I have to say, Mark, this is very good news indeed. I have to say I didn’t realize this kind of thing could happen, though I am not a tech sophisticate, so no surprise there. Re: OT - My blog is dead!
I heard back from both the B2Evolution forums and also from my webhost. Someone at B2E looked at the error message and sent me a suggested hack to the install script. That advanced the install a short way forward but it crashed later on. My webhost will restore the SQL backup for free. However, they said that it looks like the updated version of b2e is not comparable with some server settings so their recommendation is to restore the old database and old version of the blog and roll with that. I have asked them if they could be a little more specific. They said that nothing on the server had changed recently, so the question remains as to why the blog stopped working. In digging through the B2E forums I found a couple of others who had the same problem that I had with their blogs and the one person who posted on the resolution ascribed the issue to a change in settings in Apache. I may restore the old database and blog software and either move to a new host or try an incremental update. I'd like to hear back from the B2E since they seem pretty responsive. OT - My blog is dead!
Last night I tried to post a couple of new images and found that new posts would no longer display on my blog - the content was in the posts when opened for editing but the published pages came up with just the titles and no content in the body of the post. Since the version of B2Evoluiton that I was using was over 5 years old, I tried upgrading as a hopeful solution - but the upgrade process crashed partway through. It did update the mySQL database enough to make it incompatible with older versions of B2E, though! Ug - I do have backups of the database and the rest of the site from Friday, yesterday and today, so hopefully I can restore it and try again. This would probably be a good time to rethink what platform to use to share images, though at any rate I'd hate to lose almost 10 years worth of blogging! I hate dealing with this stuff because I have no idea of the technicalities involved. HOpefully the forums on b2evolution.net will have a useful solution. This would probably be a good time to rethink what platform to use to share images, though at any rate I'd hate to lose almost 10 years worth of blogging! I hate dealing with this stuff because I have no idea of the technicalities involved. HOpefully the forums on b2evolution.net will have a useful solution. But generally, I don't find your blog to be any slower than other sites I frequent. I think the Blogspot servers are not fully integrated in the Google infrastructure yet, but rather reside on an infrastructure that was transferred as-is when Google bought Blogspot. BobW, I suspect your antivirus software. If you have all the preemptive scanning functionality enabled for your web browser, it means that all linked-in content is scrutinised. In cases of ad servers gathering statistics without really giving content back I think you will end up waiting for connection timeouts, which are fairly short as such, but quite annoying nonetheless. My fundamental tool for ad blocking is the hosts file. Redirects unwanted domains to local host 127.0.0.1 Blocked ads leave a frame with a box that says Unable to connect. Firefox can't establish a connection with whatever domain, so you know what ad site has been blocked. You can edit the hosts file to unblock that site if you want to. The only time it has ever given me any trouble was some BBC videos that started out by redirecting to a commercial hosted on doubleclick. They'd give that endless arrow chasing around in a circle with a message waiting for so and so down in the lower left corner of the browser. I ended up giving those videos a pass. There are some sites essentially unreachable because they redirect to a pass through ad that's on one of the blocked hosts. But if the site is going to resort to that kind of deceptive action, I don't want to go there anyway. It won't block ads that are actually hosted on the site if the site itself is not on the list - like NYTimes has most of their web advertising actually on the NYTimes server. It's easy to update and add in new SPAM sites. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

The ads block lists are updated by subscription automatically and flash block creates a little play icon over the blocked page element. If you want to white list a page to flash block I think it involves a right click and selection, I don't really remember as it's almost a thoughtless process.
