In fact, I get the flashing Av-- whether the mode is set to P, Tv, Av, M or B. Any help out there? Have you got the custom function set to allow shutter release with the lens off A? It sounds to me like a solution to a problem that shouldn't exist anyway. In other words, a kludge. The camera came with a kludge way of using non A lenses. Missing Clear Plastic Piece on Pentax FA Lens
If the clear plastic piece that covers the numbers on a Pentax FA lens is missing, is that an indication that it was probably dropped hard enough that it might be optically compromised, or do those clear plastic pieces sometimes fall off on their own? Or...? Should I be concerned about a Pentax FA lens that is missing that piece? Thanks, Greg
Some *istD questions
I know that the *istD has a raw file option. Does the PhotoShop CS (PS8) RAW converter support the Pentax files? I assume Pentax has a RAW converter. Does it offer different file size options? Is the Pentax sensor a CMOS or a CCD? I'm sure all these topics have been covered here, but I wasn't interested until the K lens compatibility came along.
RE: Missing Clear Plastic Piece on Pentax FA Lens
That piece of plastic (so to the FA* lenses' metal frame) is held by a piece of high strength double-sided tape. It can peel itself off sometimes, although rare for non-FA* lenses. If the lens itself is free from any dent, it should be safe. CS doesn't support PEF format. they are rumored to be supporting in an update. RAW is fixed in size and the converter is also fixed in size. you can't alter the image dimensions from RAW until it is in an image editing program. Hi Paul ... I think it was drizzling a bit, but the heavy rain had stopped for a while. No permission ... sometimes y'just gotta grab the shot. I got of three shots with the Sony, one of her pulling the paper from the box, and one when she was much closer to me. This was the best of the three. I did a bit of cropping as there was no time to crop in the camera. Mostly I just trimmed some of the space around the newspaper boxes and a little off the top. BTW, thanks for the car photo tips. Re: Is there an analog only Pentax list?
There are a number of highly regarded lenses out there at reasonable prices, especially if you don't need fast glass. I have a kit of a K 28/3.5, K 35/3.5 (almost flare proof), M 50/1.4, M 100/4.0 macro, M 135/3.5, M 200/4.0, and an FA 300/4.5 (another legendary lens, very sharp). Bodies are a K 1000 and a Z-1p. Everything listed cost me less then $1000, actually between $800-$900 IIRC. KEH has a very good reputation on the list as does BH. If you can find one, the K30/2.8 is a great compromise between size and weight and aperture, and, IMO, a better lens all around than the K35/2.0 ... since I've gotten the 30mm I rarely use the 28 or either of the 35's. I had read somewhere that the K 35/2 was one of the best of the 35's and that the M wasn't as good. I've never seen one so I don't know the size/weight difference. Not sure if I'd like the 30/2.8 as I don't really like 28's and I'd like something faster and less rare. The K24/2.8 is another fine lens, although methinks it's a bit wide for good street photography, but I guess that depends on your definition of the practice and your shooting style. I had a 28mm 3.5 and just didn't really like it very much. Not the lens quality so much as the perspective, sorta too wide or not wide enough. Total personal preference. So I thought the 24 might be more fun. I was just flipping through some photos I'd cut from the paper, sort of documentary style stuff and many of them were pretty wide angle. Also might be nice for indoor stuff like churches etc while traveling. I'm going to keep my eye out for the 85 1.8. Thanks for all the info. Rob
OT: Back from Wellington
Hi all, I spent the past week in windy Wellington... I went up to see the final LoTR movie at the Embassy Theatre, and my partner went to accompany me to the film and do some research at the National Archives. There was quite a bit of LoTR stuff in Wellington. A few large models had been hung on buildings, and there were some good displays at the airport. I was rather surprised by how much you can spend on merchandise if you were that way inclined. The Embassy is beautiful - and they replaced all the seats at last. I took a Pentax but since I haven't finished the film yet you'll have to wait for most of the pictures. I ended up taking the K2 with 43mm Limited and 100mm macro lenses. I didn't use them much as the weather was pretty bad most of the time. However, I did take some pics with my Palm's built-in digital camera. There's not much to see but you might find them interesting. http://www.digistar.com/~dmann/temp/welly/ I also did a bit of shopping; there should be some more news about that later in the week. Put some beer in the fridge, Cotty ;) Enjoy! Cheers, - Dave http://www.digistar.com/~dmann/
