I think LR changed the way flagging works back to how it was

2012-12-25 Thread Larry Colen
LR recently changed the behavior of flagging so that rather than flagging being
local to a collection, it followed the photo everyplace, so a photo couldn't be
tagged in one collection and untagged in another.

Now, it's weird. I Tagged a bunch of photos, published them to facebook,
untagged some of them. And when I went to the collection, all of the photos
were still tagged. But when I untagged one in one collection, it untagged the
same photo in another collection.

I'm puzzled, the behavior is not oddly inconsistent.

Yes, there are spf records on heime.org and I have recently added

solution.

Re: Gmail

2012-12-25 Thread Igor Roshchin

Stig:

I do not see all the headers of you e-mail message, as I am subscribed
to the digest version, so I cannot tell what's causing the problem.
(Feel free to send me a message directly, off the list, - I can
tell at it.)

If your message is sent not from the shell of your server (gandi1),
and not from 69.167.142.98, which is cloud3.emwd.com),
but rather, say, you are sending it from an imap3 mail-client (such as
Thunderbird) from your home computer, - that would be sent
from a different IP, that is not included in your spf records.
Since your spf records have "-all", - that is a command to cause a
failure for delivery.
If you are using e-mail clients rather than the server itself, - I'd
recommend ?all (or maybe ~all).

Mailing list servers should not be obfuscating the sender's IP, etc.

Re: OT: Bought my first guitar (Old dog, new tricks?)

2012-12-25 Thread John Sessoms

From: dglenn

John Sessoms wrote:

I'm not sure how many guitars I have. Too
many probably.

"Too many guitars"? I know what all of those words mean separately,
but not in that order.

I thought I had 17, but during a recent inventory update I could only
find 16 and I couldn't identify which one was "missing". I didn't know
if something happened to one of them or if I just had the wrong number
in my head.

Turned out there wasn't anything on my old inventory list missing once I
was able to remember where I put it. Actually, my mom found the
inventory list I left with her when she was keeping my guitars while I
was in Iraq. I don't remember having bought any guitars since I got
home, so that inventory should be valid.

Either way, if you lose count, that's a pretty good indicator of "too
many".

Plus, having so many guitars means most of them don't get played as much
as they should be. Guitars are meant to be played. It's not good for
them to just sit in the case. I try to keep at least one electric & one
acoustic out all the time, and rotate through them without playing
favorites. I keep 'em out for about a month before putting them away and
bringing out the next set.

And I guess that brings us to the question of whether anyone "needs"
that many guitars. I'd say the answer is no. No one *needs* that many
guitars.

But I wanted them, and I could pay for them, so I bought them. Every
guitar I bought I bought because I enjoyed playing it and I bought it so
I could continue to enjoy playing it.

Wait a minute. Are you saying the button on the side of the

Tilt, rather than swivel.

I should also apologize, it seems the I had a total brainfart and for
some reason was remembering the button on the side as being necessary
to release the head for any tilt. I.e. I thought it needed to be
pressed to unlock it no matter what position it was in. This middle
age is getting bad. CRS is bad enough, becoming delusional is
annoying.

Good. That's what mine does. You have to push that button to tilt down,
but not for up. Swivel is just a detent.

I had to send mine back to Pentax when I first got it because it was
locked in manual zoom. After they sent it back, I dropped it and broke
the red plastic cover. I just ordered the part from Pentax and fixed it
myself. They wanted me to send it back, but I told them no.

Apparently the lens that goes into that small hole is a separate part,
because they didn't send that. I probably should contact them again and
buy that part as well.

I have experienced the problem others have reported with it going back
into default PTTL mode whenever it goes to sleep. I tried the suggestion
that was supposed to keep it from going into sleep, but that has only
been partially effective.

OT: A recommendation

2012-12-25 Thread John Sessoms
I went to see 4 movies this year. That's how many I cared enough about
to go see on the big screen.

But I ran across one earlier this month that piqued my interest & since
it was on screen at the local "dollar" theater I went to see it. The
recent thread about guitars tells me there are a lot of people on the
list with an interest in music, so I'll recommend it here.

I hope if you do decide to see it, you enjoy it as much as I did.

Re: 3 PESO's - Vintage Radio

2012-12-25 Thread Paul Sorenson
Most table model radios of that vintage had a coiled loop antenna
mounted on the fiberboard back of the radio. If one end of that coil is
no longer connected to the radio, reception would be poor. Or...most of
those radios had poor sensitivity and the orientation of that loop
antenna made a lot of difference in the reception. Try rotating the
radio left and right to see if you get a better signal.

When I was a kid back in the early 60s (gads, that makes me feel old),
there was a store in town called ACME Novelty. Of course, in my 6 year
old mind, it had to be part of the ACME Corporation. I bugged my parents
for months, to no avail, that I had to be taken to that store to see the
wonders that surely must be on the shelves.
Certainly, there would be 10,000 pound weights, and cases of dynamite,
rocket powered roller skates, all the things that the Coyote bought
could surely be had at ACME Novelty.
Finally, one Saturday my parents relented, even though they knew, deep
in their great big hearts, that they were setting me up for what would
surely be the greatest disappointment of my childhood.
And sure enough, when we walked into that great big department store,
and walked past aisles filled with slightly out of fashion woman's
clothing, cheap suits, inexpensive furniture and housewares, I was ever
hopeful that if we went around just one more corner and into one more
aisle, we would come to the section of the store that catered to Wiley
Coyote.
But it was not to be, for ACME Novelty was not really part of the ACME
Corporation, or at least not part of the ACME Corporation that I was
familiar with from spending hours watching the Roadrunner outwit his
hapless nemesis.
Friends, I was inconsolable. I led my parents through that entire store
at least twice, ever hopeful that we had managed to miss the one aisle
in the entire world that held the wonderful products that I had seen on TV.
Finally, with tears of disappointment streaming down my cheeks, they led
me back to the car and we drove home, my father being the very kind man
that he was, told me that it was probably just that we lived in such a
small city, perhaps ACME didn't put their full line of products into
this store.
He tried, but I recall being put out like only a 6 year old child can
be. I'm sure I was insufferable for days.
