I have several soft-focus filters, all of which I made by spraying
Semi-Matte
spray (intended for prints) onto inexpensive UV filters. I was able to
make the
filters with different degrees of softening, and the resulting portraits
have
pleased me and the subjects (even my mother-in-law ...

I used to be happy with my LX, 2 K-1000s a half dozen lenses, my

Then, I decided to buy a computer, so as to learn a bit about

One day, while surfing the web, I came across the Pentax USA

 That was 4 years ago.

Since then, I have nearly retired from active photography.

Not withstanding that fact, I now own 3 LXs, a couple of
ME-Supers, a Program Plus and a few other bodies.
I have bought a couple of dozen more lenses for the 35mm, 3 more
lenses for the 6x7, and a nice wide angle lens for the 4x5.
A 6x7 bellows (SHEESH!!), and a couple of bellows for the 35mm
system, a microscope adaptor which I will likely never use
because I just don't find that stuff all that interesting, and a
bunch of LX viewfinders, one of which I will likely never use.
Two fisheye lenses (one is never enough) and 5 teleconverters,
 including two Pentax 2x-S.

2 of my camera bodies have never had a roll of film put into
them by me, my 300mm f/4 for the 6x7 has not had a shot taken
with it yet, and at least 3 of my 35mm camera lens purchases
have not been mounted on a camera since being purchased, and one
has not been on a camera at all, I just picked it up off a
shelf, gave it a cursory inspection and bought it.

This list is a very bad place.

2003-01-02 Thread Keith Whaley
Oh dear...I started reading this thread, and after counting up my
acquisitions for this past year, I'm almost too embarrassed to list
them all!
I like the older Pentaxes, and for years now have been using my trusty
MG, with a SMC Pentax-M 50mm f/2.0.
It all started with getting a backup MG body, so I'd have a source of
parts, just in case. It was in such good shape, I decided to get a new
lens for it, so I picked up a nearly new Pentax-A 50mm f/2. Fine combination...
Then I rejoined PDML. Oh boy...another misstep!
My next body was an almost perfect Spotmatic F! What fun that was! So
I joined the Spotty group online and started educating myself about
the M-42 lenses and bodies...
One thing led to another, and I now count 9 Takumar and 7 K-mount
lenses of various apertures! Sighhh.
Would that that were all...I also have, by actual count, 7 new-to-me
Pentax bodies, the newest of which is my precious MX!

The one thing I got for Christmas I really love is The Ultimate Asahi
Pentax Screw Mount Guide. grin Easy to keep me pleased!

Before all this Pentax-gear-buying flurry, I had been a sometime
collector of various examples of nice but somewhat less common
cameras. Now I've turned into a dangerous Pentax amasser!
Where will it all end? I've already cut up my VISA! g

I didn't get a single photographic item for Christmas either. Paul bought

I already had it and went and exchanged it for No Bad Dogs by Barbara

After those two? If its not the 120 macro, a set of tubes and probably a
wider 645 lens (35mm would be perfect), and then I can easily carry around
a complete 645 kit _and_ a complete 35mm kit and share most lenses. The

Well I'm just starting to shoot portraits and well some of the
girls skins
are not perfect, I've been advised to use vasaline(sp) or a
stocking or buy
a soft focus filter. I'm limited with lighting as I use
daylight coming in
from a window. Any other ideas.
I'll post a pic tommorrow to illustrate, maybe you can tell me
what I'm
 doing wrong.

Don't ever use vaseline. It's too easy to transfer it to the
equipment.
Stretch a peice of black nylon (stocking material is good, and
usually free). If it's not soft enough loosen it. If its a bit
too soft, burn a hole in it with a cigarette.
If you are shooting colour, then use a taupe coloured material.
Warms things up quite nicely.

Hi Frankie.

X-mas brought a new 2x Pentax viewfinder magnifier, a shoulder strap
for my tripod, and a pair of 12 collapsible reflectors/diffusers—I'm
looking forward to trying all of these during wildflower season this
spring so I don't know if they count for 2002.

The top 2 runner-ups for best photo investment of 2002 have been a
lightweight monopod and a new Jupiter-9 85/2.

The numero uno investment of 2002 has been switching to a better film
(Portra 160NC) and more time shooting—particularly the last 3 months.

Well, right before Christmas I kept getting outbid on a Pentax F 70-210 on ebay. So in
frustration, I bid on and got a Tokina AF 70-210 (with Macro setting).

Now I have a K-1000, a MZ-5n, a Pentax 50 f/2.0, a Pentax FA 28-70 and a Tokina AF
70-210 (plus the Albinar and Vivitar zooms which I will dump back on ebay).

I hope that covers me for awhile -- because I can't forsee spending any more on camera
equipment soon (not until the current credit card bills are paid).

And I hope the Tokina AF 70-210 is a decent lens.

Doe aka Marnie I wish someone had warned me that reading this list can really pull
one into buying more stuff. Hehehehe.

I used to be happy with my LX, 2 K-1000s a half dozen lenses, my
