Okay I'll have to sit down and explore the Ez CD Converter itnerface
thoroughly then.

For the CD archive we use Cue/Flac file pairs - the author of Ez CD
Converter calls this a disc image now - but it seems that all the
parameters for setting this mode have all gone? Perhaps they're cleverly
hidden away somewhere and - as you say - the interface is prone to
changing on a regular basis.

I'm not complaining about the $49 I paid, EZ CD Converter has its

It's strange but true, a particular set of users will have no

impossible.

So it is 1 big hurrah for exact audio copy.

Have a great day.

For the ripping, use the external programs tab. If you want to use
flac, you will need to download it separately and install and put the
path to the binary in the external programs tab and specify all the

just don't check the hybernate checkbox and the pc will not hybernate.

Hi. Ok, i've tried out Exact Audio Copy, and i have a couple issues.
First, i have been all over every possible option imaginable, and I can
not, for the life of me figure out how to choose a format to rip the cd
i've got. Second, there is an option in there as to what to do after
the cd is complete, and I'm not sure i like any of the options. the 3

Re: using exact audio copy, or another program to convert cd's to flac

2016-11-12 Thread Dane Trethowan

I have to admit to being annoyed with EZ CD converter as it is now.

What annoys me about this software is that it keeps changing all the time.

When ripping CD'S now the user has no way of knowing just how accurately
EZ has done or what errors it came across, the author of the software
has - for whatever reason - removed the ability to log EZ Converters
actions.

Apart from that - assuming it works correctly which we can't say for
sure now - its a good bundle given its only $49 however Exact Audio Copy
is free and - given a little setting up and tweaking - provides good and
accurate rips all the time and you'll have the log file to prove it .

Regarding file converters? Well that's not a huge problem as all the
encoders/decoders can be easily obtained and Exactly Audio Copy - if
you'd prefer - can be configured to convert from format to format but Ez
CD Converter is very convenient for that sort of thing.

The other reason I'd use Exact Audio Copy if at all possible is that its
just plain far better when it comes to accessibility than Ez CD
Converter ever has been.

2016-11-11 Thread Dane Trethowan
Well how then could Exact Audio Copy have worked find if the CD wasn't
ripped successfully? .

I did say that - sometimes - Exact Audio copy takes a little time to
configure, not every computer and not every drive is the same. so you
may need to do some testing, the documentation that comes with Exact
Audio Copy details various tests and Tweaks you can make.

At the end of the ripping process you can actually view the log telling
you exactly what Exact Audio Copy has done, what errors it has found and
whether Exact Audio Copy was able to fix those errors - whether it took
an hour or a day - the Cd will rip, I've only had to abandon one CD in
all the time I've used Exact Audio Copy, started using it 9 years ago I
think it was though I've not been using it lately.

I've used Exact Audio Copy to salvage contents of damaged audio CD'S
that even a CD player has trouble playing, that's how good Exact Audio
Copy is and full credit to the chap who went out of his way to write the
software, he enjoys his music.

The CD Archive I'm part of uses Exact Audio Copy to archive CD'S and I
don't run the archive, members who maintain the archive told me just how
good Exact Audio Copy was all those years ago.

customisable nature of Exact Audio Copy - you’ll need to set aside a little
time to get everything up and running and making sure that everything is
performing accurately.
I do know there are tutorials available to help configure Exact Audio Copy so
take a look for those with Google.
And finally, Exact Audio Copy is exactly that, exact when it comes to Ripping CD’S
so don’t be surprised if the software takes an hour or more to rip a single CD
depending on its condition, if Exact Audio copy takes five or so minutes to rip a
CD then its not working properly

If you're using original CD'S then there's a good chance they'll show up
99% of the time.

That's the nice thing about Exact Audio Copy - if you're looking to copy
audio discs - it copies them exactly and you'll see it, no more inexact
matches when looking up in a database with an Exact copy of a CD for
example.

Exact Audio Copy also uses the Accuraterip function that makes the
ripping process that little bit easier, other software uses this too
including XLD for Mac and EEzy CD Converter for Windows.

hmmm, I have had no very long times with exact audio copy, except for
one cd which was never ripped successfully at all. My drive was in

Is it normal for Exact Audio Copy to give an error when there's no disc in the drive?

2011-04-15 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi.

The subject says it all. I start Exact Audio Copy with nothing in the
drive, and I get the following.

Unhandled exception

at 02B410DE - ACCESS_VIOLATION

OK

I prefer to start a program with nothing in the drive. If it turns out I
need to have a CD in the drive that's fine. I just want to know if this is
normal behavior or not.

Thanks in advance.

Flac is a lossless format which means you don't lose sound quality compressing
to that format. It is a bit larger than mp3 however so if space is a
consideration go with mp3. Otherwise flac is definitely the better choice.

It will give you a perfect rip if you use flac and as long as your cd isn't
damaged in any way. EAC definitely does the best job of ripping cds at
bit-perfect, i.e. a true exact copy, of any ripper I've tried.
Mp3 of course by definition isn't perfect because it compresses out some data
in addition to whatever other flaws are found in the cd itself.

It will give you a perfect rip if you use flac and as long as your cd isn't
damaged in any way. EAC definitely does the best job of ripping cds at
bit-perfect, i.e. a true exact copy, of any ripper I've tried.
Mp3 of course by definition isn't perfect because it compresses out some
data in addition to whatever other flaws are found in the cd itself.

Flac is a lossless format which means you don't lose sound quality
compressing to that format. It is a bit larger than mp3 however so if
 space
is a consideration go with mp3. Otherwise flac is definitely the better
 choice.

Exact Audio Copy

2009-12-30 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi everyone!

Okay, there seems to be a little confusion here, I put Exact Audio Copy up on
sendspace a little over a week ago now so the link will no longer work.
Secondly I didn't put up any tutorial on the software, I know there are
tutorials about but I've never need one so as a consequence of that I've never
gone looking for one nor do I own one smile.

People have been contacting me privately about an Exact Audio Copy Tutorial
so I don't know where that all came from however, if anyone wants the software
then certainly! I can upload it again.

Hi,

While I'm not aware of a tutorial specifically dealing with eac from a

There is also an exact audio copy e-mail list, where you can normally get

questions about Exact Audio Copy

2008-04-12 Thread stever2525
Hi this is Steve needing information about Exact Audio Copy available from:
www.exactaudiocopy.de

I have been using CDEX for ripping CDs to my computer. I was told that I
would get better results from Exact Audio Copy.
I just downloaded and installed the program and looked at the FAQs. There is
definitely more of a learning curve than with CDEX.
Has anyone checked out this program and knows how accessible it is using
JAWS5.1 with XP Home.
Is this program worth pursuing?
Any assistance would be appreciated, thank you.

Is it worth pursuing? Yes it is. There is a learning curve, but between
hydrogen audio and other documentation, you'll get it. I do like it better
than CDex, because it handles your resources better.
Is it usable (I hate the term accessible,) with JAWS? It wouldn't be
worth pursuing if it weren't.

Re: Exact Audio Copy Class

2008-03-06 Thread Dane Trethowan
Exactly! this has been mentioned on-list before and if you look
through the pc-audio archives you'll also see that I (and a couple of
others) have discussed EAC at length, I went so far as to say (then as
I do now) that Exact Audio Copy is the best CD ripping solution on the
planet because of its accuracy, flaxibility and configurability.
I've been using Exact Audio Copy for the past 5 years and I've
discussed aspects of my time with EAC and how I (along with others)
have evolved a CD library of Cue and Flac files, these pairs can be
both produced and used with Exact Audio Copy to produce some
astonishing feats and these keep getting more numurus as time goes on
so I'll summaries what cue and Flac file pairing allows me to do with
EAC at the present.
Firstly, I have over 10,000 CD'S formatted in this way. I have up
until this point kept them backed up on DVD discs with a simple text
file to catalogue all of them but as of tomorrow? Well, all this
content gets dumped on to a NAD (Networked Attached Drive), all my
computers over the network will have access to them.
Next, using EAC or other compatible software, I can use a pair of
files and convert the pair to MP3 or whatever tracks. Suppose for
example you had a pair of files called SuperTramp - Breakfast In
America.cue and .flac as a pair, you could use Exact Audio Copy to
have the MP3 tracks of the album produced. further to this, you could
make an exact CD copy using the file pair for your CD player.
Now of course, what I'm talking about here can't be done overnight, it
takes a bit of setting up and a few little extra tools make the job a
lot easier but if I and other people can do it and you want your music
at your fingertips then I certainly recommend you having a look at
this as other list members have done, actually got a note from one a
few days ago about what a difference this approach had made to both he
having accurate and error-free rips and music at his convenience.

 Attention VIPConduit Supporting Members

Dennis, Startbutton, invites you to join him for a new class beginning
on Tuesday, March 18, at 9:00PM Eastern, in Dennis's Classroom.
Below you will find a description of the Exact Audio Copy Class.
You do not need to register ahead of time.

 Learning Exact Audio Copy.

 Time: 9:00PM Eastern

 Location: Dennis's Classroom

Number of classes 2 to 4.

 Experience level intermediate.

Blind friendliness level, 8 points out of a possible 10 points.

This class is open to supporting members of VIPConduit.

Exact audio copy may be the most accurate CD ripping and burning package
that I have ever used in the last ten years.

The latest addition of this program has several improvements over the
earlier version that I reviewed up on the tutorial section of the VIP
 conduit web site.

You no longer have to manually set up the program to get the best
 settings for the ripper.
This should significantly shorten the learning curve on an extremely
 cool program.

Here is a list of the subjects we will be covering during this class.

 1. Installation

 2. Setup using the setup wizard.

 3. Ripping are first CD.

3,A. Retrieving CD info from the CDDB data base.

3,B. Talking about what keys to use to rip your first CD.

3,C. Selecting and unselecting tracks to be ripped in the list of
 tracks.

3,d. Saving your tracks to the hard drive.

 4. Burning are first CD.

4,A. Loading up the CD lay out editor.

4,B. Selecting the tracks you want to burn to CD.

 4,C. Starting the burning process

4,d. Closing the CD lay out editor.

 5. Copying a CD.

5,a. Saving a copy of the image and q sheet to be used in burning the
 CD.

5,b. Once again loading the layout editor.

5,c. Loading the image and q sheet in to the layout editor for burning
 to CD.

5,D. Burning the q sheet and image to the CD.

Special note: This program only works with audio CD's.

It will not burn data CDs or DVD disks.

That's a fair question. Easy CD DA Extractor comes very close but for
one thing, you cannot set the drive offsets so therefore you don't get
exact rips.

Re: Exact Audio Copy Class

2008-03-06 Thread Dane Trethowan
Well yes, it can be made to do some file conversions, you can for
example convert from wave to MP3 and this feature is even further
enhanced if you know the command line structure of the 32-bit console
versions of say Flac or LAME, you can them set these command lines up
in EAC and load them on a profile basis, one for Flac, one for
different presets of LAME and so forth.
I probably haven't explained myself properly here so please (if you
need to) ask questions.

yes, the software is even better than it was before with the
introduction of several improvements including the accurate rip
feature which compares other rips (done by EAC) of the same CD over
the Internet, from that information EAC can automatically configure
your CD drive for optimum performance when ripping rather than you
having to specify the ofset speeds manually etc.

 High Steve,
Where can I get this software, and how much will it cost me?
I have been trying to make my home made CD's look like store bought CD's
 sense the late 1990's.
This software sounds like it will do what I need it to do for me as far as
 ripping and burning CD's goes.
Sorry I'm not a VIP, other words, I'd attend the class.
 My best regards.

That's a fair question. Easy CD DA Extractor comes very close but for
one thing, you cannot set the drive offsets so therefore you don't get
exact rips.

Alternatively you can set it up so that each CD inserted will be
identified automatically by EAC, that's in the general options f9.

I found that confusing at first myself.
You have to go to the database menu alt+d then arrow down to get cd
information from and press enter. You can select remote freedb. A
 warning
message will appear which you can ignore and click yes.
That should get you the cd info.

None of the disks I put in to this program get identified by their
 data
base. I can also find no way to import my web information. I
 find other
options relative to freed but not the important ones. Anyone know
 where
 they are?

Re: Exact Audio Copy Directory and File Question

2007-09-21 Thread Bill Scherer
Hi Dan,
In my experience with EAC, I don't think you can get it to automatically put
them in to a artist's directory.
Also if you want to see the files in the order they are on the disc, I think if
you open the directory first then go
back to EAC and save them they will be in the directory in the order which EAC
saves them.
The next time you open that directory they may or may not be in that order
unless you set the parameters of
how you want them by going in to the directory and setting the details to how
you want them to be
displayed.
Hope this makes sense.

Re: Exact Audio Copy Directory and File Question

2007-09-21 Thread Dane Trethowan
Ok, well you can have Exact Audio Copy put and sort your files into
directories by using various variables such as %a for artist, %t for
title, %c for CD title etc, I fthink a full list of all the available
variables appear on the screen in the filenames tab.
If you have any further questions then you may wish to email me
privately as I use EAC all the time or nearly all the time, haven't
used it for a while but now I have Windows running as a virtual
machine on my Mac its time to use the best ripper in the world again
smile. There is also a reasonably new version too which can e
obtained from http://www.exactaudiocopy.de

Re: Exact Audio Copy Directory and File Question

2007-09-21 Thread Dane Trethowan
Yes to both questions, as I outlined in an earlier message, you need
to use various variables to tell EAC how you want the file named, you
can put the songs in order of how they are played on the original CD
in several different ways, the first is to use the track number
variable %n before the track artist or track title, the standard
format for a file name of a track however doesn't usually include a
track number, its just the artist followed by a dash and then the
track title, and you would set the variables in EAC'S track naming
edit box accordingly, %a - %t,.
Now if you just use title and artist then you'll need to get EAC to
generate a playlist, when you open the playlist with Winamp, VLC etc
then the files will be played in the order they appeared on the
original CD.
Getting back to placement of files in directories with eac, use a
line something similar to this in the Track Name edit box to give EAC
an idea of where you want files placed, %a\%c\%a - %t would tell
EAC to create a directory corresponding to the name of the artist,
create a sub-directory under that corresponding to the name of the CD
and name the track with the artist followed by a - and then the title.
To tell EAC where your master directory is on your drive (that is to
say where you want all your music stored) then go to the Directory
tab of EAC and set it up there, you can also have EAC to prompt you
where you want each CD stored if you prefer that, I found the latter
approach very handy actually when ripping books.

Exact Audio Copy

2005-09-25 Thread Andrea Sherry
Have been sent a file extracted with this program. It appears to be one large
file with an .ape extension. The archive also contains a .que file which
appears to contain information regarding the separation of the file in to
tracks.
I don't have this EAC on my computer just now.
When I install it to deal with this long file how do I go about recreating the
original cdrom? What settings do I have to arrange for this to occur?
Any assistance appreciated.
Cheers
Andrea
