RE: [mythtv-users] New Australian XMLTV grabber

2004-12-29 Thread Daniel Sheppard
Has anybody thought of doing a grabber for http://www.ourguide.com.au

They put the entire data for a day on a single page complete with
descriptions.

For some reason their default page doesn't include the period from
12am-6am, but if you go through the "Display Particulars" link you can
get the entire day.

[mythtv-users] mythphone questions

2004-12-29 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I found an old webcam (D-Link DSB-C100 CPiA chipset), but I this message
when I fire-up mythphone

Webcam does not support YUV420P, YUV422P, or RGB24 modes; these are the
ony ones currently supported. Closing webcam.

The camera works in xawtv. Anyway to work around this? I am using
mythphone from atrpms stable.

Also, I don't think this is mythphone related, but I can't get my mic
working. On my main soundcard (SB Audigy) I can hear the mic through the
speakers, but in the setup it says I can't use the same sound device for
the mic. I plugged it into my onboard mic port, but I don't get any
sound. Both /dev/dsp0 & 1 are chmoded 666. Anybody have any ideas?

[mythtv-users] FC3 + Mythtv + PVR350 for the 8th time

2004-12-29 Thread Aaron Paluzzi
I've followed the instructions a number of times and
have finally
whittled my problems down to the following.

-I can't get X to display on the PVR350's tv-out. I'm
trying to use
S-video if it makes a difference.
-I still can't get Lirc to recognise ir commands from
the grey remote
via the hauppage ir receiver.

I know that the PVR's output is not accelerated and
not optimal to use
for games or divx. Unfortunately my main display card
is a Radeon AIW
(origional, AKA the 7200) and unless someone here
knows how, I have a
snowballs chance to get this card working.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

[mythtv-users] Accumulation of knowledge for others with the PVR350 and FC3

2004-12-29 Thread Aaron Paluzzi
I've gone through the FC3 install of mythtv 8 times
now and am closer
than ever. I've delt with and solved many of the
problems that seem
unsolved by accident and just brute determination.

1) MySQL install

As many of you have noticed, the default MySQL
install usually
faults right after you install with a 'dead but...
yadda yadda yadda'.
I've yet to get the default install to work. My
solution was to install
FC3 without Mysql, then modify my yum.conf file to add
the stable,
testing, and bleeding sources to atrpms.net, and
rpm.livina.org. When
you 'yum install mysql' you'll be offered MySQL 4. Go
ahead and install
this.

Intermediate step I've yet to try, remove the bleeding
sources after
this. My yum broke in later steps because of these.

2) IVTV
Like many of you I just bought all of my equipment
with the intention of
making my mythtv box a family x-mas gift. As such I
have the new pvr350
with the new tuner. To get this working I needed to
install
ivtv-0.3.0. Otherwise when I tried 'modprobe ivtv'
I'd get the
infamous 'Cannot allocate memory' error.

These were the two main problems I had. Took me 5
installs, then a
quick move to Mandrake and dealing with that install
process (easier my
foot!) to find my problem.

FYI, I'm still not working. I'm most of the way
there. I can get both
the backend and frontend up and running and the tuner
seems to work. I
still cannot get the TV out via the PVR350 to work, or
can I get the IR
receiver or lird to work. Also durring this process
as I said before, I
broke yum. Apt-get chokes most of the time because of
some messed up
installation of db4.

All in all I recomend using a more proved release to
get this done.
Either FC1 or 2, forget 3 for now if you're a newbie
like me and want
instant gratification. It's nothing to do with
mythtv, some reason yum
and apt both break easily in fc3 making installing
software that more
difficult.

[mythtv-users] Create DVD script

2004-12-29 Thread Craig H Fry
I've tried a few scripts I've found. One looked promising that even
integrated into MythWeb. Problem is it was written for a distro other
then FC3. After some editing I was able to get it running about 80% but
it gets some weird errors on the creation process (like file not found
but the file is there).

Anyway the question is does anyone have a working script that will let
me select the programs I want to archive and create a DVD iso with menus
that I can then burn?

My Good Eats collection is out of control!
Thanks.

OK, so I am an idiot. That was definitely an "Aha!!"

I'm pretty sure they'd be more upset about us 'stealing' their data

The mysql.txt file is created automatically when setup is run. If it's not,
you're not running current CVS. It's all through the docs, though not all
copies have been updated yet.

2004-12-29 Thread Drew Bernat
I haven't enabled the hardware output, for two reasons. First, I have a
stack of mpeg4 files left from when I used software encoding. Second,
it freezes if I do so :) (well, black screen... don't know if the
machine freezes).

Theoretically, you can use the frame buffer just for the TV output
conversion... that's what I'd like to do.

To put this to rest, I did not mean that constructive criticism or
advice is not welcomed. All I'm saying is instead of complaining of
things that don't work, you should do some research first. As you know,
tracking down and fixing problems require time. I am not a developer
here, but I know all of the heroes here have real jobs that pay real
bills. Updating HOWTO guides for every scenerio is probably low on
their priority list.

If something does not work right, you can browse the forums and mailing
lists, discuss the issues with the developers, heck you can even provide
some suggestions on how to make it work. But saying to remove something
because it doesn't work for you is a little extreme.

When I said "put up or shut up" I was referring to what you just
figured out. HELP solve the problem. Just complaining and suggesting
to remove an important resource for many does not help solve the
problem. It would make matters worse.

If Jarod didn't have thick skin, and a super hero cape, he could've
listened to you and where would we all be? I would be in deep poo-poo.

I am a happy mythtv user for 10 months. I've been getting an itch to
try FC3. But with the wife happily watching all the Smallville, CSI-*,
and Law and Order episodes until her heart's content, I DARE NOT try FC3
until later. This is a perfect example of "If it ain't broken, don't
fix it."

I believe the problem is a bit of a chicken and egg problem. The
application (mythbackend wants /dev/video[0-9], lircd wants
/dev/lirc[0-9]). Previously when an application would access those
devices, the kernel would see (for example) /dev/lirc0 is mapped to major
61 minor 0, look in /etc/modprobe.conf for char-major-61 and load the
appropriate module. But with udev the kernel doesn't know that those
applications are probing for those devices as those devices do not exist
until the module is loaded.

If you could get those devices to show up all the time, or manually load
the modules before any applications start, that would solve the clean
reboot problem.

Heh, now that I've thought about it, you can fix this by creating the
appropriate devices in /etc/udev/devices:

# cd /etc/udev.d/devices/
# mknod lirc0 c 61 0
# mknod video0 c 81 0

You may have to create additional devices if you have more than one ivtv
device or a PVR-350 depending on the order mythbackend probes things.

[mythtv-users] Fwd: PVR-350 performance question

2004-12-29 Thread Drew Bernat
I just switched from a GF2MX to a PVR-350 for TV out. The quality is
much higher, but I'm having trouble with choppiness in the playback.
It's pretty good, but has a noticeable chop.

I'm running a 1600MHz Athlon, 256MB of memory, playing MPEG4 files.
IVTV 0.3.2a, X with framebuffer module. Top shows ~40% CPU usage
playing the files, and ~46% idle. Is there any way to speed up the use
of the frame buffer?

Re: [mythtv-users] Re: Pvr-350 - Do the menus work on tvout

2004-12-29 Thread John Van Ostrand
I'm using the 0.3.2a driver from http://ivtv.no-ip.com.

I had to comment out the lines mentioned in
http://poptix.net/ivtv/Dec-2004/msg00082.html

I'm using the firmware downloaded from the hauppauge web site (the inf
file for Windows contains this, use ivtv's ivtvfwextract.pl on the
file). A strings shows that the version of ivtv-fw-dec.bin is 2.02.023
and ivtv-fw-enc.bin is 2.05.032.

I also saw a hang when starting X. My system didn't hang but X did and
could not be killed.

The workaround I found is not pretty but I put this in the rc.local file
so it would run at startup:

modprobe ivtv-fb

# Change screen from green
ivtvctl -j reg=0x6c,val=0xfa -d /dev/video16
# Set video to NTSC
/usr/bin/ivtvctl -u 0x3000
# Set input to the tuner
/usr/bin/ivtvctl -p 4
# Set screen resolution
/usr/bin/ivtvctl -f width=720,height=480
sleep 3
/usr/bin/ivtvfbctl /dev/fb1 -alpha -on -globalalpha -nolocalalpha
dd if=/dev/video0 of=/dev/video16 bs=64k count=100
sleep 3

/usr/bin/ivtvfbctl /dev/fb1 -globalalpha -nolocalalpha
# Reload firmware, this solves the double screen problem
/usr/bin/ivtvctl --reload
sleep 3

I agree that as a community we should be doing whatever we can to
avoid disrupting Nine/Yahoo/etc's service. Hard to police that,
though. The only way I can see of doing that is to scrape once and
store it somewhere else for Aussie mythtv users to access. That would
need someone to volunteer some web space and bandwidth.

Thte ABC xml looks like it's only 1 day which isn't really enough -
you need to be able to see the schedule more than 1 day in advance.

The best solution in the long term is the OzTivo collaboration which
people are already working on, I believe.

Which video folders? Only the backend needs read/write for the recordings and

So, it looks like only yum was uninstalled:

# apt-get remove yum

Building Dependency Tree... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  yum
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 removed and 164 not

however, during the update:
# apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade
it removes:

The following packages will be REMOVED:
  atrpms-kickstart

So here is where I am:
Yum uninstalled, since it errors out earlier.
apt-get no longer works.

Should I just use fedora's update tool? Or try to
keep folllowing the guide? Or should I wait a little
while to see if the rpms get updated so they don't
have this dependancy problem?

Or, did I miss something in the FC3 install?

[mythtv-users] Getting a new motherboard...

2004-12-29 Thread Carlos Fernandez Sanz
Hi,
After spending a few days trying to make my Asus P4P800S (Intel 848P
chipset) work with my PVR-350 I give up. The tuner just won't work. I'm
sure someone more skilled than I would be able to make it happen but ...

Anyway, I installed a XP in that box just to make sure the hardware
wasn't the problem. I wouldn't work either until I installed the
motherboard chipset drivers - everything started to work. Since I don't
know how to do the same thing in Linux, I have decided to replace the
mobo with one that is more tested.

So the question is simple: If you were to buy a motherboard for mythtv
(only use) to use with these cards:

PVR-350
DVB-S (Nesus)
I've searched the database but most people is using Shuttle's which are
no good for me since I need plenty of PCI lots (plus I already have a
nice HTPC case).

Athlon or P4 is no problem.
I'm sorry my frustration is evident in this email.
Thanks.

[mythtv-users] Running WinFast Leadtek PVR2000

2004-12-29 Thread Tomas Roos
Hello all. Just wanted to share a success story

I got the WinFast LeadTek PVR2000 to work with the latest CVS release
of MythTV. There is a bug causing mythbackend to crash in 0.16 for the
cx88xx chipsets.

Running Mandrake Official 10.1 Download edition with no special
drivers installed. It recognises the cards I have.

I had to set the HUE to zero or else the colors would be inverted more
or less. Now the picture is very good.

Does anyone know when the cx88xx chipsets and the mpeg2 encoding will
begin to work in MythTV and if the support is planned in any way? I
would be very interested in hardware mpeg2 encoding for this card.
Running MPEG4 right now on an AMD Athlon XP1600+ with 70-80% CPU use.

[mythtv-users] atiixp alsa problems - playback skipping - spent two weeks on this - NEED YOUR HELP

2004-12-29 Thread dave_mythtv
Help please - have spent a couple of weeks on this - and the wife wants me to
get sky+ instead!..

I am trying to setup a mythtv installation in the lounge using a Shuttle
ST61G4 machine. (ATI RS300 + IXP150 chipset - Intel P4 3Gz)

Apart from trying and failing to get the fglrx driver working for the
graphics card and using the vesa for now - it's the sound problem that is
 the show stopper.

mplayer playback skips around - giving xrun errors at the point of the
skipping (see below). Using oss emulation gives bigger skips but no
messages.

Note also - the startup messages in the syslogs.

I have run out of things to try and would really welcome some guidance - even
if you don't know how to solve - if you have a suggestion of something to try
- please let me know.

I have tried the following:-

1. Proved hardware is ok - working in Windoze XP
2. Recompiled kernal and installed alsa 1.0.6/7 and the latest 1.08 - all
the
same
3. run mplayer with -nosound - and no skipping
4. tried other players - like xine - same problems
5. recompiled kernel for oss - but could not get support for the ixp
hardware
6. turned off apm in kernel - same
7. played arround with many settings in bios for interupts etc - same
8. tried switching off hyperthreading and apci in bios - same
9. made deal with wife - if not running by next xmas - we'll get sky+ - !!
10. tried files local and nfs mounted - same
11. installed a different video card and switched off on board - same (but
got drivers working ok on this card)
12. removed the pvr350 card - same

am considering trying a different package of linux (red hat?) is this worth
it?
am considering ebay-ing the machine and getting an nvidea based one!

am curious that other people are not appearing to have these problems - what
am I doing wrong?

Looking forward to anyones suggestions
Thanks
D

[mythtv-users] watching TV on wireless frontend flickers badly

2004-12-29 Thread wizzleteet
Hi all,
OK, I know it is a strech, but bandwith-wise this ought to work:
An old old toshiba satellite 300CDT (P166 MMX) laptop
kernel 2.6
debian unstable
54mBs WiFi
mythfrontend
watching Tv or watching recorded programs gives me lots of green
flickers inbetween frames.
It looks like the bandwith needed is too much for this old beast, but
this machine is able to play movies of certain dimensions from a NFS
mount of the same server. I tweaked the live TV dimensions to be ca
240x240, but this seems to make no distinguishable difference, which
leads me to believe I need to look elsewhere.
Anywho, any pointers on how I might be able to improve my myth
experience on this old beast ?
kind regards,
wzzl

Check the exact headers. Perhaps there is a multiplier SMTP server among
the persons subscribed to the mailinglist. (Seen something like that
before on other lists.)

Even simpler. Create a known file on the ntfs side and check for it.
An unmounted file system should be an empty directory. If the file is
there you much have successfully mounted the fs.

if [ -f /mnt/ntfs/ntfs.mounted ] ; then
do you stuff here
else
echo "Error: NTFS File System not mounted. Aborting." >2

Not sure about the above script as I did it from memory.

All, I'm new to mythtv (and brand new to this mailing list), but just
went through an install with FC3 and Jarod's guide. I only ran into a
handful of problems:
1. My video folders were not set up with correct permissions (root
versus mythtv)
2. My hauppauge remote needed a different /etc/.lirc file than the
one that Jarod described (even though I had a new hauppauge pvr-250)
3. The instructions seem to be missing a mknod for /etc/video and
/etc/lirc (but that may have been user error following the
instructions)
4. Finally, the instructions for making everything work following
a reboot (auto restart) didn't work for me and I ended up putting
everything in rc.local (modprobes, ln for /etc/video, lircd, mtd, and
mythbackend).

I found Jarod's guide to be invaluable in setting everything up
(especially for a linux / mythtv newbie like me), so I don't
understand the comments that people are unable to use Jarod's guide.

I'd be happy to post the specifics of my changes from Jarod's guide
(I'm trying to document everything so I can recreate my configuration
since I'm just test-piloting this now).

RE: [mythtv-users] Re: Pvr-350 - Do the menus work on tvout

2004-12-29 Thread John Harvey
I don't have anything in modules.conf.

When playing tv back myth writes to the ivtv frame buffer directly to draw
the menus and OSD (except for the programme guide which is drawn by X).
You should be able to manually load the frame buffer support with

modprobe ivtv-fb

Then you should be able to get the menus and OSD to work. If however the
rest of the OSD is displayed (pause/play position stuff and channel change
information) then the problem is likely to be something different.

It was me. My E-mail _should_ have instead asked that there be a
disclaimer, warning, something in the HOWTO instead of being taken
off-line. When I upgraded from a working FC2 configuration to FC3 and
everything broke, I was very, very surprised. At the time, being taken
off-line was my first thought and I ran with it. ** My apologies to
who were offended at the off-line suggestion. **

Jarod has updated his HOWTO to indicate there is a problem. That's really
the best thing until someone (myself or others) figures out what's up.

I've E-mailed Axel and Jarod privately to discuss some of these issues,
what I'm testing, and I'll post as soon as I know more.

I don't see how the graphics adaptor makes a significant difference
when I'm only navigating the menus -- not watching tv or a dvd.

The computer I'm testing mythtv on is a p2-450 (386 MB) with a nVidia
RIVA TNT2 (32 MB) graphics adaptor. I'm running XFree86 4.3.0 from
Debian's current sid distribution with the nv driver. This box acts
as a small server and I never intended on using it with mythtv. I'm
just using it to test mythtv while I'm home for the holidays.

In a week or so, I'm switching to another computer. It's a p3-800
(512 MB) with an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro AIW (128 MB) and I'll probably
use ATI's binary driver with the same version of XFree86. I have a
PVR-500 on order and I'm hoping to use a DVI->HDMI cable to connect
to my HDTV.

That does seem like "lightweight" hardware for running this kind of
system, but that being said I have a P3-450 + GeForce 4 MX440 that I use
as a frontend that has none of the performance problems you're seeing so
I'm suspecting that you are running fairly unoptimtized. The graphics
card certainly matters even for the menus.

If you start mythfrontend from a console window with --verbose all
enabled, what kind of messages do you see? Have you done xvinfo? What
output does that show?

read the

I'm not a linux newbie but I'm not an expert either. Using Jarod's
guide, I was
able to install FC1 (it was a while back) and myth, configure
everything and
have it all working in a period of maybe 6 hours. I've used his guide
for FC2
installs and have done it enough times now that I can install FC, myth,
configure and have a running system in about 3 hours.

I for one am grateful for Jarods guide and think he did an outstanding
job with
it. The only thing that would make it even better would be if there
was a link
on the site to a kickstart to use to install the whole works from the
ground up.
Then about all his instructions would need to say would be:

   Download kickstart.
Boot linux install aiming at kickstart floppy.
Come back later when it's done.
Obviously it wouldn't be that easy, but pretty close. :-)

We are all very lucky that jarod was nice enough to even write
anything down for people less linux or even technically inclined have
something to guide them. How many people are good at writing step by
step documentation especially in the higher ups in unix/linux. Someone
with decent technical documentation skills is hard to come by and
seeing he is giving up his time and effort for free (although he does
accept donations). I consider myself on the lower middle of linux tech
skill and google searching, but I was able to build my first myth box
barely functional after about 4-5 days of solid work and even then It
wasnt 100% functional. and with jarods guide and about 4 hours my

use ATI's binary driver with the same version of XFree86. I have a
PVR-500 on order and I'm hoping to use a DVI->HDMI cable to connect
to my HDTV.

Good, Jarod and Axel welcome feedback. They'll converse with you directly if
you want,
just realize that they have a life outside of MythTV, so they might not answer
immediately. Allow them a day or two to respond.

Also good. We are a community. I'm anxious to see what you learn. I wish that I
were
able to devote more time to getting MythTV to run on FC3.

Yes, clearly the writeup in Jarod's guide worked for him, and just as clearly
some of us
are running into snags. It's broken for me, but not for Jarod. That's OK,
report your
findings here and we'll all take a stab at it. Even KnoppMyth won't work for
me... such is
life... and this is the exact same hardware that ran MythTV on FC1 for months
with nary
a whimper, so go figure. Hmmm... Come to think of it even getting it to run on
FC1
using Jarod's guide was not a slam-dunk the first time around.

but...

Someone, I don't know if it was you, Matt, stated that the guide should be
taken offline. I
don't believe that the author of that remark intended it to be taken the way it
was by the
"communuity:" It ruffled a lot of feathers for no good reason. I'm sure that it
was made in
the frustration of the moment, but suggesting that the guide should be taken
offline is
WAY over the top. (on the part of whoever said it) In fact the "put up or shut
up" remark
was a knee-jerk as well. I'm sure the author of that remark didn't intend it
the way it
sounded either.

I wish Jarod and Axel could devote a day or two to focus all of their attention
on the
guide and the RPM's. For that matter I'd bet that Isaac would welcome a WHOLE
DAY,
but that ain't going to happen unless someone were to send them each a couple
of
hundred bucks, along with all the goofy hardware that we try to make it run on,
so that
they can take a day off of work to play with MythTV.

Meanwhile, we have one heck of a good starting point in the form of Jarod's
guide,
which is now in it's 3rd generation and almost works.

Thanks for the replies.

[mythtv-users] Newbie: FC3 - MythFrontEnd error message - backend server not started ????

2004-12-29 Thread Clive at Rational
Questions, questions.

Setup: FC3, kernel 2.6.9 Myth 0.16 installed using the
"automatic apt-get method". Frontned backend and
database all installed on single machine.

Maybe the following is relevant to all the problems I
see trying to configure and run Myth Tv - maybe not.

When I run Mythfrontend then select "Watch TV" I see
the message

2004-12-29 20:35:21 Connecting to backend server:

I haven't changed any of the network port parameters
and should expect this loop-back port to be available
if myth backend has attempted to open it. Copy of
netstat command is at end of myth messages.

Now in the myth setup instructions I didn't see
anything that tells me how to start the backend
server. Greatest apologies if it is there - can you
point me to it?

Re: [mythtv-users] X through PVR350 probs

I will need to sit down and walk through those steps, and update the document
since this/that part is the only thing I haven't completed. I'm pretty busy
right now so I don't know when I will get to it. I'll post the results when I
get the chance to work on it.

If you figure it out in the meantime, do the same, and post the details.
Revisiting it isn't going to be easy for me. Because of my setup, I simply made
sure I could do it, then went back to using the frontend on the VGA display and
watching the playbacks on the TV... since I haven't got my infrared
distribution setup yet, I can't control the frontend from where the televisions
are at (the computer is in a back room).

John mentioned a possible patch that would set the X server from locking up a
virtual console. That'd be great to work with if he is able to find it.

seconds for retrieving the weather data.

How much does the graphics card effect performance for menu-only
functions (no tv, dvd, etc.)? The menus display quickly, but take
awhile to switch to another menu.

The graphics card is very important. You haven't mentioned what kind of

Re: [mythtv-users] Jarod's HOWTO for FC3/PVR-350/X - Please Take Offline

2004-12-29 Thread Michael J. Lynch
Here's my two cents worth. As far as I'm concerned, Jarods guide is the
bible
when it comes to installing and getting myth up and running. I
researched linux
PVR stuff for about a week before I found myth and Jarods guide. I read the
guide over a couple of times and took the plunge.

I'm not a linux newbie but I'm not an expert either. Using Jarod's
guide, I was
able to install FC1 (it was a while back) and myth, configure everything and
have it all working in a period of maybe 6 hours. I've used his guide
for FC2
installs and have done it enough times now that I can install FC, myth,
configure and have a running system in about 3 hours.

I for one am grateful for Jarods guide and think he did an outstanding
job with
it. The only thing that would make it even better would be if there was
a link
on the site to a kickstart to use to install the whole works from the

Even switching between menus? Mine draw quickly, but are slow to

Re: [mythtv-users] menu speed

2004-12-29 Thread Paul Miller
I just tried mythtv with no window manager and I did notice a slight
improvement, but it is still quite a bit slower than I'd like...

Going through the program guide is very slow.

Launching the weather plugin takes about 20 seconds and another 10
seconds for retrieving the weather data.

How much does the graphics card effect performance for menu-only
functions (no tv, dvd, etc.)? The menus display quickly, but take
awhile to switch to another menu.

Re: [mythtv-users] Hard lockups when viewing Live TV or recorded TV PVR-250 ATI Radeon 7000.

2004-12-29 Thread John Johnson
After trying an ATI Radeon 9250, gatos drivers, ATI's own drivers, etc.
I finally solved the problem: I returned both cards and bought an
nVidia based card. This one:

It was also cheaper and had rebates.

Unfortunately all the time I wasted on the ATI cards is gone.

So, looks like I have an X problem. It's running the vesa driver now.
Nothing I did can make the ati or radeon drivers work, much less
theatre_out. Think I'll go pick up an nVidia card and give it a shot.

Thanks for any advice!

Aha Mythfrontend - of course a different set of setup
menus :)

I tried various settings of gui and screen,
particularly 640x 480 which managed to change the
display resolution - so I was changing something
relevant, however, whatever values I put in, the
buttons are either fully visible, 30% visible, 0%
visible (although "there and "selectable") across
various screens. So the problem remains.

Well helping to fix the problem is great, but shutting it down doesnt
help, Maybe Jarod hasnt had time to update it I mean he only has a
life away from mythtv, including a job, and a holiday season, but I am
sure any positive input to how to fix it might be useful, but if he
takes it down he might not get the info needed to finish the support.
I consider myself on the lower middle of linux tech
skill and google searching, but I was able to build my first myth box
barely functional after about 4-5 days of solid work and even then It
wasnt 100% functional. and with jarods guide and about 4 hours my
first time I had a fully functioning and recording box.

The Epia-N hasn't been released yet afaik, hence no price info. This
interview is the closest I've seen to a guide:
http://www.epiacenter.com/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=53

"This depends to a very large degree on the country in which you buy the

country. Due to the high level of integration of the VIA EPIA N Nano-ITX,

While I like the CN400 chipset, it's currently offered only on EPIA N
boards. But, the CLE266 chipset has been around for some time and
people seems to be happy with it. The Unichrome drivers seem to have
matured enough for this project. Beside, if there were a mini-itx
board with a CN400 chipset, it would be as expensive as the EPIA N. :)
The Epia-SP above (290 Euros) is the only announced CN400 mini itx board I

Mpeg4 decoder will likely not be supported for some time under linux, and

One more thing on this subject... Did you ever look at bugzilla.atrpms.net,
like it suggests at the very top of the document? There are entries there
relating to 350 output, including one that indicates the ck100zz code won't
work, which has been there since December 1st and another entry from December
20th from someone who says they got their 350's output working, along with
how they did it.

Take another look at that page. I already added something at the top yesterday
afternoon that says "350 output may be tanked under FC3". That said, my FC3
Myth box works just fine, I just haven't had time to try 350 output lately.

Horsefeathers. I'm using the ck100zz drivers on my FC3 Myth box without a
problem. They seem pretty useful to me.

Then please try using the very latest 0.2.0-rc build and 0.7 ivtv driver.
Rumor has it this fixed some bug that was causing major problems on FC3.

Hopefully someone figures out how to fix it and sends me updated instructions
so everyone else can be saved the work. Or I'll do it myself when I have the
time. I just don't have the time right now, my personal life is a bit on the
busy side. Sorry. I hope to have a chance over the upcoming weekend to tinker

Known problem, just haven't had time for an update. You ought to be able to
get around things by simply removing yum (rpm -e yum). It really isn't a
required package, since it does the same thing as apt, more or less. The
other fix is to enable at-testing and install python 2.4 along with the
updated yum.

Re: [mythtv-users] Pvr-350 - Do the menus work on tvout

2004-12-29 Thread John Van Ostrand
There is a difference between TV out which is selected by choosing the
"Use PVR250/350 output" in Mythfrontend's setup verses having X run on
the PVR350 frame buffer device.

I just posted today the method of setup. Check in the archives.

You might check if your STB has a serial port (that may look like a

Also, I'm running over NFS, and found that the number of stat calls

That could be the ticket. I might give that a go.

I knew there would be a bit of "build your own" stuff going on and
didn't expect a perfect fit. However, we have had some quotes of over
$50k to get something to do this and we just don't have that in the
budget.

Re: [mythtv-users] video scheduling for local/public access cable channel

2004-12-29 Thread Bruce Markey
Ian Connor wrote:
I work with a nonprofit public access TV station and we are looking
for video scheduling system to broadcast our local channel.
MythTV schedules recordings. It does not schedule playback.
We will be producing a content ourselves (probably via a macintosh as
well as from video tape through traditional video editing means). We
will also be pulling information that is free to rebroadcast from
sattelite feeds (there is a lot of content that you can rebroadcast
through cable TV as a non-profit).
MythTV could be useful here for scheduling the digital recording
of sattelite feeds if you have listing for these feeds from
DataDirect or even XMLTV. Myth would be able to control multilpe
tuners on one or many machines, prioritize conflicts, avoid duplicates,
etc. You would then need something else to schedule playback of
the recordings.
So, I would imagine that we would rip the video all to hard disk,
download the video files produced on the macintosh and then schedule
it to be played back. We only have one channel to fill so the system
does not need to be too fancy. I noticed that MythTV can control a
number of TVs - so could we have the cable channel set up as one of
these?
Again, record and playback are vague here. Myth "can control a number
of TV" tuner cards for recording. A number of users each at a computer
(hooked up to TV or monitor) running mythfronted can control mythtv.
The frontend is for user interaction and is not designed for automated
broadcast playback.
When we are not playing content, we have a public services board that
displays a little slide show of what is going on in the town. I can
see MythTV allows you to show photo slides through your TV - this idea
would work well if we could automate when the slide would show and
when and what videos would show.
The system now is not software based at all. We have a controlling box
that does nothing more than turn on video tapes and switch to show
that tape. We program the video switching device when to rewind, when
to play and when to stop - so to my mind doing this all on a computer
should not be that much different and I hope it would not cost too
much while giving us more flexibility. I hope that we would be able to
control it and automate it from there.
However, the question is where to start and if MythTV can do some of
the job with little or no coding changes.
There is an executable called "mythtv" that takes a filename as an
argument and simply plays the file. You could potentially write
scripts that run the specific files at a prescribed time.

Uuuhh, this may be way off target, but you may want to consider this:

>Installed the ivtv 0.3 driver and it seems to be much better
- ivtv 0.3 is generally considered bleeding edge, you may want to
consider 0.2x
http://205.209.168.201/~ckennedy/ivtv/
- If you're using the 0.2x or 0.3x driver the tuner type is
automatically detected. There's no need to force it.
- If you're using the 0.3 driver, I believe the modules.conf setup
should look more like:

# use this setup for the ckennedy drivers (0.2x and 0.3x)
alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-0 ivtv

### setup with original driver - stock 0.1.9 version - NTSC#

#add below ivtv msp3400 saa7115 saa7127 tuner
