First of all, I don't remember ordering it from the web. Maybe I did, but I recall there was a whole to do about the orders shipping and apparently 1-800-New-Funk had lost a lot of the orders. Everyone went nuts trying to call and find out if their order was in the system and when it was going to ship. I remember I was on hold for three hours. When I finally did get an operator she informed me the computers just went down and she couldn't check the status of my order. I called the next day and after waiting an hour I was told they had no record of my order. If I wanted to I could place it again but would have to wait 4-6 weeks for delivery. I said no thanks and the next day I went to Blockbuster where it was on sale for less than the 1-800-New-Funk price, albeit without the Kamasutra CD. Web exclusive my ass! For this he gets an award? Normally I would have gone but because of some stupid nonsense at work I couldn't make it. I was also offered a front row ticket to a NIN concert tonight and couldn't make that either, but I digress. Did he really only do three songs? The sound didn't come across too well over the TV. How was it live? It looked like a total madhouse. I was reading on the NPGMC boards how some people got there at 1am. For three songs? And once again, he puts Tamar and the stupid twins center stage. He's more concerned about promoting her album than his own. Did anyone get a ticket for Butter? I didn't even bother trying. For those lucky enough to go, hopefully it won't turn out to be a fiasco. I can't believe all the people moaning on the NPGMC about how they couldn't get a ticket. People actually booked flights and ended up losing money because the tickets sold out in one minute. I saw quite a few posts from people who just joined the club so they could get a Butter ticket. I'm really curious to see what happens regarding tickets if and when he launches a full blown tour. You're never sure exactly what you're in for, and Planet Earth is no exception. Unfortunately this is one adventure that isn't worth the trip. It has it's moments, but it also has more than its share of duds which weighs it down. Sometimes I really have to wonder what's going through Prince's head. Between the whole British newspaper thing and the album itself, it's as if he's trying to deliberately jeopardize distribution deals. What major label will want to distribute future releases? Sure, I'll by the CD when it's released and maybe I'll hear something different then, but for now I'm really disappointed. P.S. Either they fixed the glitch or I got lucky. Once in, I noticed on the bottom of the list of the London shows it says, "Tickets will be picked up from Will Call on the evening of the show and the ticket buyer escorted into the Arena." Escorted by who? The Ticketmaster web site says, "Seats located on Level 4 are not recommended for those who have a fear of heights." Sounds like great seats. Oh, and there doesn't appear to be an actual log-in for members on the main 3121 screen, just the ability to sign up. I'm guessing for now any "perks" for members will come via email or mobile phone and the website won't contain anything just for members. While I'm excited at the prospect of three new albums this year, am I the only one who is fed up with artists releasing albums available only at one retailer? These retailers are usually either Target or Walmart. I rarely shop at Target and never shop at Walmart because I have issues with some of their business practices. I would dread the thought of Prince going exclusive with Walmart, and despite them being the largest retailer in the U.S., there are areas of the country where Walmart is not easily accessible. Take NYC for example, which doesn't have a single Walmart. I think Prince would be much better off going with an online retailer like Amazon. As far as this website where fans will also be able to buy, call me old fashioned but I prefer physical copies of my media. I hope he at least offers lossless files on this website. I've spent way too much on my audio equipment to be using it to listen to files encoded at 128kbps. Although I do have a lot of stuff at lower bit rates, when it comes to official studio recordings, I want the highest quality possible. This certainly isn't Prince's poorest effort but too much of it seems to be a retread of prior material. Of the two Prince albums, I prefer MPLSound, although the best songs are on LotusFlow3r. If he had combined these two instead (like he should have done with Emancipation), maybe we would have had a really good album. As for Bria, um, uh, well, I'm sure she'a a lovely girl. It's actually not that bad (or should I say it's not horrible) but one has to wonder how many copies actually would have been sold if it wasn't included as part of this set. I know I wouldn't have bought it. One thing I noticed about all three albums (especially MPLSound) is that they all suffer from clipping. This is unusual for a Prince album and a shame since some of the music is really good. Does anyone know if the downloads suffer the same fate? It should be interesting to see how this Target deal works out for Prince. Will the average Target shopper who is a casual fan or is still mostly familiar only with Purple Rain be picking this up? If they do, I think most of them will be scratching their heads upon the first listen. Caveat Emptor, as the price sticker on my CD says, "This item can only be returned if UNOPENED."
