Re: Question About Trial Version Of Gold Wave

2010-07-19 Thread Marijan Janev

Do you know if Studio recorder supports multitrack editing?
I have heard many good things about it but personally I haven't tried it
yet. If it has this feature, it will be excellent alternative to
multiquence or n-track.

Rob Tabor said the following on 19.7.2010 0:09:

Good evening, Howard and listmembers.
There are much more expensive audio reprocessing packages, e.g.,
Studio Recorder by the American Printing House for The Blind

http://www.aph.org/
, which allows you to hear audio as you are highlighting a sound clip
to manipulate or modify. A second advantage of Studio Recorder is that
it was developed for use by blind users, therefore, no script is
required to make it fully accessible right out of the box.

Best regards

Re: multi-tracking software.

2009-05-14 Thread Marijan Janev

Multiquence is not accessible at all.
For professional purpuses, Jonathan is right, gold standard is Sonar.
But otherwise, don't forget n-track. I've never
used it, however many blind people say that it's a great program.

Jonathan Mosen said the following on 14.05.2009 01:20:

Yes that one's called Multiquence. I don't know how accessible it is, Sonar
seems to be the gold standard for multitrack and accessibility although
Audacity is one to watch.

For a really good implementation of sound on sound, which is what Sound
Forge, Goldwave etc do, Studio Recorder is amazing since you can actually
hear what you're recording over.

the files will be played in a 10 minute information loop I have also
been looking at perhaps purchasing station playlist. I have tried out
some of these files in the Microsoft media player, but I am not happy
with the way that they appear on the list. The last time that I tried
winamp it seemed to be more user friendly, as I could see the sequence

wouldn't cost you anything. I don't know if you use a mouse and hence have

When you open SF noise reduction in goldwave you can tab to move through

The bilt-in noise reduction in the last versions of goldwave is better

surprised how good sounds a file after using the GW bilt-in noise
reduction in 5.25 when I hherd for a first time.
I don't know how to use Total recorder noise reduction in goldwave yet.
Or you think to use it in total recorder itself??? In that case, I tried

enough? I've not tried it so I'm not going to pass judgement.

Secondly, there are other noise reduction plug-ins around if the
Goldwave facility is just oh! so! bad, perhaps you may wish to point
your browser to http://www.totalrecorder.com and trial the one on
offer there? Certainly! (as far as I know) its a damn lot cheaper than
the Sound Forge Noise Reduction plug-in, you'll have no trouble using
this at all with Goldwave should you have to.

Re: Mp3directcut tutorial

2007-08-25 Thread Marijan Janev
Thanks Ken, but it's for the mp3 clip.

Kenneth Suratt said the following on 25.08.2007 17:21:
 MP3 Clip

MPE Clip allows you to split mp3 files into tracks. For example, to split
one MP3 file into 3 files, the first minute of the song, then the middle 45
 seconds,
then the last minute of a song.

You can use it with winamp and you have to have both programs running at the
same time. Run winamp and have the song loaded, but not playing yet. Then
 start
MP3 Clip. Tab to the load button and enter. This opens a typical open file
dialog, locate the the same song you loaded in winamp and press enter. Then
tab to the set button. This opens a typical save dialog, tell the program
what to call the split file and what folder to save it in. It will then add
 the
track numbers automatically. For example where it wants a file name, if you
put in TestSong and you split the MP3 into 3 parts, they would become
 TestSong0.mp3,
 TestSong1.mp3 and so on.

Now alt tab back to winamp and start the song playing. Now alt tab back to
the MP3 Clip program. Anytime you want to split the song, enter on the grab
 winamp
time button. You can do that and split the file as many times as you want.
When you're done Press control S for the start button and MP3 Clip will do
 the
rest. It doesn't give you any indication it is finished, but it doesn't take
long, so wait and go check the folder where you told MP3 Clip to put the
 saved
 tracks.

Control tab to find the MP3Join Tab dialog and options. Enter on the set
button and this opens a typical save dialog, tell the program what to call
 the
joined file and what folder to save it in. Enter on the Add file button and
continue adding all the files you wish to join. When ready, press control S
 for start.

You can use total recorder to convert any .wma file to .mp3 without

Those familiar with Total Recorder are aware that in silent recording mode,
Total Recorder will record at many times the speed of the original
recording. I can not, however, find a way to have Winamp silently play a
sound file into Total Recorder faster than 2.6 times it's original speed.
Would anyone care to theorize whether it is a limitation of the output
 plug-in or the DSP plug-in?

One think that i have problems with in Goldwave is the keystrokes for
selecting.
I am using a Swedish keyboard and i havnen't really found out if it is the
[ and ] sings that is telling goldwave to set start or stop markers or if
its the specific key for the american keyboard which tells it to set the
markers.
When i press the key for the markers and am using swedish keyboard one is
for the swedish letter å and one is for typin accents and such.
Are you understanding what i am talking about here?
Ist very hard to explain it in understandable englis.

From what I can gather, you cannot record each channel individually as
separate recordings.

Re: sf plugins - was - Re: Fw: New Sony Sound Forge 9: SpecialUpgradeOffer

2007-04-10 Thread Marijan Janev
Hi Anders,

You can get the best results using goldwave noise reduction if, firstly, you
select a part of the file which contains only the noise you'd like to
reduce, then copy the selection to clipboard, and then open the GW noise
reduction dialog box. Now you should choose from clipboard, an you can
scale various values and accept the right one you think that is adequat for
you.

But, the results are far away from those you can get using SF noise
reduction plug in, unfortunately.

I haven found out how to make the GOldwave noise reduction works.
ANd how to get the best results out of it.

The newer Goldwave builds will have this kind of ogg support butt if you are
running an older version do a Google search for k-lite-codec and when
installed, this will give you lots of open and save choices you won't
otherwise have.

Btw Dana, I added a JFw dictionary manager entry of your name so I won't

Hi. I can say for sure that Total Recorder edits ogg files
directly. I don't know about how it edits wma files because I don't
use them very much. I use ogg files for almost everything these
days. I have recorded wma files with Total Recorder 6 though, and
the sound quality is very rich and clear. You might have a look at
the FAQ on the Total Recorder web site to find out how it processes
data for the wma files.

pro version because of its feature set, but the standard version
edits well too. Go to:

Re: screen friendly wma editor

Kevin,
Blaze media pro doesn't convert .wma file into .wav to edit it, but it edit
the file directly in .wma format. That's wy I wish to use it because I avoid
the further losing of quality.
The way you describe is how works goldwave or other .wav sound editors.
I really like goldwave and sound forge very much, but they are not the best
choice in this case, unfortunately.

I'm assuming that editor converts the WMA file to WAV and then allows you to
edit and saves back to WMA? If that's the case then you could use goldwave
to do the same.

Are you sure that Total recorder can directly edit the .wma, .ogg files?
Sevearl years ago I installed it but I didn't like it at that time. I can't

Maybe last versions have it?
Thanks very much!

Hi.

I've just taken a look at this software as I was curious having never seen
an editor for WMA files that didn't have to convert to WAV firstly. I can't
see any detail in the WMA editor section that says that no conversion
happens first though it does say that it can record directly to WMA.

Can you provide a link where it states that editing WMA needs no conversion
to WAV by the software firstly?

Thanks.

Does any of you have an experience with another wma editor which is more

Press alt+o to open the Option menu, arrow down to plug-ins, then right arrow

Now you are in the list of all DirectX plugg-ins installed on your computer and
you should chek only that you want to use in GW pressing space. Then tab to OK.
Good luck!

 Yes it will!
If I want to change a file to something specific, here is what I do.
I open the file in GoldWave, and then just choose the save as dialogue,
 and
then save the file with the attributes that I want.
Example I may open a .wav file, and then save it as an mp3, at 44.100,
 128kbps stereo.
Now I have 2 files with the same name, but with different attributes.

bit file at 44,100 Hz? Gold Wave seems to have come a long way in the
years, I remember it as a shareware program with simple usage, it seems
much more complex and giving Sound Forge a run for the money from what it
 says it can do anyway.

Previously I posted inquiring about a recording software to record at
 128
bit. Perhaps there is an MP3 converter that will do that as opposed to
 a
recording software? Below is the requirements for my MP3s, perhaps I'm
amiss but I'm assuming they are talking about a 128 bit file. Sound
 forge
only maxes at 32 bit and Gold Wav 24 bit. 128 seems high to me but it
 is
what they require. How could I achieve this? Here's the requirements...

Your song must have the following settings:
 Constant Bit rate
 Bit Rate: 128Kbps
 Channels: Stereo
 Frequency: 44100Hz

 Thanks for any help.

Looking at Gold Wave's details I see it converts to a 24 bit file.
Previously I posted inquiring about a recording software to record
 at
 128
Here's the
 requirements...

Your song must have the following settings:
 Constant Bit rate
 Bit Rate: 128Kbps
 Channels: Stereo
 Frequency: 44100Hz

 Thanks for any help.

Hi guys,
I hardly use Real Player and I mostly use winamp or windows media if I have
to. I made it a point to get rid of real player as soon as possible. I found
a nice alternative in a program called real alternative. When you lode it the
player comes up as media player classic but it will play all the real
streams. Go here for the program:
http://www.whitestick.co.uk/progs/realalternative145.exe
go here for more information about the program:

Okay, for some take a look here.
http://www.arboretum.com/

You'll find flangers, frequency shifters, pitch shifters, pass
filters, bass boosters, echo chambers, reverb units the works. I
know they're accessible through my PC, I use them with Sound Forge
and Adobe Audition. When i find accessible audio editing software
for my Mac Mini, I'll be purchasing the Mac versions and giving them
a work-out to see what I can make of them.

 Hi Jamie,

Andrew and I along with other contributors who helped write the Winamp
scripts really appreciate the fact that you find them useful even if
 others
don't. I don't know if you've ever tried using the time marker feature?
 It
is really good for marking spots in audio books or marking out tracks in a
single MP3 which contains a whole album within it. Also you can resume
 from
the same spot in the file which you marked. Not only that you can create
multiple time markers. Check it out if you haven't already. We built
 that
 into Winamp via Jaws scripting.

TJ, I apologize if my comments annoyed you. I began using a computer in
 1990
with a screen reader called ISOS, DOS 5.0, and Word Perfect 5.1 with 30
minutes of training on how to use a computer. Thank God for Mastering
 Word
Perfect available from what was then just plain old RFB on cassette, and
 a
Braille book on DOS 5.0 from NLS. I can remember many nights going to bed
 a
2 in the morning wondering of the $2500 I'd spent on a computer was a
 total
waste. I have absolutely no trouble today using Audible, iTunes, my iPod,
web-based e-mail when necessary, and Money Talks to balance my checkbook.
The blind community has come a long way in 15 years. If some scripts can
tell me that the Winamp equalizer is open, that I am listening to track 3
 of
a CD, that the title is Mary Had A Little Lamb and that there is 1
 minute
40 seconds remaining in the track, I'll take that and be grateful. If I
 have
to do a bit more work to make a program work, I'm quite willing to do
 that.
I don't work for Freedom Scientific or anyone else who develops a screen
reader, but those guys and gals work their tails off. I think we should be
glad for what we have while striving to acquire even more. I'm sure this
thread will get quite a bit longer from here and I eagerly look forward to
 the ride.

Hello Jim,
Sorry for being so borring, but I have done that several times and the
plug-in isn't on the Goldwave list of plug-ins. I know the procedure because
I have already imported several Sound forge plug-ins in Goldwave, but this
time no luck. Maybe I should change something in the text of Activate
(WinNT).batt file in order to get the plugin on the list.
Thanks very much.

Hi Marijan:

With GoldWave opened:
1. Press Alt-O for the options menu.
2. press g to bring up the plug-ins menu.
3. Choose DirectX from that menu.
4. From the list of DirectX plug-ins registered on your system, arrow down
to FreeVerbX and it will probably say not checked.
5. Press the spacebar and it should say checked.
6. Tab to OK. GoldWave jabbers for a while and then press enter on OK
again. The plug-in is now recognized by GoldWave.
7. With a file loaded: press Alt-C to enter the Effects menu option.
8. Cursor down to the Plug-ins sub-menu.
9. Choose the DirectX sub-menu.
10. Choose the FreeVerbX plug-in.
11. Perform your magic with the plug-in.

Cheers.

Hello Larry:

To begin with, when you unzip the file, you must decide where you want to
place the files. Let me suggest:
 c:\program files\FreeVerb

Then, you must find and open that directory, and run the appropriate batch
file that corresponds to your operating system. That will register the
plug-in with Windows. Until this is accomplished, GoldWave cannot use the
 plug-in.

Please refer to my earlier post concerning the setup for GoldWave.

 Cheers.

Hi Marijan.

If you are using XP, you should be using the XP batch file. There is a
batch file for W9x, WXP, and WNT. Running the un-modified NT batch file in
XP won't work.

If you don't have an XP batch file, you have the wrong version of the zipped
file.

If you go to:
ftp.compuconference.com/FreeVerb_DirectX.zip
you will download the latest version of the file.

As an alternative, you can edit the NT batch file by changing the WinNT
directory to Windows.

Cheers.

Jim! From the Save As dialogue choose MP3 as the file type and click
the button labeled Custom. Now be sure the combo box labeled Template
is on Default Template. Now tab over to the combo box labeled Bit Rates
and you should be able to go up to 320 KBPS.

If you use Nero, you can download the RM/RA plug-in from
http://neroplugins.cd-rw.org/.
. Nero Burning ROM version 5.5.9.0 or higher is required for all plug-in.
. For Nero version 5, unzip the plug-in DLL into
...\Ahead\Shared\AudioPlugins directory.
. For Nero version 6, unzip the plug-in DLL into \Program Files\Common
Files\Ahead\AudioPlugins directory.
. The first two letters of the plug-in DLL name must be nx in lower case,
otherwise it won't be recognized by Nero Burning ROM.
You can then be able to insert RM tracks to your audio cd compilation.

Re: Okay, I give up! How do I get started with Goldwave

2005-01-09 Thread Marijan Janev
Hi Kathy,
Here some basic Goldwave shortcuts:
ctrl+F9 = record
ctrl+F8 = stop recording
F4 = play
F5 = rewind
F6 = fast forwar
F7 = pause
F8 = stop
[ = start selection
] = end selection
shift+E = opens a dialog box where you can change the start and end of
selection
ctrl+T = trim the unselected parts
ctrl+s = save

So, as you can see, [ and ] work in Goldwave as well. In the beginning I
also had a problem to understand the concept of selection and moving through
the file in Goldwave because I firstly learned using Sound forge like you.
But you need only practise.
Good luck!
Sincerely,
Marijan

Hi, Gang! Well, I took some of yous guys's advice and downloaded the
Goldwave shareware to make its acquaintance. Short of going over this
manual about a hundred times, can somebody direct me as to how to navigate
around and edit a file? I know how to record something but don't know how
to stop the recording, and I don't know how to work with the file once I
have it. With Soundforge and Studio recorder, I can start playing a file,
stop and start it, select stuff using braces or the shift arrow keys, but
that doesn't seem to work in Goldwave!

The manual seems to have some very nice tutorials but I can't seem to find
the very most basic information a totally blind person can use. Any help
would be greatly appreciated, or if there are some blind-friendly links,
manuals, etc., that would be great, too. I'm just totally bumfuzzled!

Hi Anders,
If you buy Sound forge and its noise reduction plug-in you don't need to buy
Goldwave at all. SF has all you need and much much more. I think that our

But of course, goldwave also wil satisfy your need but its noise reduction
is not so good.
The choice is only yours.

ordered the previous version of Soundforge. I get those beeps when I try

 plug-in. I didn't think I'd have to do that, but I guess I do, since I
got a new computer, and had to reinstall the Soundforge program. I hope
this helps. Maybe some others could be of more help.

Because your Sound forge directX plug-ins are not registered or you are
using SF demo. After registering it you can use them normally and the
irritating beeps will disappear.
Good luck!

Burning oversized CDs

We may sometimes find CDs (audio or data CDs) that are longer than the
normal 74 minutes ones. It can be then very frustrating not to be able to
make any back-up copies of such CDs as the normal 74 minutes CD-Rs
(640-680MB) don't provide enough place to burn the whole data.
But there are basically 2 solutions to this problem :

1. the first one deals with CD-Rs that have a writing-capacity of 80 minutes
2. the second one concerns CD-Recorders that allow to burn more data on CDs
than other CD-Recorders would allow it.

But a couple of problems can appear while burning oversized CDs. There are
actually 3 kinds of possible problems :
the first and most annoying problem is to find out some reading-errors at
the end of the CD, and especially in the sectors located out of the normal
burning capacity. Thus, in Audio CDs, these errors would be revealed as
kinds of noises, scratches or silences at the end of the CD. With Data CDs,
some data may simply not be readable.
the second problem is that we may get SCSI/Atapi error-messages and then the
CD-Recorder will stop the burn process. These error-messages are
Write-emergency or
Track following error. However, in spite of these errors, burnt CDs are
still more or less readable till the end of the CD. Moreover, it is
important to underline that such errors depend a lot on the quality, the
brand of the CD-Rs as well as on the type of CD-Recorder. There is
unfortunately no possibility to determine automatically the exact
oversize-capacity of a CD.

3. the third problem is that oversize-burning might in very few cases damage
the CD-Recorder.

When you are a Nero user and absolutely want to burn oversized CDs, please
check first if your CD-Recorder allows such a burning-session. For most of
the CD-Recorders, such an option is possible only in Disc At once mode.

If you have one of these CD-Recorders that supports oversize CD recording,
you can then open the expert features in the Nero settings (File -
Preferences). In the expert features property sheet, you will be then
able to activate the oversize-burning option. In the same window, you have
the possibility to enter the maximal oversize capacity of your CD-R.

When the data you want to burn is bigger than the normal capacity of CD-R
but smaller than the maximal oversize capacity entered, and when you have
activated the oversize burning option, Nero will then ask you if you really
want to try the oversize burning process. If you answer yes, Nero will
continue the burn process. If not, the burn process will be cancelled.

As already said, there is no possibility to determine automatically the
maximum oversize capacity of your CD-R. It means that you must first test
where is the border of your CD-R, this depending on the brand of the CD.
Usually, 74 minutes CDs allow an oversize burning of 76 Minutes without any
big problems. We can also find 74 minutes CDs that offer oversize burning
capacity of 79,30 minutes ! Nero 4.0 also allows oversize burning of 80
minutes CD-Rs (up to 82 minutes).

We would recommend you first to try the simulation or the burning with 76
minutes. If, at the end of the burn process or the simulation, there is an
error message, then try to set up again the maximal oversize burning
capacity or try with another brand of CD-Rs. On the contrary, if you don't
get any error message, it means that this border is still higher.

Important Note: according to the specifications of the manufacturers,
oversize burning may, in theory, destroy the CD-Recorder. But in practice,
it happens very rarely. Anyway, we can't give any guaranty concerning the
reading quality of such burnt CD's. That is why we can only warn you: you
can try oversize burning but at your own risk !

You can repeatedly add tracks to a compilation that you're building by
following steps 7 to 11 in the notes I've pasted below.

Using Nero to burn a compilation from tracks stored on your hard drive

1. Start Nero from the desktop or programs menu.
2. Select CD from the choice of medium that can be written to by Nero. Tab
to Next and press enter.
3. Select compile a new CD from the radio buttons. Tab to Next and press
enter.
4. Now choose the format of the CD you would like to burn. Select Audio
from the radio buttons if you want a CD that will play in standard CD
players or select Data if you want a CD that will be used to contain MP3
tracks that will only be played in an MP3 player. Tab to Next and press
enter.
5. Press enter on the Finish button and the compilation window will be in
focus.
6. Use the keystroke windows + E to start Windows Explorer.
7. Locate the tracks you wish to add to your compilation by browsing the
folders on your hard drive where they reside.
8. For selected tracks, use the keystroke control + C to copy them to the
clipboard.
9. Press alt + tab to bring the Nero compilation window back into focus.
10. Use the keystroke control + V to paste the tracks into the compilation.
11. Repeat steps 7 through 10 until you have added all of the tracks you
want to include in your compilation.
12. You may now want to reorder the tracks in your compilation. To do this,
use the keystroke control + X to cut the track to the keyboard then use the
up and down arrow keys to locate the track that you wish to immediately
follow the track you've just cut to the clipboard. Use the keystroke
control + V to paste the track into the compilation and it will then appear
at this point. NOTE: this reordering is only possible if you have chose
audio format and not possible for data format.
13. When you are ready to burn your compilation, close all running
applications so that Nero is not competing for your computer's resources.
14. To burn the compilation, press alt + F to open the file menu and then
press W to open the Burn dialogue.
15. Tab to the Burn button and press enter.

my MP3 compilations in Nero. I got my first ten tracks copied from the
harddrive. When I go back to Nero, I need to know how to add more tracks.
I have nearly 150 track that I ripped to the harddrive. Now I need to put
all those on an MP3 CD. I hope somebody can help.

Re: Noise Reduction Sound Forge Dilemma; Solution Needed

2004-06-02 Thread Marijan Janev
Graham,
In the SF6, after selecting the noise you wont to apply on the whole sound
file, press alt+d, up arrow once, right arrow and from the directX plug-ins
list choose noise reduction. Then choose preset you think is the best and
press alt+s. Another dialog pop-ups where you can specify the time interval
of your file on which you wish to apply the noise reduction. When you have
done it, tab to ok and press enter. Now you are again in noise reduction
dialog box and can hear how the file sounds.
I suppose the same is in the SF7.
Good luck!
Sincerely,
Marijan

Subject: Noise Reduction Sound Forge Dilemma; Solution Needed

When using Noise Reduction with Sound Forge 7, I want to take a noise print
from the middle of the file and then apply it to the whole file. I can't
seem to get the technique of doing it. Sometime ago, I read of a way to
select the whole file from within the Noise Reduction preset, but I can't
find the spot to click. Can anyone help?
