peso plane and clouds
This is more a case of wondering what the plane is, rather than look at the pretty picture... I was meeting some friends for dinner the other night, and while waiting for some of the group to show up, I wasted some bits on the pretty sunset. I noticed that the plane in the background was a turboprop. Unfortunately I had my fast/sharp 16-50 rather than the versatile 18-250 lens on the camera, so the plane isn't as clear as it might be. Even so, just curious if anyone can ID it: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/5039082245/ close crop here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/5039703650/ It isn't by any chance the same type as the plane in this photo is it? http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap100929.html No, the APOD is not mine, I wasn't even in the same hemisphere, but it's still a cool shot. -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com sent from i4est -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Turning this into the Plane Discussion Mailing List: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Havilland_Canada_Dash_7 describes the Dash-7 as a four engined version of the Dash-6 twin otter. Could you be confusing the 6 with the 7, or possibly the 8? Dash 7 (DHC-7) is four engines, Dash 8 (DHC-8)is two engines. Dash 8 is much narrower and has a higher aspect ratio wing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Dash_8_in_planform_arp_rotated_03.jpg That may not be Larry's photo, but it's definitely the one in the APOD - different carrier of course. A few points: The shot is a deep crop with hefty recovery of highlights in Lightroom (recovery slider). The camera was set to Auto WB (5100K), and I bumped it up to 8005K in Lightroom.. Re: PESO plane and cloud
Big thanks, John, Mike, Anthony, P.J., Cotty, Chris, Boris, Joe, Pat, Dave S., and William. Very kind of you all, but just remember that this was a real lucky Hail Mary. The original RAW frame was impressively unremarkable. Earlier, I posted some post-processing tech stuff, so refer to that, and I want to make a correction: I mistakenly said I shot this in early morning rush hour, which is wrong; I meant to write early evening rush hour (about 5:15p). Still, I want the WB to be on the more yellowy side. Also, I shot this with the DA 21mm lens, so the plane was pretty small in the frame, but what's amazing is that if I zoom in on the plane (in Lightroom) I can make out 1 of 2 words on the plane. I can't make out the 1st grouping of 3 letters, but the second grouping of letters spells out Alliance. Isn't that amazing! Anyway, big thanks to you all. Prejudice ox-testicles. Jostein He's dead now, but when he was alive you were welcome to let your young relatives have sleep overs at Neverland. I think you'd be crazy, and and I think calling caution, prejudice, is just politically correct idiocy. Listen to yourself for a second and really think about what you've just said. Look at the facts: Two different DA's tried to get convictions for child molestation, there were multiple complaints, out of court settlements, payoffs recanted testamony. Geez, Maybe the DA's were being over zealous, maybe all of the complainants were just trying to get on the gravy train, and the guardians of those children were trying to set him up, but it would be very difficult to convince me that I should leave a child in the care of someone who was so obviously disturbed, even granted that he wasn't dangerous and I won't grant that. A lot of children are more heavily protected against less likely dangers. Jackson was gifted as a child and he lost his gift when he hit puberty. If you doubt me just listen to /I'll/ /be/ /there/ vs /Thriller/, as a child he had a natural 3 octave range, after puberty barely 1 and 1/2, which he augmented by singing falsetto. I can't imagine what it would be like to have such a gift taken away. His father apparently beat him and his brothers, maybe his sisters as well, I find it interesting that a lot of people who give Michael the benefit of doubt on his alleged crimes won't give do the same for Michael's father. For the sake of argument I won't give Michael's father that benefit. I'll grant he had a bad childhood, despite the fame, and that he lost a great gift, for those things he had my sympathy. That doesn't mean I'll trust him with children given his history. -- The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking; he can ruin himself with gambling. I'm tired of the adulation, a post was made about celebritys going to heaven, now I don't much believe in any kind of heaven, (I guess that means I'm not a particularly good Christian), but if there were one the average, celebrity has less chance of getting in than my current dog,. who objectively speaking as dogs go, is not the best dog in the world. Now check the thread, I made an oblique reference and someone else seemed to think it needed further explanation. So I gave it. I will say no more on that subject. If you're doing the driving, yes, you should stop doing it that way. Your attention should be on the road ahead and the rush hour traffic, lest you be caught un-awares by a sudden stop. If it's possible to bring down the exposure in the area of the hole in the clouds to where they're not so blown out it might add a little more 3-D. The white balance seems fine to me. RE: PESO plane and cloud
Wow! Hi Everyone: A real Hail Mary shot here--taken while driving on I-90 in some morning rush hour traffic that was moving along at about 30 - 40 mph. My husband hates when I do this; I probably should stop doing it. You could suggest he does all the driving... I confess, Ive done it too... Re: PESO plane and cloud
Big thanks to Mark, Brian, Gaydon, Dave, Ann, Bob W., Rob, Bob S., Larry, Paul, Jack, and Subash. A few points: The shot is a deep crop with hefty recovery of highlights in Lightroom (recovery slider). The camera was set to Auto WB (5100K), and I bumped it up to 8005K in Lightroom.. I wanted feedback to see if it was too much/not enough, whatever. So, Rob, yes, I was unsure ;-). The camera was also set to +EV 7, so I brought down the exposure in Lightroom to -.75, and then added strong contrast and bumped saturation up from 0 to 10. Then I was done. I was, in fact, driving, and I never put my nose behind the camera; I just held on to the steering wheel and tried to aim it in the right direction. I had no idea what my camera was set to, so like I said, it's a real Hail Mary shot--saved by a bit of post-processing. Yes, Brian, I thought I might be able to sneak this into the PUG, but it's ok that I can't. Hey, Bob S. want to go photodriving with me along I-90? ;-) Big cheers everyone, Christine - Original Message - From: Mark Roberts m...@robertstech.com To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List pdml@pdml.net Sent: Friday, June 26, 2009 5:53 PM Subject: Re: PESO plane and cloud Christine Aguila wrote: A real Hail Mary shot here--taken while driving on I-90 in some morning rush hour traffic that was moving along at about 30 - 40 mph. On 25/3/05, Paul Stenquist, discombobulated, unleashed: I like it. Nicely composed. Now what kind of plane is it? It would appear to be a business jet of some sort. Or is it a small commuter jet? Thanks Paul. Lockheed Tri-Star run by the RAF. There are several based at nearby RAF Brize Norton. Some are fitted with huge tanks inside and used to re-fuel other aircraft in-flight. Others are used as transport and passenger aircraft for our troops overseas. Other types based at Brize are very noisy VC-10s (re-fuelers) and 4 new Boeing C17 transports. Not a plane geek, but have been up in all the above filming. You *did* ask ;-) Cheers, Cotty ___/\__ || (O) | People, Places, Pastiche ||=|http://www.cottysnaps.com _
