[mythtv-users] Understanding the ringbuffer file.
In my research into providing an easy way to stream live TV content from a Myth box over a network I have come to a few conclusions. -Using nuvexport and/or DSmyth (or just transcoding on the backend) it is very easy to work with recorded programs. There is alot of documentation on this. None of it is helpful when referring to LiveTV. -Using DSmyth you can turn Windows Media Player into a dumb Myth frontend, that shows a LiveTV stream, but requires a tuner input and backend power, as it is a frontend connection. It is not efficient to have a tuner input and CPU cycles per user watching the same thing. -If you have a MPEG2 encoding card (PVR-x50) the buffer file is a standard MPEG2 file not RTJpeg in a Nuppel container and thus, this entire process is ALOT more academic. (Confirm/Deny?) -VLC seems to be the easiest answer with its ability to stream via mms/http/rtsp whatever it is playing. VLC is the principal tool used in the hard to configure mythstream plugin. The trick is to get VLC to play the ringbuf1.nuv file. First you have to get VLC to decode the video properly, and then handle the buffer changes. At this point, anyone on the network could tune in and get a stream of whatever that tuner card is watching (which is what I am aiming for). To give an example, on Sky+ here in the UK you have a record button on the remote control which, when pressed, records the current channel. This stops when either the programme ends, or when the user manually hits record/stop again. It isn't then added to any scheduled recordings list (why would I want to record a random piece of television again, and why would it even necessarily be on again ever at the same time, or on the same channel - in the example of a music video). I agree with Matt. It would be better to have a single consolidated script which services all states etc. If the state is not serviced in the script, someone add it to the script then recommit. If the XMLTV project allows us to update the scripts then fine, otherwise we need to centralise the script (without causing anyone to be libel) and allow the script to be modified by the user base. Do we also need to think about _which_ nineMSN script may be the best in the long run? There are 2 nineMSN scripts going around - the Damon Searle one, and the Michael Smith one. Personally, I prefer the Michael Smith one as it has an external config file which means that you don't have to update the script itself whenever a new version comes out. It lives at http://immir.com/tv_grab_au but the version that is there at the moment hasn't had the 1 line update to cope with the changed URL. I have seperate frontend and backend PCs, my backend is a P4 3.2ghz, with 2gb of ram. I am running FC4. I have 2 twinhan dvb/t cards and one saa7134 based analogue tuner. I am using 2 x 400gb sata drives with the /video folder on a logical volume. The saa7134 card give a fairly ordinary picture, but the dvb cards are great and they are the ones that are important to me, since the remaining analogue tv channels will be going digital soon. So I guess my questons are; Does any one have a batch of picture quality settings, that they believe are the best possible? Is a better picture obtained from DVI, VGA, or from TV out? You can't adjust the recording quality of DVB-T cards. They just take the MPEG-2 broadcast stream and dump it to disk. So no matter how much you play with recording profiles with these cards it makes no difference. So if you're having playback issues, perhaps the files are being transcoded without you knowing it into a low quality format? Or maybe there is something srange about your video settings that's affecting playback. I recently used the nvidia-settings utility to add some life to my playback because the colours etc were very flat up until then. As for which video out to use, I don't know but I would guess that T Vout is the worst of those 3, with DVI VBA being similar to each other. Regards, Phill Well, it seems like a total no-brainer to me - but maybe I am prejudiced coming from such an elegant (by comparison) system as Sky+ Digital here in the UK. I actually thought there was something wrong with my keyboard at first when I realised that pressing r again didn't stop recording. I searched Google, found a keymap for mythfrontend and have only recently come to the conclusion that Myth is weird. Whilst the premise of recording whole programmes, scheduling ones in the future, etc appears to work as designed there is a glaring oversight in not allowing instant record on/off. Taking the music video example further, I might be casually watching the channel and come across a song that I like. Unless I am mistaken whilst I can rewind Myth back to the beginning of the song, when I hit r it will record from wherever Live TV currently is, not where the ringbuffer is positioned, plus I have to quit back to the Myth menu and manually stop it recording when the song completes, and tell it never to record the whole programme again. What if there happens to be another song in the same time period of the programme (which is easily conceivable given music programmes in the EPG can be several hours long) that I want to record? If I've set it not to record, Myth won't do anything when I hit r. I haven't tried Windows Media Centre yet, but I'm keen to see if it is un-user friendly as Myth is when it comes to the simple premise of record what I want right now, and stop recording when I tell you to. [mythtv-users] Add a ton of new features to MythTV
A couple days ago I stumbled across another open source project, plutohome.com, which also incorporates MythTV. It seems like it adds a ton of features to Myth. For example, you can control Myth with your bluetooth mobile phone, pda's and web pads. And it has home automation too so when you turn on Myth it will also turn on the tv, dim the lights, etc. What got me most intrigued was that when you put in a DVD or CD it recognizes it perfectly each time and shows all the cover art and attributes, like actors. Hi all, While I havent actually used it, the Michael Smith one does indeed look better. It is not suprising that only a 1 line fix was required for this recent change as this script appears to use a proper HTML parser modue rather than plain regexes which are more suceptable to minor changes (addition of a new attribute, not actually a change of the attribute of interest is what broke the other script). Neither of them are particularly maintainable IMHO. Perl doesnt lend itself to that for starters, and there doesnt appear to be much documentation, at least at a high-level, of how the parsing actually works. An ideal design would abstract the parsing and support code, and be easily extensible to add more sources. The other HWW sites (seven, yahoo etc) are ideal candidates as they have much in common (region id's, pids etc). A d1 source could be trivially added to such a source also (isnt d1 data already in XMLTV format?), and perhaps oztivo too. Time permitting I may write such a grabber in python. Hosting and starting an sf project etc, are probably not really appropriate for such a script. Legal issues could arrise if unwanted attention is drawn to the script, and rapid changes are required to adapt to problems like this recent one (we cant all have commit access to sf??). I think the mailing list is doing an ok job, when someone asks, they get pointed in the right direction fairly quickly. I suspect the issue has little to do with usb vs lirc and more to do with IrDA vs Consumer IR. There is difference between IrDA and the IR used to control AV equipment. FWIW: I use a USB IR Reciever (the one that came with my DVICO DVB card). It DOES work with LIRC (though I had to patch lirc to add the DVICO driver) but it is NOT an IrDA dongle. OzTiVo already provide a grabber script which pulls the listings for mtheir database. I think you would be re-inventing the wheel if you included support for that. Also if they change their database we can ve confident that they will change their grabber script to support it. Time permitting I may write such a grabber in python. That would be great! big pain and is hopefully correct.
I've also included a fixes.diff of the simple change to get older versions to
work. To use type 'patch tv_grab_au fixes.diff'
Maybe its time to changing to Michael Smith's version. But I and most people
are reluctant (maybe too lazy) to change our settings in mythtv.

Having all the config external to the script is pretty much required for it to be be broadly useable, plus it has just proven itself to be more robust to site changes. Although I'd be happier with python, all the other tv_grab_xx scripts seem to be perl. I'm a big fan of not using multiple languages within a single project, and well-written perl isn't *that* hard to maintain. Although it can be a bit much late in the evening with no caffeine boost left :/ The XMLTV project at the link that Anssi posted is maintained by a guy called Ed Avis, so perhaps we should just submit the current Michael Smith grabber to him. USB-Serial converters don't allow for the low-level access needed to control the types of serial receivers that you typically see. Next on my to do list is to improve / change the parser but that would require major changes. Its been on my to do list for six months because the current version 'just works'. My dream was a python version with more redundancy and maybe a offsite cache of xmltv files to reduce load on the grab web site. It would be worth trying to submit it I guess. Having said that, an upstream version, if accepted, could go stale very quickly if ninemsn makes changes like this regularly. Does anyone know if all the other tv_grab_* scripts are html-scraping hacks of dubious legallity like this one??? I'd still prefer a nice python version, but having *something* upstream would be better than the current situation. Hi all, I'm a happy user of the mythtv with the following setup since around a year: - Fedora Core 3 with MythTV 0.18.1 - Pentium 4 (2.4GHz) - 1GB RAM - 160GB HD - PVR-350 for recording cable TV - Geforce FX5200 for s-video output to TV I just added an PVR-150MCE to my system because I want to attach the SkyBox to MythTV. I was able to get a picture of the SkyBox Input on my TV but not thru MythTV. How do I have to define the channels when the Input is comming from the composite plug of my PVR-150? What I did was defining the the capture card (video0), I also defined a video source (sat_uk) and assigned the video source sat_uk to the capture card video0/composite0 I then tried to add a channel to the channel-editor with choosing sat_uk as the video source but I was not able to tune to this channel. (Of course the SkyBox was running, since I got the picture and sound when I ran mplayer and added the /dev/video0 as source.) I've tried XVMC in 1.0pre6 (1.0pre6a), I didn't get/see any benefit on an up to date FC3 box. You might get better mileage. I'm using the Pundit-R. Composite, S-video and monitor outputs are tested. They work very nicely for us as frontend only machines. Note - I had trouble with Seagate drives from Newegg working with these so I bought some SATA drives from Frys. Hi all! I'm pretty new to Linux and thought I'd give MythTV a try... well, it's been very tough going so far... Some notes: * I got my wireless network card to work with NDISWrapper! * I'm using Debian (Sarge) * My hardware is a (dedicated for MythTV) Duron 900MHz, PVR-350, 200L IR Blaster, 704MB RAM, TI4200 Video card * I am using an external DirecTV (Hughes SD-HBH) box with no ports, so I have to use an IR Blaster. So... * I installed Debian 2.6.8 off of DVD (I downloaded the ISOs). * I was able to get wireless going with NDISWrapper. * I installed MythTV off of the link in the FAQ via the package. Things that are working: * Debian - In general * PVR-350 IR Receiver - I can send remote codes to MythTV * Video Out - I don't think I have any nVidia drivers loaded, so output via the video card itself is pretty choppy. When I go video out through the PVR-350, it's a breeze. * Recording - It records fine... on one channel anyhow. Things that are not working: * IR Blaster - I have the Actisys 200L, but I haven't gotten it to work yet. I want to use the Hauppage remote to control my DirecTV box. I am guessing that I need to train this remote first then use that file for outputting commands. I'm not quite sure how to do this. I'm not sure if this IR Blaster will even work with my DirecTV box, but I'm hoping it will! * Channels Changing on MythTV - Kind of related, but basically, I think I'm trying to use MythTV to change channels when I shouldn't be. Channels stop at around 125. Since I'm going through an external tuner, I'm not sure how to turn off this feature and work an external tuner. * Permissions - I'm not sure (being new to Linux) what user to install what parts under. As it is, everything is installed under Root! This is bad. Anyhow, any suggestions would be helpful. Is anyone running a similar setup (i.e. using an Actisys 200L) to control a DirecTV box? Can anyone recommend a web cam that works well with MythPhone without a lot of messing around with kernel hacks? I've got a Logitech quickcam pro 4000, which I've gotten to work with a 2.6.10 kernel and the pwc-10.0.7a driver, but it hangs MythPhone when I end a call. I have been running MythTV for eight months and have a volume issue that I have not been able to resolve. The volume out from MythTV is considerably louder then any other device I have. Setting the amp volume to 1 for Myth is about the same as 7 or 8 for my DVD player. This means that nudging the volume up as tad can move the sound from inaudible to booming. Not required. Now, the slave is not destined to be on all the time, but when something is recorded on the slave, the master won't be able to get to it unless the slave is actually on and running. Is there a way to move the file into the recordings folder of the master and have the master recognize this fact? Or is this automatic? I'm really confused about how all of this should work and could use some direction. To get this behavior, you have to use the NFS approach you tried above. Im definately not an expert, but I have been using mythtv for about 2 years now, and I run a multiple slave setup. On my setup, each slave has its own local storage and I have them all record locally. I then use nfs to map the local drives on my master so everything is visible to everyone. I think your best bet here is to have a unique folder for each of your slaves. So you said you have /video/ for your master, go ahead and make /video_s1/ for your slave. Then for each additional slave, make /video_s2/, etc. Since everything is being stored on the master, you should be all set on this point. If however you were storing the slave recordings local. Do the same thing, except make sure your path on your master and the slave match exactly. So if you have /video_s1/ on the slave, NFS mount that directory on your master as /video_s1/. I remember when I was first setting up my master/slave config, I had the slave writing data to my master. My master had a 900gb partition, so this setup made sense. I had about a few hundred gb free. The problem was that when I connected the slave, mythtv took my free space and doubled it because it saw that the master had 200gb free and so did the slave, giving me a total of 400gb free, when in reality, both were sharing the drive. Maybe this issue has been fixed, but I didnt like the setup, so I decided to distribute my storage. Now I have 1 master with 1tb, 1 slave with 1tb, and a 2nd slave with .5tb. I'll mention the ultimate goal here: I want to capture part of a recorded program, and make that part a separate file that I can play over and over again. It's the Bettye Lavette song from Letterman, Little Sparrow. Maybe commercial_cut isn't the best tool to accomplish the ultimate goal, but I have no experience, -none-, trying to edit recorded programs, and commercial_cut looks like it might work. I'm seeing basically this same behavior..At first, XvMC will fail, XVMC_DEBUG gives me an Authentication Failed error.If I keep re-trying mplayer, eventually XvMC will successfully start, and it will work with other apps after that until I reboot. This has been reported as bug with Nvidia Cards on the AMD64 platform. I currently have an SA 3250 STB and just recently got a linux compatible firewire card for capture. I'm curious if anyone could tell me where the Firewire port is on their STB. The only thing I have even close to it is on the front of my box, and it looks more like a USB port. I just got off the phone with Time Warner after about 30 minutes of them continually telling me my box had a firewire port, and that it was a USB-Firewire connection on the front of the box, and then I finally gave up on this poor unintelligent soul. I'm assuming the firewire port should be on the back of the cable box along with all the other input and output connectors. Any assistance anyone could give would be helpful, as I'd really like to get this up and running, especially if anyone knows of a schematic on the net that shows the various ports on the SA 3250. Sorry. This is erroranous data. Somehow the recording may not have stopped when I thought I had stopped it. When I press R/r while in live tv viewing mode, mythtv will respond by saying Recording ... and fades away. No icons or any info are displayed showing tv is actively being recorded.(Think I'm finding out later, mythtv schedules the entire 30 minute + section for recording or something, but I usually find pressing R/r not doing any recording.) Pressing R/r again, simply shows Recording ... again. From mythtv documentation, R or r should toggle start/stop recording. (cycles through types?) It looks as if the default 480x480 profile is being used, but mythtv is just recording @ 720 x 480 (the output resolution of /dev/v4l/video0). Which is just fine and dandy by me until I want to save disk space by reducing the resolution. MY MAIN QUESTION HERE: From the looks of it, mythtv does not transcode while recording at the same time -- Or it is not possible with this hardware (external usb mpeg2 tv card)? I can see however, mythtv will execute a script/transcode after recording has stopped. (Think I'll just spend the day with tinkering with mythtv. I did a software hack on my Xbox running Xebian 1.2. I do recall a sound issue and there was a setting allowing me to change from Digital to ?? not sure if it was Alsa or not but I recall the system thought it was digital sound with a fresh install. The sound device in the X-box has no mixer, so in order to make ALSA work you have to disable internal mixing in myth. You also need a good .asoundrc and instead of selecting /dev/dsp in audio you have to write ALSA:(device from asoundrc) Good luck! You'll need to have the backend set up with a consistent IP address (either static or permanently assigned via DHCP). Then all you should need to do is go through the setup screens on the Mac client, properly specifying the backend address as needed. [mythtv-users] BT848 no audio, /dev/dsp is working fine.
Just updated my box to knoppmyth R5A16, with Myth 0.18.1. I have two PVR-250's and a BT848 card in the box. I'm getting nothing recorded on the BT848 card, even though I can unmute the line-in and get audio. Myth apparently isn't recording from line in, even though capture is set on the line-in. I've double checked with aplay /dev/dsp and /dev/dsp0 and get the usual output, like it should be recording, and have verified that my tuner card setup is set to capture on /dev/dsp. Also tried /dev/dsp0, with no change. When I originally set up the machine, I only set up the two pvr-250 cards, leaving the BT848 un-initialized in myth. (IE, I didn't set the card up in setup) Then finished setup and ran myth for a couple days. Then added the last card. My question is, is there a setting in the mysql database that would be causing a problem with audio input on the new card definition? Should ALL three cards be setup at the same time? There were some logistical reasons for doing it the way I did, and it would be somewhat of a hassle to dump my current recordings right now to reinstall. [mythtv-users] MythPhone hang with quickcam 4000 solved
It turns out that the problem I was having with mythphone hanging on exit was not due to my quickcam 4000 or the qwc driver, at least not directly. The problem was that the needed alsa modules were not loaded. I had to build a vanilla kernel in order to support win4lin and had not configured alsa support for usb devices properly and that hung up mythphone on exit. I have a master and slave backend, and one frontend. [mythtv-users] Some Suggestions for MythTV
All, Since, for my budget, I was unable to make MythTV wife-proof, as it has been called here, (actually, I was unable even to make it work at all), I thought I would give some suggestions that will help others looking to make a MythBox more successful. So, here it goes First, if you want your computer to be next to a TV, then you have a few options: a) Dont care about the noise and the look of a computer outside of your Entertainment Center (any spot in an entertainment center with less than the front and back removed will make the computer heat up too much. b) Be ready to modify your entertainment center to allow for plenty of air circulation. c) Get a VERY cool box with VERY quiet fans with VERY quiet hard drives. It would be very difficult to spend too much money on quiet hardware for the Myth box. Secondly, you should probably not try to use your Myth box for standard computing, UNLESS, a) You dont care about actually reading text. This goes for both HDTVs and Standard Television sets. Normally, you can read the text if you have standard out, but this is simply because the text is so big and the resolution so bad. Keep in mind that Standard TVs only have around 525 scanlines (something like a 480 visible vertical pixel dimension). This is probably unacceptable for most people trying to double the Myth box with standard computing. The only way to actually get a decent resolution is to modulate the high resolution to a NTSC signal. This can be done using a standard RF Modulator (usually used for changing video inputs from digital [svideo, composite, etc] to analog [coax RF]). However, if you do this, you will not be able to read the text on screen (unless it is scaled larger like Myth does in its frontend). With HDTV, while much sharper, many TVs only support 720p which is also much lower resolution than most people are used to. This lets you use the HDTV to do standard computing (like word processing, etc), but you are very limited on screen real estate. Just dont be surprised if you cant double the Myth box as a computing station. b) You have something like VNC that you can use to remote into the box. However, this requires another computer, so it kind of defeats the purpose. c) You set up the computer, connect it to a Monitor (Variable sync rates) and keyboard and make the primary setup be used for standard computing. You can still hook up your cable or antenna to it and use it to record video. The recorded video / live tv could then be watched on the monitor or over a network to a computer that can be hooked up to a TV. With that said, if you are dedicating the box to be *just* a Myth box (and nothing else), youll probably be alright, but be prepared for some work. If you arent using KnoppMyth, or something similar (which is curious, because KnoppMyth didnt set up the pcHDTV 3000 card correctly either), then expect some work ahead of you. Most of the hardware that I got seemed to work well and without problems. I did struggle with the Chaintech AV-710 7.1 Surround Sound card, but most people on this list seemed to have an easy time with it. Also, I was using the pcHDTV card to capture TV. A few suggestions Fedora Core 3 compiled and loaded the pcHDTV V4L drivers without a problem. This was also true for Suse 9.2 and Suse 9.3. However, for whatever reason, while I could record video with the bundled command line utility for the pcHDTV, I could not get MythTV to recognize the device correctly. With Fedora Core 4, the DVB drivers were included with the distro and were much easier to get working the the V4L drivers, mostly due to the fact that MythTV actually recognized them. Also, I was using the ndiswrapper package with a D-LINK Extreme G PCI Wireless card (and the latest D-LINK driver) and I was able to 108 Mbps wireless. This was great, because I could basically watch LiveTV, DVD, even some HDTV over the wireless network (but not in Myth). Anyway, my plans for my Myth box is still to keep Myth running but set it up as a standard computer that runs the Myth backend so that video can record, but if I want to watch Live TV it will have to be on the monitor not my 32 HDTV. If I want to watch a recorded video, I can watch it on the monitor, or I can copy the recording to a USB 2.0 external harddrive (2.5), plug it in to my laptop, connect my laptop to the HDTV and be ready to watch. So, while I am not decommissioning my Myth box, I am changing its place in the house away from the entertainment center and into the office. I've searched through the archives and tried running: `xvattr -a XV_COLORKEY -v 0` but it didn't work. Is there anything else I can try? I am capturing with a Happauge PVR-250 and outputting with a nVidia GeForce 3, running FC3. [mythtv-users] MythTV refuses to run SUID
I have been trying to get MythTV to run SUID for a couple days now but it simply refuses to. The log always shows 2005-08-04 17:38:33.495 Realtime priority would require SUID as root. I've always had this working in the past, and I've done nothing different with this installation with the exception of having a slightly more up-to-date version of MythTV, and probably some updated system packages. I am running SVN R6990 on Gentoo, with kernel 2.6.12-gentoo-r7 (I just tried 2.6.12-gentoo-r4 because I thought that's what I had last time with this machine, but I get the same results). I've tried numerous variations of chmod even though I know the way I've always done it is rightthese include: chmod +s /usr/bin/mythfrontend /usr/bin/mythtv chmod u+s /usr/bin/mythfrontend /usr/bin/mythtv chmod a+s /usr/bin/mythfrontend /usr/bin/mythtv chmod 4755 /usr/bin/mythfrontend /usr/bin/mythtv The permissions do get set right, as I can see them with ls. Is there anything else in the system that could possibly have an effect on the SUID bit? Is this possibly a MythTV bug that I should file? Looking through the archives I noticed that others have had this problem in the past, but have come up with no solution other than workarounds like running mythfrontend as root, renicing it, or running it using sudo. One mentioned removing the line in mythfrontend.cpp that says setuid(getuid()), but this is an unacceptable hack in my opinion, if it even actually works, and should be treated as a bug. I also saw someone mention that the feature was disabled entirely in .17, but I don't believe this because it worked fine fairly recently. Finally, I saw a post saying some newer distros/kernels disallow SUID or something, like RedHat with it's SELinux stuff. I have no SELinux kernel or anything related to it installed on this system. In other words, you found the right solution in the archives, so if it doesn't work, it's probably a case of user error, but without knowing what you tried, it's hard to guess what the problem is. BTW, I recommend using some color other than 0--i.e. 10 or 30 or even 1. It's a much more proper solution--unfortunately, the vote-by-number-of-Google-results system says that 0 is correct. [mythtv-users] Myth menus are not displayed properly
Hi, I am trying to run mythtv application on a minimal filesystem that I have created .But on running mythfrontend, the menus are not displayed properly. Instead of the charecters, only square boxes gets displayed. But the pictures on the right side of the screen and the background (for GANT) gets displayed properly. SInce i have installed only a limited no: of packages I am not sure I have missed some packges specific to the display of the charecters for the mythtv menu. Has anyone faced such a problem. I installed myth 0.18.1 using install help from http://bit.blkbk.com/ (0.4.5-beta) on a xebian 1.1.0 xbox. I followed a previous post's instructions where the only change I had to make was setting Audio Output Device to /dev/dsp. No volume control in mythtv, but I have sound. Concerning some of the posts about HW vs. SW mod. I found the info on www.xbox-linux.org a little dated in regards to the SW mod instructions. I actually bought a mod chip after unsuccessfully attempting a SW mod using the www.xbox-linux.org instructions. By the time my mod chip arrived, I found other more up to date instructions to accomplish the SW mod on almost any xbox no matter what HW version or Dashboard version. Didn't work as in the command ran fine, said it updated the value properly but the blue bar is still at the bottom of the screen. If the command gave an error I don't think I would assume there was something wrong with that solution, but that I need to keep working until the command no longer gave an error. I also tried setting it to a few other values, including 10 and 30 with no luck. So my questions is, could there be another problem or a different solution to the suspected problem? I think I can shed some light on this, being that I'm the person who has been working on the driver for the pvrusb2 device for the past 6 months... See below. MY MAIN QUESTION HERE: From the looks of it, mythtv does not transcode while recording at the same time -- Or it is not possible with this hardware (external usb mpeg2 tv card)? I can see however, mythtv will execute a script/transcode after recording has stopped. Transcoding in mythtv happens in a second stage, after the recording is completed. I installed myth 0.18.1 using install help from http://bit.blkbk.com/ (0.4.5-beta) on a xebian 1.1.0 xbox. I followed a previous post's instructions where the only change I had to make was setting Audio Output Device to /dev/dsp. No volume control in mythtv, but I have sound. Concerning some of the posts about HW vs. SW mod. I found the info on www.xbox-linux.org a little dated in regards to the SW mod instructions. I actually bought a mod chip after unsuccessfully attempting a SW mod using the www.xbox-linux.org instructions. By the time my mod chip arrived, I found other more up to date instructions to accomplish the SW mod on almost any xbox no matter what HW version or Dashboard version. I then followed the http://bit.blkbk.com/ instructions. Then I used some evolutions dashboard tutorial instructions on xbox-scene.com on how to start the linux install w/o needing the boot CD. Now I have a stable and cheap frontend. Hope that helps. [mythtv-users] Monitor CD - Fedora Core
I have just about all of Myth working except for the detecting of cd/dvd when inserted into the drive. I have the checkbox set in settings and have tried to modify the fstab file per Jerod's directions. Problem is everytime I reboot udev seems to rewrite fstab so the settings are changed back. Has anyone gotten this to work? Thanks! Either turn off debugging if it is turned on (in /etc/modprobe.conf), or revert to an earlier version of the ivtv driver if possible and see if this stops the problem. An improvement over my previous post is to change $days_to_grab to 7 and use
the included patch. This gets a full 7 days of data, which is all ninemsn
has.

[mythtv-users] Where does MythTV handle Closed Captioning when using a PVR-350?
Closed Captioning is not working properly for me with MythTV and a PVR-350, and I'm trying to figure out whether the problem lies with the MythTV code or in the ivtv (and associated) drivers. The problem is that CC is turned off when MythTV jumps (as in a commercial break) and is not turned back on after the jump. CC turns off, but never turns back on. I tried looking through the saa7127 and MythTV code, but I'm not a c++ programmer and can't really follow how it all works. I would ask on the mythtv-dev list but I'm having trouble subscribing to it. [mythtv-users] unable to play video on frontend (but dvd works).
Hi Folks, I'm building my first mythbox, gentoo linux, pvr-350, nvidia geforce mx4000. I have run into an issue that I have been unable to find an answer to. I can playback dvd's, record tv shows, but when I try to or watch live tv or playback recorded shows my mythfrontend complains that it is unable to initialise video. I have included is the output from the mythfrontend console at the end of this email[1]. I noticed the following message in the console output: IVTV_IOC_GET_FB: Invalid argument Which would make me suspect that something is wrong with ivtv, but I can play my recordings using mplayer, and I can also watch the live mpeg streams[2] with it, so I guess my ivtv setup is ok? As I mentioned earlier the frontend is able to play back dvd's, so I don't think its an issue with the video card. Can anyone suggest what I might investigate or do as a next step? Should I just move on and start configuring myth to use the PVR-350's tv-out capability? BTW I'm currently launching the frontend under a gnome session. Use the PVR-350's TV out / MPEG decoder MythTV can use the PVR-350's TV out and MPEG decoder for high quality playback. This requires that the ivtv-fb kernel module is also loaded and configured properly.
