[mythtv-users] Sound cuts out after changing channels or starting to watch live tv

2006-01-30 Thread Chris McGee
Hello,I have been using MythTV and a ASUS TV-FM 7135 card for the last month or so and everything has been working well until a couple of days ago. I took mythtv offline so I could use transfer home videos onto my hard drive using mencoder.Anyways, it seems that after that, whenever I start up the backend frontend and begin to watch live TV, there is no sound. My capture card does not loop the audio into my line-in on my soundcard or anything. It has its own /dev/dsp1 and /dev/mixer1 devices as input for the audio. As a workaround I am able to open up the gnome mixer app, point it at the /dev/mixer1 device and change the recording source from "Video" to "Line-1" and back to "Video" and all of a sudden MythTV begins to output sound for the live TV. Before I perform the workaround, "Video" is set as the recording source and nothing is muted or anything so it doesn't look like Myth has been making any mixer changes or anything. The audio
will work just fine until I change channels and the sound immediately cuts out again. There's a bit of a static noise and the sound cuts out completely. Again, I can work around this by bringing up the gnome mixer app.So, of course, whenever I have a timed program for recording, the tuner changes channels and the recording has no sound.I have tested the tuner card with tvtime (and using sox to grab /dev/dsp1 and dump to /dev/dsp) and changing channels and the audio doesn't get cut off or anything. So, it appears that the capture card and kernel driver are both ok. It seems like the myth backend detects something wrong with the audio stream and quits until I do the workaround and it decides that the audio stream is ok again.Anyways, I was wondering if anyone has any ideas or could point me in the right direction.Thanks,ChrisPS. Here's a snippet of the mythbackend.log after using the "-v all option" while I was watching live tv and
 attempting my workaround above:2006-01-29 07:22:02.320 Using profile 'Live TV' to record2006-01-29 07:22:03.303 Channel(/dev/video0)::CheckSignalFull(): input = 0strange error flushing buffer ...2006-01-29 07:22:05.339 2 ok2006-01-29 07:22:05.420 247 La Famille Passiflore[]:[] []:[]Les aventu...2006-01-29 07:22:05.821 6 1280002006-01-29 07:22:05.836 7 0[]:[]02006-01-29 07:22:05.929 6 1280002006-01-29 07:22:05.959 9 0[]:[]5962006-01-29 07:22:06.003 8 0[]:[]152006-01-29 07:22:06.021 6 1280002006-01-29 07:22:06.052 23 0[]:[]0[]:[]0[]:[]135642006-01-29 07:22:06.093 6 1280002006-01-29

Re: [mythtv-users] Is it possible to use nuvexport on a host remote from the backend?

2006-01-29 Thread Chris Petersen
Is it possible to use nuvexport on a host remote from the backend?
I have a more powerful machine than the backend one, which runs
mythfrontend fine. However, when I try and use nuvexport I get:

 Loading MythTV recording info.
This host not configured for myth.
(No RecordFilePrefix defined for rattus in the settings table.)

Needless to say nuvexport works fine on the backend. This is a bit
weird as the backend mysql database does not have a RecordFilePrefix
 column in the settings table.

Install a frontend on your remote box, run it once to get things
configured, then nuvexport will work.

As mentioned, I have a fully working mythfrontend on the remote box. It
does not work. rattus is the remote machine.

Sorry, missed that.

 Any ideas?

The only thing I can think of is that `hostname` returns a value
different than the one mythfrontend finds. What do you get from the
following:

SELECT * FROM settings WHERE value=RecordFilePrefix;

and what do you get when you run `hostname` on your remote machine?

Sounds good to me, as long as they serve something without animal parts

Noonish on Sunday would be good for me.

I cancelled the get-together for lack of interest. After trying two of

Reducing color depth certainly affects picture quality from a technical
standpoint, but it sounds like you are in a position where you may need
choose the lesser of several picture degrading evils.

720p is 30 frames/s. 1080i is 60 1920x540 fields/s. Consider
trying out your FX5200 with reduced color depth, the bandwidth needs
should be significant;y reduced. On 1/28/06, Jerry Rubinow [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

PCI, not AGP?I'm using XvMC on my MX440 AGP and it works great with Myth and the 7676 Nvidia drivers on the SVN.You might want to give XvMC with that driver version another shot when 0.19 is released on your
FX5200.I've found it to be very solid. KevinWhen I was trying to do HD over the PCI FX5200, I consistently hadslowness/skipped frames/stuttering.I eventually did somecalculations, and 720p at 24bits and 30 frames per second is 632
Mbits/sec.I saw in the list archives that PCI's maximum transferspeed ranges between 600-700 Mbits/sec.However, I think 24 bit videois actually using 32 bips per pixels (alpha), and isn't HD refreshing
at 60 frames/sec?So I must not be figuring something right, or elseI wouldn't be getting anything approaching viewable, but I wasactually getting something pretty close, so I'm not entirely surewhat's going on.But in any case, it seems like at a minimum, it's
close to PCI's capacity. As far as XvMC, I have no idea how the bandwidth of what's beingpushed to the card for XvMC compares that of non-XvMC (although Iwould really like to know).I do know I had various problems with
XvMC displaying correctly.Maybe due to bandwidth issues also, but Idon't know. But I will give it another shot at some point before Ithrow in the towel on this computer and relegate it to an SD frontend

Yes. You add shows to the playlist either individually using the INFO

an entire group (title, category, whatever) by pressing MENU on a group

You can also press the / key to tag and ? to clear the list. These are

My PVR-150 records at the default 2.1GB/hr. My TiVo

Once upon a time, I had a standalone TiVo with Comcast

having side by side TVs to watch concurrent baseball games.

I'd take my Myth box over my SA TiVo anyday. I'd say the picture
quality difference between those 2 was negligible, but the Myth box has
never been hooked up to anything other than a computer monitor. The
Tivo was always hooked up to a TV (except for 4.25 glorious snowy hours
that made Adam Vinatieri and The Tuck Rule household names, when it
was hooked up to a DLP front projector).

All that said, DirecTiVo PQ = DirecTV PQ (IMnsHO) Comcast PQ Comcast captured by PVR PQ.

Re: [mythtv-users] Sports events, LiveTV or Watch Recording?

2006-01-27 Thread Chris Ribe
With regards to the football game situation, there IS a right answer.
(please forgive the use of caps for emphasis) If a tuner wants to
record two different things that are on the SAME CHANNEL at the
SAME TIME, myth should record the overlapping portion once and
graft it onto both .nuvs. I understand that this is not a trivial
thing to implement, but it is the kick-me-in-the-head obvious solution
to the problem.

I'd like to think that mythtv is smart, but a program that sits there
and says I can't record this because I'm busy recording this is just
dumb.On 1/27/06, Bruce Markey [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
Greg Woods wrote: On Fri, 2006-01-27 at 14:54 -0500, Michael T. Dean wrote: if you have one capture card and want to record a show on channel 3 from 7:00 to 9:00 with a recording-rule specified extra 15
minutes on the end and a show on the same channel from 9:00 to 10:00, one will conflict with the other--you've said the 7:00 to 9:00 show is actually airing between 7:00 and 9:15.Therefore, you would need a
second capture card to get the 9:00 to 9:15 show. OK, that explains it. I've got a PVR-500, with two tuners, and this type of conflict occurs when I am also recording another game on a different
channel. Now for the overlap period I am trying to record three things with two tuners: the first game's extension, the second game on the same channel, and a third game on a different channel. It would be nice if it
figured out that the first extension isn't needed because the second recording will be recording that channel anyway, but it isn't quite that smart yet, so I end up having to manually remove the extension for the
first game to resolve the conflict.Understood. No question about what you are asking. However, thisfalls into what I call 'mind reading'. The scheduler faithfullyacts on the information that you have given. It can't second guess
that information because there's at least half a chance that secondguessing will do the wrong thing. For a poor but real example, back before version, say 0.8, we hadduplicate matching but Single was not treated as an exception. If
you chose something to Single record, it might see 'oh, he's recordedit before. I know he doesn't really need to record this again. I'llhelp him out with his amnesia 8-) This has been changed to Single
record 'cause I said so, damn it!.In http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-12.html I try to conveythat the scheduler is a tool kit where you are empowered to tell it
exactly what you want. The problem comes up when someone tells thescheduler some things to do, sees that the result isn't exactlywant they want, then wishes the scheduler would have read theirmind rather than using the tools to give it more information to
express exactly what they want. For any sort of algorithm proposed to second guess a specificsituation, there is an opposite example where that exceptionaldecision would do exactly the wrong thing.
If you had three cards, it could record all of them but with two,you have to decide what to do at the start of the second game. Youmight decide that one of the later games is boring and you don'twant to sit through it anyway. You might want to start the second
game on the same channel late so that the conclusion of the firstgame is in the same file. All it has to go on is that footballgames need to record extra time and there is no one right answerif they conflict. However, you know what the right answer for you
is on this day in this situation. You just need to tell it whatyou prefer by adding an override. The other thing that always comes up is that idea that the extratime should be optional so the scheduler doesn't have to warn you
about a conflict to let you know that you need to look and decide. In a case like this, that is a bad idea. You want to require theextra time because if the show that followed on another channel isrecorded and no conflict is reported, The game could be truncated
during the final dramatic drive with no forewarning. If it tellsyou there is a conflict then you can decide how you feel about thegame and the show on another channel that follows. The silicongates can't know how you feel, they can only know the numbers that
were entered into the equation.--bjm___mythtv-users mailing listmythtv-users@mythtv.org

elinks only has rudimentary js support, I don't think lynx has it at

Thus, two themes... One full-featured fancy ajax-loaded one, and one

 Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of experience in C ( and I don't think
anybody wants me to gain any by hacking up the mythtv sources ). I am
primarily web, I use a lot of Java and php, which naturally means I
should help with MythWeb. Where do I start? Are there any places where
 people post feature requests?

The two areas where I'm actively searching for help are:

  * MythWeb's music section needs to be completely rewritten
  * MythWeb's video section needs to be completely rewritten

(I don't really use either of these features of MythTV, so they've been
low on my priority list)

I'm also hoping that someone will send me an updated WAP theme for SVN
(hopefully before the .19 release). Its usual maintainer is really busy
and hasn't told me if he'll be able to do it or not.

I'd also like to get MythStreamTV integrated into the official code now
that MythWeb has a semi-modular design, though I'll likely let its
current author work out those details.

And of course, much of MythWeb still needs to be rewritten to use
semantic markup with better CSS support, but I'll likely tackle that
myself after .19 is released.

I have not really messed with mythweb's music section, only long enough
to know that it doesn't work like Jinzora does. I have no idea what the
video section does. Is everything written in php?

I've tried to talk to the jinzora authors a few times about integrating
with mythweb, but got no response worth mentioning.

Currently, the music section is mainly just a viewer of what's in the
DB. Would *love* to get a nice playlist builder and player added to
MythWeb (heck, I'd just be happy to replace the current music code with
something that matches the structure of the rest of mythweb)

And yes, everything is currently php. Mostly for compatibility and ease
of install (rather than having to show people how to set up php and a
cgi environment).

experience in many different languages. Just thought I'd point out an
already existing piece of software that might make writing the music
 section a bit easier.

Slimserver is awesome, but is a perl-based self-contained webserver with
on-the-fly format conversion.

Would be interesting to see something like that integrated with mythweb,
though... Would also make video streaming a lot easier. Would probably
end up being better served as a separate project with a mythweb plugin
for it (like I hope mythstream will eventually be, though this could
supersede mythstream in functionality)

Re: [mythtv-users] How much storage do you have for MythTV?

2006-01-25 Thread Chris Ribe
That's about right. Although I might have likened the tivo to a Honda Accord and the Myth box to an old Jaguar E-Type.

To keep somewhat on the topic of recording space, my Directv tivo
stores about 36 hours of SD programming (at about 1GB/hr), and its
quality is vastly superior to what I get get from my Comcast cable and
PVR-150.

Re: [mythtv-users] Help Developing MythWeb

2006-01-25 Thread Chris Petersen
took me about 2 minutes to write a php function to return a m3u list
 of the current mythmusic page.
With some javascript and a little bit of AJAX (I like pear::HTML_AJAX
for php) you could have a pretty sweet playlist editor. I do suck at
designing interfaces however so if someone makes something static I
could put some brains to it,

And while we're at it redo the filtering for the music lists.

I will *only* accept patches that are a complete rewrite of the music
portion. The current object-based setup is imho horribly ugly, and at
best does not match up with the how rest of the code is implemented. If
you have questions, I'm almost always in the #mythtv-users irc channel
on freenode.

I also request that use of javascript only ADD to the functionality of
the page, not become a necessity (too many mythweb users out there don't
use javascript). Sometime after .19, I do plan to create a new
minimal theme to work without javascript so that the default theme can
be made all ajax-friendly, but until then, javascript should always be
considered an extra, not a requirement.

Sounds like your apache config isn't set up properly for mod_rewrite.
It's trying to redirect instead of merely rewrite the URL behind the scenes.

Make sure that your AllowOverride settings are correct, and check out

 - How much is silence in your living room worth?

Rather a lot, a 200 kw turbogenerator is stone silent comapared to my 6-yar
old, so...

 - Do you (and other family members) want an ugly old computer
 showcased in your living room?

No, so I have it behind the wall unit and use an RF keyboard and mouse.

 - How much did you spend on audio/video gear in the past?

Not a whole lot, though it seemed a bunch at the time (older gear, but it
suits our purposes).

 - How much money do you normally spend on your computer hobby?

As little as possible. I have other hobbies, as well.

 - How many hours of recordings do you want to keep? (HINT: it's more
than you would ever think when your building your first mythtv box)

Yes it is, but I archive off to DVD anything we deem worth keeping longer
than one viewing.

 - When one of your hard drives fails and you lose your
system/recordings, how much would it be worth to you to be able to go
back in time and set up RAID?

Not a thing. I backup my system drive whenever I do an upgrade (both before
and after) and the /video directory (on it's own drive) can go poof for
all I care, I'm only out the cost of a replacement drive.

What did I spend?
Combined Frontend/Backend SD
$36 - DVD Burner
$25 - 40 Gig HD (eBay)
$75 - PVR-150 (eBay)
$9 - Case and PS
$7 - homebrew speed control circuit for PS fan
$20 - RF wireless Keyboard Mouse
everything else (700 mhz Pentium III, MB, 640MB ram, 20 Gig system drive) I
had lying around the house.
Cables to hook it all together (I splurged here) $45

Total: about $220 Like most things, the key to a satisfactory purchase is
to know what you want to do, and shop carefully and patiently.

Given the time this started, I'm guessing it's related. Any idea what

[mythtv-users] [Mythtv-users] - Mythbackend stopping randomly

2006-01-22 Thread Chris Henderson
Hi all,First thanks to all on this list that give your time so freely.I have had my mythtv setup up and running for quite a while now. I am running my setup with Dvico lite cards. With some help form the forum here i got them going. And it seems to be working perfectly.
But then i started to run into a, seemingly random, problem. Myth would say that it is recording the program but not actually do it. After checking all the logs i could find, i still couldn't find the problem. So i checked that the backend was running and it was most of the time it was. it seems that even though the backend crashes the mythbackend status command doesn't show or know that the backend has crashed. so i just restart it and it works.
So off to the list I go. After a bit of searching i find that there is a
known bug when the recordings screen is left open and the log files
tries to do something it crashes the mythbackend service. Here is the rub, i found somewhere off this list a person that documents how to use a program that tracks certain process to see if they are still running. (cant find it now. off course) but if the status command says that it is still running, will that work? From memory it says it says that it uses the PID
The thread in the forum says that it is fixed in the SVN and therefore in 0.19 should not have that problem anymore. Now i am not anywhere near good enough to try a snapshot of the CVS, even if i knew what that meant ;-)
So my questions are; Will the program (that i cant find now) work if the status command says that it is still running?Would it be better to just restart the service at a set time say 1pm everyday? - i would assume that you could use a cron job to do this. can somebody help me with this?
Is there something simple to fix this problem? (please don't say, don't leave it in the watch recordings screen. The wife does this every day no matter what i tell her she is the one that complains that it didn't record her show!!! )
Any help would be great..Chris.

Because delaying a high-priority show to record a low priority show

high priority show. It's a feature.

If you want to have the schedule optimized the way you suggest, then the
answer is to enable the Reschedule Higher Priorities option on the
Recording Priorities setup page on the frontend menu. This option
tells Myth that it's OK to bump high-priority shows if they exist

Re: [mythtv-users] 2.6.15 and nvidia cards

2006-01-21 Thread Chris Ribe
Jumping in on a tangent here, but I am running 32 bit FC4
installation on an EM64T processor for a couple of reasons. First
of all, I couldn't my x86_64 install CDs to work. It took
me about 72 hours in front of the computer to get everything
installed. I believe the problems were due to bad memory (and a
incompatible power button header on the MB, and a lack of thermal
grease between processor and heatsink), but the install I finally got
to work was 32 bit.

Anyhow, I now have my myth box up and running with an smp kernel on a
P4 630+. Jarod suggests in FC4 install guide that x86_64 is less
stable than 32bit, and I have not yet heard any potential benefits of
using x86_64 linux for a myth box.

So then, might I see significantly faster transcode times were I
to switch to a 64 bit installation? The only transcoding I
am interested in is from DVD to mpeg4, if that somehow makes a
difference.

[mythtv-users] mythtranscode segfault

2006-01-19 Thread Chris Thielen
Hello all,
I recently got _most_ of my awesome new MythTV PVR running. I'm using
Fedora Core 4 with the RPMs provided by the Fedora Myth HOWTO, using
MythTV 0.18.1 and IVTV 0.4.1. It is a P4 2.5 GHz box with a PVR-500.
All the shows that are recorded from the PVR500 are in huge MPEG-2
format, taking up roughly a gigabyte every half hour. I told MythTV to
transcode these titles without setting any options (transcode them to
what?) and checked back on them hours later. They both had failed
immediately.

When I sudo and run mythtranscode -i somefile.nuv in my /video
partition (where MythTV is keeping everything, and where space is
running out fast), I receieve the following:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] video]# mythtranscode -i

As best I can tell, mythtranscode is failing in some function that has
to do with writing a frame. Now since I installed RPM packages that many
others use on an updated, stable (heh) Fedora Core 4 box, I would think
that somebody would notice if mythtranscode wasn't working.

But, given the fact that it has trouble writing a frame, and that it's
coming from what looks like the destructor for the RecordingProfile
function, _and_ the fact that mythtranscode is doing something very
stupid (transcoding mpeg2-mpeg2), I'm guessing it's just a bug in
mythtranscode b/c no one would be stupid enough to waste CPU time
transcoding from one format to the exact same format?

So, my question is two-fold:
1) How do I stop mythtranscode from failing?
and, related:
2) How do I create and specify a different profile, perferrably
MPEG2-MPEG4, seeing as my /video partition is currently only 30GB.

Thanks for your help!

I don't see any job queue options under recording profiles. Here are
all the places I see options regarding job queues:

What version are you running? It is in there since before 0.18, it will say
Run 'Nuvexport Job' or Do not run 'Nuvexport job' for new recordings.
They are on the Post Recording Processing page of the recording

Latest version. Ok, I'll look again when I get a chance. Is that in

The recording profiles are in mythfrontend. I thought you said you

2006-01-18 Thread Chris Hembrow
I set my nova-t as the first input, that way I don't tie up my sky box
by recording a freeview channel, unless i'm recording 2 channels.
There is nothing more annoying than getting halfway through a
recording, only to find that the missus has changed sky channel, or
left it on the sky guide for 20 minutes! (and that is despite having
an LCD on the box which shows if/what it's recording)

The only problem I had was with scanning the channels, cuz I have a
cr4p aerial. I had to manually enter the frequencies in mythtvsetup
and do a search then. But this shouldn't be a problem with a decent
aerial.

Thanks David. I'll have a search about in the archives. I've been
reading plenty of stuff on the web and I know a fair bit more about DVB
today than I did yesterday! I had a look at the megalithia site and I
have good line of site to Billsdale (no obstructions) and I'm 21 miles
away. Since I already have a good loft space aerial I'm going to borrow
a friends set top box over the weekend and see what kind of reception I
get from it. If it's not great I'll have to have an outdoor aerial fitted.

With regard to Myth choosing the second tuner, I had assumed that it
would use the first input (my 250) unless there was a conflict and then
try to resolve it using the new input (Nova-T) is this the case ?

Oh, and on the 600Mhz, if you're running MythMusic then better not try to run
 full-screen visualizations either :)

I would also point out that even with the XvMC support for these boards,
don't try HD content. You need a LOT more muscle than this to pump HD to the
screen, even the 1Ghz version of the board won't handle it.

Be aware of the specs also; I'm not sure if the Epia P does come in a 1.3Ghz
form, I think it tops at 1Ghz as I recall. Either way, as pointed out above
since it's based on the Cyrix core some of the floating point ops are a
little slower than a similarly clocked Intel or AMD. However, the heat and
electricity used are a lot nicer in these cores.

We're still in a phase where embedded systems are a huge compromise... but

I don't have any log errors either, just the blank page.
I was a bit worried about the hostname variable as
using /bin/hostname on the WEB server obviously
will give you the wrong variable to use for in the SQL queries.

that was changed yesterday... no /bin/ (or it won't work in windows),
and there is now an override hostname setting in .htaccess (it was also
removed from conf.php, which I'm slowly trying to eliminate).

For example the following from tv/recorded.php
$dir = $db-query_col('SELECT data
  FROM settings
 WHERE value=RecordFilePrefix AND
 hostname=?',
   hostname
  );
will need the hostname of the MythTV box.

no, it won't. each host can have its own RecordFilePrefix. MythWeb is
doing exactly what it's supposed to. However, I'm probably missing some
config for this so it can easily be set from MythWeb

There is a problem in my setup though:

I suspect that this has something to do with the fact

on a different machine than MythTV itself.

The previous versions of mythweb worked fine in this setup though

Previous as in how old? Last week? Last month? .16?

If you upgraded from .18, did you read through the .htaccess file and
configure your database variables?

Try enabling errors in php.ini and see if that helps shed some light on
the situation (there's only so much I can trap for within mythweb itself).

Thanks for the reply. I was looking at suspend2, but having to unmount my nfs

the services before suspending, then restart them on resume. That part takes
up most of the boot time doesn't it? Would I gain anything?

I'm using suspend2 on a Epia M10K. At one point it worked flawlessly
and was much faster than a full boot. But in the course of getting
SPDIF and XvMC and lirc working, I've changed something that causes it
to mess up the networking about every other resume. Also mythfrontend
sometimes crashes the first time I try to use it, and I can't use an
ATI wonder remote (with module lirc_atiusb). I don't think this is the

It is not the reason for the problem, but anyway?

yes. it means equals, and of the same type. In that case, if $key is
zero, 'offset' is evaluated as an integer, which is also zero, so they
match. The === makes sure that 'offset' and $key are both the same type
(int != string).

Re: [mythtv-users] Mythweb problem

2006-01-17 Thread Chris Petersen
Anyway I am very close to a solution now.
Down in programs.php the SQL produced in load_all_program_data() is bogus
it contains 4 ? marks and the query is only passed 3 parameters. I told PHP
 to
print the SQL statement in my case and got:
query = SELECT program.*, UNIX_TIMESTAMP(program.starttime) AS
 starttime_unix,
 UNIX_TIMESTAMP(program.endtime) AS endtime_unix, CONCAT(repeat(?,
 program.stars * ?), IF((program.stars * ? * 10) % 10, ?, )) AS
 starstring,
 IFNULL(programrating.system, ) AS rater, IFNULL(programrating.rating, )
 AS
rating, oldrecorded.recstatus FROM program LEFT JOIN oldrecorded USING
(seriesid, programid) LEFT JOIN programrating USING (chanid, starttime) WHERE
 program.chanid='30' AND program.starttime = FROM_UNIXTIME('1137685500') GROUP
 BY program.chanid, program.starttime ORDER BY program.starttime

The substituting parameters in the query are:
 star_character, max_stars, max_stars

That's not what that query looks like... remove the file and re-up svn.

Re: [mythtv-users] Mythweb problem

2006-01-17 Thread Chris Petersen
The new query with parameters replaced and run from mysql generates the
 following:

mysql SELECT program.*, UNIX_TIMESTAMP(program.starttime) AS starttime_unix,
 UNIX_TIMESTAMP(program.endtime) AS endtime_unix, CONCAT(repeat(*,
 program.stars * 4), IF((program.stars * 4 * 10) % 10, ?, )) AS
 starstring,
 IFNULL(programrating.system, ) AS rater, IFNULL(programrating.rating, )
 AS
rating, oldrecorded.recstatus FROM program LEFT JOIN oldrecorded USING
(seriesid, programid) LEFT JOIN programrating USING (chanid, starttime) WHERE
 program.chanid='5' AND program.starttime = FROM_UNIXTIME('1137693600') GROUP
 BY program.chanid, program.starttime ORDER BY program.starttime;
ERROR 1052 (23000): Column 'chanid' in from clause is ambiguous
 mysql

I figure this is the problem here but really cannot see the reason for the
 error message.
Is this a MySQL bug? Currently using version 5.0.15.

that's not what the query looks like. see here:

http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/browser/trunk/mythplugins/mythweb/includes/programs.php

however, I think this is starting to look like a bug with subversion.
It seems almost like the frac12; entity is being converted into the
actual 1/2 character (which shows up in your code as a ?) when it's
being downloaded.

however, I've checked my own http checkout of myth (since I usually
check out via ssh for editing), and it's fine. So it seems like
something's funky in your particular install.

And no, it's not mysql. The ? replacement is from a library that I
wrote and included in mythweb.

As both program and oldrecorded has their own chanid the poor MySQL

Is it my for a long tim updated/upgraded database?

'Monitor' and 'Playback' connections are the same the only difference is
 'monitor'
connections don't block shutdown or trigger the flag in the backend that

 with
both 'Monitor' or 'Playback' connection types. The only difference is Mythweb

Using nice wouldn't have any effect on tasks that are primarily i/o

small cube speakers suck. Esp. Bose speakers. Properly designed small cube speakers take lots of RD resources to create and cost a lot of money, In wall speakers already have gone through a lot of RD resources just to get an
enclosure less driver to sound right. Most people that are going to use in wall speakers don't care to save that little bit of size so the manufacturers are willing to put normal drivers in them and spend the RD resources getting
normal sized drivers to sound good in an in wall package. Now, I've seen some in-wall's with nice quality grill plates, solid white or black (which can then be painted to match any wall color). But your going to

Are you going to be doing HD?

If not, you can't go too cheap. If you are only interested in SD
programming a good rule of thumb is probrably, If you can buy it new,
it's overkill.

The only components you really need to put any thought into are the
capture card(s) and hard disks(s). And the video card, kind
of. More storage is better.

Regarding memory specifically, if it is really going to be a dedicated
Myth box, there is no reason to waste money buying 2GB of memory.
512MB would be more than enough.

If you are going to use a television for your monitor, don't worry about a monitor.

Otherwise, get an NVidia 5xxx video card.

To do simultaneous playback and recording, your processor should be at least a 600Mhz PIII or equivalent.

This is one of my pet MythTV annoyances. I don't think shows should

a recording like the previous poster, but also I had problems for a

If you shedule a show and the only one on the schedule has already
started then Myth will grab what it can and consider the job complete.
Likewise, after a reboot it will start recording again (sometimes). I
don't mind this behavior, but would like to see the episode remain on
the ToDo list until a complete version is captured, at which time the
partials could be deleted.

Re: [mythtv-users] nuvexport and ffmpeg on Ubuntu

2006-01-15 Thread Chris Petersen
So I did an nuvexport --transcode (however after about 20 hours the
export still wasn't complete) Is that normal?

transcode is slightly slower than ffmpeg for most stuff, significantly
slower for mpeg stuff. imho, the quality from transcode is better, though.

Re: [mythtv-users] nuvexport and ffmpeg on Ubuntu

2006-01-15 Thread Chris Petersen
So it will complete. Hrmm. Its just too slow, think I'd sooner not use
it. Although that means at the cost of not having the cut list taken
 into account.

cutlist should work fine with ffmpeg.

It would appear the ubuntu ffmpeg build doesn't support psp, ipod
nuvexport options. Not compiled with the right switches.

these are semi-broken in nuvexport, too.. they don't work when they
should. I'm working on some PSP patches right now, actually.. but you
still need `ffmpeg -formats` to list PSP as an option. (dunno what to do
yet about ipod).

Re: [mythtv-users] playslist for recorded tv?

2006-01-15 Thread Chris Pinkham
in the watch recordings menu, it's possible to select a recorded
program, push the right button, and then select add to playlist.

After you tag a few recordings, hit the MENU key and you'll find a
few things you can do with the playlist.

Re: [mythtv-users] nuvexport and ffmpeg on Ubuntu

2006-01-15 Thread Chris Petersen
I had a movie with 10 flagged commericals sections. When I converted
to mpg using nuxexport with no options (thus using ffmpeg) the cutlist
of those 10 flagged sections were not removed.

flag != cutlist.

You also have to tell nuvexport to to use the cutlist. If you did all
of that and it still didn't work, something's likely up with that
particular recording and freaking out mythtranscode.

ipod output would be handy too. If you need any testing, then just
give us a yell. Would be happy to help in anyway possible.

Yeah, working on that, too. my ipod can't play videos, so it's low on
my list until someone sends me a patch.

Re: [mythtv-users] nuvexport and ffmpeg on Ubuntu

2006-01-15 Thread Chris Petersen
So commercial flagging is not the same as cutlist? Then how does the
commercial flagging become a cutlist to honour at export.

flagging is just flagging. mythtranscode has a --gencutlist option to
import the flag list as a cutlist (I still need to include this in
nuvexport), or if you're like me and don't trust the flagging to be
completely accurate (it's not), start watching the show in the frontend,
press E to edit, then Z to import the flag list as a cutlist, then
adjust it as needed and press E to exit back to watching (then esc to go
back to the menu)...

Re: [mythtv-users] Mythweb shuts down my machine

2006-01-15 Thread Chris Petersen
Except that if I started a standard front end I would not expect it to
kick the backend scripts until I closed the front end down.
Whats different with Mythweb, that makes the backend think that its gone
 away even when its up?

There's no persistent connection. Each time you connect to a mythweb
page, it connects to the backend, does what it needs to and then
disconnects. There'd have to be an apache plugin or something compiled
to hold onto a persistent connection for it to work any other way, and
that'd be overkill for this application (not to mention make things more
complex than they need to be for users to install).

Re: [mythtv-users] Is satellite/cable HDTV possible w/ MythTV, or alternatives?

2006-01-15 Thread Chris Ribe
Have you ever tried hooking a cable box up to a computer monitor with a DVI cable?

Did it work? No?

That's the copy protection in action.

Re: [mythtv-users] install ivtv-0.5.1 fails with ivtv: disagrees about version of symbol tveeprom_hauppauge_analog (make distclean doesn't help)

2006-01-14 Thread Chris

Jan 13 20:39:24 localhost kernel: ivtv: Unknown symbol
 tveeprom_hauppauge_analog

You probably need to get rid of some duplicate modules

The following script finds them

#! /bin/bash
green=\033[.01;32m
normal=\033[00m
dir=${1:-/lib/modules/$(uname -r)}
modules=$(find ${dir} -name *.ko | sed 's/\(.*\)\/\([^/]*\)/\2/' |
sort | uniq -d)
for f in ${modules}; do
echo -e ${green}*** ${f} ***${normal}
find $dir -name ${f}
done

Remove the ivtv ones and rerun depmod -a

That did the trick for me

Good luck

Chris

 Thanks,

 Mike
