PESO ISO 10,000 bird
That bird shot (an owl me thinks) sitting on the barbed wire fence is just awesome. Your eyes are as sharp as that owl to spot such a good photo opportunity. Alas here in Bangalore urbanization has driven away most of the birds and butterflies. I think the Cell Phone Towers are the main culprit. But Larry that is a big lens you lugged around to San Jose Airport. I kind of feel awkward carrying that big fellow of a 500 mm lens around except on wildlife parks or on my terrace. Here in India most houses have rather huge flat terraces - very useful for fun photography, kite flying, sunning pickles or just chilling out. Next time I am in San Mateo I must visit you. Regards. PESO: Favorite from Wednesday portrait session
Dealing with the horrid heat and humidity sucked pretty badly, but it wasn't without its rewards. This one is of the oldest child of the family, Amaya. Re: [meta] Reply-to list (was Re: FS: Low-mileage K-7 body, WR kit zoom, Tamron 24-135 lens)
Reply to list is superior. My error was in responding to a threaded conversation. It happens. Without reply to list much of what we say would just go back to the person we are responding to and not the list. I know this would get me almost every single time. Hey if you're dumb enough to post to a public list something you definitely don't want the whole list to see, well you get what you deserve because you've just proven yourself to be a dumbass. Then again I'm not one to say something to another person that I would be afraid to have repeated. Better to just be that way in general in everything you do. As much as I enjoy exercising my retouching chops, I decided to limit time spent on the B-list frames from this shoot. BTW, the apparent extra weight of her right foot is an illusion created by the wedgie style of that shoe. What it tells me is that that style is unflattering at a few angles which need to be avoided. OT: Family portraits in horrible weather
Well, last week I delivered the end results of the family portraits I recently did that gave me such a fit the week prior. The family was pleased enough with my heroic efforts that the mother's sister wanted her family's portraits done this week. There were no makeup line issues, and the kids were very easy to work with (except for the youngest, a toddler who was just too quick and full of energy for me to keep up with). Only problem was the date they'd decided on happened to coincide with a temperature of 95F and 75% humidity (which, as I understand it, equates to a heat index of 400 degrees). And they wanted them done outdoors in the downtown area -- just to get the full heat island effect, I assume. By the end of the two-hour session, my clothes were quite literally drenched in sweat. Looking through the photos, I can see I have my work cut out for me again. And to think I held hopes of someday giving up bartending to do this stuff. On the plus side, next week looks to be pretty nice. -- Walt -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: OT: Ansel Adams 1983 BBC interview (1 year before his, death)
I seem to remember reading somewhere that he was given use of an early Kodak digital device, (I'm not sure camera would be the proper word for a prototype of a prototype). On 4/18/2013 9:13 AM, Darren Addy wrote: I don't think there is any question that if Ansel Adams were still alive that he would have embraced digital. But I think he would have been drawn to producing large inkjet negatives for contact printing on traditional silver papers (what today is called "hybrid" photography). The dodging and burning he used to do on the paper, would be done in post-processing of the digital file to produce the best inkjet digital negative. In today's resurgence of interest in film photography, and even large format film photography, he would probably be a huge workshop presenter - doing a lot of the traditional things he has always done. In the dedication of his Portfolio VII, written in May of 1976, he said the following: "I am both pleased and honored to have worked through more than half a century in the world of photography, and to have observed its ever-expanding potential as a medium of expression and communication. The original Polaroid Land print in this portfolio represents for me a voyage into the future. New aspects of seeing, new means of communication, new qualities of image and new levels of subjective and intellectual comprehension lie ahead. While I have always worked with fairly conventional means and techniques, I anticipate new departures which, if I cannot examine them in my lifetime, will assure the power of future vision and accomplishment." I didn't do them all, but I was taught by the owner how to use the enlarger to pre-fog a sheet of 5x7 neg material before I placed the carrier with the slide in. Once those 5x7 sheets were processed and checked, they were placed in either our 5x7 Elmer vertical enlarger for up to 20x24 prints or our custom horizontal (on rails in a large room) enlarger for the 40x60 prints for museums or shows. In some cases, we exposed transparency film for airport backlit billboards for Wells Fargo and a few airlines. 45" wide by 30' long film tacked up to the wall in the dark using taped on plastic guides, one sheet at a time. That was all we could process at a time on our Holtzmueller drum processor. It had to be accurate enough and properly replenished so each roll matched exactly once they were hung. Someone else did the trimming and edge reinforcements for display. More fun! Funny, indeed! I would have left a bit more space on the top of the photo (and maybe just a notch at the bottom, - maybe not). Annoyed by BuyDig -- big Boo!
Big Boo to BuyDig for re-subscribing me to their junk-mail despite my explicit preferences set long time ago. I've been using BuyDig as one of the sources of photo equipment since 2005, when (IIRC) I bought my *istDS from them. As some PDMLers may remember, I've recommended them a few times here on the list as a mostly reasonable retailer (albeit not without occasional idiosyncrasies). In late June they started sending me their SPAM (aka UCE - Unsolicited Commercial E-mails), despite my strict preferences for not receiving any promotional and other junk. It turned out my preferences were reset to receive all junk. This has happenned for the 2nd time (the first time it happened at the end of 2008, and I made sure I unsubscribed in 2009). I know that some PDMLers don't mind if they have to delete a few extra spam messages. I do mind it: with the amount of different companies with which I shop for my work and for personal purchases, if I were receiving their "subscriptions", all I'd be doing is cleaning my mailbox. Besides, when there is too much extraneous mail, the important messages tend to get lost among the junk occasionally. At work, I stopped purchasing supplies from a couple of companies who were notorious about spamming their customers. Once more, - big BOO to BuyDig for wasting my time and re-subscribing me to their junk mail. Re: For the Off Camera Flash Enthusiast
My lamp has 312 LEDs and it's bright enough to add some light in fall-off areas when shooting with flash. I recently used it when shooting a car at dusk from a 3/4 angle. It was sufficiently powerful to even out the lighting down the side of the car. It takes a lithium i-ion battery identical to that of some Sony video cameras. The lamp is similar to this one but has variable field of light rather than variable color temp: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/884129-REG/genaray_led_7100t_312_lamp_variable_clr.html On Jul 18, 2013, at 12:19 PM, Bipin Gupta wrote: > Hello Bruce & Paul, on use of the the LED Video Lights. Look at the price difference too, $ 8 for the LED Light vs $ 230 for my Digital Module based Auto Thyristor Promaster Flash Gun (a module change converts it into full PTTL). And the AF540FGZ is still costlier. The LED Video Lights are very useful for Macro photos too. My model has a flimsy hot shoe mount too, but I am going to swap the mount from an old Flash Gun. Thanks knarf and Brian, and all the rest. Being on Kalymnos in Greece I don't have full access to my email, and for that reason the pest week picture may at first only be publisher on Google+. I need the other computer to put it on my website :-) I think part of it is trying to see the difference between the photograph and the photographed. Re: For the Off Camera Flash Enthusiast
I use one for both video and for fill on still shots. But as Bipin said, it was way more expensive. The hot shoe mount is kind of flimsy. The rest of it seems well made. It takes a lithium ion battery or 4 Ni-Mh/AA.
