Re: Peso: What do you mean you need to sit here to work?

2020-03-16 Thread John
It's not general delivery like we get during the week, they only go to specific
houses.

I think it has something to do with a contract the Postal Service has with
UPS/FedEx to handle the final mile of deliveries.

But I don't think that's who he was barking at, 'cause I could hear kids playing
outside.

Prince does that too. Just as soon as I get up for any reason, he hops up on

waits for me to sit down so he can get into my lap.

Right now, he's in the living room barking at the mailman through the front

Honestly  can't remember the name of the facility or the exact town it
was in.

All I remember is that it was close enough to the convention center
where G. H. W. Bush and W. J. Clinton gave campaign speeches, pretty
much back to back that I had to take two Fridays off to avoid being
sealed in by both the Secret Service, and horrible traffic.  They
needless to say both helicoptered in...

I was working through Anderson Consulting at the time, who changed their
name to Accenture, to protect the guilty, mainly themselves, being
partly privy to the inside politics between Arthur Andersen and AC was
interesting and a very long sometimes amusing story.  I was working on
the SSART (sp? as I said it's been many years), project.  A project
who's entire premise was that the AC tech team was smarter than anyone
else, something that's been proven wrong over and over again.   I don't
think AT ever took over complete maintenance of that system, because
of it's convoluted design.

Thanks, Igor.

What Exit also makes Peach Wine. I have a bottle, but haven't opened it
yet.

In Maui, the Tedeschi Winery make a nice pineapple wine and another from
Lilikoi (passion fruit). I prefer their more traditional grape wines,
which are quite good.

I do not know much about NY wines or WA wines.

Re: PESO: What Exit Wine

2018-07-05 Thread Igor PDML-StR

Wine in a can can be from CA. It's called "simpler wines":
https://www.traderjoes.com/digin/post/simpler-wines

BTW, peach wine from this line is a good summer refresher.

Dan:
We've had some interesting fruit wines from NJ/NY wineries.
(we like different wines for different occasions, "classic" dry, some
fruit(y) wines, etc.)
But the best fruit (non-grape) wine of all the times was the raspberry
wine from Hoodsport Winery in WA state.
We've discovered it by chance in late 90's, and had been ordering it on a
regular basis since that, for some 15+ years.

It was in the vicinity of $10-12 per bottle shipped (if buying a case).
But... recently, its cost went up drastically ($30 now)...
http://hoodsport.stores.yahoo.net/raspberry.html

What's nice is that it was not sweet at all. It was very slightly off-dry,
so it was fine with those who like dry wines. But because of the fruity
taste, sweet-wine lovers liked it as well.

Cheers,

Igor

Re: PESO: What Exit Wine

2018-07-05 Thread P. J. Alling
The question is not so much better, as more palatable.  An inexpensive
bottle of a local wine could easily be more palatable than a very
expensive rare vintage.  Remember one of the flavors and odors wine
connoisseurs use to describe a wine is merde.

LOL!

Thanks, Ann. And Bob - I think...

So this isn't as weird as it seems. Taken last weekend at an indigenous
peoples' festival, the fox is an animal totem. Ojibway, I think. But I could be
wrong.

There were crows, eagles and horses (the latter obviously being a post European
invasion - I mean contact - thing), all wandering about the grounds.

Thanks all for the comments and for looking.

Cheers,

Sounds like a neat job, Jim

The difficult thing I find in describing the color of something I'm
selling is what most people who would buy this that or the other thing
would respond to or see as being most correct - because while I may get
the color spot on on my monitor, and it translates well, the keywords
as words get them to the listing, lets see, is it pomegranate? or
Cranberry? Lemon or Canary? gets tough.

Thank you, Tim, Ann, and Dave for your response.
Special thanks to Ann for encouraging me to edit this photo.

Actually, I had tried to darken that lit part, but it was requiring a more
careful work to be done, so, I didn't go all the way with its processing.

So, the photo is updated:
http://42graphy.org/galleries/2014-08-BsAsGraffiti/_IR09778.html

How does it look now? (for those who have seen it before)

I am also puzzled why this well-lit portion shows in my browser somewhat
lighter than outside of the browser (Firefox).
I know that I am using settings (the LR default) to export photos
with RGB color profile. So, they should be seen correctly in Firefox.
I just checked, and Opera and Chrome seem to be showing colors more
consistently.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's the photo I meant. It's the one that links
from Wikipedia:

File:Killdeer (Charadrius vociferus) -female on nest.jpg

I see a black eye with a red surround. The upper part is shadowed kind
of dull, but the red appears to go completely around the eye.

There's a white ring that goes all the way around the neck with a black
ring below it. The second white black rings below that don't go all
the way around because of the brown feathers on the back.

A search for Killdeer in Google Images also turned up many images
showing the red circle around the eye.

I also found this:
http://naturemappingfoundation.org/natmap/facts/killdeer_712.html

: Killdeer (Charadrius vociferus)
: Species code: CHVO
:
: Description: The Killdeer is the largest of the ringed plovers, and
: the only plover in its range with a double breast band. Killdeers
: have brown upperparts, white underparts, and orange rumps. The eyes
: are dark with a bright red eye ring (see photo below). In flight, the

The killdeer photos seem to be consistent with two black rings around
the neck area rather than one.

The second ring is hidden by the angle it's photographed from. It
extends across the chest lower than the ring around the neck.

Here's a good closeup that shows the red circle around the eye how the
lower black ring is not complete.

One last shot from Monday.  I wanted to identify this bird before I posted this
but I can't.  The closest I could come is a Semipalmated Plover.  But this bird
has very noticeable red ring around it's eye.  Otherwise it's a good match.
Anyone have any ideas?

The killdeer photos seem to be consistent with two black rings around the neck
area rather than one.

The second ring is hidden by the angle it's photographed from. It
extends across the chest lower than the ring around the neck.

Here's a good closeup that shows the red circle around the eye how the
lower black ring is not complete.

So the day before yesterday I was taking the dog for a walk and did not
take a camera with me. During that entire time there was a big beautiful
hawk patrolling the sky within easy reach of the A*300mm with F 1.7x
adapter. It seemed to be following our path. I get back home, get the
dog situated, grab the K20 A*300 and F 1.7x rush outside and it's GONE.
(You knew that was going to be upshot didn't you?) I go back inside and
there's the dog with a sheepish expression, (I still don't know what he
was doing wrong).

So maybe the dog ate him.

Swapped lenses and viola.

Things you'll notice immediately,

1.) He really needs to be groomed, (that's all fur, he's really quite a
skinny little pup).

2.) Somebodies been chewing on the furniture behind him, (no not him, a
long gone predecessor.

3.) This is really lame compared to a closeup of a hawk on the wing...

I have horrible hawk-luck myself, P.J. So, I can readily sympathize.

But that is a great-looking creature you have there, and a fun photo. :)
Looks like maybe he got into someone's stash.

I think there was a thread about landscape vs. portrait orientation
somewhere but I think it had to do with monitor sizes...I think.
Anyway, that came into mind because I 'normally' see things in the
portrait orientation: I owe that to the fact I learned to compose with
a half-frame Olympus PEN EE-2 :-D

Contrary girl that I am, I like your first lanscape oriented one in that
set a tad better.
But portrait orientation works better for most magazine and book covers.

Yeah there was a discussion about the monitor aspect ratios and such...

I' m definitely more of a landscape orientation shooter - easier to keep
the camera steady.
I've been more concious of doing that, too, since I'm thinking about
what would work on

calendars...

Portrait works fine here. Beautiful shot and the patch of light on the
water is subtle but enhances the mood.

(The portrait/landscape discussion was in relation to viewing images in
the PUG. Some - me included - dislike having to scroll portrait format
images when they don't fit fully on the screen - no such problem here!)

Cheers
