[otrs] emails with large attachments takes very long

2010-04-07 Thread Patrick Schiess
hi,

first my setup:

otrs 2.4.7
win 2003
mssql 2008
perl 5.10
apache 2.2.10
mod_perl 2.0.4/dev

we are experiencing that sending emails with large attachments ( 5MB) through
otrs takes very long. i am talking about 2 minutes or even more... 4 minutes
when the attachment ist about 10MB. i tried to change the storage placement
from DB to FS, but it didn't change anything. unfortunately i don't get any
more specific informations in the log files.

does anyone have some similar issues or maybe someone of you guys has a
solution to this problem ?

thanks for your help.

regards,
patrick.

Hi Patrick,

An obvious question would be: is the mail server the component here
causing the trouble?
If adding the attachment to a note takes as much time as adding it to
an email, it is caused by OTRS. Otherwise, your mail server is the
bottleneck here.

Re: [otrs] emails with large attachments takes very long

2010-04-07 Thread Patrick Schiess
hi michiel,

thanks a lot for your answer.

so, i did the comparison. everything excepting sending an email is pretty fast
(about 2-5s für 10MB). sending an email with 10MB as an attachment takes about
3 minutes. at this point you will say, that there is a problem with the
mailserver... but i am not sure. if i really had a problem with the mail
server, then i would experiencing exactly the same behaviour with unsing an
email client... but the email client sends also pretty fast and so i would say
that this is not the bottleneck. what about perl? if i understand otrs code
well, there is a transformation into base64 and during the 3 minutes trying to
send the email, i recognize a very high load of the server cpu (100% on one
core). don't you think that there is another problem that is maybe placed into
the transformation into base64 or maybe something directly with perl...

thanks again for your help.

regards,
patrick.

[otrs] Emails via IMAP is fetched by server but never gets inserted to SQL(OTRS)

2009-06-03 Thread Daniel Tangen - Trigcom AS
Hi,

I have installed OTRS successfully and setup an IMAP account towards an
Exchange 2003 server.

This worked fine for a while but then stopped working.

The IMAP service is running on the Exchange server.

I've installed wireshark (network analyzer) to see that the email is
fetched via IMAP protocol into the server when the cronw is running.

I can see that it finds the new email, fetches it, deletes it from the
Exchange server, but it never gets inserted into the SQL database.

Anyone have any idea where I can search for the error?

Server:

Windows 2003 Server SP2

OTRS v. 2.3.4

CronW (for fetching emails) (uses crontab.txt)

Best regards

Re: [otrs] Emails via IMAP is fetched by server but never gets insertedto SQL(OTRS)

2009-06-03 Thread Daniel Tangen - Trigcom AS
Found the problem.

I had changed the priority names.

Eg.

Priority:

3 normal - 3 medium

When I changed it back from 3 medium to 3 normal it problem was
solved and emails was inserted into SQL again.

The setting can be adjusted at OTRS - Admin - System-Priority

I found this by looking at the log files under:

C:\Program Files\OTRS\OTRS\var\log\otrs.log

[Wed Jun  3 12:56:01
2009][Error][Kernel::System::Ticket::TicketCreate][422] No PriorityID
(invalid Priority Name?)! )

[otrs] eMails with wide characters blocking mailbox

2007-03-09 Thread Falko Zurell

Hello,

I got an OTRS installation on a Redhat ES Linux 4 box. This OTRS
fetches mails from our Exchange 2003 server. Sometimes there are
mails with special characters in the subject header. The OTRS
PostMasterPOP3.pl will fail on these mails and thus no tickets will
be fetched until this blocking mail is removed manually from the
Mailbox.

The problem seems to be in one of the Perl-Modules OTRS is using.
This is the error message I get when running the PostMasterPOP3.pl
from the command line:

Message 3/17 ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
Wide character in syswrite at /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.5/Net/Cmd.pm line 436.

Is there a way to fix this problem?

Thanks and kind regards

[otrs] Emails from Agent appear as from Customer in 2.1.2

2006-10-26 Thread Wes Plate

For some of our tickets we generate information in another database that is
emailed to the customer, and our OTRS system is CCed. In the past (1.3)
these emails appeared in OTRS as agent messages, but now in 2.1.2 these
appear as customer emails and generate follow-up notices.

Can I change this behavior?

Use the Postmaster Filter.
There, first you have to recognize when a mail comes from your other DB
which CC's to OTRS. Then set e.g.
* X-OTRS-SenderType to agent or system or a self-defined value (which
must be added in DB-table article_sender_type
* X-OTRS-ArticleType to e.g. note or a self defined article-type (e.g.
db-note) which must be added to DB-table article_type

Hi Richard,

To reformat your outgoing OTRS Email, simply add the following to Config.pm :

$Self-{ResponseFormat} = '$Data{Salutation}

$Data{StdResponse}

$Data{OrigFrom} $Text{wrote}:
$Data{Body}

$Data{Signature}
';

If you don't want the original message displayed remove :

$Data{OrigFrom} $Text{wrote}:
$Data{Body}

Re: [otrs] Emails

2005-06-08 Thread Richard Hamson

Graeme,

That was a big help - many thanks. Out of interest I only noticed this code
in the Defaults.pm file and nowhere else. Where does OTRS draw the default
configuration from if the code doesnt appear in the Config.pm file?

Richard

Hi Richard,

To reformat your outgoing OTRS Email, simply add the following to Config.pm
:

$Self-{ResponseFormat} = '$Data{Salutation}

$Data{StdResponse}

$Data{OrigFrom} $Text{wrote}:
$Data{Body}

$Data{Signature}
';

If you don't want the original message displayed remove :

$Data{OrigFrom} $Text{wrote}:
$Data{Body}

 Is it possible to change this so new text is automatically added above

Hi Richard,

I have often wondered that myself, but never had the time to investigate

Perhaps one of our fellow list members may be able to enlighten us.

hi,

this works quite simple (afaik)
at first it reads the defaults.pm and
then config and overwrites everthing that is found there.
defaults contains all vars (and will
be updated if you update the system, so keep your hands off...)
conffig only the ones that you like
to modify.

just .02 euros.

Hi!

Yes, thats absolutely right. All default settings come from Defaults.pm
and are overwritten by the settings in Config.pm. In 2.0 the Defaults.pm
is splitted in some more files located under Kernel/Config/Files, but
also the Config.pm is the right place for personal settings.

RTFM :-))

Copied from the manual:
-
OTRS has many config options. There are two config files. Kernel/Config.pm and
Kernel/Config/Defaults.pm.

Kernel/Config/Defaults.pm is the default config file which should not be
changed. You will find all possible config options in this file. Is quite
simple to read.

Kernel/Config.pm.dist is the example file for Kernel/Config.pm (custom config
file) which must be copied (cp Kernel/Config.pm.dist Kernel/Config.pm).

How it works! The Kernel/Config/Defaults.pm (default config settings) is loaded
at first, then the Kernel/Config.pm (custom config file). So if you want to
change the default config settings, copy (copy and paste) the needed options
from Kernel/Config/Defaults.pm into Kernel/Config.pm and change the values like
you want.

Peter
