Re: GESO: Woodward Dream Cruise
That URL doesn't work for me. It tells me there's an expired security certificate. After I tell my browser to accept the certificate anyway, it loads a page, but the photos get 'broken' icons. I can find your pictures by searching for Paul Stenquist, but that's a sub-optimal solution. Also, do you know if there's any way to navigate from one picture to the next with the keyboard? Re: Semi-OT: Maybe getting a new laptop?
If you want everything preconfigured and you don't want to do it yourself, I'm not sure Linux is the best choice for you. With that said, I think Dell sells computers with Linux preinstalled. I'd guess it's Red Hat Linux, but I haven't checked. I use and love Linux. I've also had good luck with Windows. I still own 3 Macs, though I don't use them. None of the operating systems are magic. They're all pretty good these days, but you can still run into problems with any of them. If I were you, I'd give Windows another shot, unless you didn't like the way it does things when things do work. I'd probably avoid getting another Toshiba simply because they're having some serious financial problems these days. Finally, Clippit the paper clip was never a part of any operating system; it was part of Office. Allow me to get even further off topic. I recently finished Virtual Light by William Gibson, published in 1993. There was a character in that book; a courier named Hans Blix. Sound familiar? Perhaps I'm a little slow...
I've only had one lense since I bought my SF-10 in 2000: an F 35-70/3.5-4.5. I ordered an M 75-150/4 from Adorama and it showed up last week. I was getting rather frustrated with the new lense because I could only focus it by turning what I thought was the zoom ring, and I couldn't find the narrow focusing ring that I was used to. I just realized this morning that the wide (***wide***) ring is the focusing ring, and you don't twist anything to zoom in/out; you just slide the focusing ring in/out. :-) Seeing as this is the first lense I've bought independent of a body, I don't have much frame of reference to evaluate this new purchase, but I had no problems with Adorama, and the only fault I can find with the lense is a small scratch in the black lacquer on the lense hood. -Rich Worcester, MA, USA
Re: How's Adorama For Used Equip?
I've just ordered my first lens from Adorama, a used Pentax-m 75-150/4.0 Lens *49mm in ex+ condition. This will be the first lens I've ever bought; previously I only had the lens that came with my SF-10 (35-70/3.5-4.5, I think). I'll write again after it arrives. -Rich Worcester, MA, USA > Monday, June 30, 2003, 4:11:07 PM, you wrote: > >> "...I'm eyeing some equipment from Adorama and I'd like > >> to know how they are with their used department. 2001 All-Ford Nationals at Carlisle
I just posted some new pictures on my website: http://rich.richardklein.org/images/index.html Sadly, they were taken with a free promotional camera (which, thanks to this list, I now know was a rangefinder) that I received from some cigarette company. Two days after shooting these pictures the winder stopped working and I decided it was time to buy a "real" camera. That's when I got my SF-10. Most of the pictures are discolored along the left side. Is that what light leakage looks like? The images are un-retouched; not cropped or anything. They look much better when I simply use the auto-level feature in PhotoShop, but I figure you can tweak the pictures however you like. -Rich - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. RE: Photo CDs
Oh yeah, they made prints. I took the prints because they were making them anyway, and I'm hoping to find some time today to try scanning them myself. I thought they'd have better scanners, though, and more scanning experience. I didn't think about whether they were making the CD from the prints or from the negatives. Perhaps if I ask the right questions they'd scan straight from the negatives next time. -Rich William Robb wrote: > > - Original Message ----- > From: "Richard Klein" > Subject: Photo CDs > > > > I tried getting a roll of film developed straight to a CD for > the first time > > yesterday. Photo CDs
I tried getting a roll of film developed straight to a CD for the first time yesterday. I forget the brand name, but it wasn't a Kodak PhotoCD. The files on the CD were .jpg images, approximately 1480x1035, 24-bit color. I was a bit disappointed because that resolution doesn't allow for much zooming and cropping before you run into blatant pixellation. RE: Images or Photographs
I doubt that Ansel Adams had a digital camera, so he probably had some photo-sensitive (phototropic?) material in his camera and was thus taking photographs. If they have since digitized his photographs and are printing them on Iris inkjet printers then they are no doubt gorgeous reproductions of his photographs. If you want to say that because the image was captured with photo-sensitive materials even the reproductions would be photographs, well... I'll go along with that if I'm in a good mood. But the Iris prints wouldn't be photographs just because they look as good as a photograph. -Rich Aaron Reynolds wrote: > > Richard Klein wrote: > > > > Yeah, OK, we're not disagreeing then. Yeah, OK, we're not disagreeing then. The current Ansel Adams prints are not photographs, but they are reproductions of his original photographs. He committed them to film way back when, right? RE: Images or Photographs
The word photograph suggests to me a picture (image!) made via a light-sensitive process. Film is light sensitive. CCDs are light sensitive, but are the phosphors on a monitor? They glow because of non-visible radiation, right? Printer paper certainly isn't light-sensitive (ignoring the yellowing caused by UV exposure). Anyways, I consider photographs, and probably pictures, to be subsets of images, just one particular type of image. -Rich William Robb wrote: > > Shel Belinkoff wrote: > > > Hey, what's all this talk about images?
