[newbie] Printer Problem
Hi all, On my 9.2 box, I am trying to print to a network printer. I go through the MCC and try and set up the printer. When it tries to configure the printer, it comes back and tells me that it Failed to Configure the printer. I am at a loss, because I have had this printer set up before on different MDK machines with no problem, and there should be no difference in the way I set mine up with the way I set others up. Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks, Matt Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com Join the Club : http://www.mandrakeclub.com

I struggled this morning trying to find out why the 9.2 box could not print to my printer(s). PrinterDrake said that it saw all four instances of the printer (each set up with different parameters - but that's a different story) but nothing seemed to work. I'll try your solution. [newbie] Printer problem
I'm using Mandrake 9.1 with KDE 3.1. Printer is an Epson Stylus Color 400. Using OpenOffice 1.0.2. Printed for the very first time in Linux. Set off the print job, and the printer immediately started to print a load of rubbish - symbols , blamk pages . And it won't stop - except when I push the off button. If I turn it back on it just starts of again. I have tried every thing to stop it. Closed OpenOffice. Shut down and restarted - when I restart the printing begins at the login screen. I have gone into Windows in between Linux sessions and the printer is fine there. Is there a cure to this? Help. Please. Cheers, Chris K Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Cheers, Chris K There is an application called 'kjobviewer' which will allow you to cancel that print job. There is not a menu entry for it, so either start it from a terminal or use menudrake to create a menu entry. As for the printer itself. Is it just OpenOffice with the problem or does it print garbage in all apps? And have you tried rerunning printerdrake to check the printer configuration? derek BTW: Could you remove the Reply To: setting in your mozilla mail please? How come to set up your printer it does a test page perfect, But when you go to print a page it prints nothing but jumbled rubbish I tried all three print options still the same, Also I did a buffer clean out with lpq List jobs in the print queue. lprm [job number] Remove job from printer queue. lprm -a or lprm Remove all jobs from printer queue. but that did not work either. I had similar problems with my Canon 610. When I could get it to work, all it would print is garbage. The problem lies with Canon. If you follow the link I've posted you can read about my experience, And how it was solved. It might help you as well. http://twiki.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/view/Wikilearn/PolCanonBJC610Printer On Saturday 02 November 2002 03:16 am, you wrote: How come when you set up your printer, it does a perfect test page, But when you go to print a page from a standard text page it prints nothing but jumbled rubbish I tried all three print options still the same, Also I did a buffer clean out with lpq List jobs in the print queue. lprm [job number] Remove job from printer queue. lprm -a or lprm Remove all jobs from printer queue. but that did not work either. Walter I have a HP Deskjet 670C which used to do that when booting into Win98 when that was the only OS installed (for 12 months or more). Then June last year I installed ML8.0 and it stopped doing it when booting into win but was doing it when booting linux. Then in October I re-installed Win98 and installed ML8.1 and it doesn't do it at all! Go figure. BTW, it first started in Win98 when the printer had to be plugged into the parallel zip drive (and has been ever since). Re: [newbie] Printer Problem - BJC 4200 - prints garbage at bootup
skinky, Its not a queued file is it? Try lpq to see if there are any entries. Just a shot in the dark... I have fixed it! It meant killing a lot of lp processes under top as well as the cupsd. It was not a qued file - but it was still a file that was constantly being told to print - even after a printer reinstall. -- Walter Logeman Psychotherapist http://www.psybernet.co.nz Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? According to linuxPrinters.org it should work fine, but hardrake or config printer can't get it working. If I run config printer I get a message saying CUPS is loading, then after a minute or two it just drops back to KDE. What am I doing wrong? Thanx try this from a terminal rpm -qa| grep printpr If you get some responses to that, you have both cups and printpro loaded, which will keep them from working. Civileme

[newbie] Printer problem on a SCSI installation
I have a home built PC with a partitioned IDE drive and a 4 GB SCSI drive. I've installed Mandrake 6.1 in two places. A partition on the IDE drive and on the SCSI drive. On the IDE installation everything works fine (sound card, modem, printer). However, on the SCSI installation the printer will not work (sound card and modem work fine). If I su as root and launch the control-panel and bring up the printer configuration tool and attempt to add a new printer, the dialog for add printer does not detect any printers attached (I'm using the parallel port). I've checked my modules (shown below), but I still can't figure out what is wrong. Does anybody have any other ideas on where I might find the problem (and/or how to fix this)?
