RE: Recording Internet Radio Streams

One approach is to place the stream Url of your station into the Open Url box
from the file menu of Tapin Radio and record from there.

Hi everyone. Thanks for all of the suggestions - two or three of them are very
appealing (depending on my cashflow).

I've downloaded both Tapin Radio and Replay Radio but I'm not sure exactly how
to use them (although a lot of it is probably common sense). Are any Jaws
scripts required and, as a separate question, are there any tutorials/guides
available in text or audio?

The main thing I'm trying to do at the moment (preferably with Tapin) is to
record the internet station that I broadcast on so, because it's not in the
station directories of these types of programs, I'm trying to add the stream
URL and instruct the software to record. Any advice on doing this - if
tutorials with such info aren't available - will be gratefully received.

Many thanks for your time and help.

limited to either you taking the time to find and save the presets or, you
installing whatever playlist M3U's etc that you've put together yourself,
but 35 is news to me. Note: just because I've never heard of 35 being the

Stations will slip in and out from time to time no different than most
streaming devices. So it's entirely up to you as are most other things

I recently considered buying one rather than another mainstream Internet

I was initially told the internet radio on the VRS was simple to use and had

A couple of folk then said stick with your I phone for internet radio

Peoples views would be appreciated.

My main criteria is stable streaming, as an example my I phone cuts out much
more often than my static Roberts internet radio.

Where do we think the technology in the VRS sits

Yes, variations of these are available in America.

I believe we have or had one list member who was using a Sangean product and
I think he was in the United Kingdom but wehre you are really shouldn't be
an issue here.

One of Sangean's biggest markets is Europe and Europe use either DAB or
DAB+ which the Internet radio sets sold in Australia handle so I most
likely could answer any questions you have about these radio sets.

There's at least one model of Sangean I know of which is marketed in the
U.S. and that's the WRF28 and there may be more.

The crucial thing is here to make sure that - whatever Sangean radio you buy
- is compatible with the Undok or iSangean App for IOS or Android.

These are two separate areas. Humanware does have some set stations for various
regions around the world. However, the individual user can create a personal
favorite by pressing the bookmark button.

Exactly yes but the list of favorites itself - unless I'm very much mistaken -
is stored online.

If the VRStream has done its work properly then you should be actually able to
access those Favorites in a web browser and configure them manually, VRstream
or no VRstream, all other Internet radios use this service.

Hi!

I'm not a Victor Reader Stream user and I don't use my iPhone much for
Internet radio however I believe I use a far better solution than a
Victor Reader Stream will ever be and an iPhone is part of this - or
indeed an Android phone if you'd prefer -, the phone acts as the remote
control for my Sangean Internet radios and tuners here.

Yes, variations of these are available in America.

For Australia and Europe Sangean offer Multi Band multi function
Internet radios and - in Australia at least - there are four models to
choose from, two portable units, a tabletop music system and a Hi-Fi
tuner so choose the one that reflects your needs.

In The U.S., Sangean have the WRF28 or WRF28, as far as I know those two
units are battery portable sets.

The App for Android/iPhone is very easy to use and even mirrors the
display of the radio.

All Sangean models now come with Spotify Connect and the App itself has
been updated so the user can stream an iTunes library from the phone
itself to the radio.

Naturally there are a lot more details I could give about these radios
and their setups and I really should do another Podcast on the whole
subject, I did one 3 years ago I think it was but since then the whole
thing has gone ahead in leaps and bounds.

The Victor second gen is other than sitting at the PC, the only streaming
device I use and I've never heard of only 35 presets. The presets are
limited to either you taking the time to find and save the presets or, you
installing whatever playlist M3U's etc that you've put together yourself,
but 35 is news to me. Note: just because I've never heard of 35 being the
limit, certainly doesn't mean that it's not the case.

Stations will slip in and out from time to time no different than most
streaming devices. So it's entirely up to you as are most other things
right?

The VRS has a robust library of radio streams you can search through quite
easily. I simply save them as Favorites.

I do hope one day they can add paid services like TuneIn and Spotify to the

VRS & Internet Radio

2016-10-26 Thread Colin Phelan
Hi Guys,

Seeing that many of you appear to be VRS users.

I recently considered buying one rather than another mainstream Internet
radio as a preference to listening to streaming radio stations on my I
phone.

I was initially told the internet radio on the VRS was simple to use and had
35 pre sets.

A couple of folk then said stick with your I phone for internet radio

Peoples views would be appreciated.

My main criteria is stable streaming, as an example my I phone cuts out much
more often than my static Roberts internet radio.

Where do we think the technology in the VRS sits

Thanks

WStreaming Internet Radio

2016-10-25 Thread Colin Phelan
Hi All,

I really need to sort out my internet radio signal and have a number of
issues.

I am working with my provider to try and improve the coverage in my house
involving installation of home plugs.

I am having trouble connecting the Undok application to the radio
consistently aand as the radio itself is not accessible this renders many of
the features not useable.

Thoughts on making Undok work appreciated.

Thanks

Roark Internet Radio not available any longer?

2016-07-29 Thread Dane Trethowan
This certainly could be the case as I don’t see it stocked along with other
Ruark radio models any longer - the Ruark Radio Gram which has Internet radio
is still available but not the smaller tabletop model it seems -.

Never mind, for those in Australia I’ve found a perfectly adiquit replacement
in the Sangean DDR66 all-in-1 music system.

Like the DDr63 I own its a tabletop music system bursting with features and
functionality, DAB+/FM/Internet radio, CD Player, USB/SD Card playback and
record facilities, Bluetooth Streaming function, can be used with the Undok
IOS/Android App etc.

The DDR66 also boasts audio digital and analogue outputs.

Google will find your local stockist for you or you can search eBay.

Another Internet Radio

2016-03-19 Thread Dane Trethowan

I have one of the new Sangean WRF27C Internet/Dab/FM radio sets.

This model also supports DLNA music streaming and spotify.

Before I get into the ins and outs of this radio I'd like to make one
point abundantly clear, if you want the best performing DAB or Internet
radio then stay away from a combo radio such as this one as you will
certainly be disappointed when compared to units specially designed for
the particular task in mind. This rule does not only apply to the
Sangean WRF27C but also to other combo units I've owned and used, its a
great shame but there we are.

Okay with that out of the way what does the WRF27C offer that the
previous WRF28D didn't? I've already mentioned the Spotify connect
feature and that's a great addition.

The WRF27C is smaller than the WRF28D so its a really nice mid portable
sized package that is thin enough to slip into a bag or brief case.

Controls are pretty much the same as found on the previous model though
they work somewhat differently. For example on the WRF28D a press of
the "Mode" button would instantly change the radios mode from Itnernet
Radio to DAB, then FM, AUX-in, Music Player and back to Internet radio
and would continue the cycle through these modes at every press. A menu
pops up when the "Mode" button is pressed on the WRF27C requiring the
user to use the Jog-Dial on the right hand side of the radio to select
the function and then confirm the selection by pressing the dial in, not
a terribly difficult task but to me a major change nevertheless.

So how does the radio sound compared to the previous model? Though there
isn't as much bass from the smaller speaker I still find the radio an
enjoyable listen particularly given that the speaker has nice clean
treble and excellent mid range characteristics.

The headphone output is excellent and in stereo for those times when
you're listneing to Music, DAB+ and so on.

Unlike the WRF28D, the WRF27C runs on 6 AA batteries which can be
charged in the unit. I'm very glad to say tha battery life in this
model has improved out of sight compared to the previous.

There isn't an Aux-In or a Line-out socket to be found on this model but
the line-out was so poor on the WRF28D anyway so perhaps its just as
well Sangean dropped this in the WRF27C.

Wi-Fi connectivity has been improved with the addition of the 5.0MHZ
band so.

The WRF28D had a USB port for music on a memory stick but this feature
has been removed from the WRF27C which seems rather strange to me given
the radio is a true portable.

So how does the radio go on DAB and FM? I had to perform a number of
scans before the WRF27C would recognise all available DAB+ stations in
my area so poor DAB+ sensitivity has carried over from the previous
model to this one.

FM reception is a joke unless you want to listen to processor noise from
the radio itself rather than good music.

The price tag is around about the same as for the previous model - about
$200 Australian dollars -.

If you haven't tried broadcasting I would say that there are a lot of
internet radio stations out there. Some of them are really good. The rest,
in my opinion, mediocre. The reason I'm telling you this is because some of
these stations will actualy train you while others just give you time on
there server and they really don't care what you do with it.
Like I said I'm not sure if you're a broadcaster looking to start a new
station or if you're just looking in to getting in to broadcasting.
If you've never broadcasted before I can offer you some resources for
training yourself.
I help run a couple of stations.
The most recent one is the VIP Lounge.
http://www.theviploungeradio.com
It's a music based community radio station out of the U.K. but we have
broadcasters from different parts of the world.
We also provide training and support for our presenters.
I also help run Panoramic Radio.
http://www.panoramicradio.com
That station is more of a whatever goes type station. It's very hands-off
and we pretty much just give you your time on the station and you can do
with it what you please.
Feel free to contact me off-list if you want some guidance and/or resources.
Take care

RE: a helping hand in starting up..or working on an internet radio station?

2016-02-16 Thread Humberto Rodriguez
Hello Randy:

To start up a radio station is not that difficult, most people use either
Shoutcast or Icecast as the software generating the stream. You would
choose whether to contract a streaming service or do it yourself in your own
dedicated or PVS server.

To be a DJ with pre-recorded talk programs is the easiest and most flexible
way. To make them live is much more demanding, has to be done at exact
times and the quality depends then not only of your server, but also of your
internet connection and transmission to the server. Being an actual DJ,
that is presenting music programs, has the difficulty of having to pay
royalties, something that on Jan 1, 2016 became much more expensive,
prohibitive for amateur enthusiasts.

I have run an internet radio station for years that has become very
successful with presenters from 24 countries and listeners from 108
countries, but is all in Spanish, it is called http://radiogeneral.com and
soon, I will be starting another one totally in English and consisting
entirely of pre-recorded talk shows or Old Time Radio programs, that will be
called "Radio Broadcast Training Service of the US" whose domain will be
www.rbts.us and if you are interested in doing a weekly pre-recorded talk
show, get in touch with me. You would have to record it, edit the audio and
upload it to the server using FTP.

If anyone on the list is interested in doing a weekly pre-recorded talk show
in Spanish for Radio General, please contact me also. It does not matter if
your Spanish isn't perfect, is accented or grammatically flawed, as long as
it is understandable and pleasing to the ear, it is fine.

Regards,

Humberto

Is anyone on the list resident in Ireland and using DAB radio's, will my
radio's purchased in the UK including a couple of Pure Sonas units work over
there?

Secondly, can anyone recommend a decent affordable fixed mains internet
radio and a rechargeable battery operated internet radio so I can simply
continuing listening to preferred UK stations?

I don't really want anything bigger than the Pure Sonas size unit for those
of you who know it

Many thanks for your assistance

equally to Windows. There's a good book worth the read entitled Take Control
Of iTunes, it was written originally for the Mac but Windows users will be able
to make perfect sense of most of the content.

RE: The Internet Radio Button in iTunes

2014-09-27 Thread Mike Bernard
Hello Dane,
Sorry if I spelled your name incorrectly, I went back into Itunes while I
still had your email reply opened, and as it turns out, Internet radio was
unchecked along with many other options by default. I checked the (internet
radio) button, and the treeview containing the various genres is now
showing. I checked, and I too have version 11.4.
Just installed it this morning, and it installed like a charm on my new hp
pc, which is currently running windows 8.1. Thanks for your help.

Hi!

I've changed the subject line so we all know exactly what this thread is
about ..

The latest version of iTunes is 11.4

The Internet Radio button - according to my Windows 7 computer running
JAWS - can be reached by tabbin around, I hear it announced just after I
leave to Playlists button.

I refer to my system as I'm not exactly sure whether all iTunes layouts
on all computers are the same.

The next thing I would check is to see that Internet Radio is actually
showing on your screen, to do this go into general Preferences from the
Edit menu of iTuens and make sure the Internet Radio view is checked.

Hi, have a look at Mike's Radio World. Don't know the link right know, but
you'll find it easily with google. You have to download the m3u or other
playlist files which include the url, if you open them with an editor. With
the Plextalk Pocket I just copy the play list files into a certain folder.
Maybe that's the same with your DAISY players.

Good luck,

I cannot search for stations allot because it find only a few of them,
not enough. Its more limited then the IPhone for some reason. So I
have to custom import the station, therefore needing the direct URL.
Thanks I will try radio sure.

If you have the latest Victor Stream you can search for the station using
the search feature in the victor.

I just did but it found the station but did not start it.
I search for "south Africa" and got 51 stations.

Re: Arcam internet radio accessibility

2013-11-23 Thread Dane Trethowan
thanks very much for taking the time to learn your radio and posting your
comments and feedback.

the web site and database you're talking about sounds very similar to the
Vtunes or Wifiradio.com databases that several Internet radios I have here use.

I'm wondering if your system has some sort of remote App that can be used on an
IOS or Android device? I appreciate that many people don't have or don't want
an IOS or Android device but - it seems to me - that as we progress down the
technology road, more and more audio and video equipment is allowing for remote
control for phones and tablets thus there's a huge pool of accessibility we're
able to tap.

Arcam internet radio accessibility

2013-11-23 Thread Walter Ramage
Hi All. back in July all my electronic equipment including hi-fi,
computers, radios, telephones, everything electronic! was fried when my home
was struck by lightning. It took around 8 to 10 weeks to get the insurance
thing sorted out and buy new equipment. I decided to take the opportunity
and upgrade my stuff and I now play my PC through an Arcam Solo Neo mini
system with Cord interconnects and cord speaker cable driving the B & W CM8
speakers. I have a higher end system down stairs in the lounge but for this
room up here it is adequate, in fact very good. It has taken me until now
to turn my attention to some of the facilities of the Arcam Solo Neo. This
unit has FM radio, DAB radio, A CD player; this CD player is what it says it
is, a CD player. It won't play MP3 discs but it has a USB port for a pen
drive so it is unimportant that the CD player won't play mp3 discs. It has
a power output of 75w per channel and has the ability to feed speaker
systems in different parts of the house, if that is your thing. The bit
that interested me the most is the internet radio so I set about finding out
if a blind, a totally blind person can access it. Via the unit it's self
the short answer is no as there is no verbal feedback and the menu system is
too complicated to memorise so unfortunately I can't use the main unit for
internet radio. The good thing though about it is when you do get into the
radio stations you can use your up and down arrows to browse through the
stations. However the positive thing is, although I can't access the
internet radio via the Solo Neo, I can do so through the arcam internet
radio web site. When up and running you can browse stations via location.
If you choose this option then you can scroll down through countries which
are put into continental blocks. So, if I scroll down to North America I
have the choice of Mexico, The United States or Canada. I chose the United
states. When in there the list is broken down into states and you are
informed by each state how many internet stations are available in that
state. For example; Tennessee had 63 stations but Virginia had 129. When
you click on the state you want then the list gives the name of the station,
what kind of station it is and location. When you click on play you are
connected immediately. You can create categories for your favourite
stations i.e. news, talk, music or sports etc. and these can be saved in
your favourites section. Interestingly what you do on the website is also
duplicated on the Arcam unit itself. So when on the website I've so far
created two favourite categories; Talk and Country. Now if I could use the
main unit I would find these options there also. The website is completely
accessible but the Arcam Solo Neo is not. If you have an Arcam product such
as the Neo then you have to get sighted help to register it buy inputting
the unit number and creating an Arcam account but it is fun not having to
search for internet stations on the web where things can be hit or miss.
Here you have a list of stations you can connect to with ease. I hope this
information is helpful. Walter.

Hi!

Thanks for all the feedback on the review of this radio.

As promised here's the link to the operating instructions manual if
anyone would like to give it a read or do some further research.

As I explained in the review the manual comes on a CD ROM with the radio
and several languages are available on the Manual Disc.

If link doesn't work the first time then try again in a few minutes,
file may still be uploading to Dropbox.

Operating Instructions Manual For Sangean WRF28/28D Internet Radio

2013-11-22 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi!

Thanks for all the feedback on the review of this radio.

As promised here's the link to the operating instructions manual if anyone
would like to give it a read or do some further research.

As I explained in the review the manual comes on a CD ROM with the radio and
several languages are available on the Manual Disc.

If link doesn't work the first time then try again in a few minutes, file may
still be uploading to Dropbox.

2013-08-01 Thread Dane Trethowan
Yes, you can hear Internet radio on an Apple TV and the system is quite user
friendly, I myself would prefer the Sangean WRF-28 for dedicated Internet radio
listening hwever, more choice of stations, more flexible, an incredibly useful
and flexible IOS remote control App etc.

Although I certainly enjoy reading Dane's reviews of various radios, I
just have to comment that my iPhones are great as internet radios.
Granted, they need external amplification and speakers unless you are
willing to listen through phones, but it is so easy to connect the
iPhone either via blue tooth or via the 3.5 mm. jack to other components.

All of the internet radios I hear about have accessibility issues, some

You may need sighted assistance for this, you go into the Help menu of

I initially thought that the Access code might be the Mac address of

And as a final footnote to my previous reply .

Not everyone has an iPhone and its at this point where the Sangean WR28
comes into its own, like the Logitech U.E. Radio, Squeezebox series etc
the WR28 can be controlled via a web browser.

Bluetooth Radios was Sangean WFR-28 Internet Radio Again

2013-07-29 Thread Dane Trethowan
No doubting that for 1 moment, you're talking to someone who has been
using IOS devices for 3 years and has now taken up using Android devices
and will - if ever they become accessible - start using Windows Mobile
devices .

Have you considered using Airplay with your Radio Apps on your IOS
devices for even better sound.

One could argue of course that using a radio such as the Sangean WR-28
with an IOS device is next to pointless given that you can purchase very
good radio Apps such as oOtunes for IOS and I take that point but to me?
Well, there's something about a separate portable or tabletop or Hi-Fi
radio where the iPhone controls it, just like say a radio with a remote
controller.

Speaking of radios, has anyone seen the new Sangean Bluetooth models?
They transmit their audio to bluetooth headphones, speakers and so on,
wodnered how long it would be before we saw those come into the market
place.

Go to Logitech.com and you will not have any trouble finding it. They even
have a sample for you to listen to. It sounds good, but of course, that

No problems!

I'm still learning about this radio, its the most comprehensive and feature
filled package I've ever had the pleasure to investigate so if you have any
further questions I'll do my best to answer them but can't promise anything.

You may need sighted assistance for this, you go into the Help menu of
the radio and obtain the access code from there.

I initially thought that the Access code might be the Mac address of the
radio which can be gotten from your Rooter but this didn't work.

The access code is 7 characters long.

If I find another way of getting the code then I'll let the list know.

2013-07-26 Thread Dane Trethowan
DAB stands for Digital Audio Broadcasting and no, if you're a resident of the
U.S. then you wouldn't have it.

The Logitech Radio is also a good choice and has plenty to recommend it, I have
the Logitech Squeezebox Boom and Logitech Squeezebox Radio and I'm in no hurry
to part with any of those .

The Logitech radios are only Internet radios/music players whereas the Sangean
has the extra FM and - where appropriate - DAB bands.

Having said that the 1 thing i really like in favor of the logitech Radios is
that a user without vision can set the alarm clock as a sighted person would
set a clock radio, the Sangean radio has alarm functions but they're not too
easy to set without vision, the Logitech Radio alarms can be set through the
HTML web interface at <http://www.mysqueezebox.com> through your registered
account.

The Logitech Radio itself is mono but has a Stereo Headphones output, get 2
radios and you can "Sync" them together, you then have a "Stereo" setup.

Subject: Notes On The Sangean WRF-28/WRF-28D Internet Radio

Hi!

I got this radio earlier this week and yesterday I finally started making
some progress so I can tell the list a little about this incredibly
versatile tool.

First a note to U.S. list members, this radio is available in North America
so look for the model number WRF-28, in Australia, The United Kingdom and
the rest of Europe look for the Sangean WRF-28D - D Standing for DAB or
DAB+.

This radio has 5 modes, Internet Radio, Music Player, Line-in DAB and FM
bands, - the WRF-28 version is without the DAB band.

Each band is easily selected with the "Mode" button which cycles between the
bands.

Layout of controls is simple enough, there are 2 lines of 5 mini piano type
keys on the front, the first row are "mode", "Info", "Menu", "Back" and
"Forward", the row below that are your presets numbered 1 through 5 though
these buttons have secondary functions when in the Music player, they
control the play, pause, forward and rewind actions.

The "Volume" control is easily identifiable on the right and a "Mute" button
is found in the middle of this, the "Standby" button is found at the top
right hand corner of the display which is above the "Volume" control.

To the left is the 3 inch full range speaker which sounds incredibly nice
for a radio of this size, yes its only a mono speaker but most Internet
radio stations are in mono anyway and the radio does have a stereo
headphones and a line-out jack for stereo listening.

Setup is very easy if you have some vision, when the radio is first started
the "Setup Wizard" appears on the screen where you make basic settings
including your current country/region, how you want the clock set, your
Network settings and so on, this radio is WPS compatible so you can connect
to a secured and protected network at the touch of a button through a WPS
compatible router.

By now I'm assuming you're all wondering how does one find Internet radio
stations? If you have vision then that process is easy done by using the
menus and the onscreen interface but that doesn't mean someone without
vision can't do the same all be it by using slightly different procedures.

The user can register the radio with "Radio Fronteer" which acts as a bridge
between your Radio and the database of radio stations, from the Radio
Fronteer web site you can add and manipulate your "Favourite Radio Stations"
list on your radio, you log into the Radio Fronteer site, set up your
favourite stations list by searching and adding stations and then press play
etc.

If the web site isn't convenient and you have an IOS device such as an
iPhone or iPad then you can use the App to automate the process.

Once you've found a radio station you want to listen to you can hold down 1
of the preset buttons to have that location stored for quick and convenient
access next time.

DAB radio was easy enough to set up, the radio automatically scanned for
DAB+ radio stations in my area.

Still more to come on the topic of this radio so WATCH THIS SPACE .

To the left is the 3 inch full range speaker which sounds incredibly nice for a
radio of this size, yes its only a mono speaker but most Internet radio
stations are in mono anyway and the radio does have a stereo headphones and a
line-out jack for stereo listening.

Setup is very easy if you have some vision, when the radio is first started the
"Setup Wizard" appears on the screen where you make basic settings including
your current country/region, how you want the clock set, your Network settings
and so on, this radio is WPS compatible so you can connect to a secured and
protected network at the touch of a button through a WPS compatible router.

By now I'm assuming you're all wondering how does one find Internet radio
stations? If you have vision then that process is easy done by using the menus
and the onscreen interface but that doesn't mean someone without vision can't
do the same all be it by using slightly different procedures.

The user can register the radio with "Radio Fronteer" which acts as a bridge
between your Radio and the database of radio stations, from the Radio Fronteer
web site you can add and manipulate your "Favourite Radio Stations" list on
your radio, you log into the Radio Fronteer site, set up your favourite
stations list by searching and adding stations and then press play etc.

If the web site isn't convenient and you have an IOS device such as an iPhone
or iPad then you can use the App to automate the process.

Once you've found a radio station you want to listen to you can hold down 1 of
the preset buttons to have that location stored for quick and convenient access
next time.

DAB radio was easy enough to set up, the radio automatically scanned for DAB+
radio stations in my area.

Still more to come on the topic of this radio so WATCH THIS SPACE .

You will have to find a web site with a link that says something about
playig it with a media player. Some may have different links for different
media players. find one for Winamp or a general media layer. While on the
link hit the applications key and select copy shortcut and hit enter.

now go to Fubar and hit control + u and paste the link there and hit enter.

RE: Choosing Laptop for Internet Radio Broadcasting

2011-11-07 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi Danny, it's certainly possible, I do the Mosen Explosion on Mushroom FM
every week this way. I use a tiny Toshiba Portige R600, there are newer
replacement models now, I think the R800 may be out. My wife has a
compatible laptop, so in the studio, we have a docking station/port
replicator. Connected to that is the hard drive containing all the music and
other elements, and the external sound card, an Edirol UA1-EX. We also use
an external keyboard.

The Edirol sound card goes in and out of the broadcast console. It's a
pretty no frills kind of card, but it was easy to set up and it sounds
great. I suspect that too, will have been superseded by a newer model by
now.

That said, you can use StationPlaylist Studio on a laptop with a good
quality USB microphone, and Studio's own audio pipeline. that is a much
simpler set-up, and can still give good results. So really the key thing is
to determine whether you want a hardware mixer in the picture or not. In
most cases, with a good microphone, there may not be a need for one anymore
and I have successfully broadcast via WiFi or 3G from all sorts of
locations.

This is an additional advantage of having everything on a laptop. You can
take it with you and broadcast from cool places.

Jonathan

Hi everyone. I know that this is a very generalised question and that
people like to please their own preferences, but any general advice on what
to consider or specific recommendations of appropriate machines would be
gratefully received. Basically, I'm looking to do some internet radio
broadcasting, and I believe that my current laptop is presenting issues with
my output (the music broadcasts fine, but vocal broadcasting comes out in
very poor quality, even though using exactly the same microphone and
soundcard set-up sounds fine in GoldWave). I presume that I need a certain
level of RAM and speed of processor, and that there may even be other issues
to consider. I have no experience of Apple products, so would be most
comfortable with a Windows XP product if a suitable one is still produced or
likely to be available secondhand. Likewise, I'd much rather use a laptop
as this would satisfy my other needs and enable me to broadcast from places
other than my home, but even clarification of whether it is
feasible/realistic to do internet broadcasting with a laptop rather than a
PC would be very helpful.

Many thanks in advance for any help, Danny

Hi all

Yes I know this subject has been discussed exhaustively on this list. But
there is something I have been wondering about.

Is there any kind of software around which would allow you to do the
following.

Set beginning and ending time for recording from an internet radio station
while you are not at home. And then the tricky one:

It must connect to the internet radio station when starting the recording
by
itself and then disconnect when the recording is finished. This means
that
the recording must be completely automatic.

Total Recorder will do this. It has a scheduler that will start and
stop the web transmision, it can even turn off your PC when the
recording is done if you prefer. And it's very accessible. However,
it's not free. And, in Vista or 7, unless you can use background
recording, you will need to run it through a 2nd sound card, or shut
down your screen reader because there's no way for Total Recorder to
record the radio station without also recording your screen reader.
But if you're using XP, you're good to go. - Original Message

Total Recorder will do this. It has a scheduler that will start and stop the
web transmision, it can even turn off your PC when the recording is done if
you prefer. And it's very accessible. However, it's not free. And, in Vista
or 7, unless you can use background recording, you will need to run it
through a 2nd sound card, or shut down your screen reader because there's no
way for Total Recorder to record the radio station without also recording
your screen reader. But if you're using XP, you're good to go.

Subject: recording from internet radio

Yes. I am almost certain that the standard version doesn't include the
scheduler.

Just so we're clear, you are talking about the "pro" version of Total
Recorder..right?
