Re: [mythtv-users] DVB on ATrpms mythtv-suite

2005-08-07 Thread Phill Edwards
I've been using the precompiled mythtv-suite provided by ATrpms with my
 analog TV tuner.
And now I'm trying to upgrade to DVB. Now does it actually support DVB? My
 mythtvsetup
channel editor does not look at all like this:
 http://www.ethics-gradient.net/myth/images/chaned_dvb.jpg . Instead it looks
 like the
 analog channel editor...?

So I have to compile mythtv myself to get it working?

 Mythbackend says:
005-08-05 17:28:02.012 DVB#0 ERROR - Could not find dvb tuning parameters for
 transport 0
2005-08-05 17:28:02.013 DVB#0 ERROR - Failed to get channel options for
 channel 3.

Using the latest mythtv-suite and 2.6.11-1.1369_FC4.

I'm using the ATRPM binaries but for FC3. These definitely support
DVB. To get the screenshot you posted you have to click one of the
buttons in the channel editor screen. It might be Advanced or
something like that - I can't quite remember which one it is. There
should be 2 buttons at the bottom of the channel editor screen - it's
one of them. I've heard reports of some people not seeing them as
they're hidden off the bottom of the screen on some setups. Perhaps if
you access it via VNC or X11VNC you might be able to see them then, if
that's the problem.

Phill

[mythtv-users] DVB OTA EPG for HDTV Channels in Australia (Canberra)

2005-08-07 Thread Matthew Carle
Hi,

I am using an internet grabber for the SD channels but since only a few
things are actually broadcast in HD, I thought it would be better to try to
use the DVB on air guide for the HD ones.

I selected the use on air guide setting in mythtvsetup but nothing is
showing up (after watching the channel for a few minutes). I don't own a STB
so I don't know for sure that EPG data exists (in Canberra). Is there
anything else I need to configure. I assume it's possible to use a grabber
for some channels and OTA EPG for others?

It's running FC3 with atrpms install.

Thanks,
Matthew.

RE: [mythtv-users] DVB OTA EPG for HDTV Channels in Australia (Canberra)

2005-08-07 Thread Matthew Carle
Canberra is behind the other capitals with HDTV. Most of the time the
commercial stations are playing demo loops with the occasional show (maybe 5
hours per day). I can't see any way to tell what is in HD without trying to
watch it. I was hoping the OTA EPG would help with this.

Doesn't sound too good though.

Thanks,
Matthew

 a) Is the content broadcast different between SD and HD? Here in
 melbourne it's exactly the same.

 b) Again, here in melbourne, the broadcast EPG is useless.
They only broadcast the CURRENT show info. Nothing in the future so it
 can't be used for scheduling.

I'd just try using the regular SD channel grabber.

Re: [mythtv-users] QuickTime-compatible or even H.264

2005-08-07 Thread Phill Edwards
Hey, I've finally got my mythTV setup running, and it is a very cool
thing. However, I am wondering how I can convert the Nuppel Video
recordings to something QuickTime compatible, preferably H.264. Is
this possible? Can I get it to do this by default?

Don't know, but you could have a look at nuxexport which can produce
various different formats. It may not produce .mov files but I think
it could produce formats that can be played by the QuickTime player
(if that's what you want).

[mythtv-users] PAL-I problem

2005-08-07 Thread Steve Wesemeyer
Hiya,

I have just about finished setting up my own MythTV PVR but for one small
niggling problem and I can't seem to be able to get round it.

The set-up uses 32-bit Kanotix (2005-03) running on an AMD 64 300+, with
MythTV 0.18.1 debs provided by http://dijkstra.csh.rit.edu/~mdz/debian.

I have a Hauppauge Primio WinTV PCI-FM (cx8800) card and it works great when
watching LiveTV. However, as I live in the UK which uses PAL-I I need to
manually set v4lctl setnorm PAL-I when I first start-up mythfrontend.
That's no problem when I boot up the machine as I just stuck it into a small
shell-script in the .kde/Autostart directory.
So watching TV is no problem. However, I have yet to manage to get a proper
recording. MythBackend insists on changing the PAL norm back to BG
and so it starts recording the picture ok but obviously not the sound
(effectively it just records white noise/static due to the difference in
audio channels in PAL-I and BG).
I have a small cron-script that checks every minute the status of v4lctl to
see whether it needs changing back to PAL-I and that works ok, eg it changes
it back to PAL-I. However, when it executes during a recording, MythTV now
records the correct sound and image, However, the image is not fullscreen
anymore. I tried calling v4lctl fullscreen as part of that cron-script but
it had no effect.

Has anyone else had that problem? And also, does anyone know why PAL-I is not
an option in the MythTV set-up?

Any help would be much appreciated. It's the last missing piece (but sadly the
most important one...)

Cheers,
 Steve

Re: [mythtv-users] New Linux User Attempt...

2005-08-07 Thread Brady
To get MythTV to not chance channels on the tuner you need to define a
script in 'mythtvsetup' for that input. This is the method that I used
when changing channels on my external cable box.

if you do not already have a script you will need to write one or ask
for help writing one =)

On 8/4/05, Viet My [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

 * I'm using Debian (Sarge)
 * My hardware is a (dedicated for MythTV) Duron 900MHz, PVR-350, 200L IR
Blaster, 704MB RAM, TI4200 Video card
 * I am using an external DirecTV (Hughes SD-HBH) box with no ports, so I
have to use an IR Blaster.

 So...

 * I installed Debian 2.6.8 off of DVD (I downloaded the ISOs).
 * I was able to get wireless going with NDISWrapper.
 * I installed MythTV off of the link in the FAQ via the package.

 Things that are working:
 * Debian - In general
 * PVR-350 IR Receiver - I can send remote codes to MythTV
 * Video Out - I don't think I have any nVidia drivers loaded, so output
via the video card itself is pretty choppy. When I go video out through
 the PVR-350, it's a breeze.
 * Recording - It records fine... on one channel anyhow.

 Things that are not working:
 * IR Blaster - I have the Actisys 200L, but I haven't gotten it to work
yet. I want to use the Hauppage remote to control my DirecTV box. I am
guessing that I need to train this remote first then use that file for
outputting commands. I'm not quite sure how to do this. I'm not sure if
this IR Blaster will even work with my DirecTV box, but I'm hoping it
 will!
 * Channels Changing on MythTV - Kind of related, but basically, I think
I'm trying to use MythTV to change channels when I shouldn't be. Channels
stop at around 125. Since I'm going through an external tuner, I'm not
sure how to turn off this feature and work an external tuner.
 * Permissions - I'm not sure (being new to Linux) what user to install
what parts under. As it is, everything is installed under Root! This is
 bad.

Anyhow, any suggestions would be helpful.

Is anyone running a similar setup (i.e. using an Actisys 200L) to control
a DirecTV box? Should I get a different IR Blaster? Anyone using the
Hauppage remote (grey one that came with the PVR-350) to control their
 DirecTV box?

 Thanks!

[mythtv-users] new stuff to understand

2005-08-07 Thread Craig Tinson

Hey All

ok.. so I've been running a myth box for a couple of years now I think -
and over this time I've learnt quite a bit about how myth works and
learnt even more about linux!

over this time I've got through various pieces of kit for upgrades - new
mb, more memory, more hd etc etc..

now I've made a *big* difference - I've switched from a 878 based card
to a new PVR-250.

it's taken a week or so for me to get this thing running and I've
continued to learn a few things about how these cards work but it's been
*really* worth it - I thought I had the 878 card working near original
source quality but hell, this is now damn perfect and the quality is
amazing.

i'm still having a few problems in terms of stability of the
machine/myth but I need to look into things further to provide more info.

so - to the purpose of this email.

I never got my head around transcoding as I figured I never needed to
with the old card. now I'm recording with the 250 I figured I'd better
know more about this transcoding thing.

what is it? why does it matter? how will it affect how I use my mythbox?
is there settings I need to know about? am I right in thinking it's more
of an issue now I'm on a 250?

I have mtd running as a daemon on startup but I don't know what it's
there for! lol

can someone shed light?

thanks

[mythtv-users] Xbox install via http://bit.blkbk.com scripts, does it show progress?

2005-08-07 Thread David Whyte
Guys,

I am trying to install MythTV on my Xbox but have run into (another)
roadblock. I forgot to read ahead properly and instead of installing
Xebian via Dennis' scripts, I went and did it myself from the live CD.

Now, when I was looking at installing Myth, I was told (thanks Phill

at the doco on the site and the actual scripts, I could probably skip
the bootstrap mode and go straight to the MythTV install but when I do
the ./install.pl -c script, I get no apparent progress and the process
seems to just sit there :|

Am I doing something wrong? Is it working and just not showing it?
Have I screwed up because I installed Xebian by myself.

I think so. From what I understand, the PVR-250 encodes in MPEG2 which
means good quality but big files. So you can set up a transcoding rule
for each profile which will run automatically at the end of each
recording. The transcoding rule can automatically convert your MPEG2
recording to MPEG4 or RTJPEG. MPEG4 is the smallest. You'll sacrifice
some quality, depending on what settings you use, but the file sizes
will be a lot smaller. Your previous bt878 card probably already
recorded in MPEG4 so it wasn't an issue then. You set this all up in
the recording profiles screen.

I have mtd running as a daemon on startup but I don't know what it's

I think this is needed if you're going to rip DVDs or CDs.

Hey Whytey - me again! When you run it does it return to the command

2005-08-07 Thread Andy Foster
Hey,

I thought I'd give 1.32 a go as whatever the other script I'm using
hasn't worked for a week (I've long since given up trying to keep
track of what's out there :), so I generated a config file for
Brisbane, and it works fine with slow = 0. However with slow 1 (after
deleting the cached.pl made with slow=0, or it will ignore the new
slow=1 directive - not sure if this is intentional behaviour but it
baffled me for a bit), the script spits out a stack of:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] .xmltv $ ./tv_grab_au
grabbing 5 days into /tmp/tv_grab_au/guide.xml
Use of uninitialized value in split at ./tv_grab_au line 440, line 1.

Use of uninitialized value in string eq at ./tv_grab_au line 444, line 1.
channel mismatch for 'Rage' (pid = 12396671)

I tried looking at the code but I'm not familiar with perl at all so
all I saw was the matrix.. The contents of @td seems to be malformed
however:
- Fire Engine Evan/Tracy's Candy Catastrophe ~~~ Cartoon ~~~ This
children's program follows the adventures of Jay Jay and his friends
as they take off in search of fun and excitement. ~~~ ~~~

Where ~~~ is my delimeter.

I do recall trying to deal with this problem before, but not getting
anywhere. What might be causing this?

On 8/6/05, Michael Smith [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

The recent problem with the NMSM website (coinciding with pid changes in
Canberra?) has prompted an update to my tv_grab_au. The latest version
is attached and also updated at http://www.immir.com/tv_grab_au.

I've added a (manual) configuration option for program listing
duplication; for example, with the following lines in the config file:

$channels = {
  'ABC ACT' = 'act.abc.gov.au',
  'SBS EASTERN' = 'eastern.sbs.com.au'
};
$duplicate = {
   'act.abc.gov.au' = { 'ABC copy 1'  = 'blah.abc.gov.au',
 'ABC copy 2' = 'rhubarb.abc.gov.au' },
   'eastern.sbs.com.au' = { 'SBS HD' = 'hd.eastern.sbs.com.au' }
};

will duplicate the program information to new channels with specified
names and XMLTV channel ids. (As usual, this is simply perl code, so be
wary of syntax.) The names (eg, 'ABC Copy1') get incorporated into the
XMLTV channel information; AFAIK these values won't be seen in mythtv at
 all.

Hopefully that's flexible enough for most people. (?)

Also, the details url is extracted from the link on the guide page
rather than constructed from the pid value; this should prevent problems
like we all had last week when they change the url format.

 Cheers,
 Michael.

type 'visudo'. This is a special (error checking) instance of vi that
allows editing of the sudo file. The following text helped me run
mythfrontend with realtime priority.

# User privilege specification
rootALL=(ALL) ALL
lisadaveh ALL = NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/mythfrontend

Hope that helps...

I've always had this working in the past, and I've done nothing different with
this installation with the exception of having a slightly more up-to-date
version of MythTV, and probably some updated system packages. I am running
SVN R6990 on Gentoo, with kernel 2.6.12-gentoo-r7 (I just tried
2.6.12-gentoo-r4 because I thought that's what I had last time with this
machine, but I get the same results).

I've tried numerous variations of chmod even though I know the way I've always
 done it is rightthese include:

 chmod +s /usr/bin/mythfrontend /usr/bin/mythtv

 chmod a+s /usr/bin/mythfrontend /usr/bin/mythtv
 chmod 4755 /usr/bin/mythfrontend /usr/bin/mythtv

The permissions do get set right, as I can see them with ls.

Is there anything else in the system that could possibly have an effect on the
SUID bit? Is this possibly a MythTV bug that I should file?

Looking through the archives I noticed that others have had this problem in
the past, but have come up with no solution other than workarounds like
running mythfrontend as root, renicing it, or running it using sudo. One
mentioned removing the line in mythfrontend.cpp that says setuid(getuid()),
but this is an unacceptable hack in my opinion, if it even actually works,
and should be treated as a bug. I also saw someone mention that the feature
was disabled entirely in .17, but I don't believe this because it worked fine
fairly recently. Finally, I saw a post saying some newer distros/kernels
disallow SUID or something, like RedHat with it's SELinux stuff. I have no
SELinux kernel or anything related to it installed on this system.

I'm out of ideas. Any help?

[mythtv-users] Lirc and sound not working after upgrade

2005-08-07 Thread mogens lunde
Approximately every week I do an apt-get update and apt-get
dist-upgrade. After the last of these mythtv could no longer access the
backend server. I found out that the upgrade had changed my directories
from /var/lib/mythtv to /mnt/store, and that I had to alter permissions
in /var/lib/mythtv. After changing back I could restart mythbackend, and
access my stored recordings.

But no sound, and remote not working either :-(
In the mythfrontend log I have these errors:
mythtv: could not connect to socket
mythtv: Connection refused
lirc_init failed for mythtv, see preceding messages.

So I guess that this might be caused by the ugrade having changed some
other permissions, but I simply do not know where to look and what for.

Basically I do not understand for what reasons an upgrade can alter
permissions on already existing files and folders. But I guess there is
some kind of good explanation.

Thanks for any help.

[mythtv-users] Latest SVN pegs my CPU for 720p and 1080i

2005-08-07 Thread David Asher
I just switched over from 0.18.1 atrpms mythtv to building from the
latest svn (changeset 6995, I was hoping to play with the new internal
dvd player).

Mythfrontend now pegs my CPU when playing 720p recordings and I get
frame drops on 1080i recordings.

I've got a 3Ghz Prescott, and under 0.18.1 720p was ~65% CPU, 1080i ~90%
CPU -- no frame drops.

Is anyone else seeing this? I haven't changed anything else X

[mythtv-users] Installing latest Unichrome - problems ?

2005-08-07 Thread Warpme

Hi *

I'm trying to install latest unichrome drivers on my KnoppMyth R5A16.
I downloaded latest Unichrome drivers from http://myth.ivor.org/unichrome/

I follow steps in README file:

The 30 second unichrome install guide.

1. Build drm (for 2.6 kernel)
(Clearly here replace linux-2.6.11 with your source location.)

cd drm/linux-core
make LINUXDIR=/usr/src/linux-2.6.11 DRM_MODULES=via
cp *.ko /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/char/drm/
depmod -ae

2. Build libxvmc
(If building inside an X tree comment out the OUTOFTREE directive in the
Imakefile)

cd libxvmc
xmkmf /usr/src/xc
make
make install

3. Build driver

cd unichrome
xmkmf /usr/src/xc
make
make install

Steep 1 is already done.

When I try to do steep 2, I receive info:
./usr/src/xc. no such directory.
Indeed, in /usr/src/ there is no XC directory.

I suspect, some source files are missing on my HDD - can somebody point
me what is missing, and where I can find it ?

[mythtv-users] debug options for mythtvsetup?

2005-08-07 Thread Vince Busam
mythtvsetup 0.18.1 hangs with a screen that shows just the theme's
background graphic. Are there any debug options I can turn on to help track
down the problem?

After a year of so of using Myth on FC1 (0.16.x I think), I had a weekend of
irrationality and decided to do a clean install of FC4 and Myth 0.18.1 (from
atrpms) using Jarod's wonderful guide. Oh well, live and learn.

Before cleaning my hard disk, I made a backup of the mythconverg DB. I
restored the DB before installing Myth. The first time I ran mythtvsetup I
saw messages about upgrading the DB, then was asked questions about clearing
capture card settings (I said yes), clear program data and channel settings
(I said yes). Then the problem occurs. mythtvsetup just hangs forever.
The screen shows the theme background but nothing else. I can't ctrl-alt-Fx
to another window. Luckily, I can ssh in from another system but killing
mythtvsetup doesn't restore my system; I've ended up rebooting. The same
hang occurs every time I've retried mythtvsetup.

- don't see any error messages in /var/log/messages or /var/log/mythtv/
- mythtv userid and mythtv in MySQL have different passwords.
- I'm running mythtvsetup under KDE, logged in as user mythtv.
- mythtvsetup --help doesn't show any debug options
- didn't see this problem in a search of the archives or a web search

Thanks,
Vince

I have a PVR-350 and I don't use transcoding as well. Disk space is

I just get a little audio stuttering on my 3.2 prescott, but skipping forward
and back seems to fix it. Latest alsa-1.0.9b stuff. Seems like some kinda
buffer issue but I haven't found a way to fix it yet.

The only other wierdness I see is when both pcHDTV HD-3000's are recording at
the same time and I'm watching something, after about 20 minutes of recording,
my CPU pegs at 80% or so, even when I shutdown viewing, it won't clear. Th
cx88atsc driver reports a buffer overflow at the same time the CPU pegging
starts. This doesn't happen if I'm watching through a remote frontend, only
if I'm watching on the master doing the recording.

[mythtv-users] nvidia-settings w/geforce4 ti4200

2005-08-07 Thread shadestalker
Possibly OT (if there's an nvidia-settings list I haven't found it yet).

I have mythtv working on a debian sarge install. Until recently I was
happily using the PVR-350 TV out, but I recently freed up a geforce 4
ti4200 and want to use its TV out for the ability to play transcoded
videos without frame dropping, etc.

After finding Jarod's recommendation for nvidia-settings to be used
against newer nvidia drivers, I tried it. So far I am only able to
turn overscan fully on (too much) or fully off (obviously not
desirable for watching TV) using the slider. I've tried adding and
removing the TVOverScan directive from XF86Config-4, commenting out
the refresh rates for the TV, etc.

nvidia-settings reports my TV chip as a Brooktree 871. I hope that's
not the problem, I don't have another recent geforce lying around to
work with.

Yes, I put four (4) 300GB drives in my mythtv box. Built a 1TB file
system for the /video file system using LVM.

Getting ready to build another mythtv box. Next one will be used as a
frontend and slave backend to the existing system. Researching which
micro ATX board or acpi board to use for such a front end.

But I would be interested in learning more about how transcoding works
and how it might be beneficial.

So how do I verify that I've set this up correctly?

2005-08-07 Thread jacko
I have come to a point where I am running out of space on my /dev/hda
due to the amount of video I have recorded (only 80 gigs). I would
like to add a new 160g HD to my system but lack the know how to add a
disk to an XFS partition in FC2. I found a good tutorial for FC3 off
of Jarod's site. Should this be the same FC2? If so, can someone
explain what VolGroup00 is when using vgextend?

[mythtv-users] PVR 350, just static

2005-08-07 Thread Peter Osterberg
Hi,

I'm trying to setup a box using Knoppmyth and a PVR350 card.

I get picture but just static.

I've tryied the following while having LiveTV running, run ivtvctl -R,
and run scantv in parallell.

When I just run ivtvctl -R it responds with saying that frequency is set
to 0 even though I've hard coded the channel number for two channels in
mythtv-setup. I stays at 0 whatever channel i switch to.

So I let it run while letting scantv perform a full scan. When I do this
I get variations in the static and sometimes I even get something that
could become a picture with some luck :-).

I've also tried to run mplayer /dev/video0 while performing a scan with
scantv with almost the same result. The static shows up a bit
differently but it almost becomes a picture at the same frequencies.

So I guess that I have got two issues. One, no clear picture, there
should be one since I get picture on a regular TV using the same antenna
cable. Two, MythTV keeps setting my card to frequency 0 whenever I
change channel. It does at least set my card to input from Tuner 0, I
can see that when I run ivtvctl -P.

Anyone? Please! :-)

Sincerely,
Peter Österberg

What is your output device?
Do you have an input source set up?
Have you run mythfilldatabase or edited the frequency into the DB?

Also, what distro and what software versions?

Re: [mythtv-users] Blue bar at bottom of all video

2005-08-07 Thread Marshall Crocker
I was having the same problem with my pvr-150 and an old GeForce 2. I
think my problem was casued by the ivtv drivers though as I don't have
that problem now with newer drivers. You may want to try updating your
drivers or you could cat /dev/video0 /tmp/test.mpg and then see if
that test capture has the blue line. If it does, its the ivtv drivers,
otherwise it could be something with the xv colorkey.

For the moment I use my regular monitor as output device, ATI Radeon
9600. I get exactly the same picture when I hook it up to a DLP
projector via the ATI card. Haven't tried to connect via the PVR350
card yet.

Knoppmyth Release 5A16, the above is the ones included in this release.

I did set everything up the first time in mythtv-setup, after that did
I run mythfilldatabase, getting channels for Sweden, then I changed the
values for two channels since I have cable TV here and I know that the
channels aren't at the same frequencies. I ran
/etc/cron.daily/myth-backend after I did those changes in myhttv-setup.

I haven't had any peak in the database yet. Is there something
interesting to be found in there or might it be easyier to make the
changes directly in the database? I am very familiar with SQL so it
wouldn't be a problem if you think that it is easyier.

Thank you!!

Re: [mythtv-users] PVR 350, just static

Jim Reith wrote:

Hi,

I'm trying to setup a box using Knoppmyth and a PVR350 card.

I get picture but just static.

I've tryied the following while having LiveTV running, run ivtvctl
-R,
and run scantv in parallell.

When I just run ivtvctl -R it responds with saying that frequency is
set
to 0 even though I've hard coded the channel number for two channels
in
mythtv-setup. I stays at 0 whatever channel i switch to.

So I let it run while letting scantv perform a full scan. When I do
this
I get variations in the static and sometimes I even get something
that
could become a picture with some luck :-).

I've also tried to run mplayer /dev/video0 while performing a scan
with
scantv with almost the same result. The static shows up a bit
differently but it almost becomes a picture at the same
frequencies.

So I guess that I have got two issues. One, no clear picture,
there
should be one since I get picture on a regular TV using the same
antenna
cable. Two, MythTV keeps setting my card to frequency 0 whenever I
change channel. It does at least set my card to input from Tuner 0,
I
can see that when I run ivtvctl -P.

Anyone? Please! :-)

What is your output device?
Do you have an input source set up?
Have you run mythfilldatabase or edited the frequency into the DB?

Also, what distro and what software versions?

For the moment I use my regular monitor
as output device, ATI Radeon 9600. I get exactly the same picture when
I hook it up to a DLP projector via the ATI card. Haven't tried to
connect via the PVR350 card yet.

ivtv 0.2.0
Myth 0.18.1
Knoppmyth Release 5A16, the above is the ones included in this
release.

Same release I started with. I've since added a PVR-150 as a
second tuner and have 350gb of shows on disk. I had to upgrade to ivtv
3.6y to get the 150 working but the 350 worked fine with Knoppmyth
originally I assume you followed this?
http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=HauppaugeThreeFiftyInstallation

I did set everything up the first time in
mythtv-setup, after that did I run mythfilldatabase, getting channels
for Sweden, then I changed the values for two channels since I have
cable TV here and I know that the channels aren't at the same
frequencies. I ran /etc/cron.daily/myth-backend after I did those
changes in myhttv-setup.

I haven't had any peak in the database yet. Is there something
interesting to be found in there or might it be easyier to make the
changes directly in the database? I am very familiar with SQL so it
wouldn't be a problem if you think that it is easyier.

You don't need to modify the SQL db. There is a channel editor
that will let you make the settings. Since I was able to get my
listings online, I didn't have to do any of that and it worked.

Your 350 is Pal I assume? I can share with you my 2.0 working
ivtv

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc/mythtv/modules# cat ivtv.350only
alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-61 lirc_i2c
#options ivtv debug=1
#options tuner type=2
options msp3400 simple=1
install ivtv /sbin/modprobe tuner; /sbin/modprobe msp3400;
/sbin/modprobe saa7115; /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install ivtv;
/sbin/modprobe ivtv-fb; /sbin/modprobe lirc_i2c
remove ivtv /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove ivtv
/sbin/modprobe -r saa7115 /sbin/modprobe -r msp3400
/sbin/modprobe -r tuner /sbin/modprobe -r ivtv-fb
/sbin/modprobe -r lirc_i2c

I really think your problem probably lies in your input settings
for your source, your cable. I don't think you have the channel
frequencies set properly and so, while it works, it's not tuned to
anything. Maybe someone successful in Sweden can chime in with at
least one known good cable frequency?

hope this helps some.

Jim

Thank you!!

Re: [mythtv-users] new stuff to understand

2005-08-07 Thread Robin Gilks

 Hey All

ok.. so I've been running a myth box for a couple of years now I think -
and over this time I've learnt quite a bit about how myth works and
 learnt even more about linux!

over this time I've got through various pieces of kit for upgrades - new
mb, more memory, more hd etc etc..

 now I've made a *big* difference - I've switched from a 878 based card
 to a new PVR-250.

it's taken a week or so for me to get this thing running and I've
continued to learn a few things about how these cards work but it's been
*really* worth it - I thought I had the 878 card working near original
source quality but hell, this is now damn perfect and the quality is
 amazing.

i'm still having a few problems in terms of stability of the
machine/myth but I need to look into things further to provide more info.

so - to the purpose of this email.

I have mtd running as a daemon on startup but I don't know what it's
 there for! lol

 can someone shed light?

 thanks

 Craig

Hi Craig

I would imagine that the 878 card would record with a disk burn rate of
about 4G per hour (thats what I get) whereas the PVR card, being mpeg2
should be a quarter of that (about 1G per hour). By transcoding to mpeg4,
that can be further reduced, without loosing much quality, to about 300M
per hour. Its all about balancing CPU cycles against diskspace!

 http://svn.wilsonet.com/projects/mythtvology/ticket/87

The VolGroup00 is the name of the lvm volume group. If you have the
xfs partition directly on /dev/hda - you have to first convert that to
lvm. I'm not sure what's your current setup is (ie - do you have a
single partition for the /, or do you use /dev/hda as a part of the
lvm volume).
The best way to learn something about lvm is to have a look in the howto:
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/LVM-HOWTO/
If you don't have lvm and want to convert to one the easies way is to
add the new drive as first phisical volume of lvm, create a single
logical volume on top of that, format it using xfs and then copy files
over from the old partition/disk. When everything is on the new drive
- add the old drive/partition as next phisical volume and then extend
the logical one to span across both drives.

Any suggestions appreciated.

2005-08-07 Thread Michael Cheshire \(Mailing Lists\)

Dont know if anyone else has answered this but:

The msn grabber gets MUCH more data than the d1 does.

When I tried d1, it didnt give episode information for example, so if you
record a tv servies then myth doesnt know enough about the episode to tell
if it has recorded that particular episode before.

Is the ninmsn grabber better than the d1.com.au ? If so do you know
where I could download it from. Also a clue on how to install if time
permits.

anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

There's a bug in the automatic audio track selection logic. You'll
need to manually select the proper audio track until .18.2 comes out.

I've been getting odd sound video *only* during Eastenders (BBC1,
BBC3). This has been for the last month, and seemed to conside (or nearly
coincide) with my upgrade from 0.17 to 0.18.1.

The oddities are very glitchy sound (stop-start, every 0.5s ish) and video
(normal/slow speed every 0.5s ish). It happens during recordings and
 watch live tv.

I have no idea what to look for. It's really odd - it tends to coincide
with the start of the Eastenders lead-in (~20:00 on BBC1) and probably
finish around 20:30 (doesn't necessarily coincide with the actual end of
 Eastenders).

Does any of this sound like something you were seeing, james, or
something that could get fixed in 0.18.2? It seems odd that it should
coincide with a single programme, and be repeatable (the problem
survives mythtv restarts and, I think, reboots).

As mentioned previously, the problem I am having is due to audio (the
video glitches are due to mythtv trying to keep the video and audio in
sync).

I am still getting this. I tried increasing RAM (from the previous 256MB
to 512MB) this week, in case it was a swap problem. The system is now
not swapping, but the glitches are still there.

The audio problems have been continuously happening in Eastenders (BBC1),
and have randomly happened with a few other channels (including for
CSI Miami on Channel5). Most recently (last 3-ish weeks) it has also
occurred during the reruns of 24 (BBC1, Friday circa 23:45 for a
couple of hours).

Any other thoughts?

Cheers

Re: [mythtv-users] tv_grab_au which script?

Michael, could you please clarify the example duplicate config entry for me?

#''ABC ACT' = 'act.abc.gov.au'
#$duplicate = {
# 'act.abc.gov.au' = { 'ABC HD' = 'hd.abc.gov.au',
# 'ABC CHAN 22' = '22.abc.gov.au' },
#   'eastern.sbs.com.au' = { 'SBS HD' = 'hd.eastern.sbs.com.au' }
#};

'ABC ACT' is the corresponding channel title of the tv guide.

Why is 'ABC HD' and 'ABC CHAN 22' needed? They don't correspond with
the channel titles of the tv guide. Can those values be set to an
arbitary string?

Thanks heaps,

[mythtv-users] Trouble with WinTV 401 Hauppage Card and LIRC (should be easy to answer)

2005-08-07 Thread Jason Mcmillon
I am trying to get my MythTV frontend remote working. I have

backend wonderfully using my keyboard. I have installed a Hauppauge
WinTV 401 into the machine in hopes of getting its IR receiver to play
with LIRC. I have installed lirc and lirc-kmdl via apt-get install.

Now my biggest question is what do I put into my /etc/modprobe.conf ?

I have tried:
alias char-major-61 lirc_gpio

and
alias char-major-61 hauppauge

It's my understanding that Axel's RPM are packaged for the most
popular receivers. Is mine not included?

I have even tried building lirc from source but I get the following errors:

$ ./setup.sh
which: no dialog in
(/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/home/mythtv/bin)
dialog not found!

So, I am stuck.

[mythtv-users] Max number of recordings - unexpected episode deletions

2005-08-07 Thread Timothy G. Schaefer

I've come across two scenarios and I was wondering if others thought this
was normal, or If I maybe made a wrong choice for a setting buried deeply
somewhere.
1) If I lower the max number of recordings, MythTV will chug along and
start deleting the oldest episodes to match the number of max recordings.
To me it seems like it this limit should only affect recording new shows,
not deleting to maintain this number. This seems to be regardless of the
checkbox for auto expire, This also is independent of
harddrive space as I have well over 100GB free, and I think I have set to
maintain at least 5GB free in the settings. The first time I saw this was
when a Mythbusters marathon came on. I raised the episode limit to 10 to
make sure I got all of them, then afterwards lowered it back down to 3 so
it wouldn't record new ones until I manually deleted at least 8 of them.
After the episode limit change MythTV wiped out 7 of them to get to 3
recordings without asking.
2) I have seen a few times where I have a series set to maintain 5
episodes and it has all 5. I watch one of them and delete it, then two
back to back episodes of the series come on and it records both and then
realizes it's over the limit then deletes the oldest of the 6. It was
like when it started to record the second one it didn't realize it had
already reached the limit, then later realized it was over the limit and
deleted the oldest one ala complaint observation #1.
Is anybody else seeing this? Did I miss one of the many settings? Should
it work like that? To me it seems like unless I'm running out of hard
drive space or I explicitly tell it When episode limit is full,
delete old, record new MythTV should *never* auto delete an
episode, even if it is over the episode limit.
Other than that Myth is AWESOME! I haven't watched live TV in months, and
there is no going back. Thanks guys!

And, err, thirded. Thankyou.

Interesting. I'm looking into this. I assume the script continues and
writes a valid xml file at the end (possibly without these two

I'm getting the same thing (with v1.32). The following sequence of errors
occurs, for (I think) every program.

Use of uninitialized value in split at /usr/bin/tv_grab_au line 440.
Use of uninitialized value in string eq at /usr/bin/tv_grab_au line 444.

This is only for a --slow grab. Fast ones work fine. The resulting xml
looks like this:-

i.e. there's no program data.

On another note (and borrowing from another thread) I would find it useful
to be able to populate two channel's data from one source e.g. ABC TV and
ABC HDTV, both from ABC TV.

I should clarify myself. The script actually spits heaps of these

I ended up backing up to 6836 to try the Cuy patches for ATSC

I'm now getting the CPU load I expect. I'll move forward to the latest

I haven't seen the recording problems you mentioned, but I've only got
1 pcHDTV HD-3000.

The only other wierdness I see is when both pcHDTV HD-3000's are recording at
the same time and I'm watching something, after about 20 minutes of recording,
my CPU pegs at 80% or so, even when I shutdown viewing, it won't clear. Th
cx88atsc driver reports a buffer overflow at the same time the CPU pegging
starts. This doesn't happen if I'm watching through a remote frontend, only
if I'm watching on the master doing the recording.

the channel titles of the tv guide. Can those values be set to an
arbitary string?

Yes. When used with mythtv I don't imagine these values will be used at
all --- you can set them to anything you want as long as they are unique
within a given pair of braces.

I put them in there just in case(TM). The XML file produced by
tv_grab_au has channel definitions of the form

channel id=act.abc.gov.au
  display-name lang=enABC ACT/display-name
/channel

and it seemed reasonable to allow users to change the name used in the
duplicated versions of these. That may actually be useful to someone
using the script with programs other than mythtv (not that I know of
anyone doing that).

Certainly,

 'act.abc.gov.au' = { '1' = 'hd.abc.gov.au', '2' = '22.abc.gov.au' }

would be a reasonable form. If there are enough complaints I'll happily
reconsider this decision(*).

There is not a way to do this. It would be nice.

Another potential feature, which would be big WAF in my house, is some
way of marking shows as having been viewed by all the people that want
to watch them. I record a few shows for myself, but about 60% of what
we record is for both my wife and I, and we are forever deleting
things before the other one has had a chance to watch. It would be
nice to have some option in the setup to say which users wanted to be
involved in deletion, and then an option in the deletion message that
says something along the lines of 'mark for deletion by user 'Mark',
etc.

Along these same lines are position save by user. My wife saves a
position in the episode she's watching. I come along and start
watching and that deletes her position.

have found option 4 (ProjectX/dvdauthor) better :-)
Not perfect, but better. ProjectX allows you to cut out
unwanted segments without stuffing the audio/video sync, the
other two caused me problems in that area.

The only problem I've had with ProjectX/dvdauthor
is that the burnt discs won't play perfectly in some DVD
players. Seems to be something causing jumping/looping
problems. But hey, they work fine in mine (Pioneer).

cheers
Carl.

Carl,
ProjectX seemed too daunting... too many packages to choose from, and
completely not clear what's needed for what! Maybe after 3 failures I
wasn't adventures to try yet another option :-\ Anyway, I made some
more progress with mythburn. First, I figured that there are *two*
mythwebs. One is an option in mythfrontend (Information Center - Web)
that is empty for me; and another is php site http://localhost/mythweb
(which I completely forgot about).

It seems that install script puts itself as an option into that php
site, but fails. Even so, I can start it directly
http://localhost/mythweb/mythtvburndvd/ Generally, it has a lot of
hard-coded stuff. But I am OK playing around with PHP, so I think I am
getting somewhere here. If (once ;-) ) I get stuck - I'll try ProjectX.
Any quick start documentation for that?

Thanks
Felix

It took me literally a week of my off time, but I've finally got
most of the components of mythtv running to my satisfaction:
Home made IR Blaster, PVR 350, 250G disk array over NFS, updated
knoppmyth ivtv drivers to 0.3.7b so I can watch DVDs on the 350's
 TV out, etc...

LiveTV and playback are working great, but commercial detection
and closed captioning don't work at all.

Anyone encountered this before? Is it an ivtv driver issue, or
 a mythtv issue?

Doesn't work isn't very descriptive. What does it do? What doesn't
 it do?

Sigh. Yeah, ok. If you really want the play-by-play:

1.) I start watching livetv (or a recording).
2.) I bring up the menu
3.) I moved down to the closed captioning line
4.) I click my OK button on my hauppauge remote over the toggle cc
option.
5.) It doesn't work. Nothing changes. No closed captioning.

The only way doesn't work could allow someone to respond with a
sensible answer without guessing is if the functionality is not
 supported in Myth.

Oh, BTW, closed-captioning is not supported with PVR-x50's in Myth. :)

Gee, I guess you didn't need the play-by-play after all. :(

Asinine comments aside, how come closed-captioning isn't supported on
the PVR-x50's? Is it a driver issue (in other words, is the ivtv driver
incapable of processing closed captioning), or is it just that mythtv
needs some work to integrate with closed captioning support in the ivtv
driver?

Also, what about commercial detection? Is that supposed to work with
PVR-x50's, or not? If it is, then I'd love to figure out what I need
to change to make it work on my system.

Thanks.
