0.18 (release) and all add-on themes/plugins built on Mandrake 10.1,
and everything checked (so far) works very well.
Will work down the list of things folks have said do not work, and
report back.
SO far:
mythmusic, mythvideo, livetv, playback of recording, recording itself,
and mythweather work fine AFACT.

I cannot check mythphone.
0.18 also fixed the silly time shift bug that has been pissing me off since
the DST time change. (Actually a bug in QT3.3.4 IIRC)
I'm sure THAC will have packages soon, but if you're in the mood, all
the deps are an easy urpmi blah -a and looking at the results away

Well, you could either get tv_grab_dvb and try that or run dvbsnoop -n

Re: [mythtv-users] aspect ratio troubles

2005-04-25 Thread Andrew Herron
 G'day all
When I watch live tv, with aspect ratio set to Off, it looks exactly the same
as if it's set to 16:9. I automatically transcode all my recordings.
When watching a recording that was recorded/transcoded with 0.15/.16, I always
have to switch to 16:9 when starting to watch a recording, as it starts off
looking the same as 4:3 (with aspect ratio set to Off). With 0.17/0.18
recordings however, they look fine - I don't have to change ar - having it
set to None is the same as 16:9.

I'm using the same settings as you with 0.17 and had this happen on
the only transcode I've tried so far. I'm glad I checked save
original files after transcoding, now I just have to work out how to
restore the original file so I can try transcoding again...

[mythtv-users] Issues with new DVB card (aspect ratio and interlacing)

2005-04-25 Thread Marlor LPE
Hi All,

I've been running MythTV for quite a while with an
analogue tuner card, using an XBox (and more recently
a Mac mini) as the frontend. All the deinterlacing has
been done server-side while encoding, so this has been
working extremely well.

This weekend, I decided to switch to a DVB-T card
(XPERT DTV-DVB-T with the cx88xx chipset). The card is
now set up and working with MythTV, but I have two
issues:

1. I can't use filters such as kerneldeint when
encoding. This seems strange, since MythTV is encoding
the stream to MPEG-4, just as it did with the analogue
card.

2. The aspect ratio is stuck at 16:9. This means that
when a show is broadcast in 4:3, there are black bars
at the top, bottom and sides.

When using my PC as a frontend, I can deinterlace the
picture during playback and alter the aspect ratio in
order to fix these issues. Unfortunately, the Mac mini
does not cope well with either of these workarounds
(applying any zooming or filters sends the CPU usage
sky-high), so does anyone have any advice of a
solution on the server-side?

Thanks,
Aaron

If you are using DVB then you will be getting a MPEG stream directly

It won't have a hardware MPEG encoder - doesn't need one since the over-

I was wondering if anyone that records HDTV with Myth would be willing
to provide a download link for me for a clip recorded from their
system. I'm interested in testing my frontend hardware to see if it is
capable of playing back HDTV content before I invest in the tuner needed
to record it. I would prefer something that would be considered the
hardest HDTV recording to play back effectively (1080i?). I have a
10Mbs internet connection so I can download the clip very quickly if
that helps.

Thanks,
Kevin

[mythtv-users] USleep with busy wait, have RTC, and compiled with OpenGL, but still using usleep

2005-04-25 Thread Chad
Hi!

I'm running Gentoo, with 0.18 and have this pop up everytime I'm
watching something. I have searched the list, and it seems that there
are better ways of video timing. The solutions presented said to
compile with OpenGL support, or enable RTC in your kernel; but I have
done both and yet Myth still seems to want to use Usleep, any
suggestions?

Don't know if it's relevant:

Frontend
P4 2.8
ATI 9600 Pro (maybe..., it's a laptop, and I believe this was the card)
Netgear WAG511 (wireless link to backend via Linksys Router in G only mode)

Backend
AMD64 3200
Nvidia GF4 MX440
WD2000JD (SATA 7200RPM 200GB Hard Drive) with XFS filesystem
BT8x (bttv module)
Philips SAA7130 (saa7134 module)
network card is wired to Linksys Router

[mythtv-users] setting up a pvr-500 in mythtvsetup.

2005-04-25 Thread mandal
Okay I've used Jarrod's guide and the card works.
I can get video and audio.
But...
I can't seem to be able to record one channel and then watch
live TV on another.

My PVR-500 according to /var/log/messages is recognized
as two PVR-150's.

So when I go to mythtvsetup
enter
capture cards.
I pick mpeg-2 encoder (PVR-250,PVR-350)
Video device: /dev/video0
Default Input: Tuner0

In input connections I have
both tuner's set to cable.

.
When I run mythfrontend
I can switch tuners by hitting the C key
but I can't get picture in picture nor can I
watch tv on one channel and record another.

I've tried setting it up as two cards.
where I added a second mpeg-2 encoder
video device: /dev/video1
Default input Tuner1
Set both cards/tuners to cable in the input connections.

But when I do this I can't watch live TV.

What do I do?

Mark

Now here is where I am stumped.

[mythtv-users] Pre-buffering pauses on Toshiba 4300 laptop

2005-04-25 Thread Shawn Flynn

I am currently trying to setup an old laptop as a
frontend only box for my MythTV system (details below). Everything is installed
and running ok, except that I get pre-buffering pauses when I try to playback
any of my recordings. Looking at 'top' it appears that the cpu is being pegged
at 100% during video playback (65% mythfrontend, 35% X). This laptop _should_ be
fast enough to playback the videos as I can play them back on another frontend
with a slower processor. Can anyone offer some suggestions as to where to look
to improve performance for this machine?

Toshiba Sattelite 4300 Pro, P3-600, 192MB RAM, S3
Savage/IX

Fedora 3 and Mythtv 0.17 installed using Jarod's
most excellent guide.

Using internal LCD panel @ 1024x768 as display
(Laptop has TV-Out but I won't be using it)

xvinfo tells me that XV is running for the
Savage/IX video

Video clips being played are [EMAIL PROTECTED] mpg2 captured with a PVR250. Video
clips are ok as I can play them with my celeron 533/ATi Rage frontend machine
without pauses.

Any suggestions for troubleshooting
this?

Thanks in advance,

[mythtv-users] No menu items in mythfrontend

2005-04-25 Thread Zole
Having kind of a strange problem, couldn't find any reference to it in
the list archives but maybe someone can help. Last night I upgraded

#3 Firewire connection to Motorola DCT-6200 (need a line up for Cox

So guys, help a brother out, I need to specify a lineup with zap2it

[mythtv-users] OT: Mysql DB backups don't produce same results?

2005-04-25 Thread Chad
Hi!

I don't know how appropriate it is to post/attach 2 files, one fairly
large, and one slightly large (~20MB, ~1.7MB) so I won't. But here's
my question:

I made a backup of my mythconverg database locally on my remote mysql
only machine (meaning I was ssh'd into the machine) using just:
mysqldump -p mythconverg mythdb.sql

Then, I made a second one, about 2 hours later using a script from a
user posted on here:
#!/bin/sh
dbdump=/home/mythtv/backup/mythtv_backup.`date '+%w'`.sql.bz2
/usr/bin/mysqldump -u mythtv -pmythtv -h mysqlserver mythconverg -c |
bzip2 -c  ${dbdump}

From my mythbackend (the host being mysqlserver) and got different
results. Nothing had been done, no mythfilldatabase was run, nothing
was recording in that time difference, however their outputs are
slightly different; any ideas why?

If you need more info, or if I should attach (or link to) the 2 files,
please let me know.

Thanks!

[mythtv-users] Best Analog Capture (maybe not mpeg2?)

2005-04-25 Thread Jean Connelly
Hi,

I'm finally getting around to finalizing my PVR setup and my next part
of the project is to pick the best analog capture option out of the
hardware I already have available. I figured I'd try to capture
similar material with each option and then review the results.
However, I thought I'd throw a note out first to see if anybody has
already done the work for me :-) . I've looked around in the archive,
but I couldn't find answers to the types of questions I have.

My goal is to do analog captures of various programs to be archived.

I noticed that everybody seems to be using mpeg2 cards these days for
analog capture, but isn't that a big quality cut? especially for
material that should really be run through an inverse telecine filter
before encoding?

If I'll be using a card without mpeg2 hardware compression, is there
any card that really has a better Y/C filter than my good ol' JVC VCR?
Also, since I'll be capping from a cable box for the time being, has
anybody evaluated the Y/C filter on the motorola 6200 boxes? That has
an S-Video out. The firewire output of the 6200 on analog stations
seems to be pretty ugly (all kinds of block artifacts).

I've just got a really big matrix of things to check out in the
equipment I already own:

Capture Cards:
   Mjpeg Hardware :
  G400-TV
  G400 + RR
  Iomega Buz
   No Hardware Compression
  saa7133 based card
  cx88 based card on hd-3000

Cable Video Source path
   RF in from cable box
   Composite from cable box
   S-Vid from cable box
   Composite from VCR
   S-Vid from VCR

Thanks for any suggestions,
Jean

[mythtv-users] RE: MythMusic spdif

2005-04-25 Thread Vinton Coffman
Is it me? Or does mythmusic only work on oss?

I use alsa:spdif for mythtv, so when I use mythmusic I have to switch
to my
analog output before I can hear audio!
I had problems getting mythmusic to play through spdif even after
following the DigitalSound HOWTO at

http://www.mythtv.info/moin.cgi/DigitalSoundHowTo
I used the more advanced .asoundrc file and uncommented the 14th line
slave.pcm dmix-digital
I'm sorry I can't remember for certain which one of these I'm currently
using
 /dev/adsp
or
ALSA:dmix-digital
 or
alas:dmix-digital

I can check tonight if you haven't got it working. However, the key
for my system was adding the following line to modules.conf or
modprobe.conf depending on whether you're using a 2.6 or 2.4 kernel.
This number may be different depending on your sound card.

options snd-pcm-oss adsp_map=2
You should be able to verify the number of your spdif output by
cat /proc/asound/pcm
00-00: Intel ICH : NVidia nForce2 : playback 1 : capture 1
00-01: Intel ICH - MIC ADC : NVidia nForce2 - MIC ADC : capture 1
00-02: Intel ICH - IEC958 : NVidia nForce2 - IEC958 : playback 1
The IEC958 line is the spdif on my nForce2 builtin audio, so I set
adsp_map=2

Everything was working fine with the above config until I upgraded from
redhat 9 to fedore core 3. I got a bunch of permission in mythtv about
not being able to open the audio devs. I fixed this by editing
/etc/udev/permissions.d/50-udev.permissions. I changed the group
permission on all of the audio stuff to my mythtv group. I haven't
seen this mentioned before, but it fixed my situation.

[mythtv-users] Impressive, but some minor issues

2005-04-25 Thread Gavin Haslett
Greetings,

I've recently bit the bullet and built myself a rather nice little MythBox. Not
much in terms of hardware; Athlon 800 I had lying around, 60Gb hard drive
dedicated to video etc. etc. I know, not very impressive, but so far I've been
impressed with the results.

I do have a couple of minor issues though, and I need to see if anyone else is
having these problems;

1) Apparently at random, mythbackend seems to stop. There's nothing unusual in
the logs... it just appears that I turn on my TV to find mythfrontend
complaining about the lack of a backend, and I have to go in and restart
mythbackend.

Since this machine is intended for my wife to use as well as me, this obviously
isn't always an option (I'm a UNIX, Windows and Novell guy... she has trouble
with Windows XP at times) and I don't feel like VPN'ing in from work every time
she complains that it died, I created a little script that checks every minute
if the backend is running and kicks it back in if it's not. Not perfect and a
little annoying. There doesn't appear to be anything unusual in the logs, the
only entry I see is when the script kicks the mythbackend on again, other than
that nothing. Any ideas on this one?

2) This morning I attempted to record Quantum Leap. Yeah, I'm an old-school
geek. Now, so far recording's been doing great, but this morning the show
recorded OK, but I saw no jobs for commercial flagging or transcoding, and a
show that was transcoding last night apparently was still in a stopping state
(there are two more jobs in the queue that are still unprocessed, but Quantum
Leap wasn't in the list). Anyway, lacking anything else to do I rebooted the
entire system... figured it would save time. When it came back up, no QL. It
was completely missing from the Recordings list, and from the Previously
Recorded list. When I checked the HD, the .nuv file was there, but apparently
an entry never got made to SQL. Any thoughts on that one?

Since I'm really only in a testing mode right now, I'm not that worried about
the loss of one episode of Quantum Leap... I was just playing with the box and
not worried about it, but I don't want this happening again if possible.

FYI, I don't see anything in the logs to suggest that mythbackend crashed last
night, though it does look like the mythtranscode process may have hung and
screwed something up.

Oh, and after the reboot, the transcoding of that show that was stopping
apparently started again. We'll see when I get home tonight what the logs look
like.

Any suggestions for a MythTV noob?

[mythtv-users] updating mythtv does not work

2005-04-25 Thread Tomi Makinen
Hey,

I have been having odd problems when updating mythtv. It has occured atleast in
2 of the last update .. .017.X and 0.18.

I have pvr 250 and FC3. I am not able to use atrpms kernel 2.6.10-770
at all. Atleast with
the newest mythtv. I am using mythtv 0.17.20050130-1 and kernel 2.6.10-1.737_FC3
and everything works fine.

But when I do apt-get upgrade and run mythtvsetup, everything goes
totally wrong.
in 737 kernel, live tv is distorted, only some pictures from different
channels and no
sound at all. it is really psychedelic. In 770 kernel, live tv is
black and no sound.
everything is slow and I think ivtv might not work there either, but I
cannot be sure
since when I put my original mythtv version back to use, everything
works fine with
737 kernel. I have not tried with new kernel and old mythtv.

Anybody else have these difficulties ?
Any ideas what could be done to make this work ?

Actually LTSP looks like I would work great off a compact flash to get

Looks like Qt::BusyCursor was only added recently

You could of cause upgrade to QT 3.3 and MythBrowser will compile fine :-)
An easier quick fix is to change 'Qt:BusyCursor' to 'Qt:WaitCursor' which is
available
in QT 3.1

[mythtv-users] Re: Mythmusic sorting.

2005-04-25 Thread Paul
Is there any way to get mythmusic to sort by album name, rather than by
artist name, when setting up a playlist? The reason I ask is that a
large share of my CD collection that I've ripped to mp3 is compilation
albums, and I'd rather be able to select them in one go than have to
hunt down each artist that appears on the album in the artist selector.

And if this isn't possible, is there anywhere to submit feature requests
for this module?

--Matt

Have you tried changing the Tree Sorting setting on the General
setting page for MythMusic to album title. Not tried this but it
should work. Except with that setting it would be a pain finding
all tracks by an artist so you can't win!

I recently bought a PVR150. I installed the IVTV Drivers and the card
seemed to be working. Without cable or antenna hooked up i would get
static and static noise. I could pause and rewind the static so i went
ahead with the myth install/setup.

After a couple of reboots, i wanted to try it once more before moving
it to where my TV is and i got 2 seconds of static then it locked up
and after a few seconds of staring at a locked up screen, I was
returned to a Myth error screen There was a problem with the video
input...

After the error and a reboot i no longer had a video0 in /dev/ . I
reloaded the drivers and got video0 back but the same thing happened
when i tested it.

I took out the card and put it in a windows XP machine and NO new
hardware was detected and nothing in the bios or device manager.

my question is - Could i have physically damaged the card by using the
testing IVTV Drivers? I dont think i have ever seen drivers damage a
peice of hardware but is it possible?

Make sure you have installed mythtv-themes, too. It is automatically

Yes I've seen this behaviour. I've posted a couple of threads here and on the

code for Mpeg2 streams. A patch released by Daniel Kristjansson in a thread

some fix the symptom (although not apparently the underlying problem).

The PVR-500 shows up to the system as 2 seperate PVT-150s. Each 150

change your input on the second 150 to be Tuner0 as well. I have a

[mythtv-users] MythGame Genre tree is broken

Ok - I think I've determined it's the Genre portion of the MythGame tree which
is broken.

When you remove Genre from the tree - it shows the games and all is good.

When it's part of the tree - the tree terminates at this node level and never
shows the actual games.

Hope this is helpful for whoever is going to fix this - or anyone trying to use
MythGames.

BTW - someone just posted a patch to MythGames to add new root levels to the
tree if you are interested. You can find it on the mythtv-dev mailing list.

I see some errors floating about but none of them seem related to the

me that it is connecting to the backend and recieving that the
protocal version is 15, but its also saying the the scripts are
expecting version 14 which would say to me that the scripts are older
than you think. Maybe try reinstalling them?

That is correct, it means the mythweb being used isn't as up to date
as the backend. Off hand I'd look to see if the mythweb rpm didn't
install it in a slightly different location than it was previously
installed.

Check /var/www/html/ and see if perhaps the latest version actually
installed to /var/www/html/mythweb/ or something like that. Other
than that, try removing the mythweb rpm and reinstalling.
