Juice podcast reciever.

2006-05-07 Thread Nektarios Mallas
Hello list. Ok, before I post here, I always try to read the manual or
at least try to find the answer on my own. Now however, I don't seem to
be able to get it.
I am new in podcasting, I downloaded the juice application, installed it
ok, read most of the user guide and I subscribed to blindcooltech.
The program checked the feed and supposidely downloaded the last episod.
The mp3 came corrupted, and besides I wish to download the last 30 or
more episods. How do I do that? I am confused.
Any help is very much appreciated.
Nektarios.

Hi,

I don't know why the download was corrupted but while in the program
do an ault-v to get to the view menu.
Then tab to downloads and down arrow to BCT. At that point tab again
and arrow to episodes and check the ones you want to download.

Hope this helps.

2006-05-04 Thread Nektarios Mallas
Thanks a lot.
I own the iriver h140 and I use it with rockbox. I only use the normal
firmware to record directly to mp3 because recording in wav eats the
battery fast.
I whish rockbobx could record in mp3 too. Can't they record in vorbas
since it is a free format?
Any way, I am thinking of ptr2 myself.

I own the PTR2. I've recorded with the 140, but I've not used Rockbox
for that. I believe, that one can control the record level with Rockbox
while recording? This isn't possible with the normal firmware.

I think that the recording quality of the two is quite similar. Both
machines can record in uncompressed Wave and MP3. As much as I know, one
cannot use MP3 on the iRiver when Rockbox is used, because MP3 requires
a license, and this license costs money.

The main difference in my opinion is accessibility. With the PTR2, I can
ask the recorder to tell me, how much time's left on the card or CD. The
machine tells me, when the battery is flat. I have a talking level
control. I can easily distinguish between record and record pause mode
and so on.

Like the iRiver the Plextalk has a stereo Plug-in power capable
microphone input and a line-in. However it doesn'T have optical in and
out like the iRiver. The built-in mic of the Plextalk is mainly for note
taking, I'd not use it to record music. But I wouldn't use the built-in
mic of the iRiver for that either, because of the hard disk noise.

Yes of course. Iriver can play mp3 and some other formats using rockbox.
It has spoken menus, spelled out file names and folders, recording
facilities, fm radio and other great features.

The iaudio x5 with rockbox is under development at this point. There is
much useful information at www.rockbox.org which you should read before
deciding. Also, you need to read the rockbox manual instead your
player's staff because things are different.

RE: question on MP3 player

2006-04-27 Thread Nektarios Mallas
Hello. I was also researching the topic of mp3 players myself. I have
used a creative jukebox in the past but I don't like it at all. The
player itself is ok but I hate using horible inaccessible creative
software to transfer files and do other things.
I ended up buying an iriver h140 and all I have to say is that it is
great! I installed the rockbox firmware and I have talking menus, file
names etc. It is the best experience I had in my life since I discovered
a screen reader exists for my computer years ago.
I will never buy a creative or an ipod again. Well, I shouldn't say
that. I may investigate buying an ipod in the future when rockbox is
working satisfactorily with it.

hi all,
just a comment here.
I've used the creative zen. The touchpad is actually quite accessible,
and
so is the software or at least the version i had. my model, the zen
micro 5
gb, would allow you to customize the menus, so provided you have a soft
touch, you can mess with the radio and the voice recorder, or you can
buy
the remote which switches from player to radio with one button. the
software
is easy, there is actually a place, provided you have windows media 10,
in
my computer that you can simply paste your mp3/wma files, i'm not sure
about
plays for sure, and it will send them. even if you don't use the menus,
the
zen is accessible because a click device similar to the ipod can be
enabled
with sighted help, so you can hear when you tap any area of the touchpad
in
any menu. however, i had 3 units and they all had hard drive errors, my
friend sent one in and got the other one stolen and another blind friend
has
hers working for over a year, so i don't know about the quality of the
thing
itself.
hope this helps

Try to get one of these iriver players. The h140 that I use, is rockbox

hi all,
here is what i'm looking for.
first and most important, it has to be rockbox accessible. i'm tired of
getting my parents to mess around with the menus with me. so i need
rockbox compatibility. second, i'd really like to have line in
capability, or at least externam mic, or something, so my guitar teacher
can record things for me and i can practice with headphones and not have
to wait around for him to burn a cd or record a tape. third, i'd like
battery life over 12 hours, or if this is out there an mp3 that runs on
regular double or tripple A batteries.

if anyone can suggest anything that meets these that is decently priced,
please drop me a line.

Mp3 player purchase.

2006-04-13 Thread Nektarios Mallas
Hello list.
I know that this subject is on and off from this list for some time now.
I am on the market for a hard disk based player myself and I have some
questions.
Iriver has discontinued the h340 and is now very hard to find. Since
rockbox only works for out of date players at this point, I will buy
something that is more current and I will have to put up with the
difficulties we all have when accessing something with out speech,
remembering menus, count key strokes etc. Is the iriver h10 20 gb
version reasonably usable? There is a touchpad as I understand from the
description. Can we use that thing? Can we go up and down the menus or
file folders accurately?
Do we need special software to transfer files or it is as with the h340
accessible with windows explorer?
I am also thinking about ipod 60 gb version. I think however that this
unit does not have any line in or fm tuner. Is the ipod accessible as
above? It appears that it has a click weel. Can you locate files if you
know where they are? Can you transfer files back and forth easily?
Do you have to edit mp3 tags for all this to make sence?
Any help is very much appreciated.

 Hi:

It seems that Rockbox will support the Iriver H10 series when they get

aroung to it. If I were you though, I would make an extra effort to
acquire an Iriver H300 series unit. The newer units are more focused
on their ability to display video now. You should be able to pick up
an Iriver H320 or an H340 on Ebay from a reputable Ebay store. I was
even able to find an Iriver h120 that way.

 Hope this helps.

Hi:

It seems that Rockbox will support the Iriver H10 series when they get
aroung to it. If I were you though, I would make an extra effort to
acquire
an Iriver H300 series unit. The newer units are more focused on their
ability to display video now. You should be able to pick up an Iriver
H320
or an H340 on Ebay from a reputable Ebay store. I was even able to find
an
Iriver h120 that way.

Hope this helps.

 Hello list.
I know that this subject is on and off from this list for some time
now. I am on the market for a hard disk based player myself and I have

some questions. Iriver has discontinued the h340 and is now very hard
to find. Since rockbox only works for out of date players at this
point, I will buy something that is more current and I will have to
put up with the difficulties we all have when accessing something with

out speech, remembering menus, count key strokes etc. Is the iriver
h10 20 gb version reasonably usable? There is a touchpad as I
understand from the description. Can we use that thing? Can we go up
and down the menus or file folders accurately?
Do we need special software to transfer files or it is as with the
h340
 accessible with windows explorer?
I am also thinking about ipod 60 gb version. I think however that this
unit does not have any line in or fm tuner. Is the ipod accessible as
above? It appears that it has a click weel. Can you locate files if
you
know where they are? Can you transfer files back and forth easily?
Do you have to edit mp3 tags for all this to make sence?
Any help is very much appreciated.

 Nektarios.

Visit www.cowonamerica.com for mp3 players that are simply...there isn't

Iaudio X5

Michael, I just came home with my new iriver h140.
I finally decided to go with this player after much thought and

Do you have any tips on how to use this player to share? I am reading

Yes, it is an older modell, but an even better one in my oopinion. It
has optical in and out, which the 300s don't have. However, it can't
play video files, this is only possible with the 300s. Also, the 300s
have a display which is turned off after one hasn't pressed a key on the
300 for some time. The next key press doesn't do anything except
reactivating the display. At least it works like this with the original
iRiver firmware. Rockbox supports the 140 very well. Jonathan Mosen did
a review of the 140 with Rockbox.

By the way, Rockbox now also works on the iAudio X5, which another
member of this list recommended. IAudio players are available here in
Europe too. But my favorite is the iRiver 140. With the X5, one has to
use a docking station for a couple of things. For instance I believe,
that the USB port of the machine is on the docking station. Also the
iRiver has a built-in mic preamp, so that one can use normal stereo mics
with it. However, I do not know whether Rockbox supports this feature.

I have found the Creative Zen Nano 1 GB flash memmory to be fairly
accessible. Other than for getting into the menu for other options if
you only want to play MP3, Audible books, WMA and WMA/DRM (digital
rights
management) this unit hold a place marker in the file you are listening
too.

This unit has an FM radio and you have to get into the menu to get to
the radio--and I haven't found an easy way to do that.

Sound quality is great!

Found mine at Walmart.

Paid $149.95.

Are there any high quality belt worn MP3 players out that actually have
buttons for each function. Can they leave marks in a file so that one
can return to the place where one left off? To a certain extent, the
IRiver can do that; however, when one plays another file, the previous

Thanks all over the place gang.

Hi Nektarios, it's been a while since I checked out Live365 but I guess
the first question is, do you want a service that allows you to upload
content for streaming, or are you happy to stream your own content all
the time using Winamp and a streaming plug-in. If the latter, there are
much better options.

The count down is on to a new era in Internet broadcasting.

promissing from a demonstration that I heard recently.

Does anyone know if any progress has been made to make Palms talk? I
just saw an audio player that does just about everything--no playlists
required, has gapless and crosssfading capabilities, two different kinds
of bookmarks (user-definable and auto-restart), ... just about all the
really good features. But it runs on a Palm!

There are two reviews of Mobile Speak Pocket here:

Hi there!
I don't know about the palm OS, but the pocket pc which is the
equivalent of Microsoft and there is great audio software for that is
accessible. There are two screen readers for that, pocket hal from
Dolphin systems, and mobile speak pocket from Code factory. I haven't
tested any of them myself, but pocket hal looks very promissing from a
demonstration that I heard recently.

RE: Hard Disk-based MP3 Player

2005-12-08 Thread Nektarios Mallas
Hello there.
I own and use a creative jukebox the original player. I am able to use
most functions of the player but the software that comes with it is
horible. I am an experienced jaws user and I don't mind fedling around
with inaccessible staff but this was a lot more problematic.
I think the same happens with the zen line of units. You can't see them
as another drive in windows explorer so that you can copy folders to it.

I would have bought a zen instantly if it wasn't for the software
interface. Now I will get the iriver h340 instead.

does about the same. If one found a good ripper, could play files in

RE: DVD Questions

2005-09-10 Thread Nektarios Mallas
Hello there!
The bin file there is the image of the dvd disk. If the file is about
4.5 gb then you can burn it directly to a blank dvd. There are many ways
to do this.
You can use d-tools which is a little program that adds a virtual drive
on your computer. You can mount the bin image file and then use nero
with regular dvd copy procedures to copy directly to the blank disk. You
can also use dvd decryptor if you want to rip the virtual dvd on a
folder on your hard drive. This is useful especially if the file is more
than 5 gb, in which case you need dvd shrink to compress it to fit on a
disk.
If you need more information and useful software, go to:
http://www.doom9.org
Dvd shrink is quite accessible if you know your screen reader well,
which I know you do! D-tools is accessible also as is dvd decryptor.
If you need more assistance let me know.

Regards.
Nektarios.

Hi, Kris.
Have a look at the Bookport
http://sun1.aph.org/tech/bp_info.htm
It will record audio, though with a low quality microphone, and
play books from Audible, BookShare and NLS; It'll also play mp3, though
the only other type of music files it plays are WAV. It will not play
OGG or WMA. It comes with 64 MB of memory, but cards of up to 2
gigabytes are available for anything from $10 to $160 or so. I've seen 2
GB cards for around $140, but this has been on special. It uses compact
flash memory. I think that answers all your question. I wouldn't use the
recording features of the machine, BTW, for anything more than notes or
short memos that don't have to be of high quality. If you want a good
recorder, you should probably get the Archos or Iriver mainstream MP3
players, but these won't play books from Bookshare, Audible, or NLS.

Hi All,

I know I want the moon and stars, but I'm looking to purchase a portable

audio player that will do the following:

record and play books from Audible, BookShare and NLS;
play mp3 and other types of music files.

I'd like at least a gig of memory, if it has permanent storage. However,
in

many ways those that use memory cards are better because you are not
limited

and you can put different types of material on different cards even
using a
card for self-help type books and a different card for recreational
reading
and still other cards for jazz, classical and so forth.

I know I won't find the perfect player out there, but I'd like to get
the
most features for my money.

I have even considered the PlexTalk, but although that gives me some
additional capabilities, it's awfully pricey.

Any recommendations???

 Right!

Well the easiest way to use the Noise Reduction plug-in to remove
tape hiss is to use the auto -capture feature, this feature captures
a print of the noise to be removed. Once you've captured a print of
the noise to be removed you can tweek the settings a little such as
the DB you want removed, the mode of noise reduction etc.

The Noise reduction manual is very comprehensive so have a good read
of it as it gives you a very good understanding of the plug-in and
 its many functions.

RE: editing and converting midi files

2004-05-07 Thread Nektarios Mallas
Any regular sequencer program will change the tempo of the song.
As for mp3, that depends on your midi setup. If you are using any external
synth or module, you need to play back the song and record it ither to the
computer or other external device.
If you are only playing the midi file through your sound card, use total
recorder or recall pro to record the file.
