Hello,

We no longer support URL migrations, unfortunately. You will have to submit
a new app to use the new URL. Please do so from the same developer account
that published the old one (to avoid name clashes). When the new version is
up, you can remove the old (note: you will lose all users -- they will have

can't crawl pages then those ads have very low rpm.

At one point I know the Google Adsense for Games team was using Orkut
user profile data to target ads on application pages. I know because we use
Adsense for Games on BuddyPoke.. But I'm guessing, based on the drop of rpm
that Orkut is now completely blocking Adsense's crawlers, including Adsense

 Please help?

If it is unable to crawl using adsense ads is not effective on app pages.

/Application.aspx were not blocked, it would not be able to crawl it. So,
isn't this warning spurious? That is, the fact that Application.aspx is
blocked shouldn't alter your ads quality at all...

 Or am I mistaken?

 Thanks!

[orkut-developer] Re: robots.txt issue on orkut.com.br - blocking adsense crawler

2012-07-11 Thread davew
Hi Bruno,

Will the Orkut team work on resolving the Adsense crawler problems? In
order for app developers to support Orkut we need to make money on the
platform. To make money we need targeted ads. If Google's Adsense crawler
can't crawl pages then those ads have very low rpm.

At one point I know the Google Adsense for Games team was using Orkut user
profile data to target ads on application pages. I know because we use
Adsense for Games on BuddyPoke.. But I'm guessing, based on the drop of rpm
that Orkut is now completely blocking Adsense's crawlers, including Adsense
for Games? Why can't Google Adsense servers access Google Orkut pages?

Please help?

Thanks

 *New Application Development/Submission/Review Workflow*
 By btco, 2011-02-13

 *0. Before we start...*
*Warning #0:* The new developer page is working but please bear with us
as we polish some rough edges that still exist. Please read this guide
thoroughly before using the new page. The workarounds and known issues are
 highlighted
 in red.

*Warning #1:* Much of the information here overrides what is currently
written in other documentation posted in code.google.com/apis/orkut. If
you see an inconsistency, please follow what we say here instead of what
you see in the older documentation.

 *1. Sandbox signup*
**If this is your first time developing an application (or if you are
using a new profile you just created and you never developed an application
with it), the first thing you have to do is sign up for the orkut
 Developer Sandbox http://sandbox.orkut.com/SandboxSignup.aspx. If
you've already done that some time in your life with this profile, you
don't need to do this again. If you already had signed up for sandbox in
the old development/submission/review workflow, you do not need to sign up
again. It's the same sandbox, it's just a different process!

*[ Tip ]** Use a separate Developer Profile*
If you have a personal profile on orkut, please use a separate profile for
application development. This will make your life much easier and more
 organized!

*[ Tip ] If sandbox is ever offline...*
Yes, sandbox is offline sometimes because it's very new code and sometimes
it fails or becomes a little slow. If that's the case, please use Prod
Sandbox as an alternative (prod.sandbox.orkut.com). You don't have to
sign up for prod sandbox separately (your sandbox signup works for prod
sandbox too). Prod sandbox is a sandbox environment that's closer to the
production environment, since it runs the same binary and has similar flags.

 *2. Sign into sandbox*
**Sign into sandbox by going to http://sandbox.orkut.com. After signing
in, notice if the URL stays as sandbox.orkut.com. If it reverts back to
www.orkut.com, something is wrong -- you probably didn't sign up for the
sandbox! If you did sign up for sandbox and you are still getting thrown
back into www.orkut.com, it's a bug: please complain at the forum.

*3. Access the New Developer Page*
**The new developer page is located at
http://sandbox.orkut.com/Main#Developer. There is no link to it from the
interface (there will be soon), so bookmark this URL or memorize it to have
it handy. However, you can only access it *AFTER* logging into sandbox (step
2). If you try to go there directly without logging in first, you will get
a 404 error as if the page didn't exist.

If this is your first time developing an orkut app, please make sure to
read at least the OpenSocial Tutorial for
 Orkuthttp://code.google.com/intl/en/apis/orkut/articles/tutorial/tutorial.html,

but please bear in mind that the app testing/submission workflow written
there is *out of date* (use this one instead).

*4. Add your application to your developer profile.*
**To do this, just type the URL to its XML in the box that appears at the
top of the page (the one that says add an application by URL) and
clicking the add button. After that, you have to reload the page in
order for it to work. If you don't do that, your newly added app will not
show up. Just to be clear, this step only adds the application to your
developer profile so you can run it and test it, this does NOT cause the
application to be published. After adding your application here, it will
show in your list of applications and you can run it.

*5. Test and debug your app.*
**Now it's time to test and debug until your app is clean, shiny and
ready to hit the shelves. To run your application, simply click the View
button under its entry in the Developer Page. Once the app is running, you
will notice that the URL changes to something like

  http://sandbox.orkut.com/Main#Application?appId=12345678912345

The highlighed part above is your AppID, a number that identifies your
application. If you ever have a complaint or doubt about your application,
always mention this AppID, otherwise we won't be able to do anything for
 you.

 *6. My changes aren't showing!*

[orkut-developer] Re: App Reviewer issue. Want to send a complaint to Google

2012-06-18 Thread anatoly
Hi Bruno

thanks for the response.

to whom it may concern:
I'm a developer on Google platforms including OpenSocial on web and Android
on mobile for since 2008. My question is about the future of Orkut.
I was looking for a developer advocate responsible for Orkut but most
advocates are responsible for Android and Orkut is obviously out of focus
at Google and is the lowest priority project at Google right now.

This is sad since there are still many users on Orkut despite it's
popularity localized to Brazil only. Orkut platform has a robust
infrastructure.
Since I'm a developer on Orkut as well I don't want to see it's going down
like Myspace, Friendster and others. It's a developer's best interest
to have apps on as many platforms as possible.

Orkut team obviously mishandles the App reviewer issue.
App Reviewer on Orkut is semi-automatic. App Reviewer on Orkut is under
maintenance for more than 3 months.
There is no ETA. It is impossible to submit new apps. Generally I didn't
notice new platform features launched during a very
long period of time.

See previous discussion on App Reviewer here (Orkut dev official google
group):
https://groups.google.com/d/msg/opensocial-orkut/-/9yROvQb8w1sJ

This is not fair for Orkut community and for developers on Orkut.
What can be done about this situation? If there are more top priority
projects at Google now like Android there is no reason to abandon Orkut.
We're looking to acquire and maintain new users. One of the ways to achieve
this goal is to launch new apps.

your help is much appreciated.
thanks

I have a couple of questions about app reviewer.

 1) Is it working now ok? A month ago it was under maintenance but I

the format similar to to the example: Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons by
 Rovio on mobile

i.e. the format is a) [MY APP] b) [MY APP] SOMETHING

I think it should be fine since app names from the same developer could

I'd like just to verify that

Some time ago I developed a php library which allows you to send scraps.
There is a scrapall app to show you some demo code, and it handles captcha.

Hello! This is not an error, this is a captcha challenge.

Some requests on Orkut require the user to solve a captcha so that we
know the user is an actual human and not an evil robot. This is essential

So, when you receive a captcha challenge like this one, the correct
course of action is to show the captcha to the user and ask them to solve
it. Then you should resubmit your request with the captcha solution.

2012-04-09 Thread anatoly
Hi Bruno

thanks for reply.

It happens in Google Chrome only, but it seems like the most popular
browser on orkut I think...

I use it for navigation with parameters, i.e.

var canvas_view = new gadgets.views.View(canvas);

gadgets.views.requestNavigateTo(canvas_view, params);

and then on the page I use it, i.e. to get parameter

var navigatedParams = gadgets.views.getParams();

everything works though, it's just an alert that bothers users.

thanks

orkut-profile data to google+, but the only thing I can do for now is
 adding a badge to my orkut-profile that indicates I have a google+profile.
Unfortunately, adding that badge isn't easy: you have to copy/paste some
code, I can't find that code, and I'd suggest a blogger-like system, where
you can add a badge without dragging/dropping code snippets.

So, are there some plans considering google+ and orkut-integration:
 orkut-transfer/merging data with google+?

2012-03-27 Thread Thiago
Obrigado pelo retorno, Bruno.

Ficou claro.

[orkut-developer] Re: robots.txt issue on orkut.com.br - blocking adsense crawler

2012-03-15 Thread anatoly
Hi Bruno

there are several issues:
1) users should not land on /Application.aspx at all. You have an issue
with url rewriting in implementation of

gadgets.views.requestNavigateTo(canvas_view, params);
this call land on /Application.aspx
rather than on /Application

this should be fixed, I think it influences the crawler.

2) I'm not sure either /Application.aspx or /Application are behind the
login. Should they be behind the login? It's on the part of the app to
check the viewer, and if it is null
it should display a link to install, I think that is the flow explained to
us by orkut team over the years, (i.e. there should not be automatic
redirect to install page).

3) I'm getting also a lot of adsense crawler errors that the content is
behind the login on urls of the type:
http://682hjovlc0q8jnnr2ueel60s3q6v6sjc.a.orkut.gmodules.com/gadgets/ifr?url=http
...
http://k0bd715biegqe7vcf80atgebi24ng48e.a.orkut.gmodules.com/gadgets*
/ifr?url=http*...
http://o4c1teg8q13go818l55a4f0shnhr6r12.a.orkut.gmodules.com/gadgets*
/ifr?url=http*...
http://1kkb0un3av50ln5f3963qgkj20jmneil.a.orkut.gmodules.com/gadgets*
/ifr?url=http*http://1kkb0un3av50ln5f3963qgkj20jmneil.a.orkut.gmodules.com/gadgets/ifr?url=http
**...

etc.

Adsense crawler can crawl over authenticated pages if it can land on them,
i.e. if there is no redirect, etc.

I get thousands of crawler errors from adsense to fix, while you should get
them and not orkut developers since it is entirely out of developer's
control.
Since adsense and orkut is the same company, I think it depends on your
teams cooperation to resolve it and improve adsense quality. At the end of
the day google would earn more if there are more relevant adsense ads.

thanks

So, I've been discussing this with the engineers here. Adsense crawlers

isn't this warning spurious? That is, the fact that Application.aspx is
blocked shouldn't alter your ads quality at all...

 Or am I mistaken?

Hello,

We don't specify exactly what an active user is because we want to
reserve the right to change that definition as we detect that better
algorithms or definitions are better for the user. Same thing with the
exact ranking algorithm: we don't disclose exactly what it is because we
can't make promises about how it works or how it will work in the future.

I wish we could be more precise in how we specify it, but we prefer to say
it's undefined instead of publishing a spec that would change frequently.

Thanks!

Do you count profile installations? Apparently not. There are many

Thanks for the reply Bruno.

This must be a deal-breaker for many apps! I'm making a paint application,
and when the users spend hours creating really cool art reloading the app
is not going to work.

There is no way to prevent this by calling an opensocial.newDataRequest
from time to time?

How can I know if the time out has accured?

Thanks in advance.

/Andreas

Hi Bruno

I see the same order.
But what criteria it is based on now - just weekly visits?
So all visits equal e.g. 1 sec visit = half hour visit?

See this article Demystifying the app ranking criteria in orkut?
http://googlecode.blogspot.com/2010/08/demystifying-app-ranking-criteria-in.html
By Prashant Tiwari and Tiago Silveira, orkut Team

it seems very different now than what is described. Can you officially
clarify the new criteria?

thanks

It's totally wrong. Weekly users maybe one of the factors.

Once you had a sophisticated formula with weights of page impressions. What
 happened to that formula?
You should also count the time spent on the app per user per visit - this
is the measurement of the quality of the app.

Ranking based simply on weekly users is wrong and people will outspam and
 game the system.

[orkut-developer] Re: Can submit an App

2012-01-09 Thread ZZTop
Hi Bruno,

I'm stuck on step 4.
Witch is:

*4. Add your application to your developer profile.*
**To do this, just type the URL to its XML in the box that appears at
the
top of the page (the one that says add an application by URL) and
clicking
the add button. After that, you have to reload the page in order for
it to
work. If you don't do that, your newly added app will not show up

I'm stuck right there. I pressed the add button, I was able to see a
yellow message at the top
of the page saying that the app was added.
I did refreshed the page, but the app does not showed up.
Try several times. With both IE and Firefox.

Cheers!

2012-01-06 Thread newdev
Hello,
Thanks for your reply. But I'm very sure my xml was never down. The url for
xml is http://testappbysandeepanadahalli.appspot.com/vampirephysics.xml

And, the worst part of it is there's no error message saying the
application is not available.

I'd appreciate it if you could send me(the developer of the app) an email
before(or even after) taking down my app!!

Btw, I am still unable to access my game, not even from my sandbox.

Thanks!

[orkut-developer] Re: robots.txt issue on orkut.com.br - blocking adsense crawler

2012-01-03 Thread anatoly
I'm not sure it is related solely to requestNavigateTo

there are several app urls

1) orkut links (for example from profile page)
http://www.orkut.com/Main#Application?uid=1234appId=1234

2) PublicAppInfo
http://www.orkut.com/Main#PublicAppInfo?appId=1234
which redirects to
http://www.orkut.com/Main#Application?appId=1234
(which is similar to #1)

3) orkut implementation of OpenSocial method requestNavigateTo
goes to
*http://www.orkut.com/Application.aspx?appId=1234appParams=bla*http://www.orkut.com/Application.aspx?appId=1234appParams=bla
which briefly redirects to
http://www.orkut.com/Main#Application.aspx?appId=1234appParams=bla

adsense crawler reports errors on
http://www.orkut.com/Application.aspx
and
*http://www.orkut.com/Application*

since /Application.aspx and /Application are blocked by robots.txt
These are real urls before url rewrite so somehow it might be related to
url rewrite on orkut.

In any case you can just solve it by adding
User-agent: Mediapartners-Google
Disallow:

to robots txt (or just allow /Application.aspx and /Application for
Mediapartners-Google) which will not effect other crawlers
It will be in any case for Google's benefit (and for developers benefit).

2012-01-03 Thread anatoly
In any case unrelated to crawlers error you can unify
*/Main#Application.aspx?appId=1234appParams=bla*
**
with
*/Main#Application?appId=1234appParams=bla*
**
as
*/Main#Application*
**
is a standard scheme on orkut and only requestNavigateTo uses
Application.aspx

[orkut-developer] Re: robots.txt issue on orkut.com.br - blocking adsense crawler

2012-01-03 Thread Bruno Oliveira (Google)
We do not plan to modify robots.txt at the moment... but as far as I
understand, the crawler would not need to crawl over /Application, because
/PublicAppInfo does *not* automatically redirect to /Application unless the
user is logged in and has the app installed.

Since the crawler is not an Orkut user, this redirection would not happen
and it would never see /Application or any other page. At least that's how
it *should* happen :-) I've tested /PublicAppInfo myself while not logged
in (which mimics the way the adsense crawler would see it) and indeed it
does not perform any redirections that I could tell...

Thanks!

[orkut-developer] Re: robots.txt issue on orkut.com.br - blocking adsense crawler

2012-01-03 Thread anatoly
Hello Bruno
Google Adsense crawler crawls the page where the ad tag is placed - it is
on the application page
which is an iframe on orkut, when the crawler sees that the page is the
iframe it attempts to crawl it's parent page
(in our case it is /Application, /Application.aspx) which is blocked by
robots.txt.

Somehow it detects that the page is /Application and not /Main#Application.
I suspect the issue might be with url rewriting from /Application to
/Main#Application

I suggest to at least change requestNavigateTo implementation to redirect
to
/Main#Application instead of /Main#Application.aspx to make it standard.

Otherwise .aspx looks like a redundant orkut url format for pages.

Hello,

Just found a possible reason. Are you using PublicAppInfo or AppInfo as a
landing page for your ad? The correct is to use PublicAppInfo. If you are
using AppInfo, then it's normal to see this error, because AppInfo is not
open to the crawler, but PublicAppInfo is.

Can you check what your landing page is please?

Thanks!

Hello Bruno

I'm using PublicAppInfo everywhere, however I'm also
using requestNavigateTo and this method navigates to Application.aspx
(which is closed to crawlers)

var canvas_view = new gadgets.views.View(canvas);

gadgets.views.requestNavigateTo(canvas_view, params);

Can you check this please? Based on your info sounds like the bug is in the
implementation of requestNavigateTo.

Does it make sense?
