I occasionally come upon wild turkeys in the local countryside. Always results
in a frantic photo try. Usual result is a couple dark turkey posteriors in full
retreat.
For me, the milk weed attraction is the drifting parachute seeds. Probably

 They're in the city/metro park just a
 couple blocks from our house.
So they are really auasi-wild.  No wild turkey would
 hardly let

The most interesting bit of gear that I saw was Candace's white K2000. It's

That and John Francis' 10-17 fisheye.

:-)

The sensor will be some substantial fraction of the size of the 645
film format, as seen in the photographs of the K10D vs 645D sensor
chips. To enable the 645 series lenses and such to be used, the lens
mount/register/lenses/viewfinder system have to be close to the same
size as for the 645 film model, which establishes the basic
dimensions of the chassis. That's what usually sets the size for a
medium format SLR.

The area where it could lose some size is the depth behind the focus
plane since it doesn't need the film transport drive and insert,
needs space for the SD/CF card cages, LCD, etc instead. I think that
it will be a little shorter front to back, maybe saving an inch or
so, but that's about it.

I'm betting it will be very similar in size and weight to the 645NII
model, overall. That doesn't bother me at all for this kind of
camera. A system kit with a wide and a very wide lens, lots of
battery power and storage cards, a sturdy tripod and remote
release ... I'll be in heaven.

If I'm not in debtor's prison... ;-)

Yep two tripod mounts. If you put a QR plate on each one, it makes
flipping between vertical and horizontal very easy and maintains the
balance on the tripod. The film version has the same.

Re: Pics from Japan PIE other tidbits of Pentax news (from Ken)

2007-03-24 Thread Godfrey DiGiorgi
I think we discussed this at some point in the past month. Based on
Pentax releasing a new D-FA 55 mm lens, it looks like it will be a
1.2x crop on 645 format, which means the current lens range would
need to be extended by one more wide to achieve the same maximum FoV
as the Pentax 645 35mm lens provided.

I still have the loaner 645 system ... Really should get out and
shoot with it some more.

- Overall, the 645D body looks about as bulky as the Pentax 645/645N/
645NII bodies do.

- Pentax has always put both bottom and side tripod mounts on the 645
model. This is great: I fit adapter plates for the tripod and swap
between vertical and horizontal without ever having to flip the

Hi,

So, about what are the dimensions of the 645 and about how much does it
weigh? How big is it compared to a K10D?

I wish I had a pay grade for the 645D to be outside of LOL

 From: Godfrey DiGiorgi

I think we discussed this at some point in the past month. Based on
Pentax releasing a new D-FA 55 mm lens, it looks like it will be a
1.2x crop on 645 format, which means the current lens range would
need to be extended by one more wide to achieve the same maximum FoV
as the Pentax 645 35mm lens provided.

I still have the loaner 645 system ... Really should get out and
 shoot with it some more.

 - Overall, the 645D body looks about as bulky as the Pentax 645/645N/
 645NII bodies do.

 - Pentax has always put both bottom and side tripod mounts on the 645
model. This is great: I fit adapter plates for the tripod and swap
between vertical and horizontal without ever having to flip the
 tripod head over.

Here's a page of specifications:
   http://www.floatograph.com/645v.html

It's bigger than a K10D by a healthy bit, but not so big as to be
unmanageable for hand held shooting. Kind of a lot to carry around
much, however.

I think that's an illusion of its more rounded contours. The digital

less boxy than the original model but not really any smaller.

 ** First the pics:

*Note the *working* 645D. Note also that the little huh button? (not
the correct word I know) to open memory card door id the same as the
K10D. I suppose it would mean the 645D will have the same weather
 treatment as the K10D :)
I ran it through Babel Fish, and the sense I get from that is:

== At PMA07 Pentax showed a 645 Digital with a Kodak 30MP CCD. A
non-working model was shown at PIE 2005, but this time a working example
was shown as evidenced by the picture of the model holding it with an
image displayed in the rear liquid crystal monitor. It was not a sample
you could try out for yourself. Release date is still undecided.

Furthermore, the D-FA 645 55mm f2.8 lens installed is the single working
example. The 645D was developed to work with the existing 645 film
lenses. Release of the lens is planned to be simultaneous with the
release of the 645D. ==

Which might be the reason for the delay; the camera is ready, but the
lens is still being developed.

Image captions (clockwise from upper left):
- 645D. This time a functional model, recognizably function packed
- A model demonstrates a functional camera possibly for the first time.
- The camera has a tripod hole on the side [something to do with medium
format??]
- Rear view. Functionally similar to the K10D
Looks like it will take both CF and SD cards

Caption for the sensor comparison:
- On the left is the 30MP (3,000 ten thousand pixels) CCD for the 645D.
APS-C size CCD (on the right) for size comparison.

Hi Bruce.
Some very nice shots in that group.
I especially like the fence ones.I have a thing for fences, mostly split rail ones.Must
have come from
surveying all those old abandoned farms in the 70's,LOL
One of the things i look for in my rural drives are unique fences and i like how you
shots
those.

Keep up the good work.Makes me want to try and get to a GFM outing in the next year or
two.

Ryan,

Thanks for the comments. I suspect if you hung around the lion area
for quite a while perhaps you would get a better shot. They don't
seem like they like to move around too much. I was shooting with the
longest lens I have (K 300/4) and there were some guys there with some
real bazookas - maybe they had better luck.

Anyway, glad you enjoyed viewing - I had a great time taking them.

Hi Rob.
The exact data from the EXIF are:
Exposure time: 1/800s
Aperture: f/25
ISO: 200

It's shot as RAW, and tweaked for higher contrast and deeper shadows at
the import into Photoshop. The crop is about 1500x1000 pixels, which was
then rescaled for web.

You can always leave the tripod collar at home (as heavy as the FA*300/4.5).
Besides, the F* lens hood is more compact than FA* design.
