Same here and it's not only Napster it happens with all services within
the Online Radio / Music Services tree. I run SC 7.3.3 (latest build) on
Ubuntu 8.04 and Moose on a Samsung NC10 Windows XP.

But the rest is fantastic :)

[SlimDevices: Plugins] In Praise of Sugarcube

2009-04-30 Thread davep

I just wanted to mention for those who have gone the MusicIP route and
put in the time to scan and fingerprint their collection that I am
finding the Sugarcube plugin to be an absolutely excellent method of
listening to your collection in a 'random but structured' way.

Thinking of one track you want to hear and hitting play starts you off
on a usually interesting trawl through your music, turning up tracks
that work but that you would never have thought to play yourself. I
find I have quite a few albums that I don't actually know that well and
certainly not well enough to be able to pick a title and say "that's the
sort of thing I want to hear", and as a result these are the albums that
almost never get tracks payed during a normal listening session.

Sugarcube overcomes that by continually adding one more track to the
end of your now playing list as each song finishes. This means that you
are constantly in the dark about what is coming up after the next track
and thus provides an element of (usually pleasant) surprise.

This is now my dominant method of listening. Highly recommended.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: PlayLog -- log track info, easy web searches

2009-04-30 Thread peterw

Could you try version 2.1.34?

If you're running 7.3, use this URL for Extension Downloader:
http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/slim7/repodata-test.xml
If you want or need to install manually, go here:
http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/slim7/TESTING/PlayLog/

This new version falls back to file open() calls that don't explicitly
set UTF-8 as the encoding mode. I hope that will resolve the problem,
but don't have any way to test it myself.

It tells the plugin that you want to display the text in ticker mode.
Otherwise the number indicates how long (seconds) you want the text
displayed and it'll center the text. No other values that I can recall

I've gone ahead and posted 5.8.7 to www.gregbrown.net.

What's new:
- Fixed MLB icons and parsing for delayed/postponed games (Thanks Steve
B and family).
- UV Rating now supported.
** Please support the plugin by starting all your Amazon.com shopping
via clicking through the Amazon.com links on www.gregbrown.net ***

For those of you running 7.3+, I now have a SuperDateTime repository
available to make downloading/updating easy. This repo is usually
updated faster than the main repo provided by Slim Devices.

Please give it a shot by adding:
http://gregbrown.net/squeeze/repo.xml
via Settings -> Advanced -> Extension Downloader

Thanks

Michael, I think that part of the problem is that I probably have a
high proportion of "obscure" albums in my collection, mostly jazz from
the 1960s and 1970s which do not have allmusic reviews and hence return
a list of 'close matches' in Album Review. However a good example of an
album which gives me trouble but does have a review is Mingus's 'Blues &
Roots". Using the Album Review plugin on this produces a list of two
entries - the original album and the Japanese re-issue. On the allmusic
website the reviews for each of these are identical but each has a
unique cover shot picture since the covers were different for the two
releases, and I think perhaps the track listing for the alternate takes
may also differ. In any case allmusic chooses to present this as two
entries and hence I get a list of two on the Controller, neither of
which I can actually select to read since scrolling doesn't work.

As another example, clicking on Cream's Albert Hall 2005 set gets me 4
or 5 listings, including one for the DVD.

Having said that, when it does work - and this is the case with the
majority of the searches I do - it works well and is a valuable
addition to the overall usefulness of the Controller as an aid to a good
listening session.

2009-04-30 Thread bpa

The same error message has been reported by other users for different
plugins so it appears to be a download issue which affects some users.

You could try a manual install.
1. Note the full directory path for your ED plugins (i.e. ending with
InstalledPlugins/Plugins) Stop SC.
2. Download the zip file
http://homepage.eircom.net/~altondsl/repos/SoftSqueeze-v39b1.ZIP
3. Unzip the file into the ED Plugins directory noted in 1.
4. If necessary change ownership ands permissions to be the same as
other plugins in the the InstalledPlugins/Plugins directory
5. Start SC and see if "Community Softsqueeze" appears in WebUI Extras.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Sirius no longer working

False alarm, perhaps:

When I got the connection error, it was with softsqueeze. I just now
went and tried it on a real squeezebox, and I was able to play Last.fm
fine. So, Piotr, you will probably be fine when your Duet arrives.

Don't know why softsqueeze has a problem, but it's a non-issue for me,
because if I'm at my computer I'll use the Last.fm client, not
SqueezeCenter.

Hi-

I've been using the SqueezeScrobbler plugin for a while now to listen
to Last.fm on my squeezeboxes (thanks!). I'm in Canada, so in the last
few days my free access to Last.fm has been shut down, as it has for
everyone not in US, UK, or Germany.

I just bought a subscription, but I still can't get Last.fm to play via
SqueezeCenter. I get a "Problem: can't connect to server for:" message, and that's it. My login info didn't change when I bought
the subscription, so I haven't changed anything in the server config.

Should SqueezeScrobbler still work for me? Should I switch to the
built-in plugin, now that I'm a subscriber?

Chris.

What do you get for those albums in the web UI? These lists imho haven't
been implemented (yet).

Yes, it appears to be a list where a single unique choice is not
available.

No, not all - where there is a single result the display goes
immediately to the detailed review for that album.

Agreed - but it is the inability to navigate these lists which is the
problem for me.

Is this a list of albums found? Does this happen with _all_ albums, or
only some? A list is shown if for a given album/artist combo no unique
result is found.

What version of AlbumReview are you using?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Album Review on Controller and OS X

2009-04-30 Thread davep

I am running SC 7.4.0 on Mac OS X and using a Controller to interface my
Transporter, all of which works just fine. The only really outstanding
issue for me at this point is that the Album Review plugin does not seem
to behave properly. I get a display on the Controller with the correct
album title and a list of two or three (sometimes many more)
alternatives which match the title to choose from. However, at this
point, the Controller does not respond to vertical scrolling commands
from the scrollwheel, but just sits there refusing to allow selection of
one of the listed albums for highlighting and reading the review.

Is there anything I have missed?

This plugin requires additional perl modules to be installed
(HTML::FormatText, HTML::Parse). I don't know whether they're included
with SSODS.

I have a Squeezebox duet attached to a synology DS207+. it al works
pretty well. So I decided to install the Biography plugin. I tested it
with squeezecenter and the information is displayed correct.
On my duet controller(and also with squeezeplay) I can select the
biography and watch the foto's but the Biography text shows -I Think -
HTML codes such as http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29995

This looks like an ED issue and sounds like a timeout. Softsqueeze is
much bigger than other plugins and so takes much longer to download. I
think it uses the default Timeout value as set in
Settings/Advanced/Networks/Radio Station Timeout. I suggest changing
this value to 60 and see if it helps.

Afterwards change the value back as 60 would be unreasonable for normal
use.

Sounds like an installation issue.

How did you install 3.9b1 ? using the zip or ED ?
How are you running 3.9b1 - from WebUI or standalone ?
