Re: Dont miss my Bokina so much now
when working with live subjects, the extension of the lens barrel is not the issue as to whether they will be "scared off", what is key is the so called working distance and that is determined by the focal length of the lens. Jinxed my Bokina, can it be repaired?
last week I was extolling the virtues of my mint Tokina manual focus AT-X 90mm F2.5 macro lens (the"Bokina") and now this week it takes a dump. problem is a sticky aperture ( stays wide open at moment of exposure regardless of f stop setting ). It has this problem both on the "A" setting and when f stops are set manually with the aperture ring. does anyone know of an experienced shop that still services these lenses? its such a quality optic I hate to scrap it. thanks in advance, jco -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

These were done with the DFA 15-30 using astrotracer from outside of Weed, just off of I-5. I was hoping the smoke from the fires would be beneficial for foreground effects, it may have caused more problems, possibly even the rainbow effect, I'm not sure. This set doesn't show the ones I tried with the 24/1.4 or the non astrotracer with the 15-30. I don't think I really got any keepers out of this set, but I learned a bit. https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/sets/72157698646538354 I should go back at about a half moon so that I can get shots both with no moonlight and also with Shasta lit after the moon rises. I need to do more overlap on the frames, particularly with the 15-30 The astrotracer really helps with the sky, and with the dark foreground doesn't make a lot of difference there. I should definitely bracket the photos. I wish there were stacking software that could separate the sky from the foreground and stack them each appropriately. Also software that could stitch an astrotracer sky with a non astrotracer foreground, while stacking them for HDR and panorama. I also wish the software would use the gps, accelerometer and compass data to make the stitching go faster. -- J.C. Ive heard good things about the D FA 80-200/2.8. Im not really into AF I have two excellent MF 80-200/2.8 lenses, a tamron SP and a Tokina AT-X, They are both optically and mechanically great but they are bulky so I rarely use them, prefering the A70-210/4 most of the time if Im going to use a zoom. I cannot fathom why UPS, FedEx and other delivery businesses would want to emulate the latest stupidities that strictly enforcing USPS rules have created. On the other hand it is disturbing that a signature required tracked package could be left on one's doorstep, as FedEx did, and be considered properly delivered, as happened when I ordered my K20D from B&H photo several years ago. (Although in this case, I believe, the end result is "as doctor prescribed": the package was delivered to their outlet, as you requested. So, from the UPS point of view, - they complied with your request. :-P ) I would argue that it is a feature of any large service system: it works acceptably well until it breaks; but when it breaks, all hell breaks loose, and nobody knows what to do. Speaking of large service "machines": I was greatly impressed with the design and setup of another large machine: Disneyland. Re: We Tried It: The Pentax K System
Have you guys seen what mint spotmatics sell for now? like $20 on ebay its unbeleivable low On 4/5/2017 6:15 PM, Paul Stenquist wrote: My Mamiya 1000TL died about then. I had been shooting with it for years and had acquired four M42 lenses. So I went to buy a Spotmatic only to find my camera store had only the new Pentax K cameras. If the counter guy had explained the screw mount adapter I probably would have gone for a Pentax K. But he didn't, so I bought a Fuji 801 M42 camera. Good technology and I probably shot over 100,000 frames with it over ten years or so and made quite a bit of money. Finally got my Pentaxes used in the late '80s. First an H3v, then a bunch of Spotmatics and Spotmatic Fs. I made up for lost time. Even had an all black Spotmatic motor drive. Sold that beauty for big bucks to a guy in Japan but still have my other M42 Pentax cameras. No Ks, but an LX and an MX. I've often wondered why Pentax introduced two entirely new body ranges so close together - they must have had the M-series bodies well on the way to production by the time the KM/KX/K2 were released. The answer is Market Forces. If you will recall, everyone made big body SLRs until Olympus shook up the world with the introduction of the OM-1 system. http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/olympusom1n2/om1/ The Pentax M series was clearly a response to that. That's always been my understanding, too. But as John pointed out, the M series appeared only about a year after the K series. That's a very short time frame for development and production of a new model. If the M series was a response to the Olympus OM series, Pentax must have had prior knowledge that the OMs were coming. A spy at Olympus, perhaps? :-) Cheers Brian ++ Brian Walters Western Sydney Australia http://lyons-ryan.org/southernlight/ -- -- -- http://www.fastmail.com - Choose from over 50 domains or use your own -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
