Re: You Fuji owners may have firmware updates (and also be arrogant)
I think his criticism is fair, and his comparison with tourism is appropriate so it is not simply anti-royalist. He is saying that Harry is behaving like an imperialist, which I think is true. He is able to behave like that, or at least get attention, because he is royal - most tourists do not. Other photographers are criticised for the same reasons. As for enhancing the effectiveness of his work, you might think it justifies it, but there are many people who do not. In large parts of the world these sorts of charitable organisations - and I work for one of them - are seen as patronising at best, arms of imperialism and western spies at worst. It is a complex issue, not as clear-cut a case of good as you might at first think, and NGOs are very aware of the pitfalls and issues - I think Harry has made a bit of a mistake with this. Re: K-5 IIs locks up - did the recent firmware updates fix, it?
I had something similar happen with the K20D. Had to take the battery out for several minutes before it would work again. It's only happened once and it's been long enough since it happened I don't remember the details too clearly. I did have a problem with just the front wheel freezing while I shooting early in the morning in January at the Grand Canyon. Couldn't change the aperture. Turn the wheel and nothing would happen. Fortunately the front wheel in the battery grip continued to work. And later in the day, after the sun was up the ambient temperature rose, the front wheel started working again. I ran into the problem when I rented a K-5II (although it wasn't just wide angle). I've found a dumb workaround is to put the camera into continuous-focus mode. The focus failure mode is always that it zips right into the neighborhood of the correct focus but refuses to lock (I get the flashing hexagon(octagon?) in the viewfinder). With continuous-focus, it WILL (if you set the camera up this way) ultimately take the shot even if the camera doesn't 'think' it is in locked focus. So, press, hold, and push the shutter button all the way in and... CLICK photo taken. If you look closely, you'll see that I have the problem occasionally STILL with the K5 - although far less frequently. -Charles -- Charles Robinson - charl...@visi.com Minneapolis, MN http://charles.robinsontwins.org http://www.facebook.com/charles.robinson -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Ayup, that's what I saw, too. With continuous-focus, it WILL (if you set the camera up this way) ultimately take the shot even if the camera doesn't 'think' it is in locked focus. So, press, hold, and push the shutter button all the way in and... CLICK photo taken. Thanks, I'll try that. See Memo at the bottom of page 14 of the D-BG2 manual. The e-dials on the camera and grip must be solidly clicked into their detents or their opposite numbers will fail to register. This happens to me all the time when using the grip and discourages me from using it much. I don't think that's what happened, because it spontaneously stopped working when it was really cold and spontaneously started working again when the temperature got warmer. Mostly I leave the battery grip switch in the off position so I won't get hip bumps tripping the shutter. I don't even know why I thought to turn it on check if the the e-dials on the grip would work. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

One of us PDMLers mentioned here to do the following after removing the battery:- a) Wait (2) mins, then w/o the battery ON the camera, Press a few buttons. b) Change to a new SDHC Card which has been formatted in the camera. c) Put a different lens, after cleaning the lens body contacts. d) Install a freshly charged battery and then test the camera. Make sure the chrome plated battery terminals are cleaned with a Q-tip dipped in pure alcohol and then polished off with a soft cloth. e) Re-apply the firmware if in doubt. Always use the latest firmware, and don't be afraid to apply it. Pentax-Ricoh are known to cram improvements w/o disclosing every thing. I think these steps ensure the motherboard is neutralized of all electrical charges and that all contacts are firm + others. Give it a try the next time. Regards. I'm with you, Rob... I experienced this the other day with my K-5... it just wouldn't shoot. Turned off, turned on, battery out, battery in, new battery, AF off, AF on, nothing... meanwhile, the hockey game goes on... I grabbed the k-01, took the 60-250 off the k-5, slapped it on (whoa), and was back in business. Sort of. Minutes later, I tried the k-5 again, with the 21mm, and lo behold, it's working again. Later, at home, the 60-250 back on the k-5, everything seems to be fine. I'd send it in, but these little episodes are pretty random and infrequent, they could have the camera for weeks, trying to get it to show symptoms... Re: K-5 IIs locks up - did the recent firmware updates fix it?
I had that same freeze problem 3-4 times in a couple years with the K20D, only with third-party D-LI50 batteries almost empty and never with genuine batteries. Extracting and re-inserting the battery (or replacing it with a charged one) always solved the problem on the spot. With the K-5, it also happened with the original D-LI90 battery. Again, it happened 3-4 times in a couple years and replacing the battery made the camera alive again. I never had to wait for fixing the problem, so I never experienced more that a few seconds blackout. Whenever I'm paid for shooting (which seldom happens), I always take two bodies with me. K5-IIs locks up - did the recent firmware updates fix it?
It was the first time since I bought k5-IIs that the battery ran out of juice. The camera was in the video mode, and got locked up in that mode. Turning it off did not switch it off. The only way I could switch it off was by removing the battery. It happened twice (with two different batteries). It looks like this bug has not been fixed in the II from the original K5. :-( I am on the original firmware. Does anybody know if the recent updates fixed this problem? Re: K5-IIs locks up - did the recent firmware updates fix it?
I think I have the most recent firmware installed in my K-5II (i.e., ver 1.03). During my Caribbean trip, I had 2-3 occasions when the camera froze while On (in normal photo mode, not video). Would not turn off. Took out battery, waited 5-10 seconds, re-installed battery and just continued on where I left off. IIRC, it was always with my 35/2.8 macro lens, but since I used that lens for a high proportion of my shots, I can't be sure whether the fault was in the body or in the body-lens pairing. stan On Apr 7, 2013, at 9:01 PM, Igor Roshchin wrote: It was the first time since I bought k5-IIs that the battery ran out of juice.
