see no difference
>with the thousands of 3D games already existing.

You're crazy!!! :-) No, It's not that it's a 3D game. Hello, it's Metal
Gear, the best game on MSX. It's in 3D. It's stealth and high
intelligent guards. It's different to those 3D games as Tomb Raider,
it's beautifull, it has got atmosphere and a story to die for. It's the
sequal to the best MSX game ever. Oh man, the sniper gun... It's like
really controlling a sniper gun (if you have a rumble pad)...

All that and it has music from Metal Gear 1 in it.

Talking about the music: I was first a bit dissapointed in the music of
MGS. But later on, I discovered it's great film music instead of game
music. I expected MG2 like music, but what we have is music which sets
atmosphere. And that's what MGS is about: an interactive film. (good
example: when you're in the last building, at the steel factory, you
have very "warm" music).

But it has many connections with MG2: the Helicopter fight, a key which
changes when in different temperatures. But that's because it's a
sequal.

There are even words about Solid Snake being the male Lara Croft, a
computerised sex symbol for female gamers!!!

>But... have you seen Gradius Gaiden? It is a TRUE reason for buying a PSX!

I know, this one is a beauty. And very difficult!! Aargh. I can't
finish it in the easiest mode (*hide*) (I finished Nemesis 3 on MSX).

BTW: Konami's Gradius IV has been released in the arcade halls by now.

Recently in Brazil we MSXers had some quarrelling with one or two game
magazines, when they prepared articles about Metal Gear Solid. They were
saying that Snake's Revenge (something similar to Metal Gear 1 - it isn't
Metal Gear, it can't be!) was the predecessor to Metal Gear Solid. However,
we've some friends who are Brazilian like us and lives in Japan, and they
read in MGS's manual something like that:
Chronology:
Metal Gear 1 - MSX 2 - 1987
Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake - MSX 2 - 1989
Metal Gear Solid - PSX - 1998

And... Snake's Revenge, from NES, ISN'T a game from MG chronology, it was
an attempt from Ultra Games to do something similar to Metal Gear to the NES.

Finally, the people from the magazines were sorry 4 the mistake (they
don't read manuals!), but they hadn't done any correction. So, all
brain-washed readers thought that Metal Gear Solid were a sequence to that
s**t called Snake's Revenge.

Dammit!

Only MSX have that playability...
