[newbie] mdk going crazy

2003-08-14 Thread - netmaniac -
First (issue posted sometime ago) was the segfault messages with wine... no
big problem. But now both gnome and kde waits 5 minutes to start up and my
shell is no longer colorful (it's only black and white, maybe the shell type
was changed someway).

The only thing i did after a fresh mdk 9.1 instalation was to install nvidia
drivers and wine, but there were some unpropper shutdowns due to energy
problems. I don't think this is an hardware issue because windowze is
working just fine.

suggestions?

cheers

[newbie] wine problems

2003-08-14 Thread - netmaniac -
I'm trying to install kazaa using wine on my mdk9.1 but I receive a

file_set_error: No such file or directory
fixme:ntdll:RtlNtStatusToDosError no mapping for 0001869f
during the kazaa's setup process. I googled and figured out that these mdk
rpms are broken. So, I downloaded other rpms but I receive a Segmentation
Fault when starting wine (I tried more than one rpm).

Suggestions?

Hmm, I believe that when your LEDs on your keyboard blink simutaneously,
its a
kernel related crash.

Have you tried updating your RPM database? As su/root, try:

rpm --rebuilddb

and see if it makes it through. If it does, see if it helps.

Re: [newbie] trying to post with postfix

2003-01-15 Thread - netmaniac -

Ok, everything now seems to be going fine. The mailserver no longer
returns
the messages sent to the postfix server. However, I can't find the
messages
in the linux box. I've searched many /var and ../spool folders and
user's
home directory but I found nothing.

 netmaniac

Have you used Webmin to go into Postfix and check user mailboxes to
see if there are non-0 values for the mailboxes?

I was mistaken. After a few hours the messages were returned. I don't know

I didn't found any check mailboxes or something similar in webmin.

[newbie] postfix problems

2003-01-15 Thread - netmaniac -
I've two mail servers on my network: a w2kserver and a linux one. The w2k box is the PDC which is connected to the internet and the mail server is working fine. But, when I try to send any e-mail to the linux box (postfix) I can't read them. I mean, I don't know where they went to. There's nothing in the spool folders, but the w2kserver says that the message was delivered.

By the way, if someone has any good documentation about postfix I would like to know the url.

Peace!

[newbie] trying to post with postfix

2003-01-14 Thread - netmaniac -
I've installed postfix and following some howtos and it's documentation to
set it up.

Well, it's running and I can connect to it via telnet and send e-mails to my
other mailbox. The problem is that I can't send e-mails to the postfix
server. I've tried to send e-mails to user@host, [EMAIL PROTECTED],
user@domain but the mail server that i'm using to send those e-mails to
postfix returns all of them with a Message delivery delay message.

So, i tryed to sent to user@[ipnumber] and nothing have returned, but i've
checked the folders where should be mail and there's nothing. Note that both
servers are on the same subnet (and of course, same network).

Any suggestion?

Are you doing your administration and configuration through Webmin's
server applet for Postfix? If so, then you might want to make sure that
under the GENERAL OPTIONS you put your true hostname - aside from
localhost and all that jazz - and make sure that the machines you're
using as clients have the linux box' IP address in their hosts files
(and a reboot); also make sure that under NETWORK INTERFACES FOR
RECEIVING MAIL you have your static IP for the server in there. Restart
Postfix and you should be right. You might also want to make sure that
the services IPOP3, IPOP2 are running system-wide - they should be
already running, but ya never know...

Mister Teatime had a truly brilliant mind, but it was brilliant like a

The client is running windowze and it's pointing to the DNS server
(192.168.0.1) to resolve the names. So, it still need the hosts file? And
about Webmin's server applet for Postfix? I've never used this before but I
would appreciate if you could give me the url so I can give a try. Until
now, i've done all the config editing the main.cf file and i didn't set up a
pop server yet. According to the howtos the messages should be in the folder
specified by the home_mailbox variable in the main.cf in my case it's
home_mailbox=mailbox, but the messages aren't there.

Once you get into Webmin, you'll be confronted with HEAPS of GUI based

[newbie] linux terminal on windows?

2003-01-11 Thread - netmaniac -
I'm currently using two machines: one with apache and the other with
windows, because I still like the photoshop, dreamweaver and other web
design tools. But don't like to switch between computers every time I want
to make a change on the server.

So, is there some way in windows I could emulate a linux terminal that would
execute commands on the linux server? (pretty confusing isn't it?)

Thanks for the answer!

I don't know what i've done but my apache server now only display 'Access
Forbidden' messages. Do you, or anyone, knows how to fix this?

And, someone has an alternative for dreamweaver? All the linux WYSIWYG html
editors i've found aren't good enough for me and i'm still stuck in windowze
because of dreamweaver.

You don't need to use !--#include file=file-- to do include cgi or
shtml, according to the PHP manual, you can use, virtual('filename'); (see
http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.virtual.php for details).
To include php files you would use, include('filename'); (see
http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.include.php for details).

Hope this helps,

Jamie

BTW http://www.phpbuilder.com is a great forum for php.

Every time that I've upgraded KDE, things were not good. I've found
that by getting rid of KDE then installing the latest is always the
better move. Sorry to say, mate.

Are you able to do that under your current circumstances?

(Or, if you're brave, what about deleting all references to KDE in your
home directory, then starting up KDE again? - there are dotfiles that
you can blow out - and as well, in the /tmp directory there are
references to KDE that can be wiped out as well)

Peace!

Re: [newbie] Advice-Setting up a dedicated server

2002-10-26 Thread - netmaniac -
Thanks for the reply, netmaniac. I would be interested in you opinion as
to whether I would be able to successfully be able to access my server
from the outside, being that I do not have a static IP from my cable
modem service provider and that I do not want to open up my firewall too
much. I wouldn't even consider dial-in to the server through the modem.

Look at this site for DNS domain forwarders for dynamic IP's.
This allows you to have connections to your home system without you needing
to
get your IP address to connect.
Like www.yourdomain.xxx or www.yourdomain.hostDNS.xxx will work for you.

you're welcome!
i'm using the cjb.net service for almost one year and it seems to work fine.
Just go to www.cjb.net and fill the form with your data. Then, select to
forward the address you have chosen to your machine's IP. It works very well
with dynamic IPs.
