Bittorrent and bittorrent-gui are on your CDs.
Install them with your Mandrake Software Install GUI. Once they are installed
clicking on a torrent link with a browser will automatically download the
target file and run bittorrent-gui.

If you are running a firewall you must open ports 6881 to 6889. If you do not
open these ports you will not be able to upload to other users, and
bittorrent will automatically reduce your download rate. The idea being you
have to share to get the benefit.

[newbie] TCP logging?

2004-11-09 Thread Eric Scott
Yo peeps;
I'm trying to set up some simple TCP connection's logging on my Mandrake 9.2

do something like execute date html_logs/ssh.log netstat -a | grep tcp
html_logs/ssh.log every ten seconds or so?

I'm sure there are better alternatives to logging this, if you know any let me
know.

I dont know if this is what you want but there is apache top

Summary: ApacheTop: top-like display of Apache logs.

Description: ApacheTop: top-like display of Apache logs.

ApacheTop watches a logfile generated by Apache (in standard common or

It is available via urpmi or Mandrake control center

I play many games on my Dell Inspiron 5150 with its 1600x1200 LCD and I
must say I've been very impressed with the display.

The resonse times of modem LCD's has improved dramatically in the last
year or so and there are many displays with response times under or
around the 20ms mark.. the lower the time, the less likely you are to
get ghosting.

Having said that, a real gaming zealot would probably still prefer a
19-21inch CRT because they still have the edge for games.

Thanks, Manaxus and Frankie. I know the early ones didn't have a very good

Is there an extra entry I need to make in my xstartup script for vnc to

I was told that when connecting via vnc is manages to start anther x11

work without using ssh.

[newbie] Download HTTP?

2004-11-09 Thread Eric Scott
Yo; does anybody know where I can download Mandrake 10.1 PPC via http instead
of FTP? On the FTP mirrors I'm getting an average of about 9KB/s. That just
won't do when download 2100MB of data. My satellite broadband has roughly a
600k down/4k up connection... .Yes, I said four up, not forty. I don't know
if this would slow down an FTP connection, it doesn't make sense to me, but
the point is it's download really really slow. Anyway, I'd like to try http
or something instead of ftp, and helpers?

Technically you can use wine to run .exe under linux, but you should
better find a linux version of your program.

I would reccomend mldonkey, it can access many different p2p networks
like fastrack a.k.a kazaa, edonkey/emule, gnutella/gnutella2, soulseek,
direct connect, open napster, and bittorent.

Go to urpmi.org, use easyurpmi to help you set up a repository for plf,
then as root type:
urpmi mldonkey-gui

When it is installed you can type: nohup mlnet
Then you can close your consol window and use the gui.
If you want, I can give you some other suggestions for making it work as
well as possible.

Joe.

Re: [newbie] Ping gamers

2004-11-09 Thread David Johnson
You won't likely find a 19 LCD panel that has a refresh rate of less
than 20ms that's affordable. For some reason panel manufacturers
haven't gotten their sh** together with the 19 panels yet, so shoot
for a 17 panel (can be had for $200-$300) or go all out for the Dell
FP2001 which can be had for under $700 if you catch a deal. The Dell
20.1 panel is THE panel for gamers.

Thanks, Manaxus and Frankie. I know the early ones didn't have a very good
refresh rate, but I was pretty sure that it would be better now. The
cheapest still look naff, but there are some very affordable ones that look
 OK.

Correct. When you start vncserver :nn, you're starting another
desktop environment like kde. Then, you're logging into that. Unlike
Windows, you're not going into the current desktop. You *could* go into
your current desktop if you run
K-Internet-RemoteAccess-VirtualDesktopConnection. Then choose Allow
Control of My Machine, enter a password to control your desktop. This
way of controlling your current desktop if inefficient; it takes a while
to render on your vnc client. So when you're saying to connect to vnc
via ssh, are you wanting to use ssh tunneling?

  Sending HUP to httpd2:

It means that your system is shutting Apache down. Perhaps
when you rotate log files, or something else?

[newbie] To sum-up monthly total traffic

2004-11-09 Thread Fajar Priyanto
Hi folks,
One of my school gets ADSL for it's internet connection. But it's limited for
2GB traffic per month (additional fee apply for any excess traffic).

Is there any program that I can use to monitor TOTAL traffic, say the monthly
traffic? I have install mrtg and sarg on the gateway, but if I'm not
mistaken, mrtg only monitors the amount of bandwidth and not the actual
accumulated traffic? And sarg, it counts the amount of traffic, but only for
web traffic only. What about pop3/smtp traffic?

What should I use to monitor and count all those traffics?
Thanks.
