winamp? problem?

2013-12-16 Thread Curtis Delzer
Hi all Whenever I change files quickly in winamp pro, mine, eventually
hands up displaying some kind of "file info" box. How do I make it stop
this and nimbly go between files as it use too?

Re: Another Discovery Concerning My Winamp Problem

Not sure what may be causing your Winamp problems. If you don't mind
loosing your custom settings, you might delete the winamp.ini file and
see if things get back to normal.

I am using the exact same setup and have no problems with winamp.

Have you checked the winamp preferences?

Are you using the classic skin?

Have you installed some unusual plug in?

Tom, have you ever just edited the bookmarks file? That's how I've been
doing it. The file is called winamp.bm and is located in different
places

depending upon your version of windows. You can find it with the
windows

find function. I edit it with notepad.

In the file, each bookmark has two lines--really strings of characters
because the whole string sometimes doesn't fit on a notepad line. The
first string is the address (URL) of the bookmark; and the second is its
name.

ALWAYS make a backup of the file before you tamper with it.

When I have a file playing that is silent, I use the "Jump" control (ctrl+j)

RE: Another winamp problem

2012-07-10 Thread Dave McElroy WA6BEF
Well, thanks for the command but files still are silent. Could something
have gotten muted in winamp? Or could something be waiting for a play
button? Files play when I go back to Creative.

Thanks.

You probably have already thought of this, but alt-V (in Winamp) turns on
the video and turns it off (it's like a toggle) like I said, you probably

Re: Another winamp problem

2012-07-10 Thread JM Casey
Ctrl-f4 should close the video window. alternatively, hit ctrl-tab until it
just says winamp, go to your "winamp subwindow"< and hit enter when it says
"video" to uncheck the window. You'll find that the playlist, equaliser,
media library and so on all behave in the same way.

Winamp Problem Resolved!

2012-07-05 Thread Tom Kaufman
Hello list: I am happy to report that I have solved my Winamp problem! I must
confess that the idea came to me while listening to a Philmore message a friend
sent me (she mentioned something about possibly checking to make sure of which
sound device was playing my sounds) so with this in mind, I went to the control
panel; then into Sounds And Audio (at least I think that's what it's called)
long story short: I was able to determine that Total Recorder somehow had
become the device that was playing audio! I then changed that to my sound card
(Audigy 2) and presto! It's all working good now! No more static at low
volume and no more of that "God-Awful" sound when I fast forward through a
file! Thanks for listening and for your patience!

Re: More On My Winamp Problem

2012-07-02 Thread Tom Kaufman
Macc and list: Thank you for your response; I was probably in too big of a
hurry to get the computer back up! Plus, I thought that the electricity
problems were going to be "short-lived!" I didn't realize what kind of
weather we were having at the time! I did get Winamp re-installed, but now
have another problem in that, if I advance a file by using my arrow keys, if
I go too fast, I get a horrible sound; the sound is such that closing Winamp
won't stop it; the only way to get rid of it is to restart the computer!
Also, if I'm running Winamp at low volume, I can hear a low "hissing" sound!
I know there's something in "preferences" that should fix this! However I
know not where to go to fix it!

Tom,

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Win Ammp? That has helped
me, in the past. If you are having anymore electricity problems, well,
maybe you would want to wait until they subside, but, give the
uninstall/reinstall procedure a try. Of course, you may have to go back
through whatever preferences you have set up, I think, but, don't quote me
on that part !

Hello list: Late last night I posted a query on Winamp; so far I have
gotten no responses! I can't believe that no one on this list doesn't
know about how to fix this! Be that as it may, I'll explain this again:
last night, our lights flickered while I was rebooting the computer. I
later found afterwards that, whenever I try to bring up the Winamp player,
I get an error message! I tried restarting the computer..no soap! I also
ran "check disk" a while ago; nothing doing! Can anyone on here tell me
what I need to do to get Winamp to once again work? If updating my Winamp
will do the trick, I'm willing to do that; I just need to know if it's
still as accessible as it has been in the past! Thank you!

still getting error message! Next, I'll uninstall; then try this again!

How about uninstall it and install it again. Hope you have the version
you are using. New winamp works well with jaws 13 if you are using it.

Subject: More On My Winamp Problem

Thank you!

Winamp Problem

2012-06-29 Thread Tom Kaufman
Hello list: I am experiencing a problem when I try to launch Winamp: it
presents me with an '"error" message; you know, one of those "send/don't send"
things! I don't know if something has become corrupted or not; we had a storm
go through here a while ago; the lights flickered and the computer shut down!
Well then about five minutes later, I booted back up, thinking that the storm
was mostly over with! But just as it was getting to the desk top, the lights
flickered again! So my question is: how do I get my Winamp working again and
not get this "don't send" error message?

This is probably a simple step I'm missing.

When I open a file, the program opens but the file does not. The last
file
I'd played is apparently highlighted cause if I use the play command
that's
  what I get.

Something I checked or didn't in preferences?

Must have had the problem before having had my stroke last year cause
recently Creative media was my preference and can't imagine doing that.
Trying to relearn all this stuff is hard. Lol. I'm also typing with one

Try the following:
Inside winamp, hit control +p for preferences and use your arrow keys to
find the general category. Once there, tab until you reach a checkbox that

This should solve the problem.

Winamp problem

2011-04-04 Thread Donald L. Roberts
On this 64-bit Windows 7 system, I am running Winamp with a version
number I think of 5.58. I am struggling with a weird problem whose
source I hope someone on this list can pinpoint. I have used the
uparrow to put the winamp volume to the max and have increased the sound
card speaker volume to maximum. Yet the volume level on all mp3 files
is substantially lower than it is using Windows media player. For what
it's worth, the volume from my screen reader, Window-eyes 7.5, is
appreciably louder than that from any mp3 file played in Winamp. Ideas
and solutions, please.

Re: strange winamp problem

2009-11-29 Thread Robert Logue
Bring up preferences with control+p. Then arrow down to output plugins.
Tab to the configure button and press spacebar. It will depend on which
output plug-in is selected but there may be several tabs in the dialog.
Look at them all. I am doing this from memory so don't have more exact
instructions. If you don't find a fix, try changing the output plug-in.

I am running winanp5552 with jaws and windows xp and for some reason if I
select several songs to play as soon as the second song starts, the audio
shifts almost completely to the right side. The sound returns to normal if
I stop and restart the song but have to do that every time a new song
starts.

This does not happen in windows media player.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: concerning winamp problem

2009-11-16 Thread DJ DOCTOR P

High Jed,
What version of Winamp are you using?
What is your operating system?
I'm asking because that could be apart of your problem.
Are you using a screen reader?
If so, what is the name of it, and what version is it?These many things
could be giving you trouble with playing files in Winamp.

My best regards.

I then tried to click on another mp3, and it showed up in the title bar,

wouldn't play it.
This is kind ofwierd, but anyone else had this issue?

At this point you're probably better off installing Winamp from scratch and
carefully following Jaws help files info to avoid any hassles. I often find
starting from scratch is better than spending countless hours trying to fix
something a 10 minute reinstall can easily fix.

It's any file, except wma. I have those go to WMP. I primarily use mp3,
.0gg or .avi files.

It isn't a JAWS problem as the FS tech support person and I tried going to
default scripts and no dice.

We tried messing with display settings in Windows with no results.

What type of file are you attempting to play? WMA files will not play and
will result in this type of behavior in winamp. Try the keyboard commands
with MP3 files. Try reading these various file types that don't play
using another version of jaws--if you have it on your computer.

Hi all,
I have this funny problem:
normally I can select winamp for playing my cds in the auto play of windows
explorer.
now this thing intirely has gone away from the list. here are the following
items:
play with windows media player, all the copy and convert things from nero
and open folder... and off course do nothing.

What can I do to get winamp back in this list as an option?
I have uninstalled and reinstalled winamp. it didn't help.
I really hope for a solution as I prefer winamp as my cd playing
application.

Thanks in advance.

Winamp problem playing streams:

2008-11-17 Thread Don Breda
Well in my almost 30 years of using a computer and providing tech
support etc. I have't seen this one.

Installed winamp 541 on a friends Dell computer.

I also installed the ACB radio tuner.

Winamp will not play a stream.

If I use the ACB radio tuner it brings up winamp and says winamp
unavailable.

If I use a playlist to choose radio stations I know work they still
don't play.

I will have to check this again to se what actually happens in the
second case.

Winamp will play an mp3 sitting on the hard drive just fine.

Internet connection is fine.

Is this a conflict between winamp and windows media player possibly or
nero show time or some other application like that?

Running XP Pro.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Re: winamp problem

2008-01-24 Thread Curtis Delzer
Only if you're running JFW will control-alt-k work. If not, you'll have to
do it another way. You can, use your ears to set it in the winamp equalizer,
using the right or left arrows to get it in the center. There is another
way, but don't remember exactly which parameter you need to change in
winamp.ini, someone else knows that, but you can get very close using your
ears and headphones. Make sure the equalizer is open before you try it or
you'll be frustrated, and make sure you're pointed at it also, meaning that
you've hit control-tab until you hear "winamp equalizer." Then do it, using
the arrow opposite to the direction you believe it to be skewed.

Re: Annoying Winamp Problem

2007-10-20 Thread Hope
Hello, Samuel,
I'm not certain that this will sort out your problems, however, there is a
possibility that Winamp was accidentally made to pan more to the right side
of your speakers. If you happened to be in the Winamp equalizer window at
any point while playing a file and pressed your right arrow by mistake,
intending to possibly skip through the file, it could have panned to the
right, as that is what is executed when in that particular window.
I do hope this was helpful, as I've experienced that panning issue myself a
time or two.

Annoying Winamp Problem

2007-10-20 Thread Samuel Wilkins
Hello, I have a problem with Winamp. This happened with Winamp 5.35 and I tried
upgrading to 5.50 and restarting my computer but the problem still persists.
When I start it up, I can hear my Window Eyes in the centre of my speakers but
the file that Winamp is playing is on the half right side of the speakers. I
tried playing files in Goldwave, but Goldwave is fine. Is there a way to sort
this out?

oh this one. Make sure you are in the main Winamp window and not in
the equalizer.
if you press control tab you can find out what window you're in. make
sure the main window is open and then try it again.

Winamp problem

2006-10-22 Thread Morey Worthington
Hello all,
Using Winamp 5.13.
When a person sends me a sound file, be it .wav, or mp3, when I open up the
attachment Winamp tries to open it, but I then get a error message about
Winamp wanting to send in a malfunction report to its leaders.
I sent it in once.

I then went back to the message , opened the attachment, saved it to a
folder in My Documents,, went there and clicked on it and Winamp opened it
just fine.
Any thoughts on why opening it while in E-Mail message will not work?
Thanks,
Morey

Hi, I have a problem with Winamp 5.13. I start winamp and it says new winamp

up saying, Winamp has encountered an error and needs to close. I tried running

2005-10-12 Thread Chris Skarstad
hi. The streams probably wouldn't work, but who knows?
On my system, the 5.09 versions caused nothing but trouble. 5.1 works
fine, but for most things I use 5.08E because that seems to be the most
stable version.
and as I said before, WQXR is not, in any way at all, affiliated with xm,
or aol. So logic would suggest that that station isn't even effected by
this. it's really not on our end, it's an aol thing.

Susan,

Yes; the section of the library that contained the AOL with XM streams was
introduced with 5.1. Interestingly, though, the URL I found for WQXR works
in version 5.092 (to which I've now downgraded), as well. I suspect that if
we could identify the URLs for other XM streams (without having to use that
now disappeared section of Winamp's library) they would work, too. If
anybody knows any such URLs, I'd love to try the experiment.

Dana,
Thanks for letting me know the short URL works, smile, maybe i'll play with
that. i'm still running Winamp 5.09 so maybe the references to XM and AOL
content are new to the latest version, nothing like taking three days to
figure that out. If I do find these stations in the library and get them to
work it'll be great, but otherwise i'm not sure it is worth the upgrade.
other than the focus issues in the library window that you mentioned, have
you seen any other problems with the latest version? Seems to me I'd heard
of some but maybe wasn't paying close enough attention. As with anything
Winamp or even audio, mileage seems to vary. i may upgrade eventually but
not today--definitely too much else to do and low frustration tolerance.

There is a www.wqxr.com
But, when you try to get to their stream from there, the link takes you to
the sign up for AOL. I figured it was much easier to go through Winamp,
since I found it there. And it's still working that way, even though I can
no longer find the AOL with XM section of the Winamp library.

BTW, I just experimented and found that, in the terribly long and ugly URL I
gave you, everything after the question mark can be deleted, and it will
still work.

But they *were* there when I first installed 5.1; that's how I found the URL
for WQXR. and that's why it's so weird that they've subsequently
disappeared, unless, as I suggested, they were, in fact, only there as a
trial offer, so to speak.

In any case, and what's even weirder, now, I can't even find the main
treeview in the library. And, it's NOT the JAWS focus issue. Sighted friends
have confirmed that it's just not there, any longer.

I've tried re-installing 5.1 over the current installation. but that didn't
change anything. Since I hardly ever use the Library, except for editing and
rearranging bookmarks, and thanks to Chris I now know how to do that by
editing winamp.bm, I'm seriously considering uninstalling 5.1, and
downgrading to 5.092. Any thought before I do?

Re: winamp problem

2005-10-12 Thread Susan Wojtecki
Dana,
Thanks for letting me know the short URL works, smile, maybe i'll play with
that. i'm still running Winamp 5.09 so maybe the references to XM and AOL
content are new to the latest version, nothing like taking three days to
figure that out.

Susan

There is a www.wqxr.com
But, when you try to get to their stream from there, the link takes you to
the sign up for AOL. I figured it was much easier to go through Winamp,
since I found it there. And it's still working that way, even though I can
no longer find the AOL with XM section of the Winamp library.

BTW, I just experimented and found that, in the terribly long and ugly URL I
gave you, everything after the question mark can be deleted, and it will
still work.

2005-10-11 Thread Tyler Wood
Its ok...i mean your welcome lol.

Keep in mind if you live in the U.S, that you'll want to go to .com instead
of .ca, as it makes a difference (i went to .com, and it told me that I
needed to be in the canadian one.)
Also, you need to create an acount. Yahoo tech support is *horrible* and
they say, "we'll call" but they call 10 days later. I finally gave up and
got my friend to do it for me.

best,
Tyler

PS: for some stations you need that particular acount.

Re: winamp problem

2005-10-10 Thread Dana S. Leslie
Now *I* am having some sort of serious problem with Winamp's library.
Before, I could scroll up and down the treeview. It was just when I
highlighted AOL/XM that I couldn't find any entries. But, now (since this
morning), I don't even have any treeview to scroll up and down. It just
ain't there! A sighted friend check and confirmed; it's just missing!

I think that maybe I need to uninstall Winamp entirely, and re-install it.
But I'm rather reluctant to do that; I just got the pacemaker plugin and all
my streams working just the way I want, and I don't want to have to start
all over again.

Isn't the Winamp library, itself, created by some sort of plugin? Is there a
way I could uninstall and re-install just the library?

any advice will be appreciated.

Dana

Actually, I just took another look at the AOL WITH XM section in Winamp's
library, and, as Tyler originally report, I can't find any genres, or
streams in any of the boxes. They were certainly there a couple of months
ago, right after 5.1 came out. I wonder if Nullsoft and AOHell are having
some sort of contractual dispute? In any case, the stream to WQXR that I
originally found through the AOL with XM section of the Winamp library is
still working and still plays within Winamp.

2005-10-10 Thread Tyler Wood
Yes, that is interesting, seeing as, I think anyway, you use winamp,
therefore you should be able to access the stations free of charge, or at
least some stations, like on real player; you could get a free station for
each listing of type of music, I know its called something but I can't spell
the name...jonera?

Actually, I just took another look at the AOL WITH XM section in Winamp's
library, and, as Tyler originally report, I can't find any genres, or
streams in any of the boxes. They were certainly there a couple of months
ago, right after 5.1 came out. I wonder if Nullsoft and AOHell are having
some sort of contractual dispute? In any case, the stream to WQXR that I
originally found through the AOL with XM section of the Winamp library is
still working and still plays within Winamp.

I like AOL as an ISP because it offers all kinds of features from the main
page, but because of this, it is rather complicated and many people don't want
that. I can understand many ways of looking at any of this, and we all work
with what we want and then what we can afford. Too bad there are no good
freebies
along these lines. Smile.

But they seem to be using AOL's facilities to carry their stream, somehow.
As I said, I originally found their stream by searching the AOL with XM
section of Winamp's library, and, when you go to www.wqxr.com and follow the
links to their stream, you're taken to a sign up page for AOL.

There is a www.wqxr.com
But, when you try to get to their stream from there, the link takes you to
the sign up for AOL. I figured it was much easier to go through Winamp,
since I found it there. And it's still working that way, even though I can
no longer find the AOL with XM section of the Winamp library.

BTW, I just experimented and found that, in the terribly long and ugly URL I
gave you, everything after the question mark can be deleted, and it will
still work.

Gail,
You're probably right. I haven't heard enough good things about AOL to
convince me that it's worth the headache, so probably won't try too hard to
figure a way to access this content. As i said in my previous post, I
certainly don't want AOL taking over my email and other internet activity
and am not confident that I could just use the player with these streams
without being hijacked, if you know what I mean. Anyway, while I like the
XM content I've heard, i'm not sure it is so vastly superior to Shoutcast
radio or ACBradio to warrant paying for it. It's not just that i'm a
cheapskate--well, maybe, smile, but I ran into all kinds of buffering
problems more often than not whenever I tried to switch stations, very
frustrating when you are paying for the content and can't always rely on
getting it. Obviously the optimum solution is to buy a receiver which is
obviously what they want us all to do, but this is not within my budget and
of course means that there is a loss of accessibility if the programmers
choose not to identify what they are playing. i don't want much I know,
lol.

Re: winamp problem

2005-10-10 Thread Susan Wojtecki
Dana,
Hmm, I didn't know that WQXR was one of the XM choices. Maybe i'll try to
find that, though i'm still not real good at pasting in URL's to the Winamp
address bar or whatever it's called. For this station maybe I'll just stick
to the regular radio, lol. Of course, maybe there's a variant of
www.wqxr.com, but no, that's probably too simple, right? nothing like a
little wishful thinking.

Thanks for your response. I'm still not sure I understand whether this XM
or AOL content is free or not and under what conditions. it's frustrating
to have to register for things before you know what you are agreeing to, and
then of course there's the chance it won't work. Oh well, no such thing as
a free radio station or something, lol.

Re: winamp problem

2005-10-10 Thread Dana S. Leslie
Susan,

Well, I don't fully understand it, either. but, when Winamp 5.1 was
released, a couple of months ago, there was a new subsection in the Online
Streams section of the Library, where you could find AOL with XM streams. I
found a stream in there for WQXR, the New York Times' classical music
station. I bookmarked it, and I was able to copy the URL from the edit
bookmarks dialogue to my web page. The stream still plays fine, whether I
use the bookmark or the link I created on my web page. but, apparently,
several of us, at least, can no longer find this section of the Winamp
library. Actually, just at the moment, I'm having trouble navigating the
library, at all. Ever since 5.1 was introduce, JAWS would continually lose
focus as one tabbed away from the main treeview in the library, and then
tried to get back to it. One would have to use the JAWS cursor to find the
items on the treevew, then click on them and route pc to JAWS. Bt, just
since this morning, I can't even find the treeview. something is VERY
screwed up! I'll have to get a sighted person to take a look, tomorrow.

If you're interested, here is the URL I found for WQXR, it's very long and
very ugly, and you have to get it all into Winamp's location bar, until you
bookmark it. But I still have no idea how the URL is structured, or how it
might help you to infer the URLs of other Xm streams that will play in
Winamp:
uvox://64.236.34.107:5190/stream/13270?auth_token=r%3D2113823%26sid%3D12770%26expires%3D1126760580065%26csum%3D2cd01f29f7b603749d5c100cdf2f2429&uid=WA-287F2030C25141DC83537812639D1992&sessid=29D12D3CCEFB4A27A0B2D4ED5D8FFB58

Susan:
All I can tell you is that I have Aol as an ISP and they have some X-M
stations on their radio feature. It sounds to me like for a time it worked on
Winamp
but now it doesn't. I'd be surprised if they're giving it away free to Winamp
customers, but stranger things have happened.

Re: winamp problem

2005-10-10 Thread Susan Wojtecki
Gail and Dana,
i'm a little confused as to the relationship between the XM stations and AOL
and the player through which they are accessed. i mean, I was under the
impression that those with an XM account could only play the streams through
Windows Media. i had an account but canceled it since I found I had long
buffering times on many occasions and sometimes couldn't seem to access
streams at all, though maybe I didn't try long or hard enough to solve this
problem. Bottom line was that I couldn't see paying for a service I wasn't
able to access.

However, after they did this deal with AOL this summer, I tried to find out
how it worked but couldn't get definitive information. i assume that they
want you to download an AOL player which you pay for? Does this mean that
AOL takes over your ISP? I have good cable service and this is not
something I'd want to have happen. Dana, are you saying that there is a way
to use Winamp as the player of choice listeningh to these streams? That
would seem to be ideal for me since I think the buffering problems I had are
somehow related to WMP 10 though am not completely certain. Would
appreciate if you or other good folks could clarify, lol, i'm definitely
confused.

Re: winamp problem

2005-10-09 Thread Dana S. Leslie
Now that I think about it, I have a vague recollection of someone's telling
me that the XM feature was a *paid* feature. I thought they were wrong,
because I had it, and certainly hadn't paid for it. But, perhaps, I had it
only on a 30-day trial, or something like that. If it's been more than 30
days or so since any of us who can't find XM installed 5.1, perhaps that's
the answer.

Actually, Dana, it wouldn't surprise me, but if they are, AOL isn't saying
anything about it at the moment. If they do, I'll let you guys know.
