[newbie] still troubles with SNF
Ok guys, maybe I'm thick...but this stuff is giving me a really bad headache I can see the internet from the firewall I setup with SNFI can see the firewall from a computer connected to the Hubbut if I try to use the dhcp server from the firewall it doesn't get any ip...and if I try to access the internet fromt he internal LAN...well..nothing happens. I noticed that when the firewall boots it fails adding local broadcast host route and when it shuts down it fails closing snort any idea were am I making some mistake??? [newbie] squid on single network firewall
Hi guys I just set up SNF on an old machineit loos like from the internal lan I can see the firewall computer for the setup and from the firewall I can see the external lan and the internet ( managed updating all the updatable packages from one of the madrake ftps)...but i cannot see the internet from the internal networkI suppose I have to set up the firewall to work as a proxy as well.the set up of squid works fine till I get to the point of setting up the allowed lan sourcei can inoput a single ip address or a mask or anything but when I press ADDwell nothing gets added to the list of the allowed onescan u please help me?? which is the right format??any suggestion or ideas is very very much appreciated Ciao Maurizio __ Abbonati a Tiscali! it's a p166mhz with 64 mega RAM it should be alright at least reading the system requirements. [newbie] single network firewall configuration problem
Hi guys, I'm trying to install a SNF to protect the computer of my research group , cos we are not very happy with the security offered by the university netrwork. All the computer have port 80 and 25(i think cos of the internal mail system) open on the external world and they work with NT on any other windows with Novel netware. we also have a spare PC on which I started installing the SNF by mandrakeit picks up the ip address automatically from the DHCP but when I tried to configure it from another PC using the web configuration tool it let me connect just once ...it looks like the university network recognized that that pc is working on a different port (8443 I think) and so it stopped the comunications.shall I ask the networking technicians to allow the communications on that port for that IP address or is there a way to make it work on port 80 ( and if yes...would it be safe???) any other help and advice is very much appreciated. thanks to every one ion advance Bye Maurizio __ Abbonati a Tiscali! [newbie] Single Network Firewall setup
Hi guys I finally convinced the supervisors in my university research group that our windows machines are not very safe as they are...they are connected to the net 24 hours a day with a couple of ports always open...and the information on thos pc are quite important...I thought we could use the Mandrake Single Network FIrewall (or smoothwall) to create an internal network and connect to the rest of university network and to the external world through such a secure firewall can anyone give any help or suggestion on how to set it up correctly...the network technicians here are useless (otherwise they wouldn't have ste up a Windoze network in the first place!) thanks in advance Maurizio __ Abbonati a Tiscali! Hi guys I was wonderingwell I'm using Linux Mandrake 8.1 on my laptop machine with a celeron 766 and 128 megs of RAM...and I'm using KDE at the moment.I'm pretty happy with it but I still didn't find a really satisfying office suite.Star Office takes about 20 minutes to load...the version 5.2 has the stupid desktop-like thingytotally useless..the version 6 seemed a bit better but still very slow...especially when it boots in the beginning...openoffice is the same stuff...but with worse fonts ..koffice is too beta..half of the stuff doesn't work as it should and the filters are not that good at alli tried even the hancom office suite demobut I'd rather don't give any comment about it...i could swear.is there any really good and fast office suite out theree?? with good filters and all the rest?? what happened to corel wordperfect??is it still downloadabe anywhere??is the last one I didn't try yet...but I cannot find it anywhereis it any good'??? hi everyone I just installed the rpm to use the netscape plugins with Konqueror..well...I cannot start konqueror anymore.any idea about why this is happening???or where should I start playing to fix it??? Try these lines (one line per device): /mnt/cdrom /mnt/cdrom supermount fs=iso9660,dev=/dev/hdc,ro,nosuid,nodev,exec 0 0 /mnt/cdrom2/mnt/cdrom2 supermount fs=iso9660,dev=/dev/scd0,ro,nosuid,nodev,exec 0 0 /mnt/floppy /mnt/floppy supermount fs=vfat,dev=/dev/fd0,nosuid,nodev,exec 0 0 After saving /etc/fstab with your new lines, do a umount -a and then mount -a Now they should mount automatically. Hi guys...i need some help with the configuration of Linux Mandrake 8...i've installed it on a Toshiba Laptop satellite pro 480...it's working fine...apart the Sound card(which is a Yamaha SAxx...and the keyboard(which is a swiss german layout keybord) is behaving weirdly...on some application the back space key works...on other no...and it's a bit annoying...all the rest of the keys seems to be alright...is there anyone who has any idea???
