But you have a point about rounded corners. I am sure it's big, just a matter how HOW big. :-) The sensor will be some substantial fraction of the size of the 645 film format, as seen in the photographs of the K10D vs 645D sensor chips. To enable the 645 series lenses and such to be used, the lens mount/register/lenses/viewfinder system have to be close to the same size as for the 645 film model, which establishes the basic dimensions of the chassis. That's what usually sets the size for a medium format SLR. The area where it could lose some size is the depth behind the focus plane since it doesn't need the film transport drive and insert, needs space for the SD/CF card cages, LCD, etc instead. I think that it will be a little shorter front to back, maybe saving an inch or so, but that's about it. I'm betting it will be very similar in size and weight to the 645NII model, overall. I think we discussed this at some point in the past month. Based on Pentax releasing a new D-FA 55 mm lens, it looks like it will be a 1.2x crop on 645 format, which means the current lens range would need to be extended by one more wide to achieve the same maximum FoV as the Pentax 645 35mm lens provided. I still have the loaner 645 system ... Really should get out and shoot with it some more. - Overall, the 645D body looks about as bulky as the Pentax 645/645N/ 645NII bodies do. - Pentax has always put both bottom and side tripod mounts on the 645 model. Hi Bruce. This is reply attempt number 2.:-) I like your layout for those GFM pics. I espesially like the fence ones. One of my favorite subjects is split rail fences(probably from seeing so many in my field survey daysg) I like the angles you used in those shots. Good work Dave For those on the list that actually like to look at pictures and discuss photography, I have culled down my GFM pictures to this gallery. I present them for your enjoyment (or not). Hi Bruce. Some very nice shots in that group. I especially like the fence ones.I have a thing for fences, mostly split rail ones.Must have come from surveying all those old abandoned farms in the 70's,LOL One of the things i look for in my rural drives are unique fences and i like how you shots those. Ryan, Thanks for the comments. I suspect if you hung around the lion area for quite a while perhaps you would get a better shot. They don't seem like they like to move around too much. I was shooting with the longest lens I have (K 300/4) and there were some guys there with some real bazookas - maybe they had better luck. We had a wonderfully clear sky, though, so the sun filter was a must. Ciao, Gianfranco = _ __ Do you Yahoo!? Friends. Fun. Try the all-new Yahoo! Messenger. http://messenger.yahoo.com/
RE: Pics of the Venus transit
Hi Rob. The exact data from the EXIF are: Exposure time: 1/800s Aperture: f/25 ISO: 200 It's shot as RAW, and tweaked for higher contrast and deeper shadows at the import into Photoshop. The crop is about 1500x1000 pixels, which was then rescaled for web. RE: Pics of the Venus transit
Really cool shot, Heiko. The extra mm's from 400 to 1000 really does the trick. We never saw Venus that far away from the edge of the sun here. Maybe when it was right on the horizon, but it didn't shine through the fog until 6:30 Eastern American time. Re: Pics of modified F*300mm f/4.5
Looking at what the F* 300mm is supposed to look like, I wonder how it could be comfortably handheld or even carried in a camera bag. The tripod mount is monstrous. Maybe the FA* version isn't so bad after all, guys :) You can always leave the tripod collar at home (as heavy as the FA*300/4.5). Besides, the F* lens hood is more compact than FA* design. regards, Alan Chan _ STOP MORE SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail
Re: Pics of modified F*300mm f/4.5
The previous owner of my newly-acquired lens modified the tripod mount so it wouldn't stick out as much. Someone asked for pics, so here they are. Thanks for the photos, Dave. That does seem like an interesting modification. [Suggestion: one photo from the side would be helpful - g.] The final result is similar to the proportions of the A* 200/4 Macro's tidy little tripod mount. Fred

I'll try to remember to take the lens to work tomorrow and grab another pic or two. The final result is similar to the proportions of the A* 200/4 Macro's tidy little tripod mount.
