Has this same problem with my camera until I realized that it wasn't /dev/sda.
When I tried mounting /dev/sda it would give me the same error you got.

Try mounting /dev/sda1. Thiis cleared up everything, mount even detected the
filesystem type automagically.

My camera is Mercury. I think it is a new camera
product. I'm not using a Memory Card; just using the
default's camera.
In M$ Win98, I try to connect to my camera; I must
install it's driver, and it is work. In M$ Win98's
Windows Explorer, I've get a new drive; that is my
camera's FAT. From this experience, I think the
problem is the module: usb-storage module.
Am I right ?? Or maybe Bryan have some links to update
my usb-storage module? Or have some tips for me

Thank's ++

My Kodak uses a 12-bit FAT

 of camera you have so
that we can do a little googling for others that may
 have howtos available.

That is a possibility. What type of media does it
 use? I have a HP
multifunction printer that you can actually plug
 most smart media into and
pull the files directly from the printer. That
might be an option you can
use if you have major problems with the camera.

If you use Reply but change the subject, you are hijacking. Many of
use prefer to read messages threaded. When threads are sorted they
use a couple of headers (you can see these if you enable Full Headers
in your mail reader) called Message ID and References. This means
that your new subject is seen as part of the original thread, which
makes it extremely difficult to follow.

From your point of view, there is also the fact that many people
choose to ignore threads that they can see are being adequately dealt
with by someone else. If your post comes in that thread those people
will not see it.Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft?

You need to mount the camera as a drive and then
 simply copy the files over.
Once you plug the camera in, you should get a new
 dev called /dev/sda. You
can mount that to /mnt/camera by issuing the command
 directly, or creating an
fstab entry and then once you mount the drive you
 can simply open it with
 Konqueror.

At least, that is how my Kodak works.

Iwan:
You hijack a thread when you create a posting on a new subject by responding
to an existing thread, hitting reply-to, erasing the subject line, and then
sending a new message that is not related to the original message. It really
messes up those of us who sort incoming messages by thread. Just create a new
message with a new subject line, and you won't get any more uglygrams from
Haywire.

Re: [newbie] USB mass-storage: HELP!

2003-09-16 Thread manolis
don't be optimistic about making your digital camera working with linux ... :(
I had a similar problem with a flash drive in USB and after many posts and
many many google search I ended up to make a conclusion that my drive IS NOT
supported from linux.
I have another USB stick that automounts and works fine ... but the first one
refuses to work.
Rules I made:
-If the device is working fine it will be autodetected by /dev/sd* structure.
-A device that appears on /dev/ structure doesn't implicity means that IS
compatible with linux.
-if the device is NOT compatible with linux , it will output error is fs type
when I try to mount it manually

Sorry for my not-so-optimistic post :)
