Hi Ken--open Real Player, and the Music Store is listed under the view
menu. You can Alt V to get to the view menu, and when you have that
opened, arrow up 9 times (or down arrow 10 times) and you should find
it. Make sure your version of Real Player is at least version 10, I don't
think this feature was in earlier releases.

fwd: Audible.com article from USA Today

2004-06-06 Thread Norma A. Boge
Its books are never out of stock
By Jefferson Graham, USA TODAY
LOS ANGELES - Audible.com has some of the most loyal fans on the Internet.
There just haven't been enough of them for the provider of audio book
downloads
to turn a profit.
Don Katz, CEO of Audible Inc., in the company's Wayne, N.J., headquarters.
By Jeff Zelevansky, AP
But Audible, founded in 1997, is poised to make money this year because of
the increased penetration of MP3 players such as the Apple iPod and a recent
Audible deal to sell book downloads at Apple's iTunes Music Store. Audible
also is close to proving that digital media can be more than just stealing
music,
movie and TV files in dorm rooms and dens.
Audible will sell what's expected to be the year's literary equivalent of a
blockbuster movie - Bill Clinton's My Life. The company will make it
available
on June 22 at 3:01 a.m. ET.
Unlike a conventional bookstore, where as many as 10,000 buyers might show
up for a best seller, Audible CEO Donald Katz says, "We will never be out of
stock."
That's because Audible needs only one copy of a book on hand - a digital
file that is copied by customers to PCs and moved to MP3 players or CDs.
Clinton, in his first public appearance for the book, will deliver a keynote
address tonight in Chicago at BookExpo America, a gathering of 25,000 book
sellers. Audible will offer the speech free as a download by midnight ET.
This follows another recent freebie: former counter-terrorism official
Richard
Clarke's testimony to the Sept. 11 commission. That produced 100,000
downloads and many new customers, Katz says.
The $800 million audiobook market has been growing steadily. Revenue is up
15% this year from 2003, says the Audio Publishers Association. But the idea
of downloading a book "was ahead of its time" when Audible struggled through
its early years, says Mark Argento, an analyst with securities firm
Think-Equity
Partners.
There were too few MP3 player owners, he says. "The turnaround came last
year, with the smash success of the iPod. Now, the story starts to get
really interesting."
Audible's annual revenue has grown to $19.3 million last year from $9.1
million in 2001. Argento projects 2004 revenue will grow to $30.6 million.
The company
has 115,000 subscribers. Argento sees the number growing to 500,000 by 2006.
Katz is a former journalist (Esquire and Rolling Stone) and non-fiction
author (The Big Store: Inside the Crisis and Revolution at Sears). He says
Audible's
short life has been anything but a cakewalk. It went dark for three days
after the Sept. 11 attacks because its servers were stored near the World
Trade
Center. They had to be reclaimed and moved.
ALL ABOUT AUDIBLE
 Founded: 1997
 Based: Wayne, N.J.
Sells: Spoken-word digital downloads. Offers more than 6,000 books, 22,000
radio programs and audio editions of newspapers and magazines. Best sellers
include The Da Vinci Code and Plan of Attack.
Prices: $14.95 for one book a month; $19.95 for two books. Buyers also can
shop a la carte: The Narrows by Michael Connelly is $24.95 at Audible for
the
unabridged version, vs. $25.15 for audiotapes at Amazon.com.
Discounts: Audible takes $100 off the price of an Apple iPod or offers a
free Creative Nomad MuVo MP3 player with a 12-month subscription.
Capacity: Digital audio can fit an average of 315 books on a 15-gigabyte
$299 iPod portable or 51/2 books on the 128-megabyte MuVo.
"I was worried we'd decimate our goodwill with customers and that they'd
never return," Katz says. "But the business eventually bounced back."
The same goes for Audible's stock. It once sold for as much as $15.50, but
had to leave the Nasdaq exchange when shares fell to a low of 30 cents.
Shares now sell for more than $4 and will be moving back to Nasdaq later
this month. They closed Wednesday at $4.03.
Microsoft and Amazon were early investors, though Microsoft later bailed
out. But new money came from Germany's Bertelsmann - which owns publishing
company
Random House and BMG Music - and from equity fund Apex Venture Partners.
Fans never stopped believing. With Audible, "I feel like the world has been
opened up to me, as it never has been before, and I am reveling in it,"
Sherry
Gomes says.
Gomes, blind since age 5, had to bring sighted friends to bookstores to read
the back of audio book covers.
"With Audible, I can browse," says Gomes, 47, who lives near Denver. She
uses software on her PC that reads aloud text from Web sites and e-mails. "I
can
look at the catalog, read the plot summaries - even listen to a sample of
the book if I like. I have access to books I never knew or dreamed could be
available."
Audible has many titles sold by competitors. But there are some holes in its
catalog. For every best seller such as Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code and Bob
Woodward's Plan of Attack, there are missing best sellers from publishers
who haven't opened to digital distribution. They include the Harry Potter
series
and Mitch Albom's The Five People You Meet in Heaven.

ACB Radio convention stream info

2004-07-08 Thread Norma A. Boge
FYI for those who might have been wondering what happened with the stream
and archives of the ACB convention.

From: Geoff Shang <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
We apologise for not being able to bring you Thursday's sessions on demand
or as replays. Due to having internet problems, our log is in pieces with
bits missing. Dave has, or will have, obtained the missing pieces from the
people who record it for the ACB, but he will need to edit it all together
before it can be made available. Due to the need to set up for this
evening plus other official commitments which he was unable to get out of,
this has not yet been completed. Tomorrow is a very big day with general
sessions in the morning as well as the afternoon, and the banquet in the
evening, so we may not have the Thursday material for you until at least
Saturday - it's all a matter of being able to find the time to patch it all
together. We appreciate your patience in this, and assure you that the
archives will be made available as soon as possible.
ACB Radio Mainstream will repeat the candidates forum until the
commencement of Friday's sessions, which as usual starts our coverage at
8Am Central, that's 13 hours GMT.

Short Consumer Reports article on Satellite Radio

2004-07-20 Thread Norma A. Boge
FYI-from the July 2004 issue of Consumer Reports
XM and Sirius Satellite radio: A down-to-earth guide
The SkyFi Receiver for XM.
HOOKUPS The SkyFi Receiver for XM (above) and the Audiovox SIR-PNP1 for
Sirius (below), shown with car kits, also connect to home sound systems or home
boom boxes.

the Audiovox SIR-PNP1 for Sirius.
Satellite radio is attracting lots of listeners who want a break from the
homogenized playlists and endless ads on local FM and AM stations--and they
don’t
mind paying at least $10 a month for it.

We first listened to satellite radio two years ago, when it was mainly for
cars. Sirius and XM, the two satellite-radio services, have since added
programming
and expanded at-home listening options. It was time to listen again.

SATELLITE OR NOT?
Satellite radio is for you if:
• Your taste goes far beyond Top 40--to big-band standards, world music,
Broadway show tunes, garage-band rock, and more. Satellite delivers what
landlocked
radio doesn’t.

• You do plenty of highway driving and want the same channel coast-to-coast.
• You don’t like ads. The music channels on Sirius and XM are
commercial-free, but some other channels run ads.

Sirius and XM are closely matched in monthly cost, programming, and
receivers. Sirius costs more per month ($12.95 vs. $9.99 for XM), but has a
slight edge
in the cost of some hardware. Both have discounts for annual plans. Once
you’ve settled on a service, you’re committed. To switch, you have to buy new
hardware.

It’s easier to get satellite-radio reception in cars than in homes, we’ve
found. During long drives, we could nearly always count on strong reception
from
both services, though overpasses and tunnels interfered. Getting good
reception at home depends on positioning the radio’s antenna to pick up a
strong
signal from the satellites. The best reception wasn’t always in the room
where we wanted the radio. Both services let you preview reception at home
before
you activate an account.

HOW TO CHOOSE
Pick programming. Sirius and XM don’t have identical channel lists.
National Public Radio is only on Sirius, for example, and XM alone has
Nascar sports/talk.
Sirius has a channel devoted to gay and lesbian issues, as well as
play-by-play for the National Football League and National Hockey League.

Both services offer at least 20 rock and pop channels, covering a range of
music types. Both have three channels for classical music and three for
Christian
programming. Both also have continuous traffic and weather information for
some 20 metropolitan areas.

Before you sign up, sample programs at
www.sirius.com
and
www.xmradio.com.
Pick hardware. Satellite radio is often an option in new cars. The most
economical way to add it to an older car is with a receiver that connects
to the
car radio through the tape-cassette slot. No tape deck? You’ll have to use
an FM modulator. Sirius has docking kits for the car with built-in wireless
FM modulators.

Good choices in hardware:
XM. The Delphi XM SkyFi Receiver SA 1. It costs $130 and can be used
with a car kit or home kit (each $69). It can also work with at-home boom boxes
that cost $100 or $200 (the more expensive boom box includes AM, FM, and a
CD/MP3 player).

For a complete package, try the Delphi XM Roady SA 10035, $125.
Sirius. The Audiovox SIR-PNP1, $90, or PNP2, $100. Kits for car or home use
cost $30 to $50. The receivers work with a Sirius SIR-BB1 Boom Box, $100.

change all directories in such lines to whatever you wish and save a backup

Hi Kevin, thanks for this information. I think I'll try this route, rather
than messing with the ini file, as that is a little bit out of my
expertise. I know I wasn't hitting enter to open the dialogue so no wonder
I was stumped. Thanks again, Norma

Hi Norma.
When in CDEX, press function key F4 to open the settings dialogue.
Press shift tab and then use your left arrow key to locate the file names
tab.
Press tab until you hear the output directory for WAV/MP3.
Now press enter.
You will be in a dialogue that will allow you to browse your hard drive
(whoops sorry Jeff mentioned that word again!) to locate your folder of
choice. When selected tab to ok and press enter. Tab once again to the
recorded tracks control and press enter. Again you will have opened up the
browse dialogue. Select the same folder as for WAV/MP3. This may seem a
bit of a waste of time but I have a vague recollection that you need to
change both. You can now tab to the ok button and press enter. Job done.

Hi listers,

which to retrieve some Nero plug-ins, but I am not sure what I need to do
after I have downloaded what I believe are the plug-ins for burning WMA and
Real Media files. For example, I downloaded nxmyasf.zip, which I think is
the WMA plug-in, and nxmyreal.zip, which is the Real plug-in. . If this
is correct, where exactly do I unzip these files to?Are there any other
steps to installing these plug-ins? BTW, the site I downloaded the zip
files from is http://neroplugins.cd-rw.org/

Thanks, any assistance would be most appreciated!

RE: Daisy Player

2016-09-12 Thread Norma A. Boge
Andrea,

Not sure if anyone has yet mentioned the Book Port Plus from American Printing
House for the Blind. I just ordered my second unit as the headphone jack went
out on my first unit after 6 years of very heavy use including any number of
drops onto different surfaces, including concrete. Yes, I'm getting a case this
time from Executive products. Anyway, at $340 I am impressed with the Book Port
Plus functionality not to mention excellent recording capability. If you have
more questions, you may contact me off list at nab...@mchsi.com

Hi,

I am only familiar with the Book Port Plus, but if you have access to the user
manual it should tell you if certain type cards are to be used with the player.
A Google search should get you to the user manual if you don't have one.
Sometimes it is included with firmware.

Cause I found a 5 pack of 8 GB SD cards on Amazon but it had all that stuff to

Hello list: Certainly someone can help me with this problem; I posted it
last night and got no replies! I am really wanting to play this DVD set I
got as it is the band I work in when we worked a show back in November! My
portable DVD player would play it, but am having problems with that machine
(not because of the DVD in question) but for some rreason I cannot charge
the battery! Back to my original problem: I have these DVDs that were made
of a show I and the band were involved in; when I put the DVD into the disk
drive, VLC comes up.but that's about as far as it will go! So I then tried
physically going to my D drive and pressed "enter, where I was promptly told
that Windows could not access the specified device, path or file; it goes on
to say that I may not have the permissions to access this device, which is
bullsh** (I paid for these DVDs and I want to see them! I've managed to
watch some of it with Windows Media Player. However it tells me something
about "transisioning so much percent (don't understand that either) then
after a few minutes, the video stops playing! Am running Windows 7 (home
edition) if this helps any! Surely there is someone on this fine list that
can tell me what it is I need to do to make these DVDs play! I know there
are some on here that swear by VLC (they say that VLC will play anything;
well ya can't prove it by me! So I await your response and will post any
updates that I can share!

Hi all.

I use Tap-in Radio to listen, for example, to a BBC 6 Music show, and total
recorder professional to record the show.

BBC 6 music is broadcast at a very high bit rate and I was wondering if
perhaps I'm capturing it at it's best.

I have had a look within Total Recorder settings to see if perchance there
was a box for adjusting the quality or bit rate of recording, but I cannot
find it.

Anyone know how I can ensure that I'm recording at the very best posible
quality available to me.

Thanks in advance.

Very best wishes.

just to let any Audacity users on this list, that version 2.1.3 has just been
released. For the new features in this release, see this page of the
manual:
http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/new_features_in_this_release.html

Included in these new features is that labels are now easier to use for users
of screen readers. Please note that the default shortcut for "play/stop and set
cursor" has been changed to the letter X - it was shift
+ a in previous versions of Audacity.

There is a guide to Audacity 2.1.3 which is written for Jaws users, and nearly
all of it is also applicable to users of NVDA and Window-Eyes:
http://vip.chowo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/jaws/Audacity-2.1.3-Guide.html

For Windows users, a direct link to the new version is:

Unfortunately for Mac users, the screen reader version of Audacity 2.1.1
remains the recommended version:

I could take the list to Google Groups or some other commercial e-mailing

OK folks, I got the message. The pc audio list will continue, probably on
groups.i o. Not because I'm too cheap to pay for website space, but because
DMARC and other e-mail list constraints have made lists difficult to manage.
More information to follow.

Playing podcasts on portable devices

2007-03-18 Thread Norma A. Boge-Conyers
Hi audiophiles,

I'm just getting into the wonderful world of podcasts. I am using
Accessible Podcatcher, and I am wondering if I can play these files
on a Muvo or Bookport. If so, do I just copy and paste while in
Windows Explorer? If it makes any difference, the podcasts I have so
far are from an Audible subscription.

Thanks guys,
Norma

Eliminating audio tape squeal

2007-05-26 Thread Norma A. Boge-Conyers
Hi listers,

I have an audio cassette which has developed a rather nasty squeal
during playback. Not sure if it's the tape or the machine. Anyone
have any hints on eliminating this problem?

RE: Eliminating audio tape squeal

2007-05-27 Thread Norma A. Boge-Conyers
Hi Tom,

Actually, I don't know why I didn't think of cleaning the head, etc,
my brain must be in stand-by this weekend. Would you please remind
me what is a safe solution to clean with? And the squeal does come
through the speaker and headphones. Other tapes play just fine. I
should probably state this is not a huge deal; it regards tape 1 of
an NLS audio book I got late last week so I could read it over the
long weekend. So, if my efforts don't resolve the problem, I'll just
send it back and re-order hopefully a better copy.

Thanks to all who gave me suggestions,
Norma

I really think a lot of the antenna placement depends on
location. I'm in central Iowa, and I have one antenna which sits
atop our kitchen cupboard, pointing straight up. The other is on our
deck, southwest side of the house, again pointing straight up. Each
person needs to experiment and see what is best for them. Norma

Hi audiophiles, I know that there is occasional discussion regarding
tape decks and their integration with the PC I stumbled across this
tape deck, and it struck me as different because it is like the
component dual decks we are all familiar with, but it also includes
USB connectivity. The price is $149. I've pasted a little info
below but if you want more info, surf on over to
http://www.x-tremegeek.com/templates/SearchDetail.asp?productID=15886

Convert your old cassette tapes into modern MP3 digital files with
ION Audio's USB Cassette Archiver. Not only only is the Archiver a
superior dual cassette
tape deck (it even features high-speed dubbing), it converts music
from analog tapes into digital files you can play, save and edit on
your computer. It
will integrate nicely with your home entertainment center and
connects with standard RCA jacks. Includes Audacity and EZ Tape
Converter software on CD-ROM.
Requires Microsoft Windows XP/Vista or Mac OS 9+ (Mac users will need
additional third party software for MP3 encoding).

TR 7 to be released soon/was Re: Total Recorder

From: "Jani Kinnunen" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: Total Recorder V7.0 Will Be Released Soon
Date: Fri, 2 Nov 2007 07:12:50 +0200

Hi,

I thought some people might be interested in the following pre-announcement.

Jani

Total Recorder V7.0 Will Be Released Soon!

High Criteria Inc., the world leader in computer audio recording systems,

announces the upcoming release of Total Recorder Version 7.0 and New Version

of

Video Add-on!

Total Recorder v7.0 is now becoming more powerful functionally and obtaining

more new features for users. New Total Recorder's kernel mode Driver offers

the following solutions:

list of 2 items

. Total Recorder is now fully compatible with Windows Vista (without any

limitations).

. There is no sound distortion when recording the sound from applications,

which involve the use of DirectSound (for instance, Skype 3.x).

list end

Total Recorder V7.0 Standard Edition offers a number of new features

including:

list of 3 items

. The feature of exporting/importing Total Recorder's settings and scheduled

jobs is added. It can be useful if you need to reinstall your system, move

Total Recorder from one computer to another one and for backup.

. In the new version of the program you can rename one file or a batch of

files from playlist using tag information.

. New version of Total Recorder is distinguished by higher speed and better

file compression when encoding files to FLAC format due to using the latest

version of FLAC sources.

list end

Total Recorder Professional Edition Version 7.0 includes all updates

released in the Standard Edition and has the additional changes:

list of 2 items

. Total Recorder offers the unique TimeShift feature which enables you to

exercise simultaneous listening and recording. It means that you can record

the

audio file and listen to it without waiting for the recording process to be

finished. You can also listen to the file from any position while recording

it.

. Cue-sheet files are now supported by Total Recorder. ?ue-points can be

created:

- Manually, e.g. to make a bookmark in a sound file.

- Automatically during recording session based on pause reduction, changes

of clip info in an external player, etc.

- Automatically during capturing Internet transmission when information

about a track is changed (if such information is provided by server).

A file can be splited at any time using CUE-points.

list end

We are currently working on implementing capture (rip) of

Internet-broadcasts in MP3, WMA and Ogg Vorbis formats directly without

decoding and re-encoding

(in addition to the ability of recording Internet-broadcasts of various

formats via external players). During recording you will also be able to

listen

to the steaming audio from any position of the broadcast you have already

captured.

New version of Video Add-on includes the following features:

list of 5 items

. Support of video files of the following formats is added: - Digital Video

(DV); - Windows Media Video (WMV) formats. We are currently working on

implementing

support of MPEG2 and MPEG4 formats.

. You can watch and record TV programs from TV-turner.

. Ability to record from digital DV format camera, connected to PC via

IEEE1394 interface.

. Built-in feature of turning off Video Acceleration for screen recording (a

separate utility was intended for this purpose previously).

. Performance characteristics are enhanced, so playback is improved and

saving of video files becomes faster.

list end

Our developers now are working on support simultaneous watching and

recording of Internet WMV streams.

Re: N-Track accessibility with JFW.

2005-01-03 Thread Norma A. Boge-Conyers
Hi jim,
I am using n Track a little and I would say it rates a B grade in terms of
accessibility. things are pretty straightforward, but the one problem I
have is that I am unable to arrow up or down from the menu bar. Like if I
hit Alt F for file, when I try to arrow up or down all Jaws says is
Menu. However, these items can be activated by using the Jaws cursor, and
there are some shortcut keystrokes given when reviewing with the Jaws
cursor. I spoke with a FS tech and he really couldn't help me, so I guess
I am going to have to learn a little scripting to get Jaws and N Track to
work better together. it seems like it would be a simple thing to script,
I just haven't had the time lately to tackle it. If you know anything
about scripting, perhaps we could work together to develop some
scripts. This is a great program, well worth the money, IMHO. BTW, I have
the current versions of both Jaws and N Track.

Hi listers,
I am unable to get my Windows XP SP2 machine to recognize my Muvo player as
a drive. I did not have this problem when I first got the player a few
weeks ago, and I don't think I've changed anything. does anyone have any
suggestions, or should I just re-install the driver?

Windows Media Center and Jaws

2005-02-14 Thread Norma A. Boge-Conyers
Angel, if it makes you feel any better, I have the same trouble with N
Track Studio. I am using the current version of the program along with
Jaws 6. If you use the Jaws cursor, you can read the menu items, and some
of these items have keyboard shortcuts listed. I called Freedom
Scientific, and the tech person could not help me. I bought the program
because I heard Matthew's review on ACB Radio. however, something in the
program has changed since he did his review and hence we face this
problem. If I knew how to script, I would try to write a script for
it. guess maybe I'll have to learn how to do that. until then, we have to
work with the shortcuts or the Jaws cursor to activate some items. HTH, Norma

What is n-Track Studio
___

n-Track Studio is an audio & MIDI multitrack recorder for Windows.
A complete recording studio in your PC: all you need is a soundcard and some
free space on your hard disk to store audio data. The program supports
simultaneous recording from multiple 16 and 24 bit soundcards, and
real-time audio
effects can be applied non-destructively to each track, allowing the
user to listen
immediately to the result of a change in the parameters of an effect.
Built-in effects include Reverb, Dynamics, Multiband Compression,
Echo, Pitch Shift,
Chorus Parmetric EQ, Linear Phase EQ & Spectrum analyzer.
The program can use third party DirectX and VST plug-ins to process
in real-time audio
signals in a number of different ways. Effects can also be used to
process the recorded
signal in real-time so that the computer can act as a multi-effects device.
MIDI tracks can be imported and exported to regular MIDI files, and
edited using
the built in piano-roll based MIDI editing.
When all the tracks have been recorded and all the settings are correct,
all the tracks can be mixed down to a single wave file for recording it to

Using or making play lists with a Bookport

2006-06-26 Thread Norma A. Boge-Conyers
Hi listers,

I realize there is no play list function per se in a Bookport. But,
I was wondering if anyone has come up with a round about way of
making a play list, or for having the unit play files in shuffle
mode. Right now I'm looking at making folders with a random list of
music files, created by hand, and this task seems rather
daunting. Your comments or hints would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Re: Online storage of music

2006-10-17 Thread Norma A. Boge-Conyers
Hi Clifford, here is the article which was posted to this list a while back.
HTH Norma

Review: Oboe Locker protects music files
By ALEX VEIGA
AP Business Writer
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Having your entire music collection at your fingertips
is simple
enough if you own an iPod or other portable digital player with multiple
gigabytes
of storage - until you drop it. Or the PC that you use to synch your player
has a
meltdown. Then what?
One option is turning to MP3tunes' Oboe Locker, a Web-based service
launched by the
founder of the original MP3.com, one of the first online sites to offer
music downloads
in the late 1990s.
Oboe provides an affordable way to protect against a catastrophic loss of
music files
with an added perk: Users can listen to their own music on virtually any
computer.
In testing the service, I found it simple to use, although I wasn't able to
try my
hand at dialing up my music collection on a mobile phone, PDA or other
portable devices
with Internet access. Those enticing features won't be available until
later this
year.
The Oboe Locker's biggest benefit might be that it can serve as an
unlimited online
storage backup for your music files. The no-limit bandwidth will cost you
$39.95
a year.
A free version of the service lets users save music files found online
directly into
the locker and listen to them from any computer, but it doesn't allow users
to make
backup copies of their own music files.
I tested a premium version of the service.
To get started, Oboe requires users to download an application that scans
the computer
for music files and playlists and handles the job of uploading them to the
company's
servers.
Oboe works with Apple Computer Inc.'s Macintosh computers and PCs running
either
Microsoft Corp.'s Windows or the Linux operating systems. It also supports
most song
file formats, including MP3s and copy-protected tracks purchased through
iTunes and
other online retailers.
Copy-protected tracks retain their playback restrictions.
The service limits the size of individual files to 20 megabytes. However,
it puts
no limit on how much music users can upload.
Don't even think about using Oboe to backup your music without a broadband
Internet
connection.
When I tested Oboe, I had about 1,800 digital tracks stored on my
Windows-based computer,
but it would have taken more than 24 hours to transfer everything over a
DSL connection.
So I ended up uploading 344 tracks, or about 1.4 gigabytes, over several
hours.
Uploaded files that are missing data on the artist, track name or other
details are
set aside until you can fill in the blanks. Users must edit the information
to be
able to access the tracks.
Once the music is loaded, just call up and sign into the Oboe Locker site
at MP3Tunes.com.
Oboe has a built-in player that lists tracks by album, artist or song. Or
you can
search a playlist. Tracks are streamed at a bit rate of 192 kilobits per
second.
The company also provides a plug-in that enables the locker features to
function
within Apple Computer Inc.'s iTunes software.
I used a friend's iBook and a Dell desktop at the office to access my Oboe
music
locker. Both computers have a broadband Internet connection. My music files
popped
up in the browser and I was able to listen to a stereo stream of my music.
It takes a few seconds to load up the track listing, but the sound was not
discernibly
different than the quality of songs played directly from the hard drive in
my home
computer.
The Oboe file-synching software can automatically make an online copy of
any new
music added to a computer after the initial installation.
But users can't be logged onto their Oboe account or synch files between
their music
locker and a computer on more than two PCs at a time. The company says it
tracks
whether an account has too many simultaneous users and will shut those
down.
Still, nothing prevents a premium Oboe account holder from copying tracks
from his
virtual locker to any number of computers.
Oboe also allows users to load up their music locker with free tracks -
typically
MP3s - available for download online. One can enter the Web link to a song
file into
Oboe it will be copied into the virtual hold.
The company has plug-ins for Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers that
streamlines
the process to one click of the mouse.
As someone sometimes disappointed with music selections at parties, I like
the prospect
of virtually taking my entire catalog of music across town or across the
country.
And knowing my personal trove of music is safely backed up in cyberspace,
sparing
me the unsettling prospect of having to rip scores of CDs back into my PC
should
it fail, makes using the Oboe Locker a no-brainer.

Movies. To schedule a program to record, enter on recorded TV, then
hit schedule. Now you are in a list which includes radio buttons to
select by date or by title. To activate these buttons, you need to
click with the right mouse button. Doing this will bring up further
options which are pretty much self explanatory.
Do you have your cable or satellite TV coaxial cable going directly
into your Media Center? If not, when you schedule something to
record, you will have to make sure that your cable or satellite box
is tuned to the channel you need to record from. If you have your
coaxial going directly into your media center, you will be
fine. Regarding the guide section, you should be able to arrow up
and down and look at what programs are currently running and I think
you should be able to look up to 14 days ahead but I'm not sure. I
know you can schedule a recording up to 14 days in advance. A cool
thing about the guide is if your cable or satellite is wired directly
into your MC, you can just hit enter on a program in the guide and
the program will come up on your TV. I love this feature.

from
http://www.ccrane.com/radios/am-fm-radios/teac-gf-350-am-fm-radio-turntable-cd-recorder.aspx

The new TEAC GF-350 AM/FM Radio Turntable has a vinyl record player
and built-in CD Recorder/CD Player. This means you can record your
records permanently
to a CD! It plays 33-1/3, 45, and 78 rpm records with a ceramic
cartridge. Recording the LPs to CD is the easiest of any system we
have seen. Uses lank
CD-R or CD-RW discs available anywhere, but we recommend the
Maxell CD-R Music
to guarantee the highest quality recordings. Can also record any
audio to CD that you feed into the Auxiliary Line In. The small,
black console has fine
acoustics and a decent modern analog AM/FM radio with tuning light.
Handy remote control included.
Size: 18.5" W x 9" H x 14" D. $399.95

WMP 11 and poor audio quality

2006-12-21 Thread Norma A. Boge-Conyers
Hi listers, my husband just installed WMP 11 and now the quality of
the audio is muffled, like there is a setting enabled that should not
be or vice versa. Even using the WMP 11 EQ didn't help
completely. So far the quality is poor when playing an MP3 file or
commercial CD. I found a suggestion on the Microsoft site regarding
the renaming of ACM files, which didn't help. If anyone has any
suggestions, please advise.Thanks, Norma

Poor PC Audio quality/was Re: WMP 11 and poor audio quality

2006-12-22 Thread Norma A. Boge-Conyers
Hi again,

Since my initial post, I have discovered that *all audio on my
husband's PC is of poor quality. So, I guess I am thinking it could
be the sound card, the speakers, a setting in Audio HQ or
somewhere. Since this happened all at once, I am doubting whether it
is the sound card or speakers. So, if anyone has any troubleshooting
suggestions, I would be most appreciative. He has a Sound Blaster
Live 24 bit card, and is running XP Home SP 2.

Thanks,

RE: can anybody help with labling cd's or dvd's

I use sheets of clear laminating material, available at any office
supply store. I can have multiple lines if necessary and can cut the
material as a custom fit. And it is thinner than Dymo tape, thus
reducing the possibility of the braille catching in a player. HTH

The laminating material I use is self adhesive. Sarah, not sure what
you are asking. I braille the info onto the laminating sheet with a
slate and stylus. I cut the label out with a scissors, peel off the
backing paper and attach to the CD face. HTH

Mr. Juan,

I'm not sure if you got an anser to your question, so here goes. I
really like CD Trustee, it was recommended by several on this list
when I was looking for an accessible music database program. I use
Jaws, and it works well with the program. I'm sorry I don't have an
URL for you, but I'm sure a search using your favorite search engine
will find it. Let me know if I can be of further help.

Jason, I'm using the latest version of the Napster client with Jaws 8
and it is quite Jaws friendly, IMHO. Much better access with Jaws
8. As far as the DRM goes, it seems it applies to Napster
subscribers, who are very limited in what they can do with the music
they download. I buy tracks and albums ala carte so am able to burn
to CD, etc. HTH Norma

MP3 Direct Cut

Hi, I told someone about MP3 Direct Cut but she is having problems

can one obtain them? Any other tips to get a beginning user started

Hi Ray, one Sirius receiver with the knob for tuning to the various

rather small but very distinguishable. The boom box has 2 large
buttons for volume control and the other buttons are distinguishable
to the touch. If I can answer any more questions, just let me know,
I'm happy to be of help. Happy 2006, Norma ([EMAIL PROTECTED])

Hi Ray, I haven't had too bad of a time with antenna placement,
though in the house I get the best results with the antenna facing
southwest. I would have to move it sometimes when the climate
changed, or when there were significant solar flares or
whatever. Just kidding a little there. Anyway, right now I have the
antenna outside on our upper deck, facing west. With the antenna
outside I rarely get any problems with the transmission, but I do
understand this is not an option for everyone. HTH Norma

ACB Radio Management Changes

2006-03-11 Thread Norma A. Boge-Conyers
Following is a message from Chris Gray, ACB President:

Hello to all:

As you know, Dave Williams was on a leave-of-absence from January 1
through February, 2006. The great team he has built, along with the
tremendous support
of Chrissie Cochrane on loan to us from the Arts Council, has carried
ACB radio forward during this time. Dave returned to his position on
Sunday March
5, 2006 and we are all very happy to have him with us again.

His stay will be relatively short, however. At the time of his
return, Dave tendered his resignation in order to pursue an exciting
opportunity within
the United Kingdom, but not without worldwide ramifications and
exposure for the future either. I'll let Dave tell you more about
that as he is able to
do so.
A final date for Dave's departure has not been completely determined,
but it will be between April 1-10, 2006. Dave has expressed his
intention to remain
positively active on ACB Radio as a producer and an interactive broadcaster.

This development faces ACB with the need to recruit and hire a new
Director or to handle ACB Radio management in a new and different
way. How that works
out will develop over the next few weeks. Dave is deeply and
positively involved in that process and will continue to be so
throughout March. Many others
on the ACB Radio team will be as well.

We will keep you updated as plans develop. I, for one, am very
excited for Dave and want to say what a pleasure it has been to work
with him. Dave began
as a long-time volunteer, moved into his current position, and it's
great to see another ACB Radio Director move on to assume new,
challenging and different
responsibilities.

Thanks and stay tuned..

Chris

Hi, I am running Jaws 7 Pro on a 2005 Media Center and the access is

Signing up for www.allofmp3.com

2006-03-23 Thread Norma A. Boge-Conyers
Hi listers,

I would like to know if anyone living in the United States has
successfully signed up at www.allofmp3.com. This is a Russian site,
so I am wondering if perhaps it is not available to those of us in
the states. I am having difficulty getting signed up, so thought I
would ask.

Thanks,
Norma
