Re: [newbie] compiling details
I hope I can help but I can only guess ... -I did ./config, make and make install with all of them, no problem with the smaller programs, but the big ones have either, - module dependencies, wich shouldn't be there cause the asked modules are allready installed (MICO asked for Qt for instance, but Qt definately is installed (what ever Qt is... I'm not shure about, but it shows as installed in the RPmanager)) That's funny .. usually if you download the source to sompile and they use autoconf then the script to run is ./configure then make then make install. Anyway ... that aside ... very often the place that RedHat and hence Mandrake place the library files is not in the place that the source normally looks for it ... my suggestion is to either look for the rpm for the program you want to compile (rpmfind.net should be a good start) or find out which are the library files that it needs and look through the README (or readme or Readme whatever) and INSTALL (install, Install, etc) to see how to specify the location of library files during either the configure or make stage. or - PERMISSION ERROR And yes..., I did run ./config etc... as root! I think I allready know the direction the problem is commin from: I do run the installation as root, but I do install in an users account. I have to, because there is not that much space left in /usr/bin IS THAT THE PROBLEM? The permission problem is a bit trickier ... usually if you are running as root, the script would have the permission to write stuff anywhere ... the only thing I can think of is that the file you are trying to run does not have executable permissions ... I am not sure whether this is any help but I hope I have given you some glimmer of hope in solving your problem... == E-Mail : [EMAIL PROTECTED] ICQ No.: 38756924 Public GPG Key : http://germany.keyserver.net:11371/pks/lookup?op=getsearch=0xA5D29407 People's Action Rules: (1) Some people who can, shouldn't. [newbie] Information of unsubscribing to the list
Hi ... I have been following the thread of mails on this list about people not knowing how to unsubscribe from this list. This is what I have to say and my suggestion to solve this problem. A lot of people join this list because they are newbies ... and I expect a great deal of them rely on a ppp connection via whatever means (the point I am trying to make is it may be slow or expensive) ... this list is extremely high volume in my opinion ... this is actually a good sign but not everybody is expecting the sudden fllod of mails coming in to his mailbox ... although I agree with some comments made ont his list that people should keep the subscription mail and read the instructions on it to unsubscribe I also think that we can be more accomodating to newbies having absolutely no idea what they are doing ... so might I suggest that someone (I am willing to do it) sends a short mail to the list every now and then ... (I was thinking one or two days) ... the subject line of this instruction can be made clear to everyone already on this list so that they can procmail or filter it off ... this is just a suggestion .. so try to be calm when you reply with your comments ... RE: [newbie] Configuration
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 I dont really get the apache question but if the website if remote then u can use somehting like wget to mirror the site. If it is local u can set a cron to copy the contents to another directory. Actually come to think of it u can use wget for the local as well just point to the loopback and set a cron to run it at predetermined intervals. As for your email question I think fetchmail and procmail combination is what u might be looking for. I am sorry but I have never used procmail but I know that u can configure it to filter base on headers and strings and stuff and make rules to deliver the matching messge to wherever. U can use fetchmail to pop (or imap) from different pop boxes by configuring the .fetchmailrc file in your home directory. The syntax is really easy to use. Hope I was of some help. Post again if u need more details. On 08-Jul-99 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi, I've just finished installing mandrake, and need to do some configuration. Can anyone tell me how to set up apache so that I can have my virtual server mirrored locally? Are there any good files explaining how to set up e-mail distribution? I'd like to download e-mail from a variety of POP boxes and divide on x-smtp-envelope: to different users (and some perhaps to launch perl scripts).
