RE: BB Storm management

2008-12-08 Thread gsweers
It should be mentioned that BPS or Blackberry Professional does not
support html and is only on the Sp4 revision currently. The Curves and
the Storms work fine, they just don't have the advanced functionality
like HTML and making modifications to advanced policies settings not
available in the Sp4 versions.

Device OS 4.5 is supported in BES 4.1.5 (4.1 SP5) Don't remember
about the policy question.

I concur with Martin that 4.1.6 is worth the time and trouble. I just
pushed a new version of 4.5 OS across the wire to a Curve.

The HTML E-mail is worth the trouble to upgrade your Curve Device OS
to 4.5. I can read mail on my curve without my glasses... :)

I just updated mine yesterday. It does work better but still not as
polished as the Iphone. Screen still takes sometimes a second to
realize the orientation. The media lags are very much reduced.

I upgraded my software using the desktop and had zero problems being
connected to a BES server, retained my settings, everything continues to
sync properly.

All in all I think I am pretty happy with it. Searching for names is
probably the more difficult function now as it requires 3 clicks to get to a
name vs just typing a letter to begin the sorting process. Voice dial has
become a very used tool now.

Typically when you upgrade the OS you need to reactivate the phone to the
BES server.

That usually means just sending them a new activation code and going through
the steps (Options, Advanced Options, Enterprise Activation). No need to
reset or wipe the device.

You may also try:

1. Options > Network > Click Thumbwheel > Start Provisioning

2. Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > Click Thumbwheel >
Register Now

On a side note, I have played with the Storm. Fantastic device UNLESS you
are a heavy email or text user. I just didn't enjoy the keyboard at all.

Anyone supporting these on BES? I have a couple of guys who got theirs and
its been working (they both hate them btw) and apparently there was some
software upgrade they applied this morning and blew out both their bes
connections. I went through and reset the phone, reset activation and no go.
Just wondering if anyone else has similar experiences.

That's the thing we did reactivate them and they don't sync up. I had them
reset the handheld, try to re-activate several times today and nothing.

The etp message makes it to the email but the phone never picks it up. Ill
get support on the phone on Monday.

In regard to the heavy user, these guys are travelling the world most of the
time and can't go an hour without email (else I get the call!) so that's
likely why they don't like them.

Since there is no thumbwheel or ball, click whatever the heck you are
supposed to click to simulate balls or thumbwheels.

While on the topic of new handhelds, I just got one my technician a HTC Touch
Pro. It has the most beautiful screen (full VGA) I've ever seen on a phone.
He can run a full RDP session with the terminal server. The Flow is nice
too...No Storms here yet...I'm sure they will come though.
