Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] NPR Plugin - Not working

2009-11-03 Thread bpa

vikasa;480988 Wrote:
I contacted NPR and they responded that that will correct the problem.

Strangely enough, thin.npr.org still shows the full graphics version
but now the SB plugin has started working again!

I am not sure how this plugin is implemented but I like the fact that
individual segments in ATC and other programs can be played and there is
also that Play All Items option.

I also contacted NPR but got the automated reply. In August when
www.npr.org was revamped, the Windows Media support was supposed to be
dropped because of lack of use. The thin.npr.org site was designed to be
suitable for mobile devices and visually impaired (i.e. user who use
screen magnifiers and screen readers). The thin.npr.org site also
uniquely provides access to program segments in WMA unlike the
www.npr.org which uses Flash/AAC. WMA meant that playlists could be
generated for SB which is why the thin site is important to the plugin.

So when contacting NPR about thin.npr.org - mention in the same
sentence something like the site for visually impaired rather than SB
player as the visually impaired will be a minority and hence lack of
use (i.e. low user numbers) is to be expected compared to www.npr.org
usage.

At the time of writing of the plugin the main npr.org site only
provided Flash/AAC access and mobile device could not play it so
thin.npr.org was also popular with mobile users as it provided WMA
streams. Also at the time SB could not play Flash/AAC streams. This
restriction wrt Flash/AAC is changing and so NPR may be trying to cut
costs under the revamp heading.

Regarding podcasts, as we discussed at
 http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=70611 both SB and the
audio source/server should support pausing/resuming, seeking and proper
playlist management, that will be great.

SB currently supports pause/stop and FFW/REW when playing BBC podcasts
so the problem is not with SB.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: BBCiPlayer 0.9 - with UK and Non UK Support

2009-11-03 Thread bpa

Looking at the file - the Childrens entry was not created properly it
is missing the Parser entry but Children 2 3 are correct and should
work. Look at the red text on the far right (use scroll bar to see
rightmost text)

Code:

  outline URL=http://feeds.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/categories/childrens/radio/list;
icon=html/images/favorites.png text=Childrens /

  outline URL=http://feeds.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/categories/childrens/radio/list;
icon=html/images/radio.png parser=Plugins::BBCiPlayerExtra::ExtraXMLParser
text=Childrens 2 /

  outline URL=http://feeds.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/categories/childrens/radio/list;
icon=html/images/radio.png parser=Plugins::BBCiPlayerExtra::ExtraXMLParser
text=Childrens 3 /

  /body

SB remembers when URLs are fetched and also what was the result so that
if yiou used Childrens entry because Parser was missing, no entries
would be displayed. Now if you try Children 2 immediately afterward
trying Chrildren, SBS would note the URL being used is the same and so
it would return the failed result and so save time and network comms.
The cache entry will expire after about 5 mins so if you try Children 2
say 30 mins later - then the correct Parser will be used and you will
get a good result. Furthermore if you then test Children immediately
after a successful Children 2 - it too will work because of caching.
This can get very confusing for users.

When I test - I have to delete the SB directory Cache/FileCache very
often to make sure caching is not giving me false results.

When you have a command prompt window open (it usually has white text on
a black background).

At the prompt type in the following and press return/enter.
cd \Program Files\SqueezeCenter\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread
The above assume an English Windows installation and Squeezecenter
install. Since you changed to 7.4 - I don't know off hand where
faad.exe ios located. It is not good to keep changing different things
when trying to solve a problem. You will need to find faad.exe
yourself.

Then type in the following and press return/enter.
dir

Check that there is a faad.exe and a flac.exe in the lines displayed.
If there is then type in the following and press return/enter.
faad

Please post back describing what text you see.

That shows faad.exe is OK. It looks like your problem is not caused by
the usual sources.

Since the illstreet48.pls also fails - it indicates the problem is in
the SC transcoding which involves faad.exe but it is not clear why it is
failing. So it is necessary to get some more detailed log messages to
see what is happening when trying to play. Can you do the following.

1. WebUI Settings/Advanced/Logging set player.source to DEBUG and
click Apply.
2. Using WebUI Tune-in - try to play
http://www.somafm.com/illstreet48.pls
3. Wait 1 minute after clicking play
4. Open the server.log window see WebUI Settings/Information bottom of
page.
5. Copy into a text file (use Notepad) all log messages from time of
Play to last message.
6. Zip the file and attach to a post.

You need to check the URLs of the stream carefully and the format that

which protocols and format have the problem.

rtmp - Flash/AAC or Flash/MP3

mms - WMA

Can you now clarify
1. Are the Live broadcasts using http or mms ? and is the format WMA
or something else ?

2. What format is World service WMA or other ?

3. WHat were you using to play Listen Again on SSOTS 3.8 - AlienBBC

The BBC streams that don't work are rtmp-Flash/AAC (= most Listen Again

The BBC streams that do work are http-WMA (= live streams and World

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Bonjour/Zeroconf plugin for SBS 7.4 ?

2009-11-03 Thread epoch1970

It took some doing, but AndyG has finally disclosed why Zeroconf/bonjour
was gone from SBS 7.4 (too big/awkward for Touch), and that the feature
can move to a plugin.

Good. On CPAN there is Net::RendezVous which can do publishing. There
is a connector with Avahi-daemon and mdns, theoretically the plugin
could register dynamically the service on OS X and on Linux.
Slimdevices has registered 2 services (
http://dns-sd.org/ServiceTypes.html ) -- I wonder if there wasn't a 3rd
one published.

Bringing back the functionality to OS X users and porting it to linux
doesn't seem too difficult, from here.

However, I personally still lack the understanding of how a plugin
works. (Before someone asks: to me, the obsolete wiki pages are no help
at all.)

Does a plugin savvy contributor want to step up ?

Yes, iPeng needs TrackStat to support ratings. However, you can use
iTunes Update for the iTunes integration and TrackStat for the iPeng
ratings, they should work pretty good together.

However, I think you might have another problem, the paths inside the
iTunes Library XML file must be correct from the WHS point of view if it
should work. If they aren't you will need to use the more complex
TrackStat based iTunes integration where you can convert the paths
 during the import/export.

iTunes Update plugin can be used in two modes:
 - In direct mode which require Squeezebox Server and iTunes on same
 computer
 - In file mode which will generate a file similar to the TrackStat
solution and require you to run a perl script on the iTunes computer.

It seems that somehow the pathing is okay. In the library file all of
the paths are referred to as \volume1\music\ but yet somehow after
configuring the WHS squeeze to point to this XML and to point to the
actual directory the music is in it seems to be working since all of my
iTunes playlists are now showing up and are working.

You are right about iTunes Update, it strongly recommends against using
it in active mode if Squeezebox is running as a service on a Windows
machine.

I also notice that without Trackstat plugin installed I am no longer
seeing the star ratings for my tracks on iPeng, so I guess I'm pretty
sunk on being able to update track ratings between Squeeze and iTunes

I'm also experiencing exactly the same problem as described by majones

thanks for your focus on the problem.

All worked great with BBC iplayer live and listen again at SSOTS 1.8
and Squeezecenter 7.3.3. Now with any version of Squeezebox Server 7.4
on SSOTS 4.1-7.4.0 the listen again streams (except World Service) seem
to play without sound.

I haven't the technical know how to play around with things so I've
left as is for fear of breaking it further (however I have followed the
same instructions on changing file types in BBC iPlayer and File
Types settings). But if I can help by sanity checking my SBS, TS-119 or
SSOTS config against majones please let me know and I'll try my best.

Would it be possible to have a programme counter next to programmes with
multiple episodes?

e.g.

I find that it is easy to get lost in the SB3 menu when there are

This would be a good feature in the main BBD IPlayer application.

Unfortunately doing the ratings and tracking the statistics doesn't do
me a lot of good if I must periodically do manual tasks to import said
ratings and statistics back into the iTunes database.

I believe I've also discovered that iTunes on the Mac is primarily
using the iTunes Library.XML and periodically makes a back up of this
data into the iTunes Music Library.XML file, which appears to be a bit
out of date most of the time.

I will try pointing iTunes plugin for Squeeze directly at the iTunes
Library.XML that iTunes on the Mac is working with and hopefully my data
will be more up to date.

Thanks again for responding.

Thanks! I got it. I haven't been using Inguz for quite a while and
spaced out the DSP plugin portion. I thought I didn't need it since I'm
not using the room correction feature.

It's really unbelievable how much better the music shines through when
the system and room modes are smoothed out. Now I have to find a good
measurement setup that can run through the SB . . . I have Room EQ
Wizard and use it with my big setup, but there the sweep tones go
through the same hardware and any changes show up in the sweeps, with
this setup they don't.

80% there though, thanks again! Now we just have to figure out how to
keep it from expiring. :)

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Solved: hibernation problem on the DNS-323

2009-11-03 Thread epoch1970

Heh. I'm not an expert, but I believe that if the traffic is unicast or
broadcast, there can only be one socket receiving the traffic.
On BSD (a mac) I have played with divert sockets (Net:: Divert on
CPAN), but this doesn't exist on linux AFAIK. That's a slick trick to
insert random curse words in the web pages fetched by an innocent
browser ...
Divert sockets are a kind of raw sockets. So perhaps tcpdump/libpcap
can help ? Is there a firewall on this machine ?
If so, I'd give a try to something like 'Net::Pcap::Easy'
(http://search.cpan.org/~jettero/Net-Pcap-Easy-1.4000/Easy.pod), and
send the kill signal in the callback.

The possibilities are endless :)

[SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicIP Mixer - curious behaviour

2009-11-03 Thread Peter314

In an idle moment I tried a MusicIP Mix of a track from Van Der Graaf
Generator#8217;s Live At The Paradiso. The MusicIP mix settings in my
system are quite conservative, so it wasn#8217;t a total surprise when
the next track was from the same album, and the third and fourth tracks
too.

At this point it had obviously hit some sort of limit and reluctantly
shifted to Mars, from Holst#8217;s The Planets, and then something from
Ton Koopman#8217;s Bach Organ Spectacular. After this interlude it was
back to VDGG live before blossoming with a bunch of tracks from King
Crimson, ELP, Yes, The Doors, Mike Oldfield, and quite a few songs from
the HDTracks World#8217;s Greatest Audiophile Vocal Recordings.

While there are clearly some genre linkages between a number of the
selections, other seemed pretty far apart #8211; more so than generally
results from a MusicIP mix. The penny dropped when I realised that what
every single track had in common was that it is -a 24 bit recording-.

A quick test with other 24 bit tracks confirmed this. Seeding a MusicIP
mix with a 24 bit recording produces a playlist of exclusively 24-bit
tracks. Clearly, MusicIP Mixer sees bit depth as the single most
important criterion by far.

I am reluctant to liberalise the mix parameters lest the mix become too
random. Anyone know of a way to make MusicIP Mixer #8220;bit-depth
blind#8221;?

It's not in the convertTime. If what you're looking for is possible it
would be in the getCFB sub. Although I didn't change that area I did
notice different formats of the espn URL that can be used. If you look
at the getMLB, or getNHL subs you'll see the following at the end of the

/scoreboard?date=' . $lastRefresh

This is plugging the current date on the end of the URL which focuses
the game info returned to that date. I haven't played with the NCAA
football pages enough to see if they can be restricted to a single date.
So far it always seems to show a weeks worth of games.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] SB1: Title switcher stops switching

2009-11-03 Thread usch

First of all, the following problem affects both of my SB1s, but not my
Boom, so I suspect it is somehow related to the 40x2 text display.

Music Information Screen is set to TITLESWITCHERALBUMARTIST top left,
and PLAYTIME_ALWAYS top right.

TITLESWITCHERALBUMARTIST is ALBUM:5,ARTIST:10.

Now whenever there is an album or artist name that is longer than a
certain number of characters, the top row falls back to Now Playing
and stays that way until I go to Settings - Advanced - Title Switcher
and click Apply again, which restores normal operation.

It seems the certain number of characters mentioned above is the same
as the Scrolling Length in the Title Switcher settings. If I set that
value to zero, or high enough so that it never waits for scrolling, the
error does not occur. So for now that's a practicable workaround.

Log file (fails when ALBUM = Fresh Wind in the Valley of Dreams):

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPlayer Won't Play BBC Listen Again on QNAP

majones,

Can you repeat your last log except this time enable AAC in BBCiPlayer
settings. The log you attached showed trying to play a Flash/MP3 stream
which I cannot use for comparison.

However after looking at the log there is one message which stands out.
Scroll text to see end of message.

Code:

  09-11-03 12:38:13.5059] Plugins::BBCiPlayer::RTMP::sendRTMPPacket (261)
sending rtmp: chunkChan: 8 type: 20 streamId: 5.29980882362664e-315

The streamid value is unusual - I expected a low integer so I suspect
encode/decode error which may a portability issues as Flash code
requires a lot of low level bit byte pack and unpacking in data
structures. THis is the sort of code that can break across different
system architectures.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Question on Trackstat and iTunes integration

2009-11-03 Thread jmpage2

Okay, so here's what I did, let me know if this will hopefully work.

I moved my actual iTunes library data (the entire Music/iTunes folder)
over to the WHS network share.

I then deleted it from the Mac and started up iTunes while holding down
the option key. I pointed iTunes to the library over on the network
share.

This all worked!

Then I installed the iTunes updater plugin and reconfigured Squeezebox
Server to use iTunes and iTunes updater. I pointed it to the Music
Library.XML file on the network share.

So now my Mac and the WHS have access to the same library data. The
only source of confusion for me is whether the files the Mac uses and
the files the WHS/Windows instances use are the same.

I believe Mac uses the Library.XML file and Windows tries to use the
iTunes Music Library.XML file and I'm not sure if the two files will
really stay in sync.

Yes and No. After digging into the code a bit more I'm surprised it
works at all. I know there's several years of cruft in there, but WOW
is it ugly. I pretty much gave up on deciphering the tangled web of

Instead I wrote a separate PERL module for interacting with the Sirius

now trying to shoehorn that back into Greg's plugin since I don't really
want to deal with the UI. I need to refactor a few things to be
asynchronous and add better error handling before I'd want to turn it
loose on anyone else. So yes there is news, but I'm a little slower
than I expected because I didn't anticipate just throwing in the towel
and rewriting a large portion of it :) If I were to continue down the
path of rewriting the whole thing, I'd probably just use OPML like the
official plugin and clone its functionality and appearance.I
wonder if there'd be a negative response from Logitech though for making
something that looks exactly like their plugin, but works for both US/CA
and high/low bitrate streams? That's probably the easiest option, but
I'll try to work with Greg's plugin because some people like the added
functionality it has.

So no one has this problem???

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Can't scrobble songs from SB3 to Last.fm

2009-11-03 Thread auronthas

Since last.fm database maintenance yesterday, all my songs played via
Squeezebox could not be scrobbled to Last.fm, when i try to re-register
last.fm audioscrobbler plugin, it said

There was an error verifying your account with Last.fm. Please try
again later. (Couldn't resolve IP address for:
post.audioscrobbler.com)

Do you face the similar problem (Squeezebox Server 7.4.1)? Please
advise.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] SB1: Title switcher stops switching

2009-11-03 Thread erland

I don't have a SB1 to test with, but could you try the latest version of
Title Switcher (1.1.3) which I just released.

It would be great if you also temporarily could enable debug logging on
plugin.titleswitcher and let it go through switching of a track with
long text and post the log so I can see how it behaves.

The current implementation won't scroll on SB1, but it shouldn't stop
switching. After I've got the log it might be possible to improve it
assuming SB1 supports scrolling.

Erland, do you have any idea what could cause the wrong display? It is
still there consequently for ALL internet streams I use.

Could you try if the latest Custom Scan version (2.7.3) solves this ?

I haven't been able to reproduce the problem in my own setup but 2.7.3
should at least get rid of the errors in the log so if this was the
cause it might solve the problem.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Scan does not read ID3v2.4; Bug?

2009-11-03 Thread erland

I've added back the raw MP3 tag parsing as an option in the Custom Scan
2.7.3 release. Check the new raw tag parsing checkbox in the Custom Tag
scanning module and report back if it solves your problem or not.

If possible, it would be great if you still could send me a file which
you expect to work so I can use that in the future during testing.
