If you look at the pixels with something that shows you the RGB values you'll see that the perceived circular arcs are places where one of the components (most often the red channel) changes. Unfortunately the human eye is exceptionally good at spotting subtle changes like this, correlating them, and presenting them to your visual cortex with the edges contrast-enhanced. These kinds of artifacts are far more common in digital image synthesis - it's rare for a captured real-world image to have large, smoothly varying areas of approximately the same colour. Re: OT: Panasonic L1
I found that my local camera store (McBain Camera) is ordering the last 23 Panasonic L1 camera/lens kits available in Canada, and is selling them for $800. I'm picking one up when they arrive. I tried one out in-store today, and really liked how it felt in my hands. The lens was a little large for my liking, but I'll get used to it. Not as large as I thought it might be. I'm also used to the DA Limited lenses, which make any other lens seem obese by comparison - even my FA 20-35 f/4! Thanks for the advice, everyone. Re: smc PENTAX-DA 17-70mmF4AL[IF] SDM
The masses? probably not, they'll be set with the 18-55 and 50-200. But they'll likely not buy Pentax right now since Pentax lacks a competitive sub-$1K camera. Semi-serious photogs? certainly. It's a longer-range replacement for the well-liked 16-45/4. Nikon's similar range 18-70 and 16-85VR are also very popular, as is Canon's 17-85IS. This will be the main option for Pentax users upgrading from the 18-55. I could also see Pentax using it as the kit with the K20D and later mid/high range bodies. -Adam On Wed, Jun 4, 2008 at 7:40 PM, Cory Waters <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Wow Bob... Oooops, It was just a joke. Dave answered with a 'yawn' to an entry about a new Pentax glass, and I just wanted to connect with my thread last week about the list focus swift. That's all. (and, at the end, the yawn was more about the range of zoom presented, rather than about being an equipment subject). I am sure that this GFM event is well worth it, as you say some of you are crossing the ocean in order to attend. In my case, well, nature photography is not one of my primary interest and I would find hard to justify to me and to my family such a trip. I've been only once in the US and it was for 4 months !! If I mentioned it is because there has been a lot of threads about it recently and because it is a good example of a non Pentax related topic, as opposed to the lens one. Probably one has to be better known in order to be successful with irony... ;-) Regards, Jaume - Mensaje original De: AlunFoto <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Para: Pentax-Discuss Mail List Enviado: miércoles, 4 de junio, 2008 22:25:47 Asunto: Re: smc PENTAX-DA 17-70mmF4AL[IF] SDM What Bob said about the GFM week-end. You can publish any photo taken in a publish place, illegal act or otherwise. No release required. You can't use a photo to promote a service or product without a release. That doesn't mean someone can't try to sue you for publishing a news photo, at least here in the U.S. But for the most part, anything that happens in public is fair game. I think the achilles heel of the FA 28-70/4 was actually the quality of the cement used to glue the elements together, rather than the elements themselves. Asahi does translate as "Morning Sun" but it is a river, at one time I had heard that water taken from that river could be used to develop B&W film with no additional chemicals, however either that wasn't true or water quality has improved considerably since the 1950s. I recommend that you find a class locally that will teach you the basics. It will be much easier in 2 or 3 hands-on sessions than by reading through all these replies. Another possibility would be to borrow a book from your local library and work your way through some of the exercises. If you can borrow an incident light meter you will find it much easier to understand about exposure, and it will give you a baseline against which to compare the way your camera's light reading works (or not, depending on the situation). Axel, I found a picasa album of yours. I liked the picture of feeding the ducks the best. You have some other nice ones as well. The pix of the lane divider in the pool is too blurry for me. Sounds fun, don't it? Doesn't sound like fun to me at all. Sounds like a huge waste of time. And illegal to boot. Note this quote from the Mac OS X v10.5 End User Software License Agreement, (Source: "Welcome to Leopard.app" distributed with the Mac OS X "Leopard" installation DVD.) --- " 2. Permitted License Uses and Restrictions. A. Single Use. This License allows you to install, use and run one (1) copy of the Apple Software on a single Apple-labeled computer at a time. You agree not to install, use or run the Apple Software on any non-Apple-labeled computer, or to enable others to do so. This License does not allow the Apple Software to exist on more than one computer at a time, and you may not make the Apple Software available over a network where it could be used by multiple computers at the same time. None, unless you buy from some under the table third party sources. Apple does not sell outdated versions of their operating system products on the retail market. Besides, all versions of Mac OS X since v10.4.6 have been Universal Binary ... executables provided for either PowerPC or Intel hardware. I probably have an unopened NFR copy of Mac OS X v10.3 or v10.4 (PowerPC only) somewhere around here that I could give you if you wanted. But it most likely will not work anyway, not without a lot of work. As I said, a huge waste of time. And illegal. Re: OT - mac osx licensing
First off, it's not a good idea performance-wise. There isn't a PowerPC emulator with anything approaching decent performance, even on a fast PC you're going to be looking at performance similar to a PPC604e at best. You might be able to get a usable OS9 boot, but OS X is gonna suck massively on any PPC emulator. Secondly, you can't get a legal version of OS X for that use. The license agreement specifically restricts you to using it on Apple system. If I was looking to do a light use OS X box on the ultra-cheap, I'd look for an old B&W G3, stuff it full of PC100 SDRAM and run it headless via VNC with OS X 10.3.9 (which in fact I do). -Adam On Wed, Jun 4, 2008 at 1:41 PM, Scott Loveless <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Gots another questions for the Mac crowd. > > In the very near future I'm going to attempt to run OSX via a PowerPC > emulator on a PC with Linux. Jaume, Lighten up and chill out! Grandfather Mountain is a very cheap, high quality, 3 day photo seminar. Cost was $115 this year, with no hotel costs if you camped out. Compare this to other photo seminars you see in magazines. These are the same presenters who run their own 3-5 day seminars at $500 each. It's also a good social activity that helps keep this list out of flame wars. Why don't you sign up for next year and see for yourself. Regards, Bob S. Gots another questions for the Mac crowd. In the very near future I'm going to attempt to run OSX via a PowerPC emulator on a PC with Linux. Sounds fun, don't it?
