I agree with Jack's comment, though it might require some wading to accomplish... I also like that it was taken with a K10D. I've always loved the sensor on that camera (as long as there's plenty of light). I passed mine along to my son, who is getting very nice shots with it. Re: PESO: Morning at Lake Wanaka
Sharp and well exposed image, Dave! If you will allow, I do have a nit. With the background hill and foreground bush, the composition feels heavy on the right. Moving to the right and placing the bush to the left of the snow capped background hills would seem a more comfortable compositional balance. Many nice elements in the scene! Re: PESO: On the Lake
I hadn't thought about moire. I don't think I've encountered it with the K3. I don't fully understand the technology. The only time I experienced noticeable moire was when trying to scan MF transparencies directly on the glass of a flatbed. Re: PESO: On the Lake
Paul, I agree, a lot of the feather detail does "show", but not with the snap I was hoping for. This may not be a fair test due to the light and resulting lack of contrast. I'm hoping that's the case. Sorry if you thought my reaction hasty and ill considered. I'm going to leave it at that for now with nothing but the sincerest hope that the lens is everything you and I both hope for. Re: PESO: Sunset at Lake Wanaka
Thanks to everyone who looked, I'm glad you liked it. That was the only sunset I got to see during the whole trip as I was going to bed early every night (had to get up early in the mornings). The stitching was done in Photoshop, nothing special done in that regard. I'm not usually so fond of panoramas that are this wide but I couldn't resist all that cloud. Thanks for the kind words, David. I must say, sunrises over the lake tend to be quite pretty. In the summer the sun comes up near downtown but as winter nears it comes up over the water. Re: PESO/GESO: Radnor Lake Saturday Morning
I moved on a few pictures from the linked fawn shot. I think I prefer the Fawn Resting image: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jt-johnson/5855685820/in/photostream/ I can see why you asked about the flies etc., they are pretty gross. The thing I prefer about this is that you don't have the eyes so centered in the frame; and you've shown enough of the context that I can tell that the fawn is lying down. The little buggers are cute aren't they! I almost stepped on one the other day while playing golf. Errant shot off to the edge of the woods, I went looking, found the little guy. Of course no camera with me, not even my phone. stan On Jun 22, 2011, at 8:37 PM, Jeffery Johnson wrote: Those that commented on my question about removing flies and ticks off the Fawn. RE: PESO/GESO: Radnor Lake Saturday Morning
Thanks Stan and the reason I wanted to remove them weren't per say that they are gross the flies that is but more that they attract attention away from the fawn. I am glad you didn't step on the fawn. If the weather will allow I am wanting to get back over to Radnor Lake again early Saturday morning to see if I can get some better captures of the fawn. ___ You can see my latest captures by visiting my Flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jt-johnson/ -Original Message- From: pdml-boun...@pdml.net [mailto:pdml-boun...@pdml.net] On Behalf Of Stan Halpin Sent: Wednesday, June 22, 2011 8:42 PM To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List Subject: Re: PESO/GESO: Radnor Lake Saturday Morning I moved on a few pictures from the linked fawn shot. Thanks, It's one of Toronto's earlier suburbs, planned out in the late 1890's but settled between the wars when industrialization (and a streetcar line) came. It's currently a bit rough around the edges after a very tough couple of decades since the factories closed, but it's a cool place. And not that far from downtown, either. So far I'm liking it. BTW, for you locals, I'm now in New Toronto, a small area between Mimico and Long Branch. We're relying on you to fix that. There's actually a fair bit of graffiti along the main street, Lakeshore Blvd, especially in a few alleyways. I'm sure it'll make it's way into a few upcoming photos. ;-) Thanks to everyone for the kind words. I have no Idea of the name of the glacier you're referring to, but we ate in a large rustic restaurant across from a glacier on which tourists were being driven in buses. I may have a shot and will take a look. Remember we were there early spring and the area would likely be carrying slightly more snow and ice than when you were there in June. If I can locate my shot of Lake Moraine, (near Louise) I may get a small web scan done. If you're ever been there, you will be struck by the lack of snow and the low water. I had a large print made of it after returning home, but grew to regard it as a so so shot and probably relegated the neg to my oblivion file. I cropped some of the foreground boulders to give it what I felt was a better composition. Was a variety of color neg film that I'm too lazy to dig out to check. Don't recall the ISO, but was shooting some 200 in those days. Re: PESO: My Sorry Lake Louise
JAck - I have to tell you that my dear departed , who loathes shopping, had to take me to the mall there... it was quite amazing do note however, that Edmonton is not in the US (snicker snicker) The one in Minneapolis is just a mall... but Edmunton's mall, back then, was fascinating and we had a great meal there... but I've heard that it has fallen into serious disrepair... I happen to ahve one shot I took there up on line - http://annsan.smugmug.com/gallery/2538600_2db8E/1/352326884_KTJeG/Large It's on one of my Sign Language calendars... ann Jack Davis wrote: The only part of that trip my wife remembers is our visit to the largest mall in the US (at least at that time) located in Edmonton. ;) Jack --- On Mon, 12/8/08, ann sanfedele [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: From: ann sanfedele [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: PESO: My Sorry Lake Louise To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List pdml@pdml.net Date: Monday, December 8, 2008, 10:24 AM Yes - that is the Athabasca ... I will definitely dig up my comparison shots I know Moraine Lake, of course -- (I've been to the Canadian Rockies 4 times... though the last time I wasn't as far north as Jasper...) The lack of snow and low water has to do with when you were there of course - not just in terms of months but what year it was WHen I was there in June of 1976 I was walking in snow to get around to the otherside of the lake at Lake Louise... I had hoped to climb up the trail to MT Burgess to poke around the outcrops for trilobites in the Burgess shale... alas, there was much too much snow on the trail. I was there just about summer Solstice time.In 1992 I saw the Athabasca in late April. ann Jack Davis wrote: I have no Idea of the name of the glacier you're referring to, but we ate in a large rustic restaurant across from a glacier on which tourists were being driven in buses. I think the fine people of Edmonton will be surprised to find out we annexed them...
