PESO: Weed?

2007-08-05 Thread Toine
Many years ago finding this orchid would be a pleasant surprise.
Nowadays not finding it would be a surprise. They grow everywhere.
I googled a little to find the English name (broadleaf helleborine,
Epipactis helleborine ) and to my surprise it's native in North
America since 1879 and is considered a weed!

If all weeds would be orchids!

PESO - Weed 1

2009-07-01 Thread Bruce Dayton
It has been a while since posting any pesos. Today my son showed his
first interest in really doing some photography. He had a P&S super
zoom camera, but I loaded him up with a K10D and had him try a few
lenses.

After work and dinner we took a walk to the park and took pictures.
This is one of mine.

nice angles -- i like how some of the stems line up to create an unusual
emphasis of the lines; we call that "shovel weed" around here, just
another take on the shape of the seeds (not shown in your photo)

Thanks everone for you nice comments.

The light comes from a Metz macro flash which is very handy combined
with the DA35 macro.

1000x1000px is indeed enough. Didn't realize the LR export outputs
several sizes. Also nice is the flickr facebook integration (export to
flickr and flickr updates facebook). I do miss the statistics and
slideshow/director from my website.

Works for me.
Leaving in the part you took out, puts the image in a more or less a snap
category.

The revised image, nowing what you were working with, has more of a crafted
feel to it where all aspects of the image was studied before the shutter was
released.,

I'm not wild about multiple exposures when they're used to achieve a surreal
effect, although there can be situations where that kind of image is
appropriate. But when the technique is used to extend the dynamic range of the
camera to more closely approximate the eye I find that it's most often a plus,
sometimes a game saver.

Always good to reply to yourself. It is interesting to note that
several have commented on the foreground being murky. On my monitor
it is dark, but just fine - no murkiness - I can see the details. Now my
monitor is
calibrated and I don't know about any others. It is not uncommon for
some people to comment on various pictures being too dark. I just
wonder if it is mostly a monitor thing, or more of a preference of
what the image should look like.

The dynamic compression (multiple exposures layered to make it all
work on one image) doesn't really "work" for me, though. It's kinda
