[newbie] postfix as local, firewall and rejected messages... long?
List, Where do I begin? First was having no local mail delivery. I thought I'd install Postfix. So I went to Derek Jennings web site. Nice, but I just have a standalone machine with an ADSL connection. I read some of the docs setup some aliases for root and no go. I no get mail. My log files showed rejected messages and a running of the mailq command provided the following: 742CE99E64 342 Thu May 27 01:01:00 [EMAIL PROTECTED] (connect to myhouse.net[220.80.108.83]: Connection refused) [EMAIL PROTECTED] Anyway to get local mail I discovered that port 25 needed to be opened on my firewall. So modified the shorewall rules file to permit a tcp connection on port 25 to the fw and into the machine: ## #ACTION SOURCE DESTPROTO DESTSOURCE ORIGINALRATEUSER/ # PORTPORT(S) DESTLIMIT GROUP ACCEPT net fw icmp8 ACCEPT fw net icmp ACCEPT net fw tcp 25 ACCEPT fw net tcp #LAST LINE -- ADD YOUR ENTRIES BEFORE THIS ONE -- DO NOT REMOV Hope this doesn't compromise my security? Well.. I finally started getting mail from the terminal and into evo 1.4 after finally figuring out delivery was local by mbox or /var/spool/mail/terryg. I still however get the above rejected messages and have tried to look at postfix docs, but there is alot there and I'm want to keep it simple right now. So how can I fix the rejected message and get back to that notion that my postfix mailer works? I have enclosed my /etc/postfix/main.cf file. Thanks for reading, Terry Terry Golightly ... Any advice appreciated Regards Kevin I just recently built boson 0.10 under 10.0 Official. Runs like a dog because I don't have a video driver with h/w acceleration support, but that's a separate issue. I ran into several version issues with autoconf and the related gnu build system programs. Mandrake installs by default ancient versions of these (2.13 of autoconf; 2.59 is the latest stable), apparently for backward compatibility with older programs. They seem to have forgotten about forward compatibility :^). If you install the latest, it actually installs a script that tries to choose the correct version, so I don't know why the don't do this in the first place. You also have to upgrade automake and aclocal. I don't remember exactly the errors I got. There was something explicit about having to upgrade autoconf, I think, but after that, and before I realized I had to separately upgrade automake and aclocal, I got a lot of weird messages. If you haven't upgraded all these, do it and see if it helps. Mine built successfully after all upgrades. Also, the various build steps weren't entirely clear to me from the web page. As I worked it out, I put them all into a script (I think for example that all the "make install"s have to be done after all the "make"s have been done). I've attached it here. [newbie] sigmatel mp3 player
Hi, I was wondering if there has been progress on mounting these usb mp3 players. In that other os mine is identified as sigmatel mscn usb device. A google on that term reveals another player using the same systema Transcend JetFlash. In their literature they suggest a simple mount command from /dev/sda1 is all that's needed. Of course, this is not functional in LM10, to my knowledge. I have tried both kernels on the LM10 CE distro. Has this been addressed in 'Official'? Has anyone been successful with this usb mass storage player? Thanks and regards, Bill W. Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Or some other solution (possibly mounting the hard disk on another box with Linux installed)?? I usualy keep on of the floppy or CD mini-distributions around for things like this. The other option is to boot by feeding the kernel the option "init=/bin/bash". (append="init=/bin/bash") This will boot you directly to the bash shell, bypassing most of the security of the system. Any advice > appreciated > > > Regards > Kevin I just recently built boson 0.10 under 10.0 Official. Feel free to use this as you see fit. Hope this helps. -- Ron Hunter-Duvar ronhd at users dot sourceforge dot net Opinions expressed here are all mine. [newbie] recommended way of installing Firefox/Thunderbird?
Hi, I've just installed Mandrake 10 from the 3 downloadable CD ISOs, and so I have a cut-down install of Moz 1.6. I'm new to Mandrake (I have little bits of experience with various Linux distros and FreeBSD), I couldn't find either bit of software in the 'Control Centre' (software updating tool), and I'd like to find out the most recommended way of installing Firefox (preferably a recent build of) and Thunderbird 0.6. Paul, You can also try http://www.rarlab.com/rar/rarlinux-3.3.0.tar.gz . The guys at rarlabs have a linux command line version that works well with .rar files. The website indicates it's a trial version, but you could say that I'm still trying it out. If that doesn't help, WinRAR works well with wine. The server can serve any type of file system to clients using Samba. The only thing you have to worry about is the permissions. A Samba client can only read/write to folders to which they have permission. For example a Samba client 'fred' cannot write to a Linux folder owned by 'joe' unless the appropriate permissions are set. This is true for FAT32 partitions as well as Ext3 (there is little need to use Ext2 anymore). But because a FAT32 partition has no concept of permissions, when Linux mounts a FAT32 partition it will apply the permissions defined in your /etc/fstab file to the entire partition. If you want all your Samba clients to be able to read/write to a FAT32 partition you must set the option umask=0 in the line for that partition in the fstab file. This makes the perms 777 and anyone can read/write to the partition derek -- www.jennings.homelinux.net http://twiki.mdklinuxfaq.org Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft?
