Re: [mythtv-users] aspect ratio troubles
G'day all When I watch live tv, with aspect ratio set to Off, it looks exactly the same as if it's set to 16:9. I automatically transcode all my recordings. When watching a recording that was recorded/transcoded with 0.15/.16, I always have to switch to 16:9 when starting to watch a recording, as it starts off looking the same as 4:3 (with aspect ratio set to Off). With 0.17/0.18 recordings however, they look fine - I don't have to change ar - having it set to None is the same as 16:9. I'm using the same settings as you with 0.17 and had this happen on the only transcode I've tried so far. I'm glad I checked save original files after transcoding, now I just have to work out how to restore the original file so I can try transcoding again... ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
[mythtv-users] Issues with new DVB card (aspect ratio and interlacing)
Hi All, I've been running MythTV for quite a while with an analogue tuner card, using an XBox (and more recently a Mac mini) as the frontend. All the deinterlacing has been done server-side while encoding, so this has been working extremely well. This weekend, I decided to switch to a DVB-T card (XPERT DTV-DVB-T with the cx88xx chipset). The card is now set up and working with MythTV, but I have two issues: 1. I can't use filters such as kerneldeint when encoding. This seems strange, since MythTV is encoding the stream to MPEG-4, just as it did with the analogue card. 2. The aspect ratio is stuck at 16:9. This means that when a show is broadcast in 4:3, there are black bars at the top, bottom and sides. When using my PC as a frontend, I can deinterlace the picture during playback and alter the aspect ratio in order to fix these issues. Unfortunately, the Mac mini does not cope well with either of these workarounds (applying any zooming or filters sends the CPU usage sky-high), so does anyone have any advice of a solution on the server-side? [mythtv-users] OT: Mysql DB backups don't produce same results?
Hi! I don't know how appropriate it is to post/attach 2 files, one fairly large, and one slightly large (~20MB, ~1.7MB) so I won't. But here's my question: I made a backup of my mythconverg database locally on my remote mysql only machine (meaning I was ssh'd into the machine) using just: mysqldump -p mythconverg mythdb.sql Then, I made a second one, about 2 hours later using a script from a user posted on here: #!/bin/sh dbdump=/home/mythtv/backup/mythtv_backup.`date '+%w'`.sql.bz2 /usr/bin/mysqldump -u mythtv -pmythtv -h mysqlserver mythconverg -c | bzip2 -c ${dbdump} From my mythbackend (the host being mysqlserver) and got different results. Nothing had been done, no mythfilldatabase was run, nothing was recording in that time difference, however their outputs are slightly different; any ideas why? If you need more info, or if I should attach (or link to) the 2 files, please let me know. [mythtv-users] Best Analog Capture (maybe not mpeg2?)
Hi, I'm finally getting around to finalizing my PVR setup and my next part of the project is to pick the best analog capture option out of the hardware I already have available. I figured I'd try to capture similar material with each option and then review the results. However, I thought I'd throw a note out first to see if anybody has already done the work for me :-) . I've looked around in the archive, but I couldn't find answers to the types of questions I have. My goal is to do analog captures of various programs to be archived. I noticed that everybody seems to be using mpeg2 cards these days for analog capture, but isn't that a big quality cut? especially for material that should really be run through an inverse telecine filter before encoding? If I'll be using a card without mpeg2 hardware compression, is there any card that really has a better Y/C filter than my good ol' JVC VCR? Also, since I'll be capping from a cable box for the time being, has anybody evaluated the Y/C filter on the motorola 6200 boxes? That has an S-Video out. The firewire output of the 6200 on analog stations seems to be pretty ugly (all kinds of block artifacts). However, the key for my system was adding the following line to modules.conf or modprobe.conf depending on whether you're using a 2.6 or 2.4 kernel. This number may be different depending on your sound card. options snd-pcm-oss adsp_map=2 You should be able to verify the number of your spdif output by cat /proc/asound/pcm 00-00: Intel ICH : NVidia nForce2 : playback 1 : capture 1 00-01: Intel ICH - MIC ADC : NVidia nForce2 - MIC ADC : capture 1 00-02: Intel ICH - IEC958 : NVidia nForce2 - IEC958 : playback 1 The IEC958 line is the spdif on my nForce2 builtin audio, so I set adsp_map=2 Everything was working fine with the above config until I upgraded from redhat 9 to fedore core 3. I got a bunch of permission in mythtv about not being able to open the audio devs. I fixed this by editing /etc/udev/permissions.d/50-udev.permissions. [mythtv-users] Impressive, but some minor issues
Greetings, I've recently bit the bullet and built myself a rather nice little MythBox. Not much in terms of hardware; Athlon 800 I had lying around, 60Gb hard drive dedicated to video etc. etc. I know, not very impressive, but so far I've been impressed with the results. I do have a couple of minor issues though, and I need to see if anyone else is having these problems; 1) Apparently at random, mythbackend seems to stop. There's nothing unusual in the logs... it just appears that I turn on my TV to find mythfrontend complaining about the lack of a backend, and I have to go in and restart mythbackend. Since this machine is intended for my wife to use as well as me, this obviously isn't always an option (I'm a UNIX, Windows and Novell guy... she has trouble with Windows XP at times) and I don't feel like VPN'ing in from work every time she complains that it died, I created a little script that checks every minute if the backend is running and kicks it back in if it's not. Not perfect and a little annoying. There doesn't appear to be anything unusual in the logs, the only entry I see is when the script kicks the mythbackend on again, other than that nothing. Any ideas on this one? 2) This morning I attempted to record Quantum Leap. Yeah, I'm an old-school geek. Now, so far recording's been doing great, but this morning the show recorded OK, but I saw no jobs for commercial flagging or transcoding, and a show that was transcoding last night apparently was still in a stopping state (there are two more jobs in the queue that are still unprocessed, but Quantum Leap wasn't in the list). Anyway, lacking anything else to do I rebooted the entire system... figured it would save time. When it came back up, no QL. It was completely missing from the Recordings list, and from the Previously Recorded list. When I checked the HD, the .nuv file was there, but apparently an entry never got made to SQL. Any thoughts on that one? Since I'm really only in a testing mode right now, I'm not that worried about the loss of one episode of Quantum Leap... I was just playing with the box and not worried about it, but I don't want this happening again if possible. FYI, I don't see anything in the logs to suggest that mythbackend crashed last night, though it does look like the mythtranscode process may have hung and screwed something up. Oh, and after the reboot, the transcoding of that show that was stopping apparently started again. We'll see when I get home tonight what the logs look like. Any suggestions for a MythTV noob? It has taken quite some time for MythTV to get to the point where it can reasonably be used with this configuration. Thanks for the help. It was using 56dpi. I now run XFree86 -dpi80 and the text lines up. On 4/25/05, Chris Hubball [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi, I've got X windows configured for my widescreen TV (720x576 aspect 16:9) and in all themes I find the text is in slightly the wrong place. In the menus, the text is a couple of pixels too high which isn't too bad, but most annoying is that in MythVideo all of the text is about 10 pixels too low which means it's outside the boxes. If you're running in a wide screen resolution you might want to try a wide screen theme. . That being said, your problem is most likely caused by not running at 100dpi. Without cable or antenna hooked up i would get static and static noise. I could pause and rewind the static so i went ahead with the myth install/setup. After a couple of reboots, i wanted to try it once more before moving it to where my TV is and i got 2 seconds of static then it locked up and after a few seconds of staring at a locked up screen, I was returned to a Myth error screen There was a problem with the video input... After the error and a reboot i no longer had a video0 in /dev/ . I reloaded the drivers and got video0 back but the same thing happened when i tested it. I took out the card and put it in a windows XP machine and NO new hardware was detected and nothing in the bios or device manager. my question is - Could i have physically damaged the card by using the testing IVTV Drivers? I dont think i have ever seen drivers damage a peice of hardware but is it possible? Although it may sound silly, I've heard that powering off the machine for a couple minutes before powering on can clear up issues. Apparently some settings stay in the NVRAM and need a little bit to clear out. I've seen this proposed many times on the IVTV. The problem is that when I'm trying to change settings on screen, the picture is cut off on all 4 edges, making it near impossible to see some of the options. How can I change this? I'll post my xorg.conf. I'm using the Unichrome driver with the 720x480Noscale mode, which has very little overscan. On my TV, for the GUI to be fully visible, I change the Appearance screen settings to 694 width, 445 height, 13 x offset, 15 y offset. If you are using a different mode, or your tv is slightly different, you'll need different numbers. -Michael ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

[mythtv-users] MythGame Genre tree is broken
Ok - I think I've determined it's the Genre portion of the MythGame tree which is broken. When you remove Genre from the tree - it shows the games and all is good. When it's part of the tree - the tree terminates at this node level and never shows the actual games. Hope this is helpful for whoever is going to fix this - or anyone trying to use MythGames. BTW - someone just posted a patch to MythGames to add new root levels to the tree if you are interested. You can find it on the mythtv-dev mailing list. -John -- ___ NEW! Lycos Dating Search. Maybe try reinstalling them? That is correct, it means the mythweb being used isn't as up to date as the backend. Off hand I'd look to see if the mythweb rpm didn't install it in a slightly different location than it was previously installed. Check /var/www/html/ and see if perhaps the latest version actually installed to /var/www/html/mythweb/ or something like that.
