In US, you can patent everything.
Even the action of "Pointing the mouse cursor to click a button(Start
Button) to show Programs List." is already patented by M$.

My reply to Harris:

1 & 2. For our logo and branding, I think it is safer to register is as
Trade Mark. This can actually avoid some certain parties from using our logo
to do something else without acknowledge us, which it could lead to
dangerous situation.

3. I believe the OSDC scope still not really lari yet, because our
initiative, does bring up a lot of new developers. Without knowing, we are
actually brought up a lot of new users started to become developers.

Re: [osdcmy] RM 50m to Tricubes Bhd to develop 1 Malaysia SecureEmail Server

@Red1,
I believe most of us here, dunno the skill of:
"U bagi ni tender kat I, I charge RM50M, RM40M ko punye."
LOL

And by the way, It seems like even M$ don't know there is such deals going
on. Or else, they will be using this to advertise them self around. I smell
something more fishy behind this "Tricubes" project.

---
To the other ppl,

And at here, I would like to express out my thoughts about the KOSTEM
mailing list.
I'm sure a lot of you already realize this and never though of wanted to
voice it out.
As usual, I become the basher again.

Do you agree that there are too much noise in the mailing list of KOSTEM
which caused most of us who want to build up the Co-Op company to be delayed
for so long?

Do you agree that most replies in the KOSTEM mailing list, are actually not
any useful input, rather, they are just some 'hoohah' kind of response? I
believe more than 50% of the replies are such kind of replies in the mailing
list.

Do you agree that majority of the people who reply in the mailing list,
never showed up during our 1st meeting and just tumpang in the mailing list
for cheer only?

Well, if you answer these questions yourself, I believe you'll understand
why there is not much replies from people who really wanted to build up this
co-op company. Because of too much noise in the mailing list until we missed
those useful input in the mailing list to make necessary response.

Anyway, attack me as usual, this is not something new to me for getting
attack anyway.
:P

Re: [osdcmy] OSDC.my Pitch

2011-05-07 Terurut Topik Garfield WTF
I agree with changing the word "club" to "committee".
In fact, this is the word I used when I told ppl about OSDC, and I almost
forget the C, is actually "club".

Anyway, changing the C to "Committee" can in fact build the public
confidence on us.
For an example, the MOSC, sponsors will be more willing to channel a huge
amount of money into the event if it is organized by a committee of IT
professionals rather than channeling the money into a "Club" which giving
them an impression that "Club" is something like a group of professionals
hang around for leisure during free time only.

So it would strongly agree with the changes of the word C.

Sad to see that they still not yet add Debian into the server yet.

By the way, those who are currently using Debian, and usually using the US
mirror, you can now use this mirror.
*
deb http://mirror.debmal.my/debian squeeze main contrib non-free
deb http://security.debian.org/debian-security squeeze/updates main contrib
non-free
deb http://mirror.debmal.my/debian-backports squeeze-backports main contrib
non-free
deb http://mirror.debmal.my/debian-multimedia squeeze main contrib non-free*

This mirror is actually pointed to a Taiwan mirror which I usually use.
It is consider very fast to be use in Malaysia at the moment.

But hopefully, we can see Debian mirror in Malaysia soon...

But it is sad that some people do not think this way.
When you volunteer to help them, they expect the exact same thing they get

And when you tell them that you are not free and delay to assist them, they
dare to scold you like hell, as if they had paid you damn much, although

[osdcmy] Seeking For Volunteers

2011-04-06 Terurut Topik Garfield WTF
This has been discussed in the other mailing list.
I have proposed to do love video streaming during the MOSC2011.
Now, I need to seek for volunteers to join the streaming team.
Although I do not know will the streaming plan will be executed or not, but
it is best to assemble a team and do further discussion and planning first.
I will also do a simple training to the volunteers on how to operate a video
streaming, which it is extremely simple.

If you are interested, please reply here and let me know, I will try to
contact you for further information.
For those who do not agree to do the video streaming because of some
personal reasons, please do not sabotage this thread as this video streaming
plan is a community plan, thank you.
And also, I would hope that this thread will be remain clean without any
chitchat on unrelated matters.

*Requirement On The Video Streaming Volunteers:*
There is only a few very simple requirements only, which includes the stuffs
you need if you are coming for the streaming training/meeting.
Anyone without any video streaming experience will probably also able to
meet the below requirements.

   1. Know how to hold the mouse and point and click in web browser. (I
assume all of you know how to do this!)
   2. Have own laptop with Linux/MacOS desktop installed. (I assume majority
   of you already have that.)
   3. Have Mozilla Firefox 3.6+/4 Installed.
   4. Have Adobe Flash 10.2 installed. (Must be v10.2, not v10.)
   5. Laptop must have a webcam, or even better, a USB webcam. Preferably
   1megapixel above.
   6. Laptop have build-in microphone, or external microphone to attack to
   the jack. (Optional)
   7. If you a MacOS user, please have *Flash Media Live Encoder
3.2
   * installed. (Linux users no need to install this.)
   8. Able to stay in the MOSC2011 event venue for long period of time.
(Because we need to have at least 1 or 2 person to manage the streaming.)

Well, these requirements, I assume majority of you able to fulfill, as these
are the things you probably using them daily.
--

Besides the video streaming volunteers, there has been discussed about doing
interview with the speakers for the streaming.
Therefore, we might need volunteers who have talent to perform an interview
with the speakers during MOSC2011.

*Requirement On Volunteers To Do Interview:*

   1. Able to speak fluent English. (Because we will going to have a lot of
   speakers from oversea.)
   2. Able to handle awkward situation during the interview. (Because there
might be some situation where the speaker don't understand what are you
talking about due to the difference of culture.)
   3. Having ability to come out with questions which is not prepared on the
list. (Sometimes, some questions are not appropriate to ask, so you have to
replace them with some other questions. Or maybe if there is something you
think it is interesting during the interview, and think that it is best for
the audience to know, then you shall be able to ask some unlisted
   questions.)
   4. No camera shy. (The ability to not feel awkward when the camera is
pointing at you. Just threat it as a normal conversation, you are not on the
   CNN camera.)
   5. Ability to not asking stupid questions which might provoke the
speakers. (Yeah, the speakers are VIPs, don't piss them off. By becoming the
interviewer, you are actually represent the Malaysia OSS communities. Don't
make them have bad impressions on us.)

We might not doing the interview live, and just record and do a delay
broadcast.
But we will need a lot people to volunteer to take this task, as we will
need to select the few best interviewer to handle this task.
Anyone are welcome to volunteer for this task, and those who having
journalism experience will be an advantage to our OSS communities.
--

Please fill up the form at below link if you interested to join the video
streaming team or wanted to become an interviewer.

Please also help to spread this.

Thank You.

Re: [osdcmy] Mirror Mirror For OSS in Malaysia

For the 1U server, we can actually get something cheaper, such as lower than
1.5k.
If possible, get a 1U server for 1k.

The most important thing is the hard disk space, which we need at least 1TB.
We just host the most recent version of the distros, as well as 1 older
version of the distros, just in case there is still people are still using
them.
By not hosting those very old versions, we can actually able to support more
distro's repo in this 1U server.

@Yusof Khalid,
If possible, try to get the price a low as possible for the colo service.
Let us know the location of the DC as well, so that we can assign volunteers
to go to the DC in case of the server have hardware issues etc.

Re: [osdcmy] Mirror Mirror For OSS in Malaysia

2011-03-27 Terurut Topik Garfield WTF
I have 1 suggestion which I already suggested during the Inter-Distro
Workshop.

We all collect money to buy a 1U dedicated server, and put 1TB or 2TB hard
disk.
Then we colo the server at any datacenter, which cost around RM250-RM350.

Then, each of us sponsor RM20 or RM30 every month to pay for the colo
service.

For that 1U server, we host all major distro's repo. And only host x86 and

By this, we will be able to host a lot of distro's repo.
According to the Debian mirror setup tutorial, we are able to exclude with
architecture we do not want to host.

*Words:*
Connect = Konek
Debian Squeeze = Debian Picit
Desktop = Atas Meja
Laptop = Atas Peha

*Commands:*
fsck = **Perkataan Ini Telah Diharamkan**
cat /proc/cpuinfo = kucing /proc/cpuinfo
less = kurang

So, "*cat /var/log/auth.log | less*" will be "*kucing /var/log/auth.log |

Re: [osdcmy] Malaysian OSS Developer

2011-03-15 Terurut Topik Garfield WTF
I believe they mean by the attitude and mindset of Malaysia OSS developers
and the community.

As we can see now, majority of our developers and community people are
fighting each others. Not united at all. Always argue about the difference
and advantages of those OSS projects that they are supporting.

>From the most recent case, we can see that lots of distro supporters are
arguing with each others about how good is the distro they are supporting.
Even those Ubuntu derivatives distro supporters, are fighting with each
others.
Hey, come on! You are all under the same family, what for wasting time and
fight who is better?

What we actually need to do is to cooperate and make applications works on
all distros that have common platform, such as making sure an apps, able
works in all Debian and its derivatives, all Ubuntu and its derivatives as
well as works in CentOS and its derivatives, Fedora and its derivatives,
OpenSuse and its derivatives, FreeBSD and its derivatives etc.

We should now stop to fight about our difference and start work together for
a common interest. Well, because of majority of the Malaysian like to fights
about the difference, this also made Malaysia labeled as a racism country
where all race are fighting about their differences. If we all want to move
forward towards a better future, stop fighting about our differences. Work
together for a common interest start from now on! Change our mindset!!!

Guess what? Because of a lot of people fighting about their derivatives
distro, and argue with each others, this also made me decided to stop my
DN-A (Debian Netbook-Angel) project. Because I don't want to see there is
another Linux distro derivative appear and sparking more arguments.
We have a lot of Linux distro already anyway, no point fork out something
which have not much difference to cause more controversy...

There is a lot more I wanted to say actually, but lets see how you guys
react to what I have written above 1st...

@ApOgEE,
I kinda agree with u...
Anyway, this also reminds me of 1 of my friend who over extreme about
Ubuntu.

As you all know, usually when ppl buy shared hosting accounts, they will
looks for cPanel at the 1st requirement.
As a hosting provider, to install cPanel, I have to use CentOS (although it
can also install in Fedora, RHEL or FreeBSD).
As you all know, cPanel can't run in Debian/Ubuntu.

Guess what, that friend of mine, thought that he is smarter than my 4 years
of hosting experience and asked me to use Ubuntu for all my servers, and
asked me to convert all my servers that is running other distro to
Ubuntu!!??

When I told him that cPanel only runs on redhat family, and guess what he
said?
He said just give the customers ftp access and mysql account, if they refuse
to accept it, ask them find other hosting provider...

I wonder if he start a web hosting company, how long his hosting business
can sustain...

Anyway, it is ok to run Debian/Ubuntu if I am providing DirectAdmin
accounts. In fact, I do sell DirectAdmin accounts which hosted on Debian
servers.

But hey, asking me to totally convert my whole infra to Ubuntu just bcoz he
supports Ubuntu, that is too extreme and idiotic!!

Anyway, I hope I did not offend any of the extreme Ubuntu supporters.
I am just voicing out my opinion and my experience on people who are over
extreme on certain distro and ignore the necessity...

I agree with doing an inter-distro workshop again.
I think it is the best way for people from different distro background to
stay under the same roof and have a neat discussion face to face, in order
to achieve peace.

We have to stop this madness as soon as possible.
It is already 2011 now, distro wars should not happen again...

@Syazwan, darkness
I dun think it is a good idea to bring this matter into the MOSC2001 until
all the misunderstanding is cleared up among the distros supporters.
If bring the current argument into the discussion during MOSC2011, it will
just risking the whole event. We can't let war happen during the event.
So it is best if we settle the issues/misunderstanding earlier so that we
may have a peaceful discussion of future plan, if we want to do a
inter-distro discussion during MOSC2011.

Oi! WTF is wrong with you guys!?
People from distros which uses dpkg fighting each other!?
WTF!?

@simpleLinux
I do somehow agree with your points too, but the way you express it, a
little bit too harsh.
You are consider as an old timers in the OSS community too, so you should
know that sometimes when we talked to harsh, might spark a distro war.
Especially when you are representing a distro project.
So I think it is best we try our best to educate the newcomers and guide
them for the benefit of the OSS community. We don't want those M$ fanboys to
looks down at us for fighting each others, don't we? :)
But anyway, the points you have voices, I do agree with them. :)

@Dev
No offense, but they way you walk into this discussion is a little bit rude.
What I mean is, you should have talk in a proper way instead for straight
shooting to simpleLinux and also the rest of the people in this thread who
are asking question instead of giving opinion.
Not everyone is shooting at My1OS in this thread at the moment.

By the way, since My1OS is still fully dependent on Ubuntu's repo, I think
you guys should make it available for the public to download the ISO, and
sell the support service separately.
I believe that My1OS is not suitable to use the RedHat way to make it
commercial for the moment.
Here is the reasons:

   1. Huge parts of RHEL are done by RedHat themself, of course, they were
build based on OpenSource components. While My1OS, it is built based on
Ubuntu, which its entire structure remain the same as Ubuntu.
   2. RedHat is charging for the subscription to their own repo, which is
done by them self, and hosted by them self. My1OS is still solely dependent
on the Ubuntu repo, and as we all know, the Ubuntu repo is free for public.
   3. RHEL's source code are available for the public for free. Thus, CentOS
exist, where it is entirely the same as RHEL, and this is how RedHat let the
public use RHEL for free and settle themself without providing official
support from RedHat. So, if My1OS is an OpenSource project, then the codes
that is added to the original Ubuntu shall be release to the public as well.
At least, it shall be available for the public to download and use without
giving them official support. But so far, I can't seems to find any download
   links at the My1OS website.
   4. To make My1OS able to be commercial, I believe just adding something
on the original Ubuntu is not enough. It should have something more.
Example, My1OS shall prepare own repo for as an additional repo inside the
My1OS for regular updates on the components which has been added onto the
modded Ubuntu of yours. Or else, it doesn't really make sense for people to
pay for the distro copy if they are just able to have access to the Ubuntu
repo which it is free for the public to access.

You may feel that I am trying to attack you. But I would like to make it
clear, I am not shooting at your project, I am just voicing out my own
opinion from what I see so far.
By the way, please do not tell me to buy the distro, as I do not intend to
purchase anything at the moment. But I do hope to see a demo from you and
your fellow developers during some OSS events. Also I hope that you can made
it on the next inter-distro meetup and introduce your My1OS project to the
community if you wish to convince the public that your distro are worth to
be a commercial distro. Via these type of meetups or events, it is the best
way to stay those to the OSS community and eliminate any misunderstanding
among supporters of each distro.

@Khalid Mohd
I think it is best to be polite rather than just come in here and straight
make enemy with everyone.
It is ok to defend on the project that ourself working on. But still, since
it is an OpenSource project, you should be good with the rest of the people
in the OSS community. An OSS project will only be successful with the
support of the community, be it your own project's community, or the whole
OSS community in whole.
By the way, as you said, the DVD burning and packaging of the cover do need
cost. So wouldn't it be great to make it available for the public to
download the ISO and burn the ISO them self?
Anyway, I am not trying to be offensive to you, but I do hope that you can
be more polite. Most of the time, people judge hows a group by how a member
for that group behave. So I believe you wouldn't want people to think more
negative about your group now, right?

Finally, I hope everyone to stop engaging in distro wars. Its year 2011 now,
distro wars shouldn't be still continue until now.
In fact, all people from dpkg based distro should stop fighting! Have you
every see CentOS guys bashing Fedora? I hardly see such case happen. This is

No offense to those which I may offending.
I realized that nowadays, a lot of newcomers in the FOSS community are those
people who are not really willing to make any effort contribute anything.

They do not contribute codes, when they did some enhancement on the FOSS
softwares. They just keep it to themself.
They do not even consider to assist in any event for promoting FOSS to the
public, although they do have plenty of free time during those event.

Some of them, join these FOSS groups mailing list or become member on these
FOSS groups website just to make themself feel that they are 1337 by joining
these groups. They feel that they are more 1337 than everyone when they join
into some groups where a lot of people using Linux/Unix.

Some of them are worse. Aside from those I mentioned above, they are
treating the community as a place for flirt female geeks. They feel that
able to have a chance to flirt female geeks make themself geekier.

These kind of thinking is not healthy in the community. Before we can do
something to demand changed from the .gov, we need to start educate these
newcomers to behave as well as make sure they are in the community for the
same reason with us, which is fight for freedom/libre of codes, spreading
the knowledge of opensource to more people.

I believe a lot of you guys do realize these issues recently.
Sometimes, we really need to be strict to these newcomers who joined the
community for the wrong reason and educate them the real spirit of FOSS.

Well, if there is anyone wanted to argue about the female geeks flirting
part, please feel free to ask for some chat logs from me as evidence. I have
a lot of these logs with me. Lol

No offense everyone.
But usually when I see there is something new suggested and started to be
implemented. There is a lot of hoo-hah around.
Everyone are also join in the discussion and saying that they will be part
of it and work on it.
But when it started to run, those who had saying that they will confirm be
part of it are no where to be found.

It is ok if we just give suggestion if we are unable to be part of it due to
certain reason. But if already telling everyone that you will be part of it
and work on it, please really do so and not just hoo-hah in the mailing
list.

I know a lot people will going to bash me after I posted this.
But so far, this is what I have seen.
In 100% of those who talking very loud that they will be part of it, only
15% of them turned out at the end. The rest 85% are no where to be found at
the end.

Therefore, I hope those who did say that they will be part of something,
they will really do as what they have said, unless there is some unavoidable
reason which ceased them to doing so (ie: last minute job's assignment,
family issues etc).
This statement does not refer to this mailing list thread only. It also
applies to other threads as well as other mailing list as well.

If anyone feel offended with what I have said, I am sorry about that.
This is just what I've seen and what I've feel at this moment.

Again, sorry if anyone feel offended with what I have written at above.

I think the easiest way now for us to do so, is buy installing freebsd in
our own desktop or laptop to try it out.
Then list out the hardwares that is compatible and also list out which
hardware which can't work while using freebsd.
By collecting information like this, it will be easier to track down which
hardware are supported and what hardware are not supported by default.

err.?
cara installation suse betul-betul susah ke?

mula-mula nye, i pun rasa agak susah, sebab x pernah guna suse yg version
selepas 7.2.
mase tu masih xde zypper lagi, hanya ade yast saje.

so semalam, i cuba install & guna suse 11.0 (then upgrade to 11.3).
at first, memang rasa agak susah, sebab x pernah guna zypper.
then lepas 1 jam, i dah rase sebenarnye zypper adalah amat mudah untuk
digunakan.
asalkan dah biasakan diri dgn sedikit mase, suse sebenarnye bukannye susah
sangat untuk digunakan.
:P

dalam mase 3 jam je, i dah dapat menguasai opensuse dan i dah mampu untuk
buat openvz templates opensuse11.3 & submit kat openvz untuk ditambahkan ke
templates repo dia org.

since noob yg macam aku ni pun boleh belajar guna suse dlm mase yg singkat
macam ni, ia bermakna suse tu sebenarnye amat mudah untuk digunakan.
