Doc,

Thanks for the reply. I didn't see anything on the xm site which referenced the
online service, but maybe I was just looking in the wrong place.

But, your reply clears things up and is much appreciated.

Re: xm radio online service

2004-11-06 Thread Kathy and Tom
Hi Ray and Doc,
Kathy Arnold here. I tried to sign up for XM Radio online last night. I
experienced the same problem as you guys did. So, I called their tech
support. Actually, I called the 800 number and they transferred me to tech
support. Anyway, they weren't very helpful. ?They tried, but they were
unable to tell me how to make the XM online accessible. I'd be curious to
know if you guys get any farther then I did. Have a good one.

RE: xm radio online service

2004-11-06 Thread Wil James
You can click on the buttons that says decades, news, sports, etc. Once
done, you'll see channels for that genre you chose. It is more of a visual
thing, but I had little success with it. I believe I didn't see the entire
channel lineup for the genre I chose, but was friendly enough. I wouldn't
pay $7.95, ($3.95 for subscribers) a month for something I couldn't fully
use. I would have gotten in touch with tech support, but I'd rather pay for
the satellite than the web.

RE: xm radio online service

2004-11-06 Thread BMW
I haven't understood why it doesn't seem to be accessible. Once I click
on the artist, then the category and then the button for the station I
want, it plays fine.

I have found that if I use the up and down arrow along with tabbing, I
can get around just fine.

Now, the flash doesn't work real well. But, if I am curious about a
song that is playing, I click the button for the artist or the station
again and XM shows me what the artist is, the track and the album.

Now, my question is, why, on the weekends, do they play things that are
a week old but go live during the week.

Okay, I don't understand. How can this be dooable? The screen seems to be
extremely crowded with info, a lot of which not pertaining to what one is
listening to, for one thing.
What if I want to find, Deep Tracks, for instance? How do I find that?
What I did to, which seemed to work a little bit, was set jaws to not refresh
flash automaticly, or rather, turn refresh flash off.
But, now the idea here is to be able to scroll through the list of channels,
since you only see a few at a time.

Re: xm radio online service

2004-11-07 Thread Joy Tilton
try www.listen.xmradio.com. There is supposedly a 3 day free trial thingie,
but, due to not reading the darned thing carefully enough, I ended up
subscribing to it. You'll need the flash movie player installed for this thing
to work.
You'll be using your arrow keys a heck of a lot, I will say that.

Where are you going. When I get to the page I click on listen now
sign in

It pulls up the xm radio online player
where all I see mouse over graphics that say play stop volume down volume
up. There's nothing more to choose. Below is what I get.

Okay, I don't understand. How can this be dooable? The screen seems to be
extremely crowded with info, a lot of which not pertaining to what one is
listening to, for one thing.
What if I want to find, Deep Tracks, for instance? How do I find that?
What I did to, which seemed to work a little bit, was set jaws to not
refresh flash automaticly, or rather, turn refresh flash off.
But, now the idea here is to be able to scroll through the list of channels,
since you only see a few at a time.

You can click on the buttons that says decades, news, sports, etc. Once
done, you'll see channels for that genre you chose. It is more of a
visual thing, but I had little success with it. I believe I didn't see
the entire channel lineup for the genre I chose, but was friendly
enough. I wouldn't pay $7.95, ($3.95 for subscribers) a month for
something I couldn't fully use. I would have gotten in touch with tech
support, but I'd rather pay for the satellite than the web.

Kathy,
Yup, I had the same experience a few weeks ago when calling them ... the
only thing they did was to run through the minimum requirements checklist
and to assure that my login worked, duh! I'm wondering if it has something
to do with the fact that they have a flash player, which did not come up--I
guess it is assumed that everybody uses it. For what it's worth, I couldn't
get the Sirius player to work on the free trial either. For the people who
have, results seem to vary. I don't think it's a high priority for them to
get the web service working, they'd rather we all bought their receivers and
had done with it.

Will,
I couldn't see any channel buttons at all, just the player, and they
couldn't figure out why I could not get it to work, no sound whatever
although I could play their test stream. What I don't understand is that I
had no trouble with the samples on their site prior to their use of the web
service, but when I mentioned that their tech could not explain it. Do you
think it is a different player? Maybe somebody can help me explain why
these embedded players or whatever they are called need a flash element for
audio, I thought that flash was primarily for use with video applications to
make them run better. Okay, i'm done, lol.

2004-11-07 Thread Joy Tilton
Which screen reader are you using? If you are using jaws, it sounds like you
have flash movies turned off.
You'll want to go into verbosity settings with insert+v hit the letter f until
you hear "flash movies," or something like that. If it's off, press space bar,
then tab to close.
Once flash movies is turned on, you should get the full player. You'll then
see all the buttons within the player.

He and I have the same configuration there. I do have the movie player
installed but am sometimes seeing illegal operations messages when I go to

Hi Joy,
Yeah! I'm having the same problems! I finally did get a station to play
with a lot of work! Then, I wanted to change stations, and it seemed
virtually impossible! I'm still in my 3 day trial. However, I think I'd
end up doing a lot of trial and error if I bought it. It's too bad. I'd
really like to get it online. Someday, I'll probably just buy the receiver
and all that good stuff. Have a good one.

Hi Kevin,
Well, you have to go online to the link, listen.xmradio.com. Then you have
to register. That's not really a problem. There's a free 3 day trial.
When the 3 day trial expires, you have to pay. I believe it's $7. Anyway,
after that you have to navigate through the buttons with the tab and arrow
keys. I'm still trying to get the hang of it. I'm not at all sure I'm
going to subscribe. I don't think it's very accessible. Plus the fact, I
want to listen to the bluegrass and folk channels. They don't seem to be
available online. Maybe someone else will want to jump in here. Smile!
Have a good one.

2004-11-07 Thread Kathy and Tom
HI Doc,
You have to make sure you have Macro Media Flash turned on. You have to do
that through the Jaws configuration manager. They're still difficult to
manage. Have a good one.

You can click on the buttons that says decades, news, sports, etc. Once
done, you'll see channels for that genre you chose. It is more of a visual
thing, but I had little success with it. I believe I didn't see the entire
channel lineup for the genre I chose, but was friendly enough. I wouldn't
pay $7.95, ($3.95 for subscribers) a month for something I couldn't fully
use. I would have gotten in touch with tech support, but I'd rather pay
for
the satellite than the web.

What if I want to find, Deep Tracks, for instance? How do I find that?
What I did to, which seemed to work a little bit, was set jaws to not
refresh flash automaticly, or rather, turn refresh flash off.
But, now the idea here is to be able to scroll through the list of channels,

Now, the flash doesn't work real well. But, if I am curious about a

Now, my question is, why, on the weekends, do they play things that are

Kathy,
Yup, I had the same experience a few weeks ago when calling them ... the
only thing they did was to run through the minimum requirements checklist
and to assure that my login worked, duh!

I couldn't see any channel buttons at all, just the player, and they
couldn't figure out why I could not get it to work, no sound whatever

had no trouble with the samples on their site prior to their use of the web
service, but when I mentioned that their tech could not explain it. Do you
think it is a different player? Maybe somebody can help me explain why
these embedded players or whatever they are called need a flash element for
audio, I thought that flash was primarily for use with video applications to
make them run better. Okay, i'm done, lol.

He and I have the same configuration there. I do have the movie player

Will,
I couldn't see any channel buttons at all, just the player, and they
couldn't figure out why I could not get it to work, no sound whatever
although I could play their test stream. What I don't understand is that
I
had no trouble with the samples on their site prior to their use of the
web
service, but when I mentioned that their tech could not explain it. Do
you
think it is a different player? Maybe somebody can help me explain why
these embedded players or whatever they are called need a flash element
for
audio, I thought that flash was primarily for use with video applications
to
make them run better. Okay, i'm done, lol.

Kathy,
Yup, I had the same experience a few weeks ago when calling them ... the
only thing they did was to run through the minimum requirements checklist
and to assure that my login worked, duh! I'm wondering if it has
something
to do with the fact that they have a flash player, which did not come
up--I
guess it is assumed that everybody uses it. For what it's worth, I
couldn't
get the Sirius player to work on the free trial either. For the people
who
have, results seem to vary. I don't think it's a high priority for them
to
get the web service working, they'd rather we all bought their receivers
and
had done with it.

Hi Kevin,
Well, you have to go online to the link, listen.xmradio.com. Then you
have
to register.

Hi Doc!
Were you able to make the XM online work? I'm listening to it online
right
now. I really want to hear The Village, and The Bluegrass Junction. Do
you
know if they're available online?

supposedly there is a new receiver out with a built in recorder on it which

will. I think it's a Delphi product. You may hear adverts for it on XM.

Well, the thing that was nice about doing a direct digital recording off the
pcr with this Time Tracks software was that not only did you get the audio,
but, you got the meta-data as well, meaning, it would give you the exact titles
and artist and album info of each song being recorded.

the pcr is not being sold anymore, since pirators had figured out how to
digitally record off that thing.

HI Doc,
I tried clicking on the number and channel but nothing happened. Let's see.
I clicked on Artist name, then category, and then I think the song that was
playing. I think that's right. I had to do some fooling around. Now I'm
afraid to turn the thing off! I'll have to work to find it again. I sure
would like it a lot better if it was designed in a more logical fashion.

Doc,
If I decide to try this again it will be after I get the demo or full

have those options. Sounds like accessibility is limited at best and they
are not likely to do much about that since most users have receivers.

That's really a shame..since I figured that..if I went the XM route..that
that's what I would want since it is cheaper..and would have been easier for
folks like us to read the information; song title and artist! But I guess
that..if I'm ever to have XM Radio, I'll either have to get the version that
plugs into my stereo..or else..try this version that some of you are
trying..which really doesn't sound too accessible to me!

Re: xm radio online service

2004-11-08 Thread Kathy and Tom
Hi Tom,
I'm listening to it now. I think I've finally learned how to move around in
the XM player. It takes some getting to know the screen, but it is doable.
I used my FM transmitter, and transmitted it to my stereo! It sounded
really good! As a matter of fact, I'm listening to XM online as I type this
message. The only thing I'ved noticed is that it cuts in and out. It's not
too bad though. It's worth it just to be able to listen to constant folk
music! Hope this helps.

That's really a shame..since I figured that..if I went the XM route..that
that's what I would want since it is cheaper..and would have been easier
for
folks like us to read the information; song title and artist! But I guess
that..if I'm ever to have XM Radio, I'll either have to get the version
that
plugs into my stereo..or else..try this version that some of you are
trying..which really doesn't sound too accessible to me!

The new XM portable is called Myfi.
They're planning to sell the whole
package including home kit, car kit,
headphones, rechargeable battery, etc.
for $349. I don't know what you'd do if
you just want the receiver. Guess they
prefer to sell it as a whole package
with stuff we don't need. What'd a
blind person need with a car kit anyway
when they don't have a driver in the
household?
Or don't know anyone who drives.

Re: xm radio online service

Well, I'm assuming that a car kit is actually a cassette with a wire hanging
out the back end of it, with an 8th inch jack on the end of the wire. The
general purpose is for hooking the xm radio up to the car's casette player.
However, you can put this thing into any kind of casette player if you want.
For a time, I was using this "car kit" to make one of my double deck boom boxes
become speakers for my computer. Plus, it would allow me to record stuff off
my pc onto cassette. It's good for a boombox which does not have line in jacks
on it.

Re: xm radio online service

2004-11-09 Thread russell Bourgoin
Xmpcr is now a thing of the past, I understand. I've read that the
receivers, no longer made, can be had on e bay for over four hundred
bucks. I'm lucky I got mine, when I did!

"XMonline is: do you get all the channels..entertainment and all? Or do you
just get their music channels?

Yes..and that's a shame..for I'm not sure about this "XMonline; I hate to
think that I'd have to buy a new version of Jaws..just to get XMonline to
work right; maybe someone can give me some ideas as to how to make it
work..even with 3.7u?

Re: xm radio online service

XM does not require a satellite dish. I
don't have one, and am receiving the XM
programming on the home receiver fine.
With the receiver comes an antenna with
a 20-foot-long wire. No satellite dish
required, not even with Sirius, and I
have both home receivers lined up on my
audio desk.

Yes..but isn't there something like a real small antenna involved; it's not
that large..as I understand it?

The antennas are small, yes, not a dish;
I have both of them in my window. I
have the boombox receiver in my bedroom
and an antenna in the bedroom window.
Both windows face the same direction. I
don't know if they are south windows,
but I do know that the signal is being
received properly, and oh, yes, the
screens are plastic. Metal screens
would interfere.
