Take a look at the SPC configuration options and you'll see there are
various alternative thresholds that can be used for determining idle.
One can be using idle SBs as the only criterion, but other options use
network traffic, CPU usage and maybe hard disk activity. See which you
 have set in your configuration.

Note that if you are running a really old version of SPC it only uses
SB idleness to trigger a suspend/hibernate action. The other options
 were introduced several months ago.

Thanks for the suggestion. I assume that what you suggested
definitively will help when the suspend doesn't work. In my case the
situation is vice versa: the PC tried to go into suspend while I was
actively using the PC and that should not happen... or are we saying
that the SvrPowerControl overwrites all other functions? I mean if
that is the case then it could well be that if SvrPowerControl dectects
that the SBs are idling a suspend is executed even I'm working at the
PC. But then I would assume that SvrPowerControl should also check the
situation of the PC prior to issuing the suspend command.

No, I understood your situation. If you configure SPC to trigger the
shutdown based solely on SB status, then it will do so even if you are
working at the computer. That is why it may be useful to use a
different shutdown criterion, such as idle disk IO threshold, idle
network IO threshold, or CPU load threshold. If you use one of those,
then SPC will not suspend the computer while you are working on it
(assuming you are at least meeting one or more of those thresholds),
even if the SBs are idle.

I repeat: what are your settings in the System Idle Monitor: section of
SPC's configuration?? Instead of assuming this or that, look at what
settings you are using.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: New versions of erlands plugins

2011-07-26 Thread erland

Since Logitech decided to release Squeezebox Server 7.6 today I want to
make sure everyone using the TrackStat plugin remembers to take a
backup of its data before upgrading to Squeezebox Server 7.6.0.

If you have setup scheduled nightly backup of TrackStat data, you can
just take the latest nightly backup. If not, you will have to take a
manual backup as described below before you upgrade.

You will always have to restore the TrackStat backup after you have
upgraded to 7.6, else most of your TrackStat data will be lost.

Manual backup in 7.5:

1. Goto SBS Settings - Advanced - TrackStat - Backup/Restore/Clear
2. Specify the full path to a file where you want the backup to be
stored in the Backup file parameter
3. Click Apply to save the settings.
4. Click the Backup to file button to perform the backup
5. If you like to be 100% sure to not loose anything, you can double
check that the backup file seems to contain TrackStat data by looking
at its size or viewing it in a text editor.

Restore after the 7.6 upgrade:
=
1. Let Squeezebox Server complete the rescan so all your music is
available, a TrackStat backup can't be restored before the rescan has
completed successfully.
2. Goto SBS Settings - Advanced - TrackStat - Backup/Restore/Clear
3. Specify the full path to the file with TrackStat data in the Backup
file parameters. If you performed the manual backup in 7.5 this is
probably already set correctly.
4. If you know your current TrackStat data from 7.5 was correct, it's a
good idea to set Find alternative files option to No as that will
make the restore considerably faster. Setting this to Yes will make
the restore extremely slow in some setups.
5. Click Apply to save the settings.
6. Click Remove all data button to remove any default data which was
generated due to the Squeezebox Server rescan. This step is optional
and isn't needed in all setups, but I'd recommend doing it to get as
clean TrackStat data as possible.
7. Click Restore from file button to start the restore. The restore
operation will continue in the background, you have to look in the
server.log file to see when it's finished. The server.log will indicate
with a message like this when the restore has started:

Plugins::TrackStat::Backup::File::initRestore (165) Restore from:
/home/erland/TrackStat/trackstat_scheduled_backup_20110706.xml

And with a message like this when the backup has been successfully
restored:

Plugins::TrackStat::Backup::File::doneScanning (230) Restore completed
at 2011-07-06 12:13:20

If you accidentally shutdown Squeezebox Server before the restore is
finished, you will have to repeat the operation. As reference, in my
3500 track library it took about 8 minutes to restore the backup.

If you have any problems, post in this thread or start a separate
thread in the 3rd party plugins section.

Yes, UPnP plugin were removed from 7.6 just before the release, as I've
understood the reason is mainly that they didn't have the time to
correct all bugs and finish it for 7.6 so it will be instead be
released in 7.7 (or whatever the LMS version is going to be called).
It's available in the LMS nightly beta build, see LMS thread for more

The uptake on muso has been pretty slow, though there seem to be a
steady stream of people downloading and using the trial. If you have
trialled it and chose not to register it for whatever reason (price,
performance, lack of features, etc), please post any feedback here. The
handful of users who have registered a copy are very enthusiastic about
it, and seem to be extremely happy with it.

I do want to make this the best windows front end available for

Once you've added http://srvrpowerctrl.googlecode.com/svn/beta.xml to

/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/SrvrPowerCtrl/scripts/Debian/srvrpowerctrl-setup.sh

..from a terminal prompt to complete the setup?

The return code of 256 usually indicates a permissions problem, i.e.
the squeezeboxserver user that was created when you installed SBS
doesn't have sudo permissions to execute a passwordless shutdown -h
now.

From a terminal prompt, what happens when you run:

# sudo -u squeezeboxserver /usr/local/sbin/spc-test.sh

??

2011-07-26 Thread Webkemmi

Hello Dr. Lovegrove,

as a big moose Fan I just tried the new version. .Net 4 is installed on
my Win 7 Notebook. On the server I run the latest nightly 7.6 running
SQLite.
The previous version of moose ran without a problem but with the 0.75 I
get an error message with the same settings (see attachment).

Do I still need additional DLLs?

Yes that would be good. Having said that though, I am not -very-
bothered about the sound quality of Napster or Spotify. I use them
mainly for music discovery rather than serious listening. If I find
music I really like I usually end up buying the CD - second hand if
possible - and ripping it to FLAC files for the Squeezebox.

There are rarely more than 5 or 6 albums in my Napster library. Either
the album gets bought or I delete it from the library after a few
listens.

I also rarely buy music as a download and when I do it is almost never
through Napster unless I can use my 5 free tracks a month. If I cannot
find an album as a second hand CD I can usually find it either as a FLAC
or 320kb/s MP3 at another download store cheaper than either Napster or
Spotify.

I don't think I am these services target customer!!

Hmm, I'll look into this in more detail tomorrow, but the way the
SQLite scanning works is that moose actually writes the SQLite.dll to
the filesystem just before it tries to access it. I wonder if it's having
issues either writing the dll, or possibly picking up the wrong dll after
writing.

Could you try copying moose.exe into a completely clean folder,
say c:\moose and run it from there.. Does it generate a dll file along side

I can only say that there definitely were keychain issues until beta 3.
It works again in beta4 without me changing anything.

The only app I have come across that I use frequently that crashes in
iOS5 is yours, and I have tried hundreds of apps.

Try the builtin camera App for example. It crashes for me on every 2nd
or 3rd photo I make still with beta 4 although beta 4 got much better.

Among others that were completely unusable for me until beta 3 are
facebook and weatherPro, and TapaTalk just to name a few I use
frequently.

I made this comment when beta 2 was the status quo, especially beta 4
got much better.

Obviously I don't expect apps to just work with a beta OS and I don't
blame you for the crashes. I'm just hoping that you are not waiting
for iOS5 to 'stabilize' before trying to get an update out. I really
 miss iPeng.

I am waiting for XCode to stabilize until I even start to consider
doing serious iOS5 related work.
Right now I get 4 exceptions in XCode with every single change I make
to my project (like renaming a file).
I now this is because I use a legacy project because with my new
projects I created in XCode 4 it will only raise two exceptions per
change.
From time to time XCode crashes on startup when trying to load a xib
file which means I then have to find out which one it is, remove it
from the project and re-add it. This is unusable crap. And that's the
release version.
I'm seriously angry about Apple here. I talked to Apple engineers
(XCode developers, that is) and they had no idea what the problem is
but seriously, EVERYBODY around me there had the same trouble.

Apple's got a really serious quality problem right now. I'm not willing
to invest even more days to debug yet another XCode version.

That aside - I only have one serious development machine anymore and
since I can't build for the App Store if I load 4.2 onto that machine
I'm without debug capability for iOS 5.

That said: iPEng doesn't crash as often for me under beta 4 (the
keychain issue wasn't causing the crashes, that was a communication
stack issue, I believe, because all the Apps where I saw this used to
crash while trying to load data from the internet), there are only two
crashes for which I get reports from Apple and one is one I've already
fixed and which I believe may also be the reason for at least some of
the crashes mentioned above although I did nut get any iOS 4 crash
reports.
The other one is one I seriously don't understand, somwhere deep in the
graphics subsystem, I tend to claim that's an iOS issue.

Hopefully they will help shed some light on the issue. If they don't
help, I can give you remote access to my library if needed.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

2011-07-26 Thread Triode

Anyone who has been having problems with a windows version of the plugin
crashing (particularly with iPeng), please try the following
instructions to install a debugging version:

1) add: http://triodeplugins.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/testrepo.xml to
the additional repositories section at the very bottom of the plugin
web page. This should ask you to restart the server after you click
apply – say yes and this will update to the new test version.

2) set the “Helper App Logging” level to “Debug” and then use until
something stops working.

3) check the helper app log which is also reachable from this page and
post here or mail me what it says

4) if the helper app log says it has created a crash file please mail
this direct to the the address given in the helper log [NOTE: do not
post the crash dump file anywhere else as it will include data related
to your spotify password!]

5) to stop using the test version remove the entry from the additional
repositories section and then uninstall the plugin, restart and then
install the normal version.

Thanks.

I agree. Triodes plugin gets it close.

Hi Pippin, I was using the handy dandy Wiki search feature in iPeng and
it made me think how great a similar thing would be for lyrics search.
Preferably just a google search that inserted the song title and artist
+lyrics into the search string, that way you aren't tied into one
specific lyric site.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] DynamicPlayList stopped working after upgrade to 7.6

2011-07-26 Thread erland

If you have customized the SQL yourself, you need to change rand to
random.

If you haven't customized the SQL and sees the more user friendly view
when editing the SQL playlist, it should handle it automatically as
long as you have the latest version of Dynamic Playlists and SQL
Playlists plugins.

If you don't get it to work, please let me know which playlist template
the playlist is based on because then I might have missed something.

Have you tried to reboot the computer SBS is running on to make 100%

The Custom scan module is not starting automatically following a system

When it's not installed, it is listed as 3rd party Spotify plugin so
if you are looking under S you won't find it there.

Do you have Automatically detect changes enabled in SBS
Settings/Advanced/Performance ?

If so, that's probably the issue, I can't enable automatic rescan of
Custom Scan if Automatically detect changes is enabled because it
will cause huge performance problem since the Automatically detect
changes isn't reliable, it will trigger too often so you might end up
with a continuously running Custom Scan process which is very bad for
both the functionality and performance of the system.

If the above isn't the cause, is the Automatic rescan option under
SBS Settings/Advanced/Custom Scan/Various Settings enabled ?

If it is, could you try looking in the server.log to see if you see
some error or other information in the log. You could enable debug
logging on plugin.customscan in SBS Settings/Advanced/Logging to make
sure you get some more log information.
